I've never seen a movie in this format in my life in Indian Cinema.
There is only one single guy in the entire movie who is acting, B.Parthiban. The guy is an absolute master in terms of his acting. He directed and conceptualised this movie for over 18 years.
Special shout-out to the Cameraman Ramji, wow, These guys know their stuff man!
To all the new Dhanush fans, go watch his Pudhupettai. That movie is the ultimate gangster movie you’re ever gonna watch. One of the best performance of Dhanush till date.
The biggest plus with Vetrimaran is that he understands the commercial aspects to sell a film to the common audience as well as making a beautiful art cinema. Thus contributing both to the profit and the quality. His first film Pollathavan was his most commercial film but still you can see some uniqueness and layers in the scenes. That's why none of his films got flop and at the same time got praised by the critics.
Appreciate your efforts in exploring this side of the cinema world. Again urging you to watch - D16, and vada Chennai. You'll be shocked why vada Chennai didn't receive a national award last year.

Nivin Pauly has done a splendid job and imo these three are my picks for National Awards this Yr. MOOTHON is coproduced and hindi dlgs are written by Anurag Kashyap, at least 40%of the movie is in Hindi. Its now running in theatres and watch it asap before they take it off. It is talking about taboo stuff in our society. It was premiered at Toronto this yr along with Jallikattu. Don't miss it.

You have the typical over the top action sequences where one goon comes at a time. You have an old age dhanush character doing these stunts which makes it even more unrealistic..Asuran anyways is your usual revenge drama nothing new.

@@jeetdutta6958 not 100% correct though. Tamil industry explores various genres compared to telugu and malayalam does it even more. Telugu is known for its commercial grandeur even from 70's that has been their usp but you cant say it doesn't have any art. Because most of the artistic releases stay as small scale and never reach other states despite being brilliant(there is a very strong reason why telugu movies are more commercial). Ppl know abt bahubali but not about c/o kancherapalem. Do you even know Kancherapalem is highest rated indian movies in 2018? Critics have rated it higher than andhadhun. But it failed to get any national award as it was not considered indian enough because the producer was not Indian. Not just that many outsiders don't know abt awe, mallesham, manu, agent sai srinivas athreya, brochevaru etc.

Tamil heroes are ready to throw their chocolate-boy kind of image, handsome hero etc for an in-depth movie which can connect with the audience to the bottom of their heart. Dhanush often changes his looks for the movies. Actor Karthi's looks are like the typical village get-up in KAITHI action thriller Tamil movie. Its a very interesting movie.
I watched Asuran yesterday. Dhanush, the way he walked also was art. Every actor was oozing out with sheer perfection.

Honestly Vetrimaran has no budget limitations . Dhanush helped him with the finances and partly his own money was used for his Oscar campaigning of Visaaranai . Vadachennai was made with good budget only with proper set peices. It is the raw and realistic style of Vetrimaran film making that he has such settings and clothing. He spent 5 monts in madurai researching for his second film Aadukalam .
He is comparing this movie to the bollywood movies, obviously the budget is very low. But the budget is not limited in any way I think

6 year back i started watching south movies from than never look back at Bollywood garbage.. Please sir share your explanation to marathi movies they are also a hidden gem in Indian cinema with their cast and storyline.
This movie was a haunting experience and made me question my morality and principles of non-violence. Its an Indian western in its truest form, very much like Logan and it's inspiration Shane as it covers the themes like cycle of violence, oppression by the powerful, self-honor above human life

I watched this movie a few days ago. It's such a treat to watch. I didn't watch the trailer, so i didn't have much expectations. I was completely blown away by the performances of all the actors. When Shiva's son died, I felt the pain of the family. It was like someone of my own closed ones died in a painful way. It's heart wrenching. I can't even imagine what people of lower cast in many villages go through in their day to day life.
Next watch karnan movie of Dhanush, it will awesome as this!!

I sincerely suggest you watch the Telugu film C/o Kancharapalem (streaming on Netflix). Subtlety and slice of life movie at its best.

He is following the acting method of mohanlal and he did stated many interviews. Mohanlals acting will be natural and dhanush in recent times is doing same way and excelling.
The title Asuran aka Asura .the title may be irrelevant to the movie , but the movie director vetrimaran explained why he fixed that title and why he compared this Asuras with scheduled caste people .
Asuras are demons , bad , evil said in hindu mythology but even we read thos mythology Asura's are not actually bad people they are framed as demon , bad , evil people by devas(gods) . Ramayana has different meanings if saw Ravan's perspective , naragaasura has different perspective in his visions , like this every Asura's are framed as bad as demons .
The Asuras and scheduled caste people are similarly framed as bad people , theifs , outlaws . The oppression showned on scheduled caste people , our own kiths and kins were treated badly , framed badly , oppressed badly burst into wrath . The oppressed people completely lost their temper and turned into what they actually framed the Asuras itself .
I don't see any hero in current list of actors to do better than Dhanush, may be Nawaz only if the movie was based outta UP belt.
This movie is definitely a masterpiece and very relevant one too.
This movie is not a Revenge Thriller but a Survival Thriller where the protagonist is only focused on survival of his family and the extent he will for that.
The thing I find most interesting is the arc of the characters through the movie which is seen even in the fight scenes(Like he just kills in the past, but in the present he is careful not to kill only when its absolutely necessary). It shows some discriminating practices that still exist in the society like the right to wear a chappal.
Just finished watching it. . . What a Pure Masterpiece. . . . Thank god South Indian industry finally listened to the audience and improved dubbing quality so we don't need to watch Bollywood remakes !!!
