Well way back in the late 60s and 70s, FM Rock Radio was playing full albums and analysing them like paintings which you'd find in the national gallery. Sadly they only played the horrible Prog Rock snobs like Yes and Emerson, Lake and Palmer, along with the corporate American rock acts like Kansas, Boston, and Styx. While the format I'm talking about is a very irritating, sucky, and pretentious radio format, people loved it, and that's how Zeppelin came to be huge in America
The story about Plant singing Love Me to the King is awesome. The best part is that when they were living the place Elvis yelled to Robert and when he turned around, Elvis started to sing, TREAT ME LIKE A FOOOOOOl.....
Adi Iqbal Beck gave it to him, then jimmy painted it, then jimmy left it with a friend who painted it without telling jimmy thinking he’d like it better lol

Interesting fact number eleven. Led Zeppelin turned down an opportunity to perform at Woodstock. And instead, played at Convention Hall in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
I've been a lifelong Zeppelin fan and not only were these actually interesting, there were some I didn't know. Good job. I remember reading when I was a kid that when Page first heard Plant sing, he wondered if he was some kind of an asshole (he may have said hard to work with) or else why hadn't anyone else snatched him up for lead singer.
I think Plant being Page's third choice might be a little misleading. From everything I've ever read about it, Page approached Steve Marriott and and Terry Reid before he knew Plant. This video makes it sound as though Page knew about Plant and still preferred someone else. I don't think that's the case. Supposedly, Terry Reid was the person who told Page about Plant and recommended him.
jeb909 True. Once Page saw Plant he wanted him 100% - same with Bonham after Plants recommendation. It’s crazy to think if Steve said yes, Zeppelin wouldn’t of had either of them.
There is a lot of truth to that, but surprisingly a lot of people in rock didn't think much of Plant at the beginning. There is some talk that Zeppelin was certain they wanted Bonham, but weren't quite as sure about Plant. While his singing style became common after their success, at this early time it was considered unusual.
I read this mammoth book on Jimmy Page 'No Quarter' Terry Reid only turned him down because he just signed a record deal and he was the one who recommended he go and check out Robert Plant.

I had hoped to learn something new by watching this video & I actually did. I never heard the one where Keith Moon was the one who named the band. Actually he only came up with the concept which lead to the name. As far as Hendrix not liking them because they used older, & usually black, musicians music, I don't know if I buy it. First of all, many of the songs they took liberties with were themselves written & performed by someone else, in some cases multiple times and multiple persons. Back in the days of Ledbelly it was very common to perform other people's music. A few examples off the top of my head: You Shook Me I Can't Quit You Baby You Need Love Bron-Y-Aur Stomp All 4 of these songs were performed by multiple artists but I guess when a group of white dudes make more money from the song than all of the previous artists prior you have to sew for money. If Jimmie didn't like them for doing something many people prior had done then I think it'd have to be because they're white.
So strange.. I never really listen to Zeppelin, but the other day I watched this cool Disney movie about wizard stuff, forgot what it was called but it was a cute movie. But for some reason it made me want to bust out my Zeppelin record that I rarely touch. So I put it on and man it hit the spot! And now I'm seeing Zeppelin everywhere. Witchcraft maybe??
How Zeppelin began. Following Beck's departure in October 1966, the Yardbirds, tired from constant touring and recording, began to wind down. Page wanted to form a supergroup with him and Beck on guitars, the Who’s Keith Moon on drums and John Entwistle on bass. Vocalists Steve Winwood and Steve Marriott were also considered for the project. The group never formed, although Page, Beck, and Moon did record a song together in 1966, "Beck’s Bolero", in a session that also included bassist-keyboardist John Paul Jones. This was the beginning of Led Zeppelin
Zeppelin stole less than most. They never stole music, only always a handful of lyrics from the blues, which everyone did. They were sued for Whole Lotta Love, which shares 6 WORDS with Willie Dixon's song. Dazed and Confused only shares the title words with Jake Holmes' song. Not a single verse or musical passage. Just 3 words. The only thing they were rightfully sued for was The Lemon Song, which the band called The Killing Floor, but Atlantic actually changed the name shortly before the pressing. They never had any intention of ripping it off, the whole song is very clearly an obvious cover of a well known song at the time. When they played The Lemon Song, they always introduced it as The Killing Floor, and said it was a Howlin Wolf song.
For one thing, “Dazed And Confused” uses the EXACT same riff, only it’s strummed on an acoustic using octaves but it’s still the same riff. It even has the same open harmonics at the beginning, just without the wah-wah pedal. Page stole TONS of music.
@@KevyNova No, it isn't the exact same riff. It doesn't descent chromatically from G to E before starting the run down D. You're talking out of your ass. It's a similar riff. And I JUST explained Killing Floor to you, moron. Can you read? It was intended to be a by-the-books cover, they always introduced it as a Howlin Wolf song when playing live and called it KILLING FLOOR. Their label, Atlantic records, changed the name at the last minute so that they wouldn't have to credit Wolf. You said he stole TONS of music and then just gave 2 examples that count for nothing. Keep trying, idiot. I guarantee you don't know more about this than I do. In fact, you've already proven you don't.
@@KevyNova Why weren't the Yardbirds sued for Dazed and confused then? They called it " I'm confused" It was a money grab because Zeppelin were huge compared to the Yardbirds. Greedy people is the problem.
What would be cool, is if you did what you did with facts about Beatles albums, but with other bands albums like Pink Floyd’s, Led Zeppelin’s, or maybe Nirvana’s. Just a suggestion. 5:10 I'd always heard that Jimi Hendrix played left handed on a right handed guitar. I thought he played with the strings configured for a right handed guitar, but here he's playing a right handed guitar strung as a left handed guitar. Interesting. Funny how the internet clears up things you hear in middle school and just believe for the next 20 years.
Always restrung the guitar but he could playback upside down without restringig . There's a video of him backstage AT MSG with the Stones where he just flips Keith's guitar over like Albert king did
It reminds me of the story about Hank Aaron showing up to his first professional batting practice. The hitting coaches noticed he batted right handed with his left hand over his right hand. They had him switch it and he hit a couple home runs and a couple line drives off the fence in his first practice game
He also tried out and rather Liked and recorded over an albums worth of stuff with ''Screaming Lord Sutch''. Not sure you'll know him so I'll just let you google him. With Mitch Mitchell on Drums on occasion, Bonham of course. And Noel Redding occasionally on Bass. I think the recordings I have were just rehearshals / auditions for what was to become the power House that was Led Zeppelin.
Please do facts on the Beatles solo career albums (i.e. George's Cloud 9), as well as Past Masters, Anthology, Red and Blue Albums, etc. Those would be interesting.
Wasn't John Bonham playing in Robert Plant's band when Jimmy discovered Plant? Incredible luck x2! So many success stories involve not just talent and hard work (the music world is full of those people, mostly obscure), but incredible LUCK in stumbling across the right people (Peter Grant as well).
No, Bonzo wasn't in the same band as Robert when asked to join Zep, although they had been in the same band before. At the time, Bonzo was playing with Tim Rose.
They were in a band together just a little earlier on. They were called 'Band Of Joy'. There is handful of songs on UA-cam with their music, which I felt was pretty dang good.
Big Hendrix fan here and I call bullshit about Carmine Appices statement. I have never heard Or read about Hendrix disliking Zeppelin. Eric Barret,Hendrix roadie, has said he liked Zeppelin. Hendrix favourite drummer was Mitchell. Only with Band Of Gypsys did he change
Do you remember the very first time you heard Zepplin?I do.I was walking up the street in 1969 and someone pulled up to a red light with their windows down..Out from that car came what I thought sounded like heaven..I just couldn’t believe it. First of all, many of the songs they took liberties with were themselves written & performed by someone else, in some cases multiple times and multiple persons. Back in the days of Ledbelly it was very common to perform other people's music. A few examples off the top of my head:
You Shook Me
I Can't Quit You Baby
You Need Love
Bron-Y-Aur Stomp
All 4 of these songs were performed by multiple artists but I guess when a group of white dudes make more money from the song than all of the previous artists prior you have to sew for money.
If Jimmie didn't like them for doing something many people prior had done then I think it'd have to be because they're white.
I agree especially on your last sentence. And, Hendricks didn't even come close to having the success Led Zeppelin had so for me its a non-issue.
You should do a video on ELO. I know you did one on Jeff Lynne, but one on specifically ELO would be cool.
When is your new album coming out? I've been waiting ever since your first one came out and I'm so exited!
Wait, now your using my plug AND covering my favorite band? (Beatles are easily my wife’s favorite) Too much! Keep up the awesome work my friend!
Stairway is the most played rock song on radio, if it has been released as a single it almost would have gone to number one.
The video is amazing as always, can you please work on a Pink Floyd one?
Oh boy, do I need to give examples of music that they stole? There are plenty of them.
For one thing, “Dazed And Confused” uses the EXACT same riff, only it’s strummed on an acoustic using octaves but it’s still the same riff. It even has the same open harmonics at the beginning, just without the wah-wah pedal. Page stole TONS of music.
“Killing Floor” also uses the exact same guitar riffs. Totally stolen. Should I go on?
They called it " I'm confused"
It was a money grab because Zeppelin were huge compared to the Yardbirds. Greedy people is the problem.
Funniest thing ever, just imagine the album covers!😂😂🤣🤣
The song at the end of the video "The Girl With the Flaxen Hair"

hahaha...great upload man...laughing with you \m/
Sweet tele on the wall!!!
Awesome!!
911 what your emergency? Please help me, hollyhobs uploaded a non Beatles video.
911: I’m already on the way.
What would be cool, is if you did what you did with facts about Beatles albums, but with other bands albums like Pink Floyd’s, Led Zeppelin’s, or maybe Nirvana’s. Just a suggestion. I absolutely adore these videos with your kind and humble nature, and talking about believed bands such as this one. Take care HollyHobs. ✌️✌️
Led Zeppelin second to none
8:16
I did not know that about Bonham.
Imagine, if he had used Zoloft instead of vodka.
bummer. super bummer!
Did they have many meds for anxiety then? I’m on Zoloft for the same thing, it really does help. I feel for him, definitely.
I love your Beatles videos, but if you wanted to do more Led Zeppelin, I'll be sure to watch just as religiously!
There's a video of him backstage AT MSG with the Stones where he just flips Keith's guitar over like Albert king did
@@davidclaycomb4287 that's even more impressive
It reminds me of the story about Hank Aaron showing up to his first professional batting practice. The hitting coaches noticed he batted right handed with his left hand over his right hand. They had him switch it and he hit a couple home runs and a couple line drives off the fence in his first practice game
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN PLEASE WELCOME.....THE KNOBS!!!!!
Nice video, it's cool you did a non beatles single, next you should do Bob Dylan or pink floyd
ALSO: Keith Moon came up with Led Zeppelin after saying something like ''That''ll go down like a Led Zeppelin''
Aww you got it in. LOL My apologies.
I thought it was John Lennon who Made the name led zeppelin
The group changed their name to Led Zeppelin after being told their opening act for the Stones was going to fly like a lead balloon
I heard the John entwistle said it would go down like a lead balloon and then later Keith moon stated it would go down like a zeppelin
It was actually John Entwistle that said that not Keith Moon
Wow!
Led zepp owned the 70's
Please do facts on the Beatles solo career albums (i.e. George's Cloud 9), as well as Past Masters, Anthology, Red and Blue Albums, etc. Those would be interesting.
Another beautiful video, but I think it’s time to see a video on the Bee Gees 😂
The Starship sounds like a fantasy.
You should do a video on Simon and Garfunkel
Or Heathcliff and Garfield.
Do another Q&A
Do you remember the very first time you heard Zepplin?I do.I was walking up the street in 1969 and someone pulled up to a red light with their windows down..Out from that car came what I thought sounded like heaven..I just couldn’t believe it. I yelled from the curb Who is that? A girl yelled back LED Zepplin...
Could you do video about Rolling Stones - original member keyboardist Bill Stewart kicked out because he didn't "look right"? Very entertaining channel. 👏👏👏👏
Wasn't his name Ian?
jimmy was in Yardbirds
can you do a video about the kinks
Could you please do a video about pink floyd to
The art of making an album is all but extinct.
Have heard any kendrick lamar albums?!
@@SomberCarlo yeah, he does a great job. But the packaging, the graphics, the label inside, talking off the plastic and putting it on the record player, this was all part of the art. I'm not saying the artist are doing a bad job, Im just saying the way music is sold has diminished the overall art form and taken away some really cool things about it.
@@SomberCarlo Kendrick Lamar makes classics!
