@@darthjesus420 Where is the footage then? I've always heard that story, but I've never managed to find it. And yet John kept on asking Ringo to drum on some of his songs after the break up, so there must be something he liked about his drumming.
@@thatmarchingarrow everyone loves ringo, and contributed very creatively with his drumming. I think most people could agree on that. But technically he’s a sloppy drummer, his execution is unpracticed, but what is in his head is intelligent and usually fairly interesting. Hence why they loved his drumming. Plus he could really go to town on some 1-4-5 Rock n roll. John said that about ringo as a obvious joke, ringo was right next to him. I believe it was around 66 when he said that if I’m recalling correctly. And to answer your question, I don’t have a clue where to find the footage , I remember finding it 2 or 3 years ago. I’m sure it’s been scrubbed from the internet by now if no one can find it anymore. Otherwise I don’t know where a myth like that emerges. There’s clearly truth behind it.
@@darthjesus420 As far as I'm aware, it wasn't a Lennon quote at all, but a bit by a comedian in the early 80s (after John's death). I'd have to look into it to give you more details. I know he isn't that great from a technical point of view, he's definitely not Neil Peart or Buddy Rich, but great chops aren't what makes a legendary drummer. Ringo didn't need that because he had the feel, the ideas and the connection with the music to play exactly the right parts. Also, to my ears, his playing isn't sloppy at all, it's just not flashy. All that isn't to discredit people like Buddy Rich or Neil Peart. They are also legendary. But they're legendary not just because they can play fast and complicated stuff. There are quite a few drummers who can do that. What makes them great is something else. Edit: Ok, here's what Mark Lewisohn has to say about it. twitter.com/marklewisohn/status/1039429309797158912?s=20

THANK YOU for this, especially the fake quote about Ringo. I've been shouting the fact the John never said that from the rooftops for years, but the rumor persists.
The truth is boring. Myths are fun. Trying to persuade myth-mongers and conspiracy theorists with something as boring as mere truth is an exercise in futility. You might as well try to convince someone that *your* religious beliefs or political views are *right* ... because *all* they're gonna hear is that you're telling them that *their* beliefs and views are *wrong* !
@@badczech8485 Myths are fun, I agree with you there. Maybe it's just me, but I think that Ringo isn't given the respect as a musician that he deserves. It irks me when people misquote John because it adds to that disrespect.
@@Doc_Holaday Thanks for your reply! I certainly hope that you noticed my sarcasm when I said that the truth is boring and myths are fun! Even when things were contentious between them, John would always reference Paul. Once an interviewer referred to Paul as “Paulie” & John scolded him. IMO it was a combination of hurt feelings and competitiveness. I think John always considered Paul as his greatest competition.
It was Ringo who was asked "are you the best drummer in the world" to which HE replied "im not even the best drummer in the beatles" which is based on his regular usurping on the kit by Paul and the occasional session drummer when Ringo couldn't quite get the beat quick enough.
Comedian Jasper Carrot said Ringo wasn't even the best drummer in the band. No idea how it was ever credited to John seeing as he was 5 years dead or more at the time.
I became a Beatles fan because of the "Paul is Dead" myth. I can't believe that all this was just some joke. -^- But I feel thankful to have people like you to tell me the greatest things that the Beatles did to change people's lives.
Thanks for your sharing your knowledge about the Beatles on UA-cam. The only thing I can give you is that Julian Lennon did draw his friend Lucy in the picture that gave John his song title. Lucy is real and a few years ago Julian was reunited with her when he found out that Lucy was diagnosed with Systematic Lupus. Julian became and still is a spokesman for Lupus Awareness. Unfortunately, this Lucy died a few years ago. After Julian found out that the muse for his drawing that became part Beatles history, he became a vital part of Lupus Awareness.
The chorus of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" is the least trippy part of the song. But you have to admit, the verses have an imagery to them that sounds exactly like a trip.
I really enjoy all your videos on the Fab Four thanks. It does seem that the last few videos have looked a lot brighter visually 👍 Wow a tank top now that takes me back to my school says in the 70s lol. Thanks keep up the good work 😊
I read that the myth about Ringo’s drumming originated from a tv skit with a British comedian. It was later attributed to John because it sounded like something he would say as a joke. Ringo once said he was in a group with 3 frustrated drummers...even funnier when one watches Peter Jackson’s Get Back montage.
I remember the Jack Parr show. Thought they were silly. Talking the next day to my best friend who also saw it. We laughed and said at the same time, But I love them!
Another unconscious influence on John picking the title for "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" might have been the existence of other songs with the L-S-D pattern in the title. Manfred Mann released a song in 1965 titled L.S.D., which means "pounds shillings pence" because they used L for pound and d for pence. The Pretty Things also released a different song with the same title in 1966. In addition, the American psychedelic band The Blues Magoos had an album track titled "Love Seems Doomed" on the album Psychedelic Lollipop, which came out in October 1966.
One thing about John and George. John was always known as the witty one and George the quiet one. The fact is that George was just as witty if not more witty than John. For instance, there was the first meeting between the Beatles and George Martin in 1962. George Martin was showing them the studio and he asked the boys if there was anything that they didn’t like. George Harrison replied “ Well for one thing, I don’t like your tie “. Everyone cracked up laughing, the initial tension was gone and the rest is history.
Plus, remember, Paul was late.( He was taking a bath)“ He’s going to be very late”says George Martin, something to that effect, obviously annoyed. George H.: “Yes, but he’s going to be very clean”.
Yes, George Martin at first thought The Lads were just okay, if unpolished, musically, but their original material was wanting . He said it was their personalities that prompted him to give them a shot. At a royalty rate of one penny per single sold, EMI "had nothing to lose." As things went on, Martin was pleasantly surprised at how the songwriting improved...
I have seen Paul just a few years ago remark "Of course the song was about LSD." And every drug song written by Lennon-McCartney from I am the Walrus to Cold Turkey was written way after Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
I never believed Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds was about LSD, but it is one of the most trippiest song from the group. Also, Paul has admitted to saying Ari go wasn’t the best drummer but it was a joke. I don’t know why it’s thought to be from Lennon

As far as I'm aware, it wasn't a Lennon quote at all, but a bit by a comedian in the early 80s (after John's death).
THAT SWEATER VEST! I need it
Are you sure that you actually *need* it? Or, is it possible that you merely
*want it so bad, it's driving you mad* ???
first of all, LOVE the vest! (very john) also, I just had to say... great video :) this is my favorite channel. It makes me so happy to see these videos
I was attempting to demonstrate the attitude that so many people seem to have these days!
As for disrespecting Ringo, I agree! And I also see and appreciate your point that misquoting John (or anyone else, in my opinion) merely adds to that disrespect!
I think we're both on the same sheet of music, so to speak!
Thanks again for sharing your views!
All the best to you, sir! ✌️&♥️!!!
Even when things were contentious between them, John would always reference Paul. Once an interviewer referred to Paul as “Paulie” & John scolded him. IMO it was a combination of hurt feelings and competitiveness. I think John always considered Paul as his greatest competition.
I love how your so invested into The Beatles
Long hair looks good on you! It goes well in concept.
It was Ringo who was asked "are you the best drummer in the world" to which HE replied
"im not even the best drummer in the beatles" which is based on his regular usurping on the kit by Paul and the occasional session drummer when Ringo couldn't quite get the beat quick enough.
Great content! Also diggin' the Magical Mystery Tour sweater vest :-)
Cool, 'Magical Mystery Tour', Paul McCartney sweater. Love it. (I wonder, whatever happened, to the original sweater?). Now that...is a mystery. Lol.
In the most simple of terms - I just love your videos. They make me smile and feel happy. Thank uuuuuuuuu9uuuuuuuuu
Comedian Jasper Carrot said Ringo wasn't even the best drummer in the band.
No idea how it was ever credited to John seeing as he was 5 years dead or more at the time.
Sorry. 1983 is when he said it. John was 3 years dead.
what a bad joke that comedian told to this world
I became a Beatles fan because of the "Paul is Dead" myth. I can't believe that all this was just some joke. -^-
But I feel thankful to have people like you to tell me the greatest things that the Beatles did to change people's lives.
This video is brilliant, man!
The real acronym for Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds is LITSWD (Lit Swede) because Swedish pancakes are delicious
..again, you made my day...from drummer remark, thru Winged Beatle..till quiet beatle...love you..hope to meet you some time.. I
Love that Magical Mystery Tour outfit! 😁
Sir, you are a prince among men. I love your videos, and serious kudos for not mentioning the killer's name.
The chorus of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" is the least trippy part of the song. But you have to admit, the verses have an imagery to them that sounds exactly like a trip.
Love your content my man, keep it up
Hey TheHollyHobs!! I really enjoyed the video and I'm still waiting on your cover of Carnival Of Light hahah!
I really enjoy all your videos on the Fab Four thanks.
It does seem that the last few videos have looked a lot brighter visually 👍
Wow a tank top now that takes me back to my school says in the 70s lol.
Whaaaat! You’ve got the magical mystery tour vest!??😍
Ello from the Philippines!
Hello from the Cordillera Region of the Philippines!
Love your Magical Mystery Tour vest!
Too bad you can only hit the "Like" button once, your videos are always superb.
4:58 this really tripped me out. This some Mandela effect crap im sure I seen and heard him say that.
The “Ringo isn’t even the best drummer in the Beatles” quote was actually said in 1981 on a BBC show called Radio Active.
What about carnival of light
Love love love ❤️, no I’m not singing. Just love your videos. Passionate, complete, accurate. Keep up the great work. Yeah yeah yeah!
I have seen Paul just a few years ago remark "Of course the song was about LSD." And every drug song written by Lennon-McCartney from I am the Walrus to Cold Turkey was written way after Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
#10 had me chuckling!
I never believed Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds was about LSD, but it is one of the most trippiest song from the group.
Also, Paul has admitted to saying Ari go wasn’t the best drummer but it was a joke. I don’t know why it’s thought to be from Lennon
I spent a lot of time searching album covers for clues.😄
Many of us have. It can be a lot of fun.
