How Not to Ride a 300km Gravel Challenge - The Jeroboam 300

- At first glance, the Jeroboam 300, a new gravel race in the north of Italy, looks like the ideal weekend adventure - wine, sun, good views and a largely off-road 300km loop that circumnavigates Lago d’Iseo in Erbusco. This is how BikeRadar's #radventurers, Reuben and Jack fared when they took to the start line.
Vids like this are simply awesome! The experience you shared with us is priceless. Way to go lads!
Couldn't agree more. Would love to see more like this.
The amount of portrait orientation footage is genuinely distressing.
Agreed. Jack was filming for Facebook Live casts during the ride, and insists that you have to shoot portrait for that on his phone. We're not sure we believe him. Rest assured, Reuben and the rest of the video team have made their displeasure known to him.
Don't worry, I was thoroughly, thoroughly chastised upon my return to the office for this most heinous of crimes.
I think the portrait snaps make the adventures feel more authentic because it captures the spontaneous moments
oh no it started hailing?
are you two ok???
Jesus christ that's why you don't take road bikes with you! put on a jacket and googles ride at night and there you have a perfect description of how to ride all year round in Northern Norway... fucking hail, you'd be calling a taxi to throw your trash while I'd be cycling to work in the snowstorm before the plow was awake.
I get the impression that there was not much in the way of organization of the race. How on earth could they plan the route across that downhill go kart race?
Attention! !! Contains vertical filming.
This video was very british.
Chris agreed a British Expeditionary Team looks totally epic. I agree though you did it the best way.
These two have great chemistry together. Super fun to watch
Loved this. Very Harold and Kumar -esque in the way that nothing went according to plan, 2 chilled out guys having a laugh and ending up at the Golden Arches. Need more!
These 2 are brilliant together :D
Definitely. Wouldn't want to be stuck in a lift with them though.
They arent mtbers so the chance of metting them in a lift i quite small i guess.
+Claudio Sonoda Ok
UA-cam User sorry, was my son
Thomas Linddal 🙏👏👏👏
You two are hilarious! Loved the video. Can't wait for more.
A great watch. More vids like this........
"Kodak Moment"... lol!
As time goes on, fewer and fewer will remember where that reference came from.
Crap, I am from Chile, grown in the 90's...and got it too. So true! :)
The jack-Ruben bromance is the best thing about this channel
Even a year on I still luv this video 📹 "find a vet cos those swans are sick" 🤣
And parkour every day 😂
You both work so well together and jack always cracks me up 😁👍
I like how you call it a "race" and then stop after 30 seconds in search of shelter.......I'm only at five minutes, I wonder if I will see any other "racers". lol
I suspect you now understand :L
Things get real homoerotic real quick when you guys run into trouble
“we were expecting gravel but it ended up being mostly road riding”... Like I said many times, "GRAVEL" as a category of bike is fake. There is just not enough of this terrain for most people to actually justify an extra discipline of bikes. Unless of course, you already have a road, tt, hardtail, XC fully, down country, trail, enduro, DH, touring, and cx bike and have money to burn.
Not enough lube and running too much tyre pressure but didn't let any air out. These are my sort of mistakes. Thought more experienced riders would avoid these. Good to watch though.
Awesome video!
Haha I just googled DFL. You guys should do a travel blog cycling show pure gold 😂
Which bike is better 3T vs the Moots
Sounds a great adventure
"call a vet because thoes swans are sick" 😂😂
Great video! I would love to know what camera strap he was using to keep the camera on his back.
Hey Michiel, that's a Mettle Speed Strap.
@@reubenbakker-dyos8561 Thank you so much for your speedy reply! I really enjoy your UA-cam channel.
Forget about your time, nobody will care or remember. Just enjoy the ride.
2 zip ties and 1ft of duct tape. Never leave home without them! 😁Great video.
Well done guys, great piece.
Nothing is more fun the night riding but when you don't really know where you really are, it can be a bit weird. With modern LED headlamps, they have become so reliable you can afford to do such wacky things in safety. I've been training for the Camino de Santiago and I like to do parts of the trail at night, adds an element.
Comedy with a bit of cycling🤣🤣🤣
Great ride lads, and the best cycle video show on youtube, be rude to ride that route at night and miss what Mother Nature has on show ,,, wise choice take care Shane uk 🇬🇧
It should have occurred to you guys when the race was up the alps, and loaded with cargo, that a sub compact gearing would have made more sense than a compact.
Great video guys! I live in that area and Passo Crocedomini is one of my favourite climb (also one of the toughest I've done)
Just adding the the conversation here, both of you guys are awesome together and this has become my favorite episode on bikeradar. Do more!
this was brilliantly fun to watch as a good road trip movie. Wouldn't mind an extended version.
Hahaha you guys are brilliant......the reason I came back to this channel.
Thanks for your comment! We're hoping for many more fun adventures over the next year so stay tuned!
@bikeradar - Any chance (or ETA) on a review of BTwins new gravel bike?
So backpacking you usually camp out you guys got an air bnb thats not backpacking really is it?
Excellent video! Made me smile endlessly. Argh, I envy you guys!
We need such a bicycle race and culture and most importantly bike trail more!!
Very fair review of the bikes and the Jeroboam 300. Nice one
Nice trip. But ever heard of vertical video syndrome :)
thank you for the video , its good to know your experience from the race .
Cute couple. Shame half of it was filmed on a 3210 ;)
I miss Reuben.
At 2:48 I though it was some mysterious intro to some club music 👀
puncture paranoia was rife. ok favourite quote lol
awesome video. you guys looked like you had a blast
I'm very curious about their equipment, bike, seat post, clothes, the "bag" behind the saddle, etc.
dont know what they used - but as far as saddlebags go, I can recommend the ortlieb seatpack, it's really good.
Saludos desde Colombia great work
Outstanding work, gents.
How is that camera strapped at 4:05 ?
did you strava it?? i wanna see!
how could BSA BB creak?
Out of interest what were you filming this on? And of that kit what worked best / worst?
Everything that wasn't the Facebook live footage was shot with a GoPro HERO5 Black.
Great video guys!
@Reuben Bakker-Dyos Was your saddle a Specialized Power? Did you figure out how the nose came apart from the rails?
Yep, Specialized Power Pro. We couldn't figure it out after spending about 20 minutes of trying various angles to get the rails back in. The way it popped out still doesn't make sense to us.
Thanks! Was considering getting one, maybe the Comp version, but this certainly gives me pause for concern. Always the chance it was just a fluke or a freak occurrence, I guess.
Klass, super!
Gotta throw that 40 on there
great way to man up,
very noisy bicycles 3:07
Real Snow! Jesus!
lol funny dudes
Well done lads
только шоссейник, только хардкор.
Nick Frost doppellganger.
Question: is your frame bag waterproof? If so, which one is it? Thanks!
Which bag are you referring to? Jack had some Topeak bags with a Topo Design handlebar bag while I had a Porcelain Rocket seat bag with Yanco Bags handlebar and stem bags. All are waterproof.
Awesome, thanks for the info! Awesome video, thinking about riding the race next year!
like
Great ride! What camera strap were you guys using?
maybe a mettle strap?
i rather see the night time decent then u guys flirting in a hotel
We were actually flirting in an AirBnB, but never mind
Looking good Jack !!
Cheers Stuart! Having a great time down here. Hope the Orange and gravel bike are treating you well - Will keeps me up to date with your adventures.
Kinesis is fantastic, broke up the Orange and built a Hard tail with the parts and a Lauf fork up the front excellent. Have fun mate cheers
Does cycling increase height by raising it's seat? plz tell me!!!
STOP FILMING IN PORTRAIT, MOVIES=PORTRAIT else screens wouldn't be made in landscape, so annoying!
Phone screens are portrait :)
Turn it, now it's landscape, don't try to be smart, it isn't working! U can't turn your pc/tv-screen!
I won't try to be smart if you won't be so rude.
If it's so bloody annoying don't watch it and move on to something else....
