It would've been great if they just chained him with seaprision and throws him in the jail along with the gifters and then aramaki killed him when he passed by the jail cus orochi irritated him or something like that. so that it'd fit the story of ending the cycle but also the end of orochi

The prelude story with Shanks is a bit hard to read, but I understood it as: The crew was arguing on how to get Uta to sleep, Shanks hears a song and sees a woman singing a lullaby for her baby. This Inspires the crew to sing and dance for Uta.

The main problem with Yamato was her always wanting to go to sea and out of nowhere was like never mind, oda could’ve at least have a chapter where she forms her decision, those chapters with arumaki would’ve been perfect to have her realize that she would rather stay and protect wano and form her own destiny instead of trying to be like oden, people would’ve been less disappointed if they would’ve gotten an explanation
there was clearly a continuity error and logic error. In the last chapter, Yamato says on the roof that she wants to go with them. The actual chapter takes place right after that and now she says she talked to luffy and the others and they agree that she stays here? so when was yamato able to talk to luffy? just before she yelled on the roof that she'll go with. Oda must have forgotten what he wrote two weeks ago or he deliberately accepted this clear mistake because he or someone absolutely didn't want Yamato on the crew, for whatever reason. I'm just saying, one more waifu on the ship and everyone would be happier. Especially the ones making money off One Piece.

Yeah. A lot of people are overlooking this part of the chapter. This is the first time Luffy has called anyone other than Sabo and Ace his brother. Not even Zoro or Sanji. Perfect way to conclude Momo's arc/relationship with Luffy. Momo stocks going up.

I think many people (including myself) are not mainly upset about Yamato not joining but just about the way it was done. After 80 chapters of saying/doing the same thing we finally have a moment with actual character developement and it gets off-screened. Just turning around all the set-up that was done for Yamato within 3 panels/ half a page feels very rushed and unsatisfying. Oda could have easily given this a short 3-4 page flashback with Yamato talking to Luffy and the gang and properly explaining the reasons for staying and people wouldn't make such a big deal about it.
This. I am disappointed that Yamato isn't joining, but I'm even more disappointed by how it was executed. Especially since it just begs the question of what was the point of Yamato. Everything Yamato did could have been covered by another existing character and the story would have played out pretty much the same.
It invalidated the entire character and feels like Oda wasted our time. Nevermind all the countless wasted panels on fodder. But after this you can erase Yamato from the story and nothing major would change

Completely agree. I can’t believe in a single chapter Oda committed a cardinal authorial sin of “subverting expectations” and destroying an entire character’s arc, while also having the “KUROZUMI WERE BORN TO BURN” message from Hiyori a theme about continuing hatred for past generations and sins completely contradicts several themes One Piece established way back in Enies Lobby. I honestly think this is the worst chapter writing wise in all of one piece and the good in it is Jack shit compared to the bad.
I'm not the biggest Carrot fan, but if she isn't on the ship she should have at least gotten her own good bye with the Straw hats. She was with them through Wano AND WCI...and nothing?
Yeah I was pro Carrot joining and I think this is a lose lose... either Carrot got nothing for all her time with the strawhats, or she's on the crew while Yamato isn't... Either way feels wrong
She may end up putting off her duchess duties and stow away on the sunny to fulfill Pedro's dream of sailing with the pirate king and witnessing the dawn. Pero spero gave her a good lecture on accountability and I think that's why she'll try to go with luffy. That would be fine with me but I'm still holding out for law

Keep in mind humans haven’t evolved much socially in 1000 years. Our society today is very much the same as it was in ancient times but with more science instead of religion (which humans have evolved to be religious because religion instilled morality and hope which increases our survival. The evidence goes back 300,000 years ago when the first men who walked the earth buried their dead for religious reasons. In fact religion goes back just as much as slavery does as historical anthropology has shown that we enslaved each other before the formation of language)

Yamato not joining, yeah okay, kinda weird but Oda can probably do something with that. Hiyori’s speech, however, just left a sour taste in my mouth for something that’s supposed to be the conclusion of an arc revolved around the cycle of hatred. I get that it’s a call back to what Orochi said to Oden, but all it tells me that Hiyori learned absolutely nothing from her family’s past mistakes.
That was a bad translation apparently. It doesn't specify whether it was one Kurozumi (Orochi) or the entire clan in the Japanese raws, but the Japanese fans are saying it's much clearer in Japanese that she's talking about Orochi only than in the English translation.
While I understand, and to some extent agree with you, I think you're looking at it the wrong way. The people of Wano need motivation, they need celebration, and they need to be able to vent their frustrations. They've essentially been tortured and treated like slaves for the past 20+ years, and unless Momo and the Scabbards have gone around telling people, most people probably don't know they time travelled. So if the Kozuki Clan had returned, only to start saying Kurozumi's aren't that bad, and we should all work with them etc, I could see a lot of people getting upset and even blaming their hardships on the Kozuki Clan, who vanished for 20 years, and clearly didn't experience the same hardships they did. So sharing a heroic 'good triumphs over evil' story makes perfect sense. Inspires loyalty to the Kozuki's and makes people happy and proud and hopeful for the future.
One of my favorite moments in the arc is when Brook straight up just one shots one of the numbers alongside 3 or 4 gifters during the Black Maria VS Robin fight, just lowkey showing how powerful he actually is.
It's high time Brook got a full on 1v1 fight with a solid opponent. This arc we got one for Robin who really hadn't had a solid one before. I think Brook is the only one left now who needs that moment right? The top 3 have had multiple, Usopp had his with Sugar, Franky had Senor Pink and Sasaki, Nami had Khalifa all the way back in Enies Lobby, Jimbei got Who's Who and he's only just joined. Even Chopper had his in Enies Lobby too. Brook had his skirmish with Big Mom in WCI but that's one he could never feasably win so I wouldn't count it. So I'm rooting for a big Brook 1v1 in Elbaf that can showcase how far he can push himself.

Either Oda would have her say "yes" under duress, and/or be shown saying goodbye to the Strawhats. That "Pedro..." also raises questions.
Hiyori: The Korozumi were born to burn! Ok so we are going to completely forget that the only reason why Orochi made his life purpose to ruin Wano was because his parents were killed in front of him by angry citizens due to them being related to a guy who did horible things and if that never happened he would have grown up to become a theatre actor or something like that? The fact that she used that line in a play in front of a large emotional crowd ( propaganda lets call it what it is) pretty much means that she prolonged the circle of hatred even if there arent any more Korozumies around she reinforced the idea that executting people related to criminals is a totally ok thing to do. I really REALLY hope Oda adresses that.
I saw someone comment about how the theatre part really reflects Doffy's line of history being written by the winners and this weird continuation of blood-based hatred just solidified it for me

This was a very disappointing chapter for me. The only part I liked was when the Strawhats said their goodbyes to Momonosuke and the others, also when the Strawhats started sailing again. That is all. Everything else with the Yamato bait to what Hiyori said was a huge disappointment.
What hiyori said could be a translation error what she said in the scans has no sense the panels placement felt weird too. I checked some Japanese UA-cam channels and their subtitles were better than the scans part
Easily the most anti-climactic ending of any One Piece arc. Wano literally stays the same, with Hitle... I mean Hiyori, just now they have someone else to discriminate against. Too bad Greenbull didn't make it to the capital, the people would've loved him, since they are just proving his point right now. Yamato is officially a wasted character that only took away screentime from others just to have an offscreen change of mind. Lots of rushed side character plots. Hyogoro not appearing in this chapter is a crime. If not for him, Luffy wouldn't have learned how to use haki properly and Kaido would've won. Winning this war would've been impossible without him teaching Luffy. Shame. I can only hope that this is a one time screw up and Oda won't start rushing everything like this. My heart would break if One Piece would have a rushed mid ending.
Yamato's decision to stay gave me whiplash. I wish the chapter would have addressed that a bit better using some of the space taken up by unnecessary flashbacks

My favorite moments of Wano were Gear 5th and Luffy's final attack, Oden's death, Roger laughing, Adult Momonoske reveal and his speech, Shanks flexing with his conquerors haki, Kaido's flashback, God Valley and Rocks reveal and of course Buggy D. Clown becoming a yonko
This was definitely the most controversial chapter in a long time. Wano really was a roller-coaster, especially towards the end. It had some of the most hype moments in the series, but it also had a lot of really lame moments.
Should’ve had way less stupid ass fucking fodder SMILE panels, like that stair/ladders scene with Luffy & the Minks & SMILES…just unnecessary. Sometimes Oda just likes to make HIMSELF laugh I guess…
@@kararal9834 I'm not just talking about dull moments, I mean parts where Wano had straight up bad writing. Like Big Mom's amnesia, Kinemon's bait-and-switch death, all the build up for Yamato joining the crew only for that to be dropped, and also just closing it out with Hiyori saying the thing about "Kurozumi was born to be burned" just left a bad taste in my mouth. I still loved Wano for the most part but I can't ignore it's problems or say it was one of the best arcs in the series.
This chapter disappointed me for 2 reasons: Yamato decided not to join the Straw hats. We never got any clarification on zoro's connection to wano and ryuma
I hope we get to see Sabo’s new bounty (i’m assuming he’s getting a new one considering the whole “flame emperor” thing) and the straw hats new bounties soon!
Luffy giving Momo his flag reminded me of the time in fishman island when Luffy said that he would defeat big mom and make fisman island his territory as well so I wonder if he is going to do that anytime soon
About Yamato not joining: I'm not even angry, but I just feel emptiness in all of what she said throughout whole Onigashima, for over 2 years Yamato was all the way for going with Luffy after fighting with Kaido, half of her dialogues were ,,I'm going with them'' or showed her desire to go to sea. I'm not angry, I'm just dissapointed to my very core and want to know for what it all was, I want Oda to explain himself.
I just think what was the point of saying all those things, it feels like we were supposed to be baited but I don't get what the payoff is other than Yamato, Momonosuke and Kinemon showing up at the final war but that feels like such an waste of Yamato's character imo.

It's been made clear for most of the Wano arc (since Yamato showed up at least) that she wasn't going to join the crew. Definitely an ally to the crew, but not a crew member herself. From her being way too strong on top of her devil fruit, to not having her own dream (right now she is continuing to ape Oden's dream, not following her own beyond the 'be free of Kaido' bit that's already been accomplished), to not having a good crew position nor dynamic (though again, not a bad dynamic. Just not one that'd last prolonged exposure as a crew member, hence not good). Carrot is in much the same boat; she's a better fit for a Straw Hat crew member, but she's still following Pedro's dream rather than her own.
@@evaxiaolong4655 It wasn't bait. Luffy was already clear early on when Yamato first asked/demanded that he had no interest in her joining. Yamato (and those who wanted her to join) ignored that. Could it have been written better? Probably. Is it bad writing as-is? No. People are just angry/upset their hopes are dashed even though it was made clear it wasn't going to happen for dozens of chapters (at least).
Without actually looking through the chapters again, moments for me that come to mind: - "He laughed" - "At sea you fight pirates" - Chopper is not a Tanuki - both the Sanji yells for Robin and destroys the raid suit scenes (I'm already cheating, so might as well add the call to Zoro as well) - Zoro scaring Kaido and being kind of bummed it didn't "do more" - Momo yelling out his name at the raid - Yasu's last words - That first defeat of Luffy by Kaido - Killer defeating Hawkins and the "get going partner" - The first Worst generation vs Yonko faceoff on the roof - the Scabbards on their way to the port - Luffy's Gear 5 shenanigans - Marco stepping aside for Zoro and Sanji - Law's "homage" to Corazon when they defeat Big Mom - The lantern Toko makes for Yasu had me actually cry for a while so that's a very personal standout I think I'm at 15 already, but if oda can make the arc that long I can have a longer list, and I'm still gonna kick myself for forgetting really great ones. I'm currently a bit split on how much I liked the arc as a whole but when it comes to incredible moments I can't deny it had plenty.
"Get goin' partner" had no reason to be as cool as it was. It's just below "just doing my job... Captain." The sick ass panel of Killer backflipping, Hawkin's arm flying... "We make our own luck." Holy fuck that fight was awesome.

It took Killer (and even Kid by proxy as it's all about their friendship with Hawkins kind of holding him hostage) from a character I was mildly curious about to totally loving him. There is so much emotional stakes in that fight with Hawkins betrayal, Kid struggeling right now, Killer still suffering the Smile etc. and it's all condensed in that fight/chapter. It's just insanely good for some not even major characters.

@@MetalSolidCrisis The recent episode already had the moment where Killer stayed back with Hawkins and I actually loved the animation for it. They added some flashback scenes and you kind of saw some of them almost reflect and play out on top of Killer's mask. It was really good and gives me high hopes for that fight. (As someone that is currently a bit tired of the large amount of effects used on the roof portion of the fight, I actually kind of prefered it over some other things in that episode)

My bet is still on Carrot being stowed away on the Sunny, because after going through all that Carrot and the Strawhats went through on Whole Cake and then not seeing them say bye to her is weird. We'll see though, never know with Oda.
Well, Tekking pointed out last chapter that the focus wasn't really on Carrot during the Wano arc, not to mention she didn't really stand up much against Perospero, so her chances at being a Straw Hat have diminished quite a bit.
Without knowing the direction zuniesha went or how the minks getting back to Zou, she still has a chance even if it's like 10% or less, Pedro's will was to usher the dawn not lead his town, only thing she really missing is a back story and luffy seeing su long, dont think luffy seen any... maybe pekoms

Some of my favorite Wano moments Zoro's "Ronin" introduction - so badass! Yasu's execution scene - Hiyori telling Zoro about the lives of the people who ate the smile fruit, Toko's reaction, Yasu being the most amazing person ever, Zoro and Sanji side by side - So much happening in that scene! Gear 5th/Awakening All the hilarious dinosaur transformations(Queen, Sasaki, King's face/whip attack etc) Kaido's dragon form
Yamato just randomly deciding to stay on Wano out of nowhere feels so weird considering how much she talked about dreaming about leaving the country and sailing the seas....... Also the chapter as a whole felt like an actual anime filler episode.... was really not expecting Wano's last chapter to be such a let down

I'm disappointed with the curveball and I really didn't want Yamato to join in the first place. This was the most Autopilot chapter of OP I've read in the 18yrs I've been following it.

@@GirthCheck I've seen the dark side many times. I literally joined the community right as everyone was ready to send him death threats for Robin joining after Vivi decided not to. This isn't about Yamato for me, I never liked her all that much and I certainly didn't want her on the crew (grand fleet is fine) but having it happen off panel? Look at the whiplash. If you read the last two chapters back to back and take out Uta, there's like 2 pages in-between. The entire chapter was a let down for me. Skipping the most interesting interaction for a lesser one with crybaby Momo showing up again, the unnecessary "clip show" part, and the whole Kurozumi line at the end seriously rubbed me the wrong way. It'd be like after defeating Hodi, Nami had a clip show flashback of Arlong and then proclaimed "Fishmen were born to be slaves!" to wild applause. Disagree if you must. I disagree that everything Oda puts out is automatically 10/10. Overall for me this is a very 5/10 chapter, but in the context of One Piece and knowing how marvelous he is at epilogues to his big arcs, this is a 2.5/10 from him. The Yamato rug pull barely influences that since I'm personally glad she'll be a cover story character going forward and not on the Sunny.
The greatest moment in Wano in my opinion is the whole Oden flashback. When it was happening I never imagined we would get Roger's journey at that time. It served as a great background for the way Luffy ascended
What really upset me over the fact that a last minute 180 was pulled with Yamato was that Oda had us stew with anticipation and excitement for two whole weeks under the belief they were joining, and then pulled the rug out from under us. Because of that, I was too despondent to enjoy being right that the Straw Hats would leave by going over the waterfall.
If wehad a few scenes after the green bull Fight of yamato thinking about staying/ touring wano it would have so much better... Because instead of excitement we be left wondering If she is going to join._.
I’ve seen some hate for this chapter, it’s not the best chapter by any stretch, but it’s pretty good with momo crying and luffy and law getting gaslit by Kidd

The complete reversal for yamato feels like a bit of an asspull, and im not a fan. Like if oda didnt want yamato to join then why build it all the way to the point of actually being accepted into the crew, then bam out of nowhere, staying on wano. With the weakest reasoning so far. I dont mind yamato staying behind but the reasoning and way it was handled absolutely sucks
I 100% agree. It also feels like a massive waste of our time and the panels teasing it could of been used for something else. People are just going to blindly back it and somehow a genius move when it's just leaved a sour taste in my mouth. I don't understand the whole point of all that was! This Arc went on for so long yet the ending felt very rushed.... Hyping up yamato joining the crew just to pull s stupid 180° also is strange... Like why do that just to disappoint the Fans? If she wants to stay there should have been a few pages of character development to support her actions... I sure hope that rushing like that isn't goingeto be s trend in the last saga
I never got the impression that Yamato would become a Strawhat. She was only introduced in Act 3, and besides pestering Luffy to join, her only interaction with the crew was after the war was over. Only two members knew she existed before then and even less knew of her relation to Kaido. Oda introducing her so late into the arc and having little to no chemistry with the Strawhats made it a hard sell for me to buy her becoming a nakama at the end.
I agree. When Yamato was first introduced I just thought that she will travel alone and I was right haha. She is traveling first all around Wano and then set out to sea which is logical to me since Wano is pretty big and I am pretty sure she hasn't visited all parts of Wano. Yamato wants to be free and explore so she could explore all of Wano first and then set out to sea.
I never thought she'd join wither tbh. She's the guardian deity and she's not quite ready to accept herself as yamato. She's still "oden" in her head, I think she needs to fully accept herself first before she joins.
I'm really bummed out Yamato is not coming with us. I was excited that we finally get another female on the crew and someone very different from Nami and Robin. Would have been great to have a woman who's silly/naive enough to go along with Luffy, Usopp, Chopper, Franky and Brooks antics and strong enough to brawl with the boys. Her reaction to new things with Luffy was something I was really looking forward to. :/ A single panel of her looking over the flower capital or any other place of Wano thinking "(How) Beautiful!" would have been enough to sell her staying for me. She could say something like "Onigashima was my prison, but Wano is my home island and now I am free to discover it like Oden did!" Or just show her unusually brooding after the Aramaki fight and have someone point that out and we could have gone the 'protector of Wano' route if necessary. Seeing her fight against Kaido in the anime and her saying "I will sail with Luffy after we drive you out of Wano." will feel kinda hollow now. Hope we at least get a conversation on the ship or a flashback to when they talked about it, otherwise this is just very unsatisfying. BUT to end on a positive note: She will leave Wano eventually and has an invitation to the crew. Also the farewell to Momo especially was really touching. And last but not least: There might still be a rabbit in the hat (or crate/barrel) somewhere on the ship... Keeping my fingers crossed for the Carrot fans. 😉
Couldn't agree more. I think many people (including myself) are not mainly upset about Yamato not joining but just about the way it was done. After 80 chapters of saying/doing the same thing we finally have a moment with actual character developement and it gets off-screened. Just turning around all the set-up that was done for Yamato within 3 panels/ half a page feels very rushed and unsatisfying. Oda could have easily given this a short 3-4 page flashback with Yamato talking to Luffy and the gang and properly explaining the reasons for staying and people wouldn't make such a big deal about it.
@@DivZeroX Exactly. It was really bad writing for Yamato to decide at the last second not to join. It came out of nowhere and was made even worse last chapter with Carrot being confirmed to not join making Yamato even a more clear candidate.

The water is poisoned, there's no food just these strange fruits that can force you to laugh even if you'd rather cry, there's this guy from the Kurozumi clan and an other guy who's a Yonko, and they're both horrible, they are responsible for the death of Kozuki Oden. And then one day both the guy from the Kurozumi clan and the Yonko guy is defeated, and there's celebration, and all these emotions just erupt out of you that were all pushed down by 20 years of hopelessness. And you hear that Kozuki Oden's daughter said that "all the Kurozumi will burn". So what will you do? Of course you'll make sure that all the Kurozumi will burn. And not just the ones who are responsible for everything that happened to you, no. The innocent ones too. What do you think would happen to Tama if it turns out she's a Kurozumi? Will they spare her because she's cute? Because she turned the Beast Pirates to the good side? Nope. Most of the people have no idea what went down. One day they were living in a 20-year-long hell, next day everything is happy and sunshine, because a Kurozumi was rotten to the core, and since all the Kurozumi will burn then let's burn all the Kurozumi. So the way Momo and Kin'emon rile each other up, this storyteller guy riles up the people at the worst time possible. So our heroes leave Wano in not the same condition as they entered it, but maybe as bad but in a different way. Because now there will be hate crimes against the Kurozumi who had nothing to do with this. (And I shall end my rant.) EDIT: No, I shall add just three more things: 1) Just because a writer writes about something doesn't mean they agree with it. 2) Oda is a good writer. 3) This IS good writing, as it is a very realistic consequence to everything that happened in Wano.
I absolutely hated Hiyori’s speech about “The Kurozumi were born to burn” like isn’t the whole point of the arc not to repeat that cycle of hatred. It’s like fishman island, not holding all humans accountable for bad humans and Marineford, not holding Ace accountable for Roger’s crimes. So why the hell did they say “they Kurozumi” and not Orochi? It was wrong to blame the whole family on Orochi’s grandad and it was what led to Orochi being so twisted. Why haven’t they learnt their lesson at all?,
Yamato deciding seemingly suddenly not to join feels very weird and i think the abrupt nature of it is down partly to lack of intent and also all the time skips in the most recent chapters. Momonosuke telling her not to attack Greenbull because she wouldnt be there to protect them feels pointless now because she just is going to be there. Now that whole fight feels even more just like a shanks showcase and an advert for film red. The Hiyori retort to Orochi was interesting and a bit aggressive, but its understandable in the heat of the moment. The problem is that its being idolised and probably embellished by professor glasses to seem more epic than it was, which i dont think is a good thing.
Worse the hyori thing is one of the last panels of it happened before and someone like momo or kinemon remember and then explained what happened to the kurozumi it would make sense but now i cant think of Wano as much as a happy ending like the other countries and i dont know if it was on purpose
I still hope the next island is Whitebeard's island. I want the closure with Marco (for Luffy to thank him and to pass on Ace's dying words), Luffy to visit Ace's grave and a fight with Weevil to show the growth.

I agree. I think she was hyped up as a big new character (lots of merch and page time), but then there was so much arguing and fighting from the fans that the editors forced a change. Didn't want that kind of controversy for the rest of the story, especially this close to the end. I'm bummed, I really liked Yamato
Yeah, Oda has been known to be a troll, going on break on the cusp of Gear Fourth's introduction and after the Sunny was attacked by Big Mom's ship, but in those cases, it lead to either excitement or relief after the break. Having people on the edge of their seats with excitement for two weeks only for it to turn out to be for nothing just seems too cruel.
Yeah, there is no way Oda didn't want her to join. He hyped her up way too much for this ending. I refuse to believe that Oda would fumble like this on his own.
Probably the most disappointed I've ever been in a One Piece chapter. Yamato suddenly not joining, Hiyori's speech (For that one we have to wait for official translation I guess.. but still), Zoro not visiting Ryuuma's grave (maybe he did behind the scenes? wanted to see it, tho.). Many things left undone I feel like. Very weird. Is Oda ok?
Love One Piece but this was my least favorite chapter in a while. Glad to see us wrapping up Wano tho. There are so many interesting characters/arcs that we're gonna see coming up
Yeah this chapter was straight up bad to me. Hiyori basically continuing the hateful rhetoric that motivated Orochi to be a villain in the first place rubbed me the wrong way. Starting the chapter with Yamato nonchalantly saying she wasn't joining the crew after Oda himself made her a hugely important character who's dream was to sail the seas with Ace's brother since Ace couldn't come back for her. Makes her completely pointless as a character other than conveniently being able to move certain plot points during the raid. I've felt indifferent towards chapters but this is the first time in years I'm straight up disappointed.
I’ve seen people in the comments saying Yamato not joining the straw hats somehow invalidates their character, but I disagree. They said they wanted to set out to sea, but I’m pretty sure their main dream was to live free like Oden. I’m sure they will set sail one day, my current theory is with Momo and Pluton for the final war. I definitely think we will eventually flash back to the conversation Yamato had with the straw hats. Oda has done that kind of thing before. Plus, isn’t it kind of interesting how Kaido’s son became Oden and Oden’s son became Kaido? Yamato and Momo were always linked together. They spent 50 chapters together, and Yamato literally ate the fruit of the guardian deity of Wano. It’s an unexpected twist, but it’s not very far-fetched in hindsight.
Appreciate you bringing this up. Yamato not joining right now is hugely disappointing for many, myself included, but that doesn't negate the cool character we've gotten to see over the last few years. What is true is, it feels like it negates a lot of the buildup we've had for Yamato, especially since Oden went and joined the crew of the pirate king. All that said... Honestly, after all these years, I've learned to trust Oda on this stuff. I have a feeling Yamato will come back in a great way, and one that makes sense both for the character and the story as a whole
my issue is oda did nothing interesting with her. he did nothing with her being kaido's kid(the fight between them was getting there, but nothing was really achieved), nothing with her obsession with oden and now nothing with her wanting to sail the seas with luffy. she feels like a complete waste of a potentially interesting character. you can replace all her scenes in wano with different characters without losing much yet oda wasted so much time on her backstory and shit. also the way she changed her mind felt like lazy writing, there was no build up or even hints for it AND it happened off-screen. a glorified cameo in the final battle where potentially a bunch of other characters might make an appearance isn't enough to justify all the time wasted on her as for the last thing, it's really not enough, it's more of a "hey isn't it ironic that oden's kid has the same devil fruit as kaido and kaido's kid wants to be like oden?" rather than a big plot point. if for example you switched hyori and momo and when they get to wano and meet momo he actually became more like kaido in the way he sees things due to him living under his rule, that would have been an interesting twist and the parallel between momo and yamato would have played a bigger role, but as it stands in the story it's mostly superficial

I don't think Yamato is "not" not joining. The was they phrased it is that they wanna explore the island before eventually setting out to sea (presumably with the Straw Hats), which makes sense for someone who was trapped for their entire life to want to take it slow. So it's more of a Jinbe "I need to sort my affairs before joining you" situation than a Vivi situation. It was still definitely delivered waaaay too hastily and weirdly.
Momo is the vivi and rebecca situation for sure. Yamato i feel weird about because of how her dream was to break free of the shackles of kaido and the prison that is wano to be free and see the whole world like oden did. Now its like "nah by WHOLE world i meant starting with this island that ive been captive in my whole life" and this being absolutely last minute with no buildup of yamato questioning herself was a faux-pas. Literally the last chapter ended with yamato explaiming that they are joining and luffy is even down, then this chapter goes "sike, HA GOTTEM"
I would not have minded Yamato staying if Oda did not spent a YEAR having her constantly say how she wants to sail with Luffy, how she has been waiting for Luffy, make her entire backstory focused around wanting to leave and have adventures like Oden, then have a chapter specifically dedicated to adressing the potential idea she'd need to stay in Wano to protect it only for Momo to tell her she can't fight Green Bull to not "taint her sendoff", and lastly, her specifically announcing she'd be going with the Strawhats to the entire crew only about 6 chapters before this one. Literally could have just not included any of that and I'd not feel lied to.
This kinda sucks, it even made so much sense for Yamato to join the strawhats. - Ace told Yamato all about Luffy, even Luffy's dream that Sabo and Ace laughed at, but it turned out to be the same that Roger said in Oden's journal. - Yamato always wanted to leave, but couldn't because of the explosive cuffs, but Luffy took them off. - Yamato wanted to see what Oden saw (that was ripped out of the journal) about the one piece. - Yamato could had been the strawhat that kept a logbook, like Zeff (Sanji's father figure) or Oden for the Roger pirates did. (A bit why Carrot also made sense to be the lookout, as she can just Geppo her way to the crow's nest). - If the next island really is Sphinx island (just something I heard, I can't confirm it), then it would had been great for Yamato to had joined, so both Luffy and Yamato could had some closure at Ace's grave (and whitebeard's), maybe they even run into Scopper at Whitebeard's grave and he would be "the man marked in flames". The Roger pirates were rivals to the Whitebeards, but they still respected eachother. - Yamato even went through that hungerstrike and no bathing, just because Luffy was hurt.
I have to disagree with your take on the Hiyori bit, Tekking. I know it's a parallel to "Oden isn't Oden if it isn't boiled," but it sounded like she was promoting genocide. It's either bad writing or an indicator that this isn't the last we're seeing of Wano. I'm hoping it's the latter.

Oda used Rakugo style storytelling since it's Wano (Japan). And Rakugo is very intricate and isn't just simple Japanese. It's just a pun that works amazingly as a callback/parallel to Oden boiling, directed towards Orochi. So it was great writing actually just lost in translation. But anyways, your frustration abd confusion is totally understandable.

Really unfortunate that Yamato won’t be joining, the way I see it is that certain members of the straw hats will need to somehow get power boosts or they won’t be able to contend with most of the admirals of the marines nor be able to take on the ten titanic captains of the Blackbeard pirates (there’s no way you end up in level 6 without being extremely dangerous and powerful) they need to gain a few more crew members or go through some further training to gain success in the end.
We don't need a million crew members. 10 is enough in my opinion. We haven't had the OG straw hats together and interacting in like 10 years. I want to focus on them.

Zoro vs Hawkins when he DESTROYED that puppet 5. Luffy discovering gear 5 6. The 3 worst generation vs Kaido/Big Mom 7. Zoro vs King 8. The scabbards going against Kiado 9. I think that last line by Hiyori was the rakugoka embellishing the story and she never said that. It feels rather appropriate that we entered Wano when it was full of anti-Kozuki propaganda and now the stories are starting to do the opposite. Information always favoring the winners is a huge theme in One Piece, after all.
I also don't think she actually said that, since it was a rakugoka play, and I'm curious what she actually said in that instance. Hopefully it's not as hateful as what the playwrights portrayed here
I kept telling people that Yamato might not join due to Luffy never acknowledging her request to join. Though he did say Yamato could join if she ever decided to be a pirate.
Not gonna lie. I hated this chapter with a burning passion. I tried not to be too disappointed about Yamato not joining but I despise obvious fakeouts and after EVERYTHING Yamato said about joining the crew he just changes his mind off screen? Yeah, I call BS. And Hiyori's speech at the end was even worse. Even if it is true that the original Japanese text wasn't quite so....genocide-y, the fact that she uses the name of the clan still implies that she thinks the same applies to any other members who might still be hiding. At the bare minimum it confirms that the injustice of the persecution will never be addressed in the story and that Wano has learned NOTHING about the downside of having a culture so obsessed with "honor" that even random citizens will take it upon themselves to slaughter innocent actors on-stage in the name of it. Wano ended on a real low-point for me and now I can't stop thinking about every other thing in this arc I hated. There were way too many characters once again (we only needed maybe 5 scabbards, not 9). Hiyori and her story as Komurasaki felt wasted. I'm still not over how stupid the retcon of the Gomu-Gomu no Mi is and Kaido never got a backstory worth a damn so he ended up being just a cool wall for Luffy to get past. We got some interesting hints about him like the fact that he seemed to value an honorable death which I thought was gonna turn into a parallel with the samurais of Wano, but no.
It's really hard not to be upset when everything he showed with Yamato has her outright saying she's joining and displayed her fighting abilities to show how useful she would be and then at the last second decides Yamato isn't joining. I'm starting to think Oda has finally gotten sick of writing One Piece and is trying to sprint to the end.
I will never forgive Oda for not letting Yamato tag along now, like, seriously, what made her of all people change her mind?, So freaking dumb >_>. And oh boy if freaking Carrot joins up with them......BOY the salt will be unreal.....
Definitely NOT a boss move on that line that kurozumi was born to burn shouldve just said something like orochi that was a very big reversal of the entire shows theme. Plus it wasnt just hiyori who said that it was eveyone in that class or auditorium. THEY ALL SCREAMED IT TOGETHER. Which made it even more fuc@$ed up.
Wano was the first arc I was able to read week to week after catching up. It's really bittersweet that it's over, but I'm glad I was here for the journey!
With Yamato's "Character" to Kaido maybe still being alive, and ending Wano with a controversial message from Hiryori. Its almost like Wano arc never happened lol
@@yuidesu5625 Ehh idk if we can definitively say that she's quite that strong. For one, I highly doubt Kaido was trying to seriously hurt/kill her. If he actually hated Yamato, he would've just offed her. Zoro tanked what we can assume is the most powerful attack we've ever seen in One Piece (Big Mom/Kaido combo attack). Then he continued to fight with Big Mom and Kaido after that, and right after went on to fight the 2nd strongest member of the Beast Pirates, King (who is probably at least as strong as Katakuri who was the main opponent of Luffy). Yamato is definitely super strong (at the very least she's roughly on par with Zoro/Sanji/Jinbe if nothing else), but she just doesn't have enough feats to properly judge her strength and compare it to someone we've seen fight numerous opponents. Also, Yamato didn't do any lasting damage to Kaido. Zoro gave him a new scar and reminded him of Oden who could clash with characters like Whitebeard and Roger and was the one person Kaido respected from all of Wano prior to the Onigashima Raid happening.
My favorite part is ODEN vs KAIDO that was epic , and then the scene with ODEN and the scabbards getting boiled and he rescues them and says "ODEN WAS MEANT YO BE BOILED" that was so effing EPIC it made him one of my favorite characters in the whole show
Despite the issues that Wano has, I still really enjoyed this arc overall. Some of my favorite moments (in no particular order) were Roof Piece Oden Flashback Robin vs Black Maria Sanji vs Queen Zoro vs King Gear 5 Momo declaring Luffy’s victory over Kaido I could go on but I really enjoyed this arc. Can’t wait to binge read this arc
The wano arc disappointed me very much tbh this was hyped up for years and for what a bunch of off screen and mediocre fights and like a few good moments and the ending just left a bad taste in my mouth
Yamato staying on wano is the biggest disappointment yet, But at least we can expect a great Rogersbace reaction when he releases he lost his bet against his viewers (can't wait to see if he keeps his promise I am one of the winners 😉)

This arc only took 4 years, and 1 month so we might arrive to the end of this story before year 2050. Too bad about the Yamato fate, but it's similar to all Princess fates in One Piece story. So what we will get next?
I honestly consider Wano to be a Saga, like Water 7, with the mainland story in Wano being its own arc and the Onigashima battle being its own arc as well (like Enies Lobby). Post Onigashima is also technically a small arc.
See yamato staying isnt the same as the princess fates, that designation goes to momo, who wants to go but wont because of shogun duties, not making the mistake his father did. Yamato not joining was because she wants to see more of the world, but not the world world, just wano, which throws away the whole long arc about her finally getting away from wano and seeing the WHOLE world as a free person not shackled by their father.
So many weird, unsatisfying, unexplained conclusions/resolutions. Why all of a sudden does Yamato not join the Straw Hats (after an entire arc of buildup to her joining)? What happened/where are the Big Mom pirates? Perospero? Where’s Marco? Shanks and Ryokugyu (what was even the point of them showing up in Wano)? Where’d they go? And also Carrot. Idk if it was a cop out for her to not join the Straw Hats (which is disappointing itself) but I think there could’ve been a better reason for it instead of “Ruling over Zou” since I can think of MANY other Minks better suited for that role. Wanda, prime example. Makes more sense to me personally that Carrot would carry on Pedro’s will in helping the Straw Hats by joining, like Pedro wanted to join Roger. I was just disappointed with quite a bit in this chapter than I have with probably any other chapter. It’s not a big deal, I can move past it easily, as a longtime fan. Just a bummer… so far..
I agree, there are too many loose ends. And these characters are celebrating too damn early. What if kaido and big mom just flew out of the volcano. And then the battle continues until someone is dead.....
I hope that many things will be addresed over time in following chapters although some of them dont seem urgent. I mean do we really need to know where Marco is right now when the probable course of action for him is to go back to WBs childhood island. (Tho it would have been nice a farewell scene with him and the gang) I like to think that both Jack and Perospero are dead, cause their purpose on story is fulfilled but anything else from them I dont think is necessary. For the big mom pirates I hope we will be shown what happened to them and their reaction to Big Moms defeat and abscence (or death). For Shanks and Ryokugyu is clear that the former went to the island where Barto burned down his flag and that the latter just went back to Marine HQ. For Carrot, I would love to see her joining and following Pedro's will, and the fact Yamato is not becoming a nakama and that it wasnt really confirmed that Carrot accepted to be the Queen of Zou, it opens the possibility of her joining, but everything can happen. Hope the next episodes get better for you!
@@spideyv5750 Yeah, idk why I mentioned Perospero. I could care less what happens to him lol. But with Shanks and Ryokugyu, I just wanna know why they were in Wano at all. Shanks obviously to stop Ryo, like Marineford, but then that begs the question of why on earth Ryo was there to begin with? The only thing I can think of is One Piece being in a rush now and Ryo needed to be revealed. Which is fine. I just think it was lame given that the previous Admiral’s were revealed then we saw them for an entire arc, not just a few chapters ending with pants wetting. The future chapters I know I’ll enjoy, just some odd stuff in this one. I assume Oda will fit it all in a nice bow like he has many times before lol.
I think there is a chance, Oda would not give Carrot an offscreen goodbye, and nothing was foreshadowing her leading Zou. She clearly did not want to and her final word "Pedro..." clearly shows that Pedro's Will still weighs on her mind. She cannot carry out his Inherited Will if she follows Perospero's advice to go home and nibble grass.
One of my favorite moment, aside form the reveal of the Nika DF (both luffy's smile and him posing in front of the moon), is when robin tells black maria how much she is glad that Sanji called for her help.
That was a good moment, not on Sanji's part...Sanji's gimmick is very stupid...but great for Robin no doubt. Honestly if this wasn't a shonen Robin would be the MVP of every arc.
When I saw the Orochi part of the chapter it was actually my very first thought that I can't wait for your review if only to get the Orochi voice a last time. 😆 Not sure if that or the Momo scenes were the most quintessential flashback of the chapter to summarize the Wano experience.

I'm kinda thinking that hiyori saying koruzumis are coals and they're born to be burned gave the cycle of revenge vibes. ik she endured alot and he ruined the entire country. but still the cycle should stop. wano is all about that. to end the cycle, to open the boarders to the outside world, to end the anarchy and to end the cycle of hating and dissing on people who wants to go out to the sea. It would've been great if they just chained him with seaprision and throws him in the jail along with the gifters and then aramaki killed him when he passed by the jail cus orochi irritated him or something like that. so that it'd fit the story of ending the cycle but also the end of orochi

The prelude story with Shanks is a bit hard to read, but I understood it as: The crew was arguing on how to get Uta to sleep, Shanks hears a song and sees a woman singing a lullaby for her baby. This Inspires the crew to sing and dance for Uta.

The main problem with Yamato was her always wanting to go to sea and out of nowhere was like never mind, oda could’ve at least have a chapter where she forms her decision, those chapters with arumaki would’ve been perfect to have her realize that she would rather stay and protect wano and form her own destiny instead of trying to be like oden, people would’ve been less disappointed if they would’ve gotten an explanation

The actual chapter takes place right after that and now she says she talked to luffy and the others and they agree that she stays here? so when was yamato able to talk to luffy? just before she yelled on the roof that she'll go with.
Oda must have forgotten what he wrote two weeks ago or he deliberately accepted this clear mistake because he or someone absolutely didn't want Yamato on the crew, for whatever reason.
I'm just saying, one more waifu on the ship and everyone would be happier. Especially the ones making money off One Piece.

Yeah. A lot of people are overlooking this part of the chapter. This is the first time Luffy has called anyone other than Sabo and Ace his brother. Not even Zoro or Sanji. Perfect way to conclude Momo's arc/relationship with Luffy. Momo stocks going up.

I think many people (including myself) are not mainly upset about Yamato not joining but just about the way it was done. After 80 chapters of saying/doing the same thing we finally have a moment with actual character developement and it gets off-screened. Just turning around all the set-up that was done for Yamato within 3 panels/ half a page feels very rushed and unsatisfying.
Oda could have easily given this a short 3-4 page flashback with Yamato talking to Luffy and the gang and properly explaining the reasons for staying and people wouldn't make such a big deal about it.

This. I am disappointed that Yamato isn't joining, but I'm even more disappointed by how it was executed. Especially since it just begs the question of what was the point of Yamato. Everything Yamato did could have been covered by another existing character and the story would have played out pretty much the same.
It invalidated the entire character and feels like Oda wasted our time. Nevermind all the countless wasted panels on fodder. But after this you can erase Yamato from the story and nothing major would change

Completely agree. I can’t believe in a single chapter Oda committed a cardinal authorial sin of “subverting expectations” and destroying an entire character’s arc, while also having the “KUROZUMI WERE BORN TO BURN” message from Hiyori a theme about continuing hatred for past generations and sins completely contradicts several themes One Piece established way back in Enies Lobby.
I honestly think this is the worst chapter writing wise in all of one piece and the good in it is Jack shit compared to the bad.
I'm not the biggest Carrot fan, but if she isn't on the ship she should have at least gotten her own good bye with the Straw hats. She was with them through Wano AND WCI...and nothing?

Hiyori’s speech, however, just left a sour taste in my mouth for something that’s supposed to be the conclusion of an arc revolved around the cycle of hatred. I get that it’s a call back to what Orochi said to Oden, but all it tells me that Hiyori learned absolutely nothing from her family’s past mistakes.

That was a bad translation apparently. It doesn't specify whether it was one Kurozumi (Orochi) or the entire clan in the Japanese raws, but the Japanese fans are saying it's much clearer in Japanese that she's talking about Orochi only than in the English translation.
While I understand, and to some extent agree with you, I think you're looking at it the wrong way.
The people of Wano need motivation, they need celebration, and they need to be able to vent their frustrations. They've essentially been tortured and treated like slaves for the past 20+ years, and unless Momo and the Scabbards have gone around telling people, most people probably don't know they time travelled. So if the Kozuki Clan had returned, only to start saying Kurozumi's aren't that bad, and we should all work with them etc, I could see a lot of people getting upset and even blaming their hardships on the Kozuki Clan, who vanished for 20 years, and clearly didn't experience the same hardships they did.
So sharing a heroic 'good triumphs over evil' story makes perfect sense. Inspires loyalty to the Kozuki's and makes people happy and proud and hopeful for the future.

One of my favorite moments in the arc is when Brook straight up just one shots one of the numbers alongside 3 or 4 gifters during the Black Maria VS Robin fight, just lowkey showing how powerful he actually is.
It's sad that brook doesnt get many props in-story, the problem is his one-slash style of fighting & speed just doesnt work to make a long battle.
It's high time Brook got a full on 1v1 fight with a solid opponent. This arc we got one for Robin who really hadn't had a solid one before. I think Brook is the only one left now who needs that moment right? The top 3 have had multiple, Usopp had his with Sugar, Franky had Senor Pink and Sasaki, Nami had Khalifa all the way back in Enies Lobby, Jimbei got Who's Who and he's only just joined. Even Chopper had his in Enies Lobby too. Brook had his skirmish with Big Mom in WCI but that's one he could never feasably win so I wouldn't count it. So I'm rooting for a big Brook 1v1 in Elbaf that can showcase how far he can push himself.

The fact that she used that line in a play in front of a large emotional crowd ( propaganda lets call it what it is) pretty much means that she prolonged the circle of hatred even if there arent any more Korozumies around she reinforced the idea that executting people related to criminals is a totally ok thing to do. I really REALLY hope Oda adresses that.
I saw someone comment about how the theatre part really reflects Doffy's line of history being written by the winners and this weird continuation of blood-based hatred just solidified it for me

I think we’re really over thinking a punny one liner that was a callback to her father’s last words as an ironic echo.
This was a very disappointing chapter for me. The only part I liked was when the Strawhats said their goodbyes to Momonosuke and the others, also when the Strawhats started sailing again. That is all. Everything else with the Yamato bait to what Hiyori said was a huge disappointment.
But even that goodbye wasnt nearly as iconic or cinematic as some of the other goodbyes, which feels really weird to me
And also we haven't found out wtf happened to big mom and kaido.
What hiyori said could be a translation error what she said in the scans has no sense the panels placement felt weird too. I checked some Japanese UA-cam channels and their subtitles were better than the scans part

Wano literally stays the same, with Hitle... I mean Hiyori, just now they have someone else to discriminate against. Too bad Greenbull didn't make it to the capital, the people would've loved him, since they are just proving his point right now. Yamato is officially a wasted character that only took away screentime from others just to have an offscreen change of mind. Lots of rushed side character plots. Hyogoro not appearing in this chapter is a crime. If not for him, Luffy wouldn't have learned how to use haki properly and Kaido would've won. Winning this war would've been impossible without him teaching Luffy.
Shame. I can only hope that this is a one time screw up and Oda won't start rushing everything like this. My heart would break if One Piece would have a rushed mid ending.
The "Kurozumi was born to Burn!" is also modified version of Odens Saying "Oden was born to Boil!"
Yamato's decision to stay gave me whiplash. I wish the chapter would have addressed that a bit better using some of the space taken up by unnecessary flashbacks

Why she’s a dreadful character
My favorite moments of Wano were Gear 5th and Luffy's final attack, Oden's death, Roger laughing, Adult Momonoske reveal and his speech, Shanks flexing with his conquerors haki, Kaido's flashback, God Valley and Rocks reveal and of course Buggy D. Clown becoming a yonko
These are some crazy highs, on top of all the bounty drops. Just wish the arc was fleshed out and wrapped up with a little more time put into it

This was definitely the most controversial chapter in a long time. Wano really was a roller-coaster, especially towards the end. It had some of the most hype moments in the series, but it also had a lot of really lame moments.
Should’ve had way less stupid ass fucking fodder SMILE panels, like that stair/ladders scene with Luffy & the Minks & SMILES…just unnecessary. Sometimes Oda just likes to make HIMSELF laugh I guess…

Like Big Mom's amnesia, Kinemon's bait-and-switch death, all the build up for Yamato joining the crew only for that to be dropped, and also just closing it out with Hiyori saying the thing about "Kurozumi was born to be burned" just left a bad taste in my mouth. I still loved Wano for the most part but I can't ignore it's problems or say it was one of the best arcs in the series.
This chapter disappointed me for 2 reasons:
Yamato decided not to join the Straw hats.
We never got any clarification on zoro's connection to wano and ryuma
I thought oda did the second part in sds saying he wasn’t connected to ryuma
Yamato really just hit us all with the “haha no I lie”

About Yamato not joining: I'm not even angry, but I just feel emptiness in all of what she said throughout whole Onigashima, for over 2 years Yamato was all the way for going with Luffy after fighting with Kaido, half of her dialogues were ,,I'm going with them'' or showed her desire to go to sea. I'm not angry, I'm just dissapointed to my very core and want to know for what it all was, I want Oda to explain himself.
I just think what was the point of saying all those things, it feels like we were supposed to be baited but I don't get what the payoff is other than Yamato, Momonosuke and Kinemon showing up at the final war but that feels like such an waste of Yamato's character imo.

It's been made clear for most of the Wano arc (since Yamato showed up at least) that she wasn't going to join the crew. Definitely an ally to the crew, but not a crew member herself.
From her being way too strong on top of her devil fruit, to not having her own dream (right now she is continuing to ape Oden's dream, not following her own beyond the 'be free of Kaido' bit that's already been accomplished), to not having a good crew position nor dynamic (though again, not a bad dynamic. Just not one that'd last prolonged exposure as a crew member, hence not good).
Carrot is in much the same boat; she's a better fit for a Straw Hat crew member, but she's still following Pedro's dream rather than her own.

It wasn't bait. Luffy was already clear early on when Yamato first asked/demanded that he had no interest in her joining. Yamato (and those who wanted her to join) ignored that.
Could it have been written better? Probably. Is it bad writing as-is? No. People are just angry/upset their hopes are dashed even though it was made clear it wasn't going to happen for dozens of chapters (at least).
Without actually looking through the chapters again, moments for me that come to mind:

- both the Sanji yells for Robin and destroys the raid suit scenes (I'm already cheating, so might as well add the call to Zoro as well)
- Zoro scaring Kaido and being kind of bummed it didn't "do more"
- Momo yelling out his name at the raid
- Yasu's last words
- That first defeat of Luffy by Kaido
- Killer defeating Hawkins and the "get going partner"
- The first Worst generation vs Yonko faceoff on the roof
- the Scabbards on their way to the port
- Luffy's Gear 5 shenanigans
- Marco stepping aside for Zoro and Sanji
- Law's "homage" to Corazon when they defeat Big Mom
- The lantern Toko makes for Yasu had me actually cry for a while so that's a very personal standout
I think I'm at 15 already, but if oda can make the arc that long I can have a longer list, and I'm still gonna kick myself for forgetting really great ones.
I'm currently a bit split on how much I liked the arc as a whole but when it comes to incredible moments I can't deny it had plenty.
"Get goin' partner" had no reason to be as cool as it was. It's just below "just doing my job... Captain."
The sick ass panel of Killer backflipping, Hawkin's arm flying... "We make our own luck." Holy fuck that fight was awesome.
@@MetalSolidCrisis that fight is pretty much my favorite one during Wano. It took Killer (and even Kid by proxy as it's all about their friendship with Hawkins kind of holding him hostage) from a character I was mildly curious about to totally loving him. There is so much emotional stakes in that fight with Hawkins betrayal, Kid struggeling right now, Killer still suffering the Smile etc. and it's all condensed in that fight/chapter. It's just insanely good for some not even major characters.

@@MetalSolidCrisis The recent episode already had the moment where Killer stayed back with Hawkins and I actually loved the animation for it. They added some flashback scenes and you kind of saw some of them almost reflect and play out on top of Killer's mask. It was really good and gives me high hopes for that fight. (As someone that is currently a bit tired of the large amount of effects used on the roof portion of the fight, I actually kind of prefered it over some other things in that episode)

Let everybody know Carrot doesn't say farewell to the Strawhats even though she's been with them longer than Yamato that's why it looks odd on why she wasn't present there but Yamato instead? Unless she is....
I’d say at this point Yamato & Carrot are as much of a Straw Hat as Vivi is. In our hearts they are, but they aren’t official ones like Jimbei is.

Well, Tekking pointed out last chapter that the focus wasn't really on Carrot during the Wano arc, not to mention she didn't really stand up much against Perospero, so her chances at being a Straw Hat have diminished quite a bit.

Yamato just randomly deciding to stay on Wano out of nowhere feels so weird considering how much she talked about dreaming about leaving the country and sailing the seas....... Also the chapter as a whole felt like an actual anime filler episode.... was really not expecting Wano's last chapter to be such a let down

This isn't about Yamato for me, I never liked her all that much and I certainly didn't want her on the crew (grand fleet is fine) but having it happen off panel?
Look at the whiplash. If you read the last two chapters back to back and take out Uta, there's like 2 pages in-between. The entire chapter was a let down for me. Skipping the most interesting interaction for a lesser one with crybaby Momo showing up again, the unnecessary "clip show" part, and the whole Kurozumi line at the end seriously rubbed me the wrong way.
It'd be like after defeating Hodi, Nami had a clip show flashback of Arlong and then proclaimed "Fishmen were born to be slaves!" to wild applause.
Disagree if you must. I disagree that everything Oda puts out is automatically 10/10. Overall for me this is a very 5/10 chapter, but in the context of One Piece and knowing how marvelous he is at epilogues to his big arcs, this is a 2.5/10 from him.
The Yamato rug pull barely influences that since I'm personally glad she'll be a cover story character going forward and not on the Sunny.
The greatest moment in Wano in my opinion is the whole Oden flashback.
When it was happening I never imagined we would get Roger's journey at that time. It served as a great background for the way Luffy ascended

What really upset me over the fact that a last minute 180 was pulled with Yamato was that Oda had us stew with anticipation and excitement for two whole weeks under the belief they were joining, and then pulled the rug out from under us. Because of that, I was too despondent to enjoy being right that the Straw Hats would leave by going over the waterfall.
Yamato doesn't go by they.

Because some of the stuff on here is definitely the former , like how does anyone co sider Aokiji vs Akainu a real offscreen? It's something that happened during the ts and was used to explain some of what happened in the world. Why would we need to see that besides people wanting to see a hype fight? Like how much lore gets dumped or events happening outside of the strawhats view on the regular because its a huge world , yet that stuff is considered fine even though this fight is the same thing. It just makes no sense to me , feels like offscreen is just a buzzword at this point.

I never got the impression that Yamato would become a Strawhat. She was only introduced in Act 3, and besides pestering Luffy to join, her only interaction with the crew was after the war was over. Only two members knew she existed before then and even less knew of her relation to Kaido. Oda introducing her so late into the arc and having little to no chemistry with the Strawhats made it a hard sell for me to buy her becoming a nakama at the end.
I agree. When Yamato was first introduced I just thought that she will travel alone and I was right haha. She is traveling first all around Wano and then set out to sea which is logical to me since Wano is pretty big and I am pretty sure she hasn't visited all parts of Wano. Yamato wants to be free and explore so she could explore all of Wano first and then set out to sea.
I never thought she'd join wither tbh. She's the guardian deity and she's not quite ready to accept herself as yamato. She's still "oden" in her head, I think she needs to fully accept herself first before she joins.
I'm really bummed out Yamato is not coming with us. I was excited that we finally get another female on the crew and someone very different from Nami and Robin. Would have been great to have a woman who's silly/naive enough to go along with Luffy, Usopp, Chopper, Franky and Brooks antics and strong enough to brawl with the boys. Her reaction to new things with Luffy was something I was really looking forward to. :/
A single panel of her looking over the flower capital or any other place of Wano thinking "(How) Beautiful!" would have been enough to sell her staying for me. She could say something like "Onigashima was my prison, but Wano is my home island and now I am free to discover it like Oden did!" Or just show her unusually brooding after the Aramaki fight and have someone point that out and we could have gone the 'protector of Wano' route if necessary.
Seeing her fight against Kaido in the anime and her saying "I will sail with Luffy after we drive you out of Wano." will feel kinda hollow now. Hope we at least get a conversation on the ship or a flashback to when they talked about it, otherwise this is just very unsatisfying.
BUT to end on a positive note: She will leave Wano eventually and has an invitation to the crew. Also the farewell to Momo especially was really touching.
And last but not least: There might still be a rabbit in the hat (or crate/barrel) somewhere on the ship... Keeping my fingers crossed for the Carrot fans. 😉

I think many people (including myself) are not mainly upset about Yamato not joining but just about the way it was done. After 80 chapters of saying/doing the same thing we finally have a moment with actual character developement and it gets off-screened. Just turning around all the set-up that was done for Yamato within 3 panels/ half a page feels very rushed and unsatisfying.
Oda could have easily given this a short 3-4 page flashback with Yamato talking to Luffy and the gang and properly explaining the reasons for staying and people wouldn't make such a big deal about it.

35:36 Ultimate pun? Yeah, no, this is terrible. Imagine yourself being repressed for 20 years. Worst decades of your life. The water is poisoned, there's no food just these strange fruits that can force you to laugh even if you'd rather cry, there's this guy from the Kurozumi clan and an other guy who's a Yonko, and they're both horrible, they are responsible for the death of Kozuki Oden. And then one day both the guy from the Kurozumi clan and the Yonko guy is defeated, and there's celebration, and all these emotions just erupt out of you that were all pushed down by 20 years of hopelessness. And you hear that Kozuki Oden's daughter said that "all the Kurozumi will burn". So what will you do? Of course you'll make sure that all the Kurozumi will burn. And not just the ones who are responsible for everything that happened to you, no. The innocent ones too. What do you think would happen to Tama if it turns out she's a Kurozumi? Will they spare her because she's cute? Because she turned the Beast Pirates to the good side? Nope. Most of the people have no idea what went down. One day they were living in a 20-year-long hell, next day everything is happy and sunshine, because a Kurozumi was rotten to the core, and since all the Kurozumi will burn then let's burn all the Kurozumi. So the way Momo and Kin'emon rile each other up, this storyteller guy riles up the people at the worst time possible. So our heroes leave Wano in not the same condition as they entered it, but maybe as bad but in a different way. Because now there will be hate crimes against the Kurozumi who had nothing to do with this. (And I shall end my rant.)
EDIT: No, I shall add just three more things: 1) Just because a writer writes about something doesn't mean they agree with it. 2) Oda is a good writer. 3) This IS good writing, as it is a very realistic consequence to everything that happened in Wano.
I absolutely hated Hiyori’s speech about “The Kurozumi were born to burn” like isn’t the whole point of the arc not to repeat that cycle of hatred. It’s like fishman island, not holding all humans accountable for bad humans and Marineford, not holding Ace accountable for Roger’s crimes. So why the hell did they say “they Kurozumi” and not Orochi? It was wrong to blame the whole family on Orochi’s grandad and it was what led to Orochi being so twisted. Why haven’t they learnt their lesson at all?,
Because it wouldn’t have worked with the pun. That’s it.
Yamato deciding seemingly suddenly not to join feels very weird and i think the abrupt nature of it is down partly to lack of intent and also all the time skips in the most recent chapters. Momonosuke telling her not to attack Greenbull because she wouldnt be there to protect them feels pointless now because she just is going to be there. Now that whole fight feels even more just like a shanks showcase and an advert for film red.
The Hiyori retort to Orochi was interesting and a bit aggressive, but its understandable in the heat of the moment. The problem is that its being idolised and probably embellished by professor glasses to seem more epic than it was, which i dont think is a good thing.
Worse the hyori thing is one of the last panels of it happened before and someone like momo or kinemon remember and then explained what happened to the kurozumi it would make sense but now i cant think of Wano as much as a happy ending like the other countries and i dont know if it was on purpose
I still hope the next island is Whitebeard's island. I want the closure with Marco (for Luffy to thank him and to pass on Ace's dying words), Luffy to visit Ace's grave and a fight with Weevil to show the growth.

I agree. I think she was hyped up as a big new character (lots of merch and page time), but then there was so much arguing and fighting from the fans that the editors forced a change. Didn't want that kind of controversy for the rest of the story, especially this close to the end. I'm bummed, I really liked Yamato
Yeah, Oda has been known to be a troll, going on break on the cusp of Gear Fourth's introduction and after the Sunny was attacked by Big Mom's ship, but in those cases, it lead to either excitement or relief after the break. Having people on the edge of their seats with excitement for two weeks only for it to turn out to be for nothing just seems too cruel.

Probably the most disappointed I've ever been in a One Piece chapter. Yamato suddenly not joining, Hiyori's speech (For that one we have to wait for official translation I guess.. but still), Zoro not visiting Ryuuma's grave (maybe he did behind the scenes? wanted to see it, tho.). Many things left undone I feel like. Very weird. Is Oda ok?

Yeah this chapter was straight up bad to me. Hiyori basically continuing the hateful rhetoric that motivated Orochi to be a villain in the first place rubbed me the wrong way. Starting the chapter with Yamato nonchalantly saying she wasn't joining the crew after Oda himself made her a hugely important character who's dream was to sail the seas with Ace's brother since Ace couldn't come back for her. Makes her completely pointless as a character other than conveniently being able to move certain plot points during the raid. I've felt indifferent towards chapters but this is the first time in years I'm straight up disappointed.

I’ve seen people in the comments saying Yamato not joining the straw hats somehow invalidates their character, but I disagree. They said they wanted to set out to sea, but I’m pretty sure their main dream was to live free like Oden. I’m sure they will set sail one day, my current theory is with Momo and Pluton for the final war. I definitely think we will eventually flash back to the conversation Yamato had with the straw hats. Oda has done that kind of thing before.
Plus, isn’t it kind of interesting how Kaido’s son became Oden and Oden’s son became Kaido? Yamato and Momo were always linked together. They spent 50 chapters together, and Yamato literally ate the fruit of the guardian deity of Wano. It’s an unexpected twist, but it’s not very far-fetched in hindsight.
Appreciate you bringing this up. Yamato not joining right now is hugely disappointing for many, myself included, but that doesn't negate the cool character we've gotten to see over the last few years. What is true is, it feels like it negates a lot of the buildup we've had for Yamato, especially since Oden went and joined the crew of the pirate king.
All that said... Honestly, after all these years, I've learned to trust Oda on this stuff. I have a feeling Yamato will come back in a great way, and one that makes sense both for the character and the story as a whole

my issue is oda did nothing interesting with her. he did nothing with her being kaido's kid(the fight between them was getting there, but nothing was really achieved), nothing with her obsession with oden and now nothing with her wanting to sail the seas with luffy. she feels like a complete waste of a potentially interesting character. you can replace all her scenes in wano with different characters without losing much yet oda wasted so much time on her backstory and shit. also the way she changed her mind felt like lazy writing, there was no build up or even hints for it AND it happened off-screen. a glorified cameo in the final battle where potentially a bunch of other characters might make an appearance isn't enough to justify all the time wasted on her
as for the last thing, it's really not enough, it's more of a "hey isn't it ironic that oden's kid has the same devil fruit as kaido and kaido's kid wants to be like oden?" rather than a big plot point. if for example you switched hyori and momo and when they get to wano and meet momo he actually became more like kaido in the way he sees things due to him living under his rule, that would have been an interesting twist and the parallel between momo and yamato would have played a bigger role, but as it stands in the story it's mostly superficial

I don't think Yamato is "not" not joining. The was they phrased it is that they wanna explore the island before eventually setting out to sea (presumably with the Straw Hats), which makes sense for someone who was trapped for their entire life to want to take it slow. So it's more of a Jinbe "I need to sort my affairs before joining you" situation than a Vivi situation. It was still definitely delivered waaaay too hastily and weirdly.
Momo is the vivi and rebecca situation for sure.
Yamato i feel weird about because of how her dream was to break free of the shackles of kaido and the prison that is wano to be free and see the whole world like oden did. Now its like "nah by WHOLE world i meant starting with this island that ive been captive in my whole life" and this being absolutely last minute with no buildup of yamato questioning herself was a faux-pas.
Literally the last chapter ended with yamato explaiming that they are joining and luffy is even down, then this chapter goes "sike, HA GOTTEM"

I would not have minded Yamato staying if Oda did not spent a YEAR having her constantly say how she wants to sail with Luffy, how she has been waiting for Luffy, make her entire backstory focused around wanting to leave and have adventures like Oden, then have a chapter specifically dedicated to adressing the potential idea she'd need to stay in Wano to protect it only for Momo to tell her she can't fight Green Bull to not "taint her sendoff", and lastly, her specifically announcing she'd be going with the Strawhats to the entire crew only about 6 chapters before this one.
Literally could have just not included any of that and I'd not feel lied to.
This kinda sucks, it even made so much sense for Yamato to join the strawhats.
- Ace told Yamato all about Luffy, even Luffy's dream that Sabo and Ace laughed at, but it turned out to be the same that Roger said in Oden's journal.
- Yamato always wanted to leave, but couldn't because of the explosive cuffs, but Luffy took them off.
- Yamato wanted to see what Oden saw (that was ripped out of the journal) about the one piece.
- Yamato could had been the strawhat that kept a logbook, like Zeff (Sanji's father figure) or Oden for the Roger pirates did. (A bit why Carrot also made sense to be the lookout, as she can just Geppo her way to the crow's nest).
- If the next island really is Sphinx island (just something I heard, I can't confirm it), then it would had been great for Yamato to had joined, so both Luffy and Yamato could had some closure at Ace's grave (and whitebeard's), maybe they even run into Scopper at Whitebeard's grave and he would be "the man marked in flames". The Roger pirates were rivals to the Whitebeards, but they still respected eachother.
- Yamato even went through that hungerstrike and no bathing, just because Luffy was hurt.
I have to disagree with your take on the Hiyori bit, Tekking. I know it's a parallel to "Oden isn't Oden if it isn't boiled," but it sounded like she was promoting genocide. It's either bad writing or an indicator that this isn't the last we're seeing of Wano. I'm hoping it's the latter.
Tekking stays kissing Oda’s ass for the sake of his career. He never ever criticizes him for anything & it’s pretty damn annoying. Like a little kid talking about their dad.
Oda used Rakugo style storytelling since it's Wano (Japan). And Rakugo is very intricate and isn't just simple Japanese. It's just a pun that works amazingly as a callback/parallel to Oden boiling, directed towards Orochi. So it was great writing actually just lost in translation. But anyways, your frustration abd confusion is totally understandable.

Really unfortunate that Yamato won’t be joining, the way I see it is that certain members of the straw hats will need to somehow get power boosts or they won’t be able to contend with most of the admirals of the marines nor be able to take on the ten titanic captains of the Blackbeard pirates (there’s no way you end up in level 6 without being extremely dangerous and powerful) they need to gain a few more crew members or go through some further training to gain success in the end.
We don't need a million crew members. 10 is enough in my opinion. We haven't had the OG straw hats together and interacting in like 10 years. I want to focus on them.

I think that last line by Hiyori was the rakugoka embellishing the story and she never said that. It feels rather appropriate that we entered Wano when it was full of anti-Kozuki propaganda and now the stories are starting to do the opposite. Information always favoring the winners is a huge theme in One Piece, after all.
I also don't think she actually said that, since it was a rakugoka play, and I'm curious what she actually said in that instance. Hopefully it's not as hateful as what the playwrights portrayed here
I kept telling people that Yamato might not join due to Luffy never acknowledging her request to join. Though he did say Yamato could join if she ever decided to be a pirate.
Not gonna lie. I hated this chapter with a burning passion. I tried not to be too disappointed about Yamato not joining but I despise obvious fakeouts and after EVERYTHING Yamato said about joining the crew he just changes his mind off screen? Yeah, I call BS.
And Hiyori's speech at the end was even worse. Even if it is true that the original Japanese text wasn't quite so....genocide-y, the fact that she uses the name of the clan still implies that she thinks the same applies to any other members who might still be hiding. At the bare minimum it confirms that the injustice of the persecution will never be addressed in the story and that Wano has learned NOTHING about the downside of having a culture so obsessed with "honor" that even random citizens will take it upon themselves to slaughter innocent actors on-stage in the name of it.
Wano ended on a real low-point for me and now I can't stop thinking about every other thing in this arc I hated. There were way too many characters once again (we only needed maybe 5 scabbards, not 9). Hiyori and her story as Komurasaki felt wasted. I'm still not over how stupid the retcon of the Gomu-Gomu no Mi is and Kaido never got a backstory worth a damn so he ended up being just a cool wall for Luffy to get past. We got some interesting hints about him like the fact that he seemed to value an honorable death which I thought was gonna turn into a parallel with the samurais of Wano, but no.
Honestly a bit upset at Oda.

It's really hard not to be upset when everything he showed with Yamato has her outright saying she's joining and displayed her fighting abilities to show how useful she would be and then at the last second decides Yamato isn't joining. I'm starting to think Oda has finally gotten sick of writing One Piece and is trying to sprint to the end.

Definitely NOT a boss move on that line that kurozumi was born to burn shouldve just said something like orochi that was a very big reversal of the entire shows theme. Plus it wasnt just hiyori who said that it was eveyone in that class or auditorium. THEY ALL SCREAMED IT TOGETHER. Which made it even more fuc@$ed up.
Oda made it look like Yamato will join at the end of 1056 just to say "LOL NOPE" in the next one. Kind of a dick move ngl. lol
One of the best moments is obviously Momo telling Kaido that he's going to be Shogun when Kaido tells him not to call himself Kozuki Momonosuke
Wano was the first arc I was able to read week to week after catching up. It's really bittersweet that it's over, but I'm glad I was here for the journey!

@@yuidesu5625 Ehh idk if we can definitively say that she's quite that strong. For one, I highly doubt Kaido was trying to seriously hurt/kill her. If he actually hated Yamato, he would've just offed her. Zoro tanked what we can assume is the most powerful attack we've ever seen in One Piece (Big Mom/Kaido combo attack).
Then he continued to fight with Big Mom and Kaido after that, and right after went on to fight the 2nd strongest member of the Beast Pirates, King (who is probably at least as strong as Katakuri who was the main opponent of Luffy).
Yamato is definitely super strong (at the very least she's roughly on par with Zoro/Sanji/Jinbe if nothing else), but she just doesn't have enough feats to properly judge her strength and compare it to someone we've seen fight numerous opponents.
Also, Yamato didn't do any lasting damage to Kaido. Zoro gave him a new scar and reminded him of Oden who could clash with characters like Whitebeard and Roger and was the one person Kaido respected from all of Wano prior to the Onigashima Raid happening.
My favorite part is ODEN vs KAIDO that was epic , and then the scene with ODEN and the scabbards getting boiled and he rescues them and says "ODEN WAS MEANT YO BE BOILED" that was so effing EPIC it made him one of my favorite characters in the whole show
Despite the issues that Wano has, I still really enjoyed this arc overall. Some of my favorite moments (in no particular order) were

The wano arc disappointed me very much tbh this was hyped up for years and for what a bunch of off screen and mediocre fights and like a few good moments and the ending just left a bad taste in my mouth

This arc only took 4 years, and 1 month so we might arrive to the end of this story before year 2050. Too bad about the Yamato fate, but it's similar to all Princess fates in One Piece story.
So what we will get next?
I honestly consider Wano to be a Saga, like Water 7, with the mainland story in Wano being its own arc and the Onigashima battle being its own arc as well (like Enies Lobby). Post Onigashima is also technically a small arc.
See yamato staying isnt the same as the princess fates, that designation goes to momo, who wants to go but wont because of shogun duties, not making the mistake his father did.
Yamato not joining was because she wants to see more of the world, but not the world world, just wano, which throws away the whole long arc about her finally getting away from wano and seeing the WHOLE world as a free person not shackled by their father.
That's too much. End of one piece will be 2030. With oda slow pacing.
So many weird, unsatisfying, unexplained conclusions/resolutions. Why all of a sudden does Yamato not join the Straw Hats (after an entire arc of buildup to her joining)? What happened/where are the Big Mom pirates? Perospero? Where’s Marco? Shanks and Ryokugyu (what was even the point of them showing up in Wano)? Where’d they go? And also Carrot. Idk if it was a cop out for her to not join the Straw Hats (which is disappointing itself) but I think there could’ve been a better reason for it instead of “Ruling over Zou” since I can think of MANY other Minks better suited for that role. Wanda, prime example. Makes more sense to me personally that Carrot would carry on Pedro’s will in helping the Straw Hats by joining, like Pedro wanted to join Roger. I was just disappointed with quite a bit in this chapter than I have with probably any other chapter. It’s not a big deal, I can move past it easily, as a longtime fan. Just a bummer… so far..
I agree, there are too many loose ends. And these characters are celebrating too damn early. What if kaido and big mom just flew out of the volcano. And then the battle continues until someone is dead.....
I hope that many things will be addresed over time in following chapters although some of them dont seem urgent.
I mean do we really need to know where Marco is right now when the probable course of action for him is to go back to WBs childhood island. (Tho it would have been nice a farewell scene with him and the gang)
I like to think that both Jack and Perospero are dead, cause their purpose on story is fulfilled but anything else from them I dont think is necessary. For the big mom pirates I hope we will be shown what happened to them and their reaction to Big Moms defeat and abscence (or death).
For Shanks and Ryokugyu is clear that the former went to the island where Barto burned down his flag and that the latter just went back to Marine HQ.
For Carrot, I would love to see her joining and following Pedro's will, and the fact Yamato is not becoming a nakama and that it wasnt really confirmed that Carrot accepted to be the Queen of Zou, it opens the possibility of her joining, but everything can happen.

@@spideyv5750 Yeah, idk why I mentioned Perospero. I could care less what happens to him lol. But with Shanks and Ryokugyu, I just wanna know why they were in Wano at all. Shanks obviously to stop Ryo, like Marineford, but then that begs the question of why on earth Ryo was there to begin with? The only thing I can think of is One Piece being in a rush now and Ryo needed to be revealed. Which is fine. I just think it was lame given that the previous Admiral’s were revealed then we saw them for an entire arc, not just a few chapters ending with pants wetting.
The future chapters I know I’ll enjoy, just some odd stuff in this one. I assume Oda will fit it all in a nice bow like he has many times before lol.

I think there is a chance, Oda would not give Carrot an offscreen goodbye, and nothing was foreshadowing her leading Zou. She clearly did not want to and her final word "Pedro..." clearly shows that Pedro's Will still weighs on her mind.
She cannot carry out his Inherited Will if she follows Perospero's advice to go home and nibble grass.
My favorite moment was Law & Robin exploring underground Wano.
One of my favorite moment, aside form the reveal of the Nika DF (both luffy's smile and him posing in front of the moon), is when robin tells black maria how much she is glad that Sanji called for her help.
That was a good moment, not on Sanji's part...Sanji's gimmick is very stupid...but great for Robin no doubt. Honestly if this wasn't a shonen Robin would be the MVP of every arc.

When I saw the Orochi part of the chapter it was actually my very first thought that I can't wait for your review if only to get the Orochi voice a last time. 😆 Not sure if that or the Momo scenes were the most quintessential flashback of the chapter to summarize the Wano experience.
