Youre only 40!?
My personal opinion are that the 997 will age much more gracefully than the 991 and will be much more desirable as time passes us by. The 991 is a great car, the electronic steering shortcomings are largely overblown, but the footprint is just too large. I have a 992 which is similar in size and a 997, the 992 looks like it can eat the 997 in terms of size. The 997 is slightly lighter and not really noticeable, but what is noticeable again is the size. 997 is much more predictable with traction control off, and much more fun and rewarding when you catch the apex. I think in 15 years, people will be flocking to the 997 as the last pure 911 much like how they’ve flocked to the 993 despite all its flaws. That being said, I drive my 997 too much for it to be of any value by then, I bought it with 55k miles and it’s close to 60k already after only a few months.
997 all the way. It’s the last of the drivers Porsche especially with a manual gearbox. 👍👍👍
The 991 introduced the electric steering which equates to boring! The 997 truly is the last sports car of the 911. The 997 especially the. 2 will sky rocket in price in the near future.
Why the.2 not the .1
@@keatinhales6524 The .2 has the DFI bullet proof engine. It also has refresh interior and some suspension upgrades.
@@713vinh More reliable, yes. No IMS, although the larger internal bearing in the 2006 and later . 1 cars is very rare to fail. But bullet proof? No. There are increasing reports of bore scoring in the . 2 cars. Less so far because they are younger and there are far fewer built (GFC effect). Approx 106000 .1 vs 34000 .2 cars built (2, S, 4, 4S).But it does occur.
997.2 size and reliably all the way
997.1 is reliable also, just need to make you get the RMS/IMS sortrd
Glad you chose the 997. Love my C2S and I’m a lot older than you😁
Time to stop this utter rubbish...
Makes for interesting reading on ........Bavarian Dominator @ Review Centre
997 looks so much better too.
Good choice! I had my 997 4S for over 10 years and still enjoys the look and drive. The Macan S is great for my DD, shopping and hockey gears.
It's a very personal choice, but I would say this:
Swap that frankly rubbish steering wheel in that 991 for a Sports steering wheel with paddles, slap on the sports Chrono option which gives you the sports plus button, turn on the sports exhaust and put it on a racetrack with PDK in manual. Then tell me the 991 isn't a sports car. Trust me, the 991 C2S is pedigree on a racetrack. It definitely gets your heart racing. It's too quick for the road though, and it's geared long, which is why it doesn't always get your heart racing on the road like the 997. With the 991, you're way above the speed limit at top RPM in 2nd gear. And that is a problem, unless you live on the Isle of Man or in Germany.
I've had the 997.2 and now the 991.1 for almost 3 years. For me, the 991 a better car all round. Lower center of gravity, more grip, as you say, quicker, plenty of power, plenty of noise and looks much better, especially from the rear. I never liked the rear end on my 997.2. The 997.1 looks slightly better, but still very dated.
997.1 rear end looks classic, not dated. It harkens the squarer look of the air-cooled 911s and will continue to age well. The 991 rear looks modern, but will age gracefully for its clean look. The 997.2 does look stuck in the middle though.
I much prefer the look of the 997.2. Front and rear.
Very good and imaginative perspectives. The diehard 997 for its rawness and unmistakable sports car characteristics. Bravo, Thanks!
Great video. Personally, 996.1 with the GT1 lights is the greatest looking 911, and is great fun to drive. I’ve had the pleasure of owning 996.2, 997.1 and 991.1 and most fun to drive, in order, are 996, 997 and the 991. But, the 991with PDK is a 395 HP beast. You cannot go wrong with any of them.
Glad other people like 996’s
I fell the same! I like 991 and I´d never say NO to one :D but boy I prefer 997 any day
Which is best?
The 996🤣
Thanks, great vid . Taught me a lot
It's the 997 all day long for me. I'd love a 997 GT3 or a 997.1 turbo.
996 all the way, just love the look. To eich their own 😎
Unfortunately the 996 is the only tacky 911 ever made.
@@Earl_Wallace ..hahahaha true.
Have the best of both worlds and get a 2nd Gen 997 (997.2) None of the engine worries and all of the dynamics of the smaller car whilst getting a mildly updated interior.
997 feels like no other car!
But what if it's like 15k more?
Great video. I test drove a 991 c2s with some interest in possibly trading my 997.1 tt and was shocked how much bigger the 991 was and how numb the steering felt. I completely agree with your assessment. Thanks
996 is a true sports car drive
So very true IMO. Can't review it though, as the channel only features his own cars. Billy no mates comes to mind
😂😂😂 Really
How coincidental you posted this today. I was at a Porsche Club Auto-X event today and was noticing the sizable difference between the 997, 991 & 992. On the course the 997s definitely had more room to work with in the tight corners.
For a 911 I always thought I wanted a 991 due to the power figures. But now that I've had some proper driving instruction, I'm more inclined towards the sportier 997. Its hypothetical for now as my 981 Boxster S with a performance spec, is more than enough to handle. I'd love to see you repost this same format with the 991 GTS since the spec will be similar to your 997.
Enjoyed your video also first time subscriber just now also wondering what year is you 997.1 4s?
Great review. Thank you for this. I have similar dilema. Lets see how it ends.
I’m struggling with this exact dilemma. I think you’ve just convinced me that the 991.1 is the way for me to go.
How do you feel now when you compare the 997 to the 991 targa? Does it still lack that sports car feel and excitement and seem muted? Any idea on mpg for them both when daily driving?
Both are GREAT cars,it's a matter of taste.I have a 991.1 and use it daily, for me is my dream car!!!
Great video. Very well presented. I have the M6 2016 competition. But, in damp weather, issues with the rear always sliding. I need a 991. Say Turbo S, if I can afford it. Great cars
Hey Satch, another great vid! What broke on yours when you left it in Germany?
I think it was the shift cable thats snapped 🤔
so happy I just picked up a 997.2 and im curious if it will be the future 993
I prefer the smaller size and taller driving position of the 997. It feels more 911.
991 any day but I prefer my 992 S. I think you prefer the 997 as you sold your 991
We have a cabriolet 997 4S, first generation, but past IMS problem …. Porsche sport exhaust… but automatic transmission…. And steering wheel on the left side as it should be….Like our kids say…I am hold but I am happy 😀
The 997.1 997.2 were the last of the 911's that felt like a true sports car and that is missed.
991 is a GT car- all prim and proper. 997 is the dogs bollocks.
As you allude to Satch I suspect the conclusion would be entirely different when comparing the 997 to a GT car, As I’ve mentioned previously, I traded my 997 for a 991.1 GTS last year and can honestly say it really is the the best thing I ever did. Certainly the GTS will you back the ‘Sportscar’ feel you miss in the base 991 Carrera/Carrera S. I absolutely love it and every time I get into it, it’s a special occasion.
Looking forward to more GTS content and the inevitable 997 v 991 GTS Targa comparison. 👍
I have had a 997 C4S for over 12 years. It still excites me every time I drive it. Your 0-60 mph of 5.3 seconds seems a bit off for the 997 S. The 3.8 Liter 997.1 Carrera S or C4S with 355 hp have a best 0-60 mph of between 3.9 and 4.1 seconds in american magazine testing.
Always love explaining to people how come the wheels look like they are going backwards sometimes in films.
Sadly, that kinda sums up this channel.
Can you explain, I have no idea.
My take is -- Same owner cars featured week in, week out. BNM.
I’ve had both 991.1 tts
And 997 4S
I loved both but something special bout my 4S
I feel like if his C2S had Sports Chrono and PASM with the Sports Seats....I also have an aftermarket Sports exhaust, all those changes make a big difference to the grunt of your car.
Hey there, I’m looking to get a Porsche 911 next year and was wondering if you have any tips where best to look. I see quite a few on auto trader etc but always concerned about quality. Is there is any good specific used Porsche dealers that are worth a try? I’m based on the south coast uk. Many thanks and appreciate any tips.
Local Porsche clubs
Northway Porsche. Reading. Ray is a mechanic firstly then a car salesman.
Hi Satch, Im lovin your 997.1 C4S, stance is perfect, has it been lowered, and if so is it on coilovers or springs, type and drop please.
I have the same model and the tyre to arch gap makes it look like an off roader. Help needed.
Prefer my 991.1 naturally aspirated and Racing Yellow in color 👍
I am 43 and daily drive an 07 997 Cabrio 6 spd in south Florida
Is the steering (and brakes) noticeably lighter on the 991 than the 997?
Steering isn't as "active" in your hands on the 991. However I've never had a problem placing the nose into a corner. Good feedback but definitely not as analogue as the 997.
As for the brakes, on the the 991 S models, the brakes are simply sublime!
@@Rynardts thanks
If you don’t have Power Steering Plus option on 991, the steering is not lighter than 997. Actually, it doesn’t feel any less accurate than 997 and feels analogue as much as 997.
Definitely 997 perfect spec
Something you gloss over is the 997 you are comparing is a base Carrera, whereas the 991.1 is the S version. The HP jump from the 997.2 to the 991.1 is only 10 (or 15, if you go with official numbers) between the older and newer models in the S version, and I believe 5 HP in the base (345 to 350). At least that's what I've read for cars brought to the States (not sure about the UK).
I don't really love cars that feel big, bulky and heavy. Is there a difference in that respect? Even a 981 feels pretty big and wide on country roads to me.
Only Porsche nuts are going to say all this stuff.
@@jim199959 Well i'm used to driving very compact cars so most things feel big to me.
Take a 991.1 GTS its the best for all !
Great video, Satch! 997 all the way!
Sound subjective - but that 997 sounds right
The 991 looks like a 2 door Panamera.
Owner of the 991 and lust over a 997, 993 and of course the car of my childhood a 3.2 carrera. Which one should you buy? Well as an addict of porsche’s my issue is that my answer is all of them! Actually i would say 2 of each. The 1st set to drive and enjoy, with 2nd set to admire in your garage all pristine like a bit of art. All 911 generations offer something a little different which makes picking a generation so hard. All in my opinion of course - i would take any generation and be happy - porsche simply know how to make a great car!
Had both versions in c2s. Prefer the refinement of the 991. It’s subtle. But works better on our s!?t roads. And the cabin is better. Prefer the arse on the 991
Manual all the way so 997.1 it is.
im 40 now haha , know what cha mean, happened to me 17 yrs ago....WTF!!!!
I test drove them both in 2012 and wound up ordering a 2013 Porsche 991 Carrera S because their is NO comparison. The 997 is a joke compared to the 991 in every way, shape and form.
The 991 has a plastic interior where as the 997.2 is fully leather. Better better quality I think. Made by Porsche not VW.
having a nice lumch ith ya wife or whatever ........ epic 🙂
Your 0-60 times off the997 does it 4.6 seconds
.1. He’s correct.
@@djones1304 if you say so 🤡🤡🤡🤡
@@milesowen1348 unless I am mistaken. If you
Look at interior. It’s a 997.1.
I do say so 🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔
Great review. Thank you for this. I have similar dilema. Lets see how it ends.
