A Masterpiece From Tamil Nadu That Will Leave You In Tears | Karnan Review | Dhanush, Mari Selvaraj

- #Karnan starring #Dhanush and directed by #MariSelvaraj is a masterpiece in storytelling according to me. Tamil Cinema and their films that especially star their biggest superstars always amaze me, for their synergy of art and commerce. The film is a great example of how formula is intended for business whereas communication is the purpose of art! The more time Bollywood takes in catching up to Tamil cinema, the larger will be the gap and the audience will understand who is taking more leaps towards excellence. I hope you like the Karnan Movie Review & Analysis.

Pariyerum Perumal - A single man's angst against societal imbalances and fight for justice.
Karnan - A community's rage against inequality and conditioned notions.
Pariyerum perumal had a submissive hero, karnan has a aggressive hero...
I wouldn't necessarily say he's submissive. At the climax, he's still pari still has the moral high ground. His character was innately innocent until he faced castism, and pari itself is "comparatively" better previlige to have education avenues. While in karnan even the mere existence is opposed
@@yesh8340 why i said pari submissive is due to the fact that he surpassed the urine scene at that instance, karnan would have faught them right there itself...
@@rajashekar7893 I don't think that's being submissive, he's helpless and innocent is more of a right word. Submissive means he's conforming to the authority. But pari doesn't conform, he rebels, but just in his own way, through education, because he saw through principal of the college what education can bring to dalit. That becomes the point of infliction in him, untill then he also shows his anger towards everyone, becomes agressive towards his bullies in college, even to Jo. But once he sees through his principal it changes him.
@@yesh8340 yeah he was helpless and moved away silently felt himself inferior untill he brings his true father (that feel of inferiority is form of passivity) after that scene he knows his responsibility as a student and also not willing to give up his self respect but karnan wouldn't have moved away silently in the first itself which u can see in kabadi scene too...
The main fact is that dhanush is a big star but he does not project himself that way. He prefers to lie low so any kind of movies he appears in is given more importance than him. He grows through his films.
Like hollywood actors like Leo, bale others do
This movies is telling the plain truth that the Mahabharat and Ramayan actually took place in Tamil Nadu. The Sanskrit version over exaggerates the incident and manipulates some truths. Karnan is actually a goat, yes you heard me right he's a goat. A goat which has kundals in its ears. You can search in Google images. The Pandavs were actually the Pandya dynasty of Tamils. And Kauravas were the kuravas of Kerala. And krishna existed between Tamil Nadu and Kerala and acted as a middle man, trying to convince both the dynasties.
More truth is coming people.
@@StarkEdits11 I m a Tamilan...Karnan movie is not about Mahabharata its about caste supremacy ...don't blah blah...definitely u r not Tamilan....

Majority of North Indians are very racist, I being a North Indian know this.... And Indians cry when they face racism outside the country... See Bollywood for ex, name 1 dark skin lead actress? Karnan from Mahabharata, the great warrior and archer born to a queen yet abandoned by her. He is raised amongst suta (Charioteer caste). He still has the ambition to learn archery which is denied to him. He doesn't give up and lies to Parshurama about his identity and learns Dhanurveda and all other scriptures at prodigious speed. The sad event starts happening now as he is cursed twice, once for lying about his caste as lord Parshuram finds it out due to Indrac's trickery and once he is cursed by another rishi for mistakenly killing his calf. Both these curses is what becomes the reason for Karna's ultimate demise. He then goes to Hastinapur and shows his skill in the exhibition meant for princes and let's everyone know his intention to fight Arjun, his arch rival who is another famous archer and is expecially known for being son of king of gods Indra. But Karna is stopped and his lineage is questioned, Bhima even abuses his entire caste for daring to oppose the princes instead of driving chariots after he recognised Karna's foster father charioteer Adiratha. Duryodhan uses the opportunity to recruit the formidable warrior at his side against Pandavas and shuts Bhima up by asking Bhima to challenge great warriors on the battlefield instead of badmouthing their caste and makes Karna the king of Anga thus making him an equal. Karna is so overwhelmed that he pledges his loyalty to Duryodhana and goes onto win the entire world for his sake in his famous digvijaya (conquering four directions). Karna is also known for his charitable nature, he was an ardent lord Surya's devotee and would worship the lord from dawn until noon and wouldn't Deny anything to anyone during that time especially, he was known for his love of giving which is once again is exploited by Indra the father of Arjun who comes in a disguise and begs Karna for his divine kavach kundal attached to his body that made him invincible. Karna knows the identity of who has come yet true to his words he slices off the armour and gives it to the king of gods. Finally the day of war has come, Karna is already demoralised as Krishna and Kunti try to persuade him to change sides and reveal that he is Pandavas elder brother. Yet the great Karna doesn't accept their proposal. Krishna even offers him entire world to rule and Draupadi as his wife but he denies for his friendship and loyalty. Duryodhan gave him recognition when the society was against him. He also denies to be called Kunti's son and wants the world to call him Radheya after his foster mother Radha from Suta's caste. So Karna thus fights from Kauravas side but Kunti manages to score a boon from the Daanveera that her 4 sons would be spared as she knows Arjun can't be killed with Krishna as his protection. Karna fights beautifully for days sending Lacs of Pandava warriors to yama's abode, he does as he has said and spares 4 Pandava brothers. Finally he faces off with Arjuna on 17th day. Karna is having the upper hand as expected since Krishna has already saved Arjuna twice from certain death but the curses of Karna activate and the great warrior's chariot wheel gets stuck on the ground rendering him immobile. His second curse is to forget his knowledge of Dhanurveda thus the supreme warrior who rose from a humble background is killed in an unfair manner as he is trying to take out his chariot wheel and distracted. It's said that all the people from heaven and earth cried aloud when the great and righteous Karna with Dharma in his soul was killed.

Dear Jammy,
I had tweeted this right after I saw the teaser within a few minutes of its release. The name 'Pariyerum Perumal' literally means 'the god astride a horse'. But that title had a metaphorical meaning in that film. In 'Karnan', we see that happening literally. 'Karnan' himself is the 'Pariyerum Perumal', quite literally. Even Mr BR (Mr Baradwaj Rangan) had pointed this out in his review of the film. And then there's a silhouette of Dhanush on the horse, wielding his sword (at 3:34 in this video). Did anyone notice how it looks like Karnan is riding on a unicorn? A unicorn symbolizes freedom, among other things. But this is only my interpretation of a specific shot. I'm yet to watch the film. Waiting for it to arrive on OTT.
PS. The word 'Perumal' is pronounced 'Perumaal', and the name Mari (as in Mari Selvaraj) is pronounced as 'Maari' (Remember the popular Dhanush-starrer?).
Best,
Murali
Thank you for this! I acknowledge your keen eye for detail and the several metaphors and analogies of the film! I did not want to do a deep dive as it takes away from experiencing it yourself! My attempt at pronouncing Tamil and Telugu names will be an ongoing process and will work on that fo sure!

More truth is coming people.
@ñ ñ Dravidian/Tamil is blood and history the Tamil race will never forget
@Antares British my a$$, india consists of many pagan cultures and races. Tamil race is different and Aryan race who came from outside and migrated into the culture and Lifestyle of existing pagan cultures.
@Antares what you are saying is Hindutva propaganda, travel to places and see the cultures all over India. In tamil villages The way of worship, god's, people language everything is different. It's not that hard to see people are from different races. Skull shape, facial features, physical features are so different it's mind boggling you people can't understand simple stuff.
Tamil film makers show the path to Indian Cinema on how to deal with subjects of harsh social realities. 🙏

I just love how Dhanush just takes roles as an artist and not as a star
6:11 THAT IS WHY DHANUSH IS MY FAVOURITE HERO SO EXITED TO WATCH KARNAN LOVE FROM MUMBAI
Now I can say that reviewers are giving attention to the local cinema and loved it....
Dhanush is a great actor which every one knows, now he has also proved that he is very bold & great human by accepting story like karan. The film"Karnan" deserves national award and more than that too.
Just watched....in tears 😢😭
Tamil cinema have achieved an another level......simply awesome
It's a simple story but the execution is fantastic by Mari Selvaraj. Dhanush and other actors are also fantastic.
I would like to add few more points to your comment. This is not just a simple story but a portrayal of the hard and complex reality still found many parts of the country. And Karnan is based on True incident that happened in 1995 in Tamil Nadu...
@@Abhijith4593 yes.
Before watching MAAMANNAN revisited karnan again, what a piece of work by whole team.
I remember at theatre when last shot pan out where karnan let loose for the music of Para I lost it . Stood up and gave an applause with tears.
Such moving work will connect with anyone who feels neglected to this whole system
Karnan...an absolutely classy craft with exceptional performances and magnificent making. The main feature of this film is the specific politics that conveys in heartfelt manner and, which is very intensely articulated by its creators. The symbolic representations of issues which dealt with it were particularly noteworthy. Racism, Discriminations, Oppression, Power Corruption, Determination for Survival...each and every aspect of the society was explicitly conveyed here...
Hats off to Mari Selvaraj & Team for an outstanding movie experience.🎦
Would u believe it happened truly in my state🤧🤧
Dhanush also a gold for indian cinema , he also convey the appearance of his in the movie is like ageless and also communicate through his acting .
A master actor of Indian cinema his dedication was displayed in Ranjhana without knowing the language the way he pulled a north guy accept and role.... awesome waiting for Karnan and vada Chennai 2😎
Watched it today on Amazon Prime. I am speechless, what a Masterpiece. The final dance of Dhanush gave me goosebumps. And a special mention to the music. Perfectly portraying the emotions.
This movie deserves an Oscar..❤️ A true gem in Kollywood..❤️🔥 Dhanush show stealer 🙏
dey pothum da..
It's said that whenever dhanush wears a lungi in a movie he get a national award ( Adukalam and Asuran )... Going by that logic and Jammys views sure one more national award coming Dhanush's way... Mari Selvaraj is a good director who has quickly found a fan following... Thanks for the review Jammy....
Didn't expect a non tamil guy to under stand so much abt karnan! Great work jammy and team!
that is inequality story everywhere in word because if racism or any other
@@muralikrishna-jb3oj wat? Can't understand ur sentence
Aj ka Dhanush matlab masterpiece
Film ki guranntee ,hit ki gurantee to bahut fili hero dete hai
But Dhanush is masterpiece ki gurantee
I'm so proud to understand tamil and able to understand all tollywood movies
Tamil cinema kollywood.

Jaa re jhatu
Dhanush is on fire 🔥 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hope he wins his 3rd national award for this movie
Eagerly waiting for jagame thandiram
SaNa's BGM score is Mind-blowing
Danush is a 2 time national award winner, it will be 3 times after this.
Yes he no far away from Oscar pride of Indian cinema
Well said, an epic movie... Danush is called as Nadipu Karna henceforth... He and this movie is definitely an artistic... Glad that you have recognised such a awesome Cult movie and made a video... Pure Love ❤️❤️
Just watched Karnan on Amazon ... I didn't see ur review before but I remember ur thumbnail saying ... Standing Ovation.... So as soon as I finished watching the movie I opened UA-cam to watch ur review . Completely agree its truly a masterpiece. I was getting bit restless initially as it was reminding me of Asuran but from the point when the bus was vandalised the movie just became better and better.
2h 40m doesn't feel like a drag... I watched it in one go and didn't even feeling passing of time... Its amazing how a conflict b/w two villages over a trivial matter transforms into a massive tussle b/w the antagonist & protagonist
It’s not a Trivial Matter
Dhanush is really doing incredible movies in the space of commercial cinema Vada Chennai, Asuran now Karnan.
3:29 this shows how jammy really keeps the effort while making the videos
This Movie gave me hope that we can win OSCAR this Year.
I'll make a confession, I didn't watch it till today cause I wasn't intrigued more but somehow I wanted to watch it today and man....one of the best movies of 2021 and yet I see people saying this movie is boring, how ? Imo I liked this more than asuran. And this is a Masterpiece 💫
those who are thinking to watch Radhe , i highly suggest stop right there and watch this masterpiece. its mind blowing
Not even in the list brother post 90s salman khan movies all crappy
The words you coined and explained are just ausm💯😍
Love from Tamilnadu❤️
National Award on the way ? ..... Definitely yess 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Karnan - A masterpiece criticised by our own people, celebrated and hailed by everyone else.
Another national award waiting for dhanush
Wish I could sit down with you n explain the symbolism of each frame, there is layers n layers to this film. Your review is much better than most Thamzhil reviews.
Underprivileged section of our society has to unite n fight for their rights ..Indian society is still full of casteists hypocrites..unite...agitate..educate
Bro appreciate the fact that you just dint review the movie but also did a research on the backstory!! 👏👏
Everything from South Film Industry has Quality....
Here in bollywood we have Remakes of Movies,Songs now even the movie poster are copied
There are about 20 remakes in Bollywood waiting in the pipeline. 1 from Marathi (Mulshi Pattern) and the rest from South.
@@RaviKumar-ii6cb Bollywood doesn't have anything original of their own...piece by piece gathered from different movies and thats how one bollywood movie is made
After Asuran Dhanush Gave Another Masterpiece 🙏🔥
Mari Selvaraj and Pa Rajnith: best directors to make Caste based movies
Pa. Ranjith just overrated guy, actually his movies bring caste controversy in tamilnadu.
I will put it this way: Mari Selvaraj & Pa Ranjith : best directors to show how the oppressors had been oppressing a certain class of people
Really hope it releases soon on ott. Can't afford to go to theatres at this moment
yup. it's coming to amazon prime in the second week of march dw
That's true this movie is a super duper hit. The message is loud and clear. At the same time thousand requests don't make Dhanush a demi God and push him into politics. He has already got his crores of remuneration.
one very well narrated review. loved the fine touch of a bgm in the review.
Dhanush he's an actor who doesn't stand out but when he does it will be in his own way.. And it will be talked about.... #Proud to be South Indian.. 😊
Santhosh narayan and lal should get national awards this time👍
Lal's voice is dubbed..so chances are less or does not exist...but no one can take his performance away..10Rs. Paati scene was awesome.
South Indian cinema just keeps raising the bar and exploring new themes. 👏. Once again excellent review by Jammy Pants without spoiling the movie story.
oh my god , absolutely stunning description and choice of words by you to put the movie in perspective. I find that putting ones thoughts into suitable words is itself an art which you possess. expecting more videos from you. All my thoughts about the movie was echoed here. From the way you pronounced I suppose you are not TN but still to understand the movie's theme and treatment definitely is one of your high points. You have a great future. God bless.
You have no idea how much of a good work you are doing with these reviews. Love your recommendations.
Actually I love the unbiased and upto the mark quality of Ur reviews❤️,
In our regional Tamil reviews channels we don't get reviews like urs...
I feel lucky to accidentally find Ur review for one of the Tamil movie, well ...I became Ur subscriber justaftr that😅
Just one request, we people also want to focus 'more' on other lingo movies n webseries😁😁
Well personally I would love to watch Ur review video fr Ramya Krishnan's queen webseries😌😌😌
Dhanush is one of my favorite. No matter what type of movie it is, he always makes the story his own.
Another honest review again! Great job Jammy!!!
Man, I loved this film so much. That Joker line about going 'werewolf' was so on-the-nose and cringeworthy to me though
