That camera is working a treat. Excellent to see people of a slightly more advanced vintage than myself using new technology. Love watching your travels and would love to see more.
Smurphenstein thats good of you to say. Knowing that people enjoy seeing them keeps the motivation going. I have always loved gadgets so I guess that has kept me current. The tech keeps improving but the actual techniques of telling the story have remained constant. 👍
Am hooked on your videos now, such a nice pass time for me until the weather gets warmer and I try setting off in my little grey camper lol, just curious about the black screen again, do you drive with it up, I would have thought had take it down so can see out back ? Handy not to have to take it down if not too ! Thanks, Brenda
Thanks for watching Brenda. We roll the black curtain up around the pole and stuff it under the pop up roof for driving so we can see out the side windows just behind the driving seats. No need to take it down 🙂
Hi. When you travel to Portugal you must visit “Jardim do Éden” (Garden of Eden) near Bombarral, in the west coast of Portugal. After you taste Pastel de Nata, of course:)
The screen is a cheap blackout curtain we bought from B&M. Its sewn around a wooden pole that rests in the channel for the roof panels which we don’t actually use (they allow someone to sleep in the roof). Its got 2 purposes, security to prevent people looking into the van when we leave it (not that we leave anything valuable in the van) and privacy for stealth camping. We often leave it up as we are driving around. You may think that is dangerous as it cuts out the rear view but actually with it in place we are no worse off than an NV200 panel van used by a trader. The van has no rear view mirror as it originally had a metal bulkhead in that place. When we are stealth camping in a town we can either black out the windows using blinds Carol made or don’t bother with them and just use the curtain held in place by magnets to stop light leaking into the cab. From outside it looks like the van is unoccupied.
Ah brilliant, so you don’t need blinds for the front windows at night when that is in place. Does your van have the feature of rotating the front seats? Do you use that? Or not with the black screen?
mandy mandy in our van we can only rotate the passenger seat and its by far the most comfortable place to sit. We have now got into the habit of parking up in a place to relax where we don’t bother to put screens up. When its time for bed we move to the overnight stop. If its a stealth stop we don’t use the passenger seat and just lay on the bed with some cushions as a backrest. The curtain stops people seeing us. The trick is to move both seats forward and actually fold the passenger seat all the way down. Its designed to be a table that way for a van driver. That gives you the room you need to make the bed up whilst inside the van. We make the bed up in the park up spot mostly where we don’t care if we are seen.
I love a garden at rest. I know it is storing up energy for Spring!

That sounds a good stealthy routine!
