The main reason for this is the malayalam movie viewers. They will simply ignore the movies which lacks solid contents. If viewers of other language movies also become more demanding for the content then no doubt other language movies also improves a lot. Movie makers will be forced to come up with good content movies.

Being a foreigner with a penchant for Indian culture. I've seen over 80 Indian films in a span of few months this pandemic. I explored all the so called "Regional" Indian films from North to South through your recommendations. And I can definitely say that Malayalam film industry is the real gem. Their screenplay is simple and easy to understand in spite of coming from a different culture. Their actors don't bring a primadona vibe in relation to the characters they play which makes them very relatable and highly effective. The cinematography style and story themes are avant-garde. There are always new ideas to explore. It doesn't makes me bored and makes me actually look forward to watch more Malayalam movies the moment another one is released. I just finished watching Tovino Thomas' Kala last night. it's Superb!. And I'm about to watch Aarkkariyam few minutes from now. I just wish I have the grasp of Malayam the way I was able to learn Hindi. By the way English subtitle works. So not really an issue. Thank you very much for your recommendations. Keep on posting more film reviews. It helps me a lot to save my precious time in deciding what to watch. 💗 from the Philippines 🇵🇭

When I watch a good Telugu movie I see it got inspired by Malayalam movie . Malayalam movies are so far ahead than other languages in India . The script , BGM, direction , story telling , camera work and most importantly the subtle usage of events in the nature and relate them to story is an art mostly used in Malayalam movies .

'Kala' is a very unparalleled movie experience in Malayalam, which expresses the possibility of going to extremes for survival instead of being subjected to ruthless uprooting. It is an exposition of the dark and intense 'wildness' within man at its peak. Although the theme of the film is apparently interpreted as 'Personal Vengeance' between two individuals; it raises relevant political aspects in indirect sense...✓

The industry where actors will shine rather than stars that industry can make wonders.

In a meal, there should be all kinds of flavoured dishes. Else the meal will become bland and boring. Similarly, commercial movies cater to a large mass of people who wants entertainment more than story based ones. Malayalam movies went thru evolution to this point just bcoz they didn't have enough budgets for their movies, so a tight script with good story telling is the only way they can keep the audience hooked. It's not the case for some other industries like Telugu, Tamil and even Hindi. There are artistic gems of movies in these industries to. But since they have the budget to spend, they can invest more on the sets, visuals, action sequences, songs etc for the hard-core entertainment audiences. So, no one is better or worse. There is talent and opportunities everywhere. Just that in one or two industries, those talents are not supported enough to make those gem of movies anymore.

Well Malayalam cinema started evolving significantly in the 1980s when the VCR/VCP became commonly available in India and the Gulf employment started increasing exponentially. My first brush with Malayalam cinema was in 1990 when my uncle came back from Muscat after a 3 years employment contract. His roommate was a Mallu and in my uncle's collection of VHS cassettes was a movie called Yatra. Also I got a lot of Mallu school mates after the Gulf war and my exposure to Malayali culture started increasing. After that it was no looking back 😀

@@pkkrish There is utterly no ground in comparing a meal to a cinema. A necessity and a luxury are two different things. And it's completely idiotic to say that it is lack of budget that led to malayalam films focus on less commercial movies. Story is the king always because that's the ultimate cause. A movie can be made entertaining with commercial elements too no doubt on that, but story stands at first place. Rest no sets, no fizz in short nothing could be described as cinema. It's just a product then , just an equipment. From 2000-2006 malayalam movies also released movies for commercial operation but slowly malayalee audiences started slashing movies even starred by Mamooty and Mohanlal. Post traffic this whole wave of story centric cinema raised up and did pretty well. I don't what shame does people incur with to accept that story is the key to any movie. Rest it's just unnecessary khana poorti. There is no argument about it , it is the story , not a so called simile of mixed meal and balanced diet. Atleast be open minded enough to accept the bottom-line of cinema.

Mr. Bhaskar this shows how stupid and ignorant you are.
Even Hollywood produce lot of action movies, family entertainers, movies meant for children, Sci-fi, thrillers/ horror. There are movies like Shutter island, Pulp fiction, Lord of the rings, The usual suspects kind of movies and they too have movies like Fast and furious, Jumanji, matrix series and other Super hero stuff where you’ll be called an idiot if you find logic in that because they are meant for Entertainment. You cannot compare Pulp fiction with Spiderman Home coming.
Always comparing one industry to the other doesnt make the other great. Tamil, Telugu and Hindi can canvas huge sets, visuals and can produce movies on bigger scale like Endhiran(Robot), Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Rockstar, Anniyan(Vikram’s movie), Soorarai pottru, Bahubali, Magadheera, Ala vaikuntapuram which are meant to enteratain the audience not to educate people about logics on screen.
At the same time don’t forget they too have produced movies like
      Tamil-
      Super deluxe,
      Sillu karuppati,
      Visaranai
      Mandela
      Telugu
      C/o Kanchera palem,
      Mithunam
      Cinema bandi,
      Vedham(Allu Arjun’s movie)
      Mahanati
      Hindi- Paan Singh Tomar
      Lunch Box
      Kahani
      Pink
which is high on Story and narration instead of Visual effects. All these are examples of few new age classics from respective industries like Tamil, Telugu, Hindi.
On the other side we have Malayalam films which are high on story and narration.
P.S : Each industry has its own Strengths and weakness. Each movie has its own audience. Comparing one genre with other is nothing but a joke and technically we will be called IDIOTS.

Malayalam Film Industry is the most underrated Film Industry because of its lack of marketing. Their making and way of storytelling is next level. And when it comes to acting, even the supporting actors' performances are amazing. Happy that Malayalam movies are getting attention from all over the world.
You should watch more Malayalam classic movies. Your mind will blow. No remake can match up with it.

Watch 'Asha Jaowar Majhe' ( You will get in Amazon Prime) and 'Jonaki' ( You will get in Netflix). Both are masterpieces of one of the criminally underrated directors of The Bengali Industry, Aditya Vikram Sengupta. It will definitely be worth it. :)

The best part of Cinema Bandi movie is the Telugu dialect being used. This dialect is spoke in Andhra-Karnataka border areas including Bangalore and Kolar. This dialect was never been used in mainstream Telugu movies. Apart from this, the village innocence is definitely key driver of the script
