      @@wadeleetorres2585 It was during the Battle of the Binary Stars that she was injured and lost her version 1.0 left optical sensor :) . My theory on Georgieu is that the reason shes "sick" is due to the mirror universe being so distant in the 3000s from the prime as mentioned in an earlier ep. The doc will say "the only way to save her is to send her back to a time when it was closer" so they can return her back to the 23rd century just in time to lead up the Section 31 show.

      She’s happy with the Discovery. That said, maybe a dedicated shuttle. Paris had the Flyer. Why not?
      And with this, she just ranked up there with some of the finest helmsman and pilots I’ve ever seen in Starfleet History alongside Hikaru Sulu, Tom Paris, and Will Riker. Sorry, but Crusher, Ro, Dax, and even Nog were decent - but not at that elite level. The jury is still out on Number One.

      If Detner had the skills of a Tom Parris. He designed the Delta flyer to fill a niche none of the shuttles or Shuttleworth did. I'm not sure how long it would have taken Tom to build it but Janeway put a rush on it because it was needed for a special mission none of the shuttles could handle. That plus Belana was tired of rebuilding wrecked shuttles or shuttlepods. This reminded me of the trench attack run in star wars IV a new hope and the ending was like the finish of a basestar attack on the original Battlestar Galactica. At least these manual controls looked halfway like a yoke not an over grown joystick.

      @@christopherg2347 the comment before you has nothing to do with trolling. These kinds of major genetic adaptations to species traits don't just happen in only 900 years those kind of major changes take much longer. If the antenna were cauterized that could be a explanation but as for the radical facial structure change that we see the same thing even with admiral shukar in the 2200s the 900 year evolutionary change excuse doesn't cut it. Those kinds of traits take thousands sometimes tens of thousands of years to change and develop
      The problem that I have is when shows try to fundamentally change things too radically too soon without any justification just for the sake of changing it up it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
      It's the same thing with the Klingons being redesigned and looking more like they belong in a pirates of the Caribbean movie then Star Trek if you want to do some tweaks and adjustments there's nothing wrong with that but when they fundamentally change something so that it looks like a different species whether they try and retcon is being a specific cast or not it just doesn't work that well.
      If you want to change something up then you first justify the change you don't make the change then try to justify it in hindsight.

    I've long thought that Federation Starships, especially those routinely treading into hostile (or potentially-hostile) territory need some kind of small "fighter-class" ships. I'm not talking shuttles. I'm talking smaller, heavily armed and wickedly maneuverable.
    You'd need at least a couple of those and pilots capable of flying them. Detmer is more of a "fighter pilot" than a helmsman.

Btw, Archer winning over Shra was a very far-fetched outcome, let it be said... Shran was much better trained than him with those weapons, and as a fighter in an overall way. Well, the far-fetched outcomes of fights are far from uncommon in Star Trek...

      This tells that when I referred to the courage and self-confidence of Andorians, I was not based on Thy'lek Shran only, but on what _excatcly_ Andorians are as a species. And they are a warrior species. Andorians are maybe even more warlike than Romulans. I could say they fit somewhere between Klingons and Romulans to this respect (more like Romulans than Klingons, as seemingly almost all Klingons are warriors at some degree). Besides, Andorians have a very enduring "spirit", since they are from an icy planet where climate is very hostile, and, like Shran himself said to Archer, "the desert is difficult, but it is the cold that forges the true willpower" (something like that). Also, their uncommonly gristly bones are very difficult to be broken, making them rather tough opponents in unarmed combat.

      @@parrot998 Eh, I'm of the opinion there's plenty of face-prosthetic peoples out there, and Andorians already looked distinctive without so much in the way of actors' faces. Enterprise got em right. And there's precedent for some darker blue Andorians, mind you, but it's seemingly pretty hard to make those dark blues not look like plastic. @parrot998 2 роки тому +1

      @@OllamhDrab If you mean IRL, you are absolutely incorrect. The humanoid form is only conducive to certain environments, in other words, VERY Earth like environments. And even then the dominant species wouldn't necessarily take that form factor. It could take on an arachnoid/cephalopod/crab form factor, or an avian form. Depends which family is pressured towards the most practically useful brains to achieve sapience first.
      Different environments lead to different evolutionary pressures and thus a vastly different array of probable natural selection.
      For example, hands are a benefit but there are plenty of ways to be creative without them. Humans being the only tool using lifeform on this planet is a complete falsehood. Otters use rocks, some birds use sticks, octopi will use things like jars if they are in between them and food, ants farm and milk aphids, etc. Given enough time and pressure, they could learn to make things just as well as a humanoid.
      Star Trek even recognizes itself how silly the prevelance of humanoid sapients is, hence why TNG went out of it's way to explain it as an ancient civ seeding their genes throughout the galaxy. So more deviance from the humanoid form is good in my book as long as it makes sense...
      The andorians have always seemed a little gastropoda, having those sensative flexable antennae. So touching them up a bit to reflect that makes perfect sense, and I'd personally argue their new prosthetics make them look prettier than humans with that almost silky smooth looking skin, esp since it makes zero sense for them to have sweat pores seeing as they come from a place they'd never need them. (though TBF I also personally think humans are a kinda homely lifeform, so IMO it isn't that hard to improve), whereas the old design they looked too human for how different their anatomy would have to be both to accomodate their antennae, and the planet they came from.

    • @OllamhDrab
      @OllamhDrab 2 роки тому

      @@parrot998 Uh, your claims make no sense cause Andorians actually are in the show mammalian bipeds ...and their homeworld isn't that much different from Earth.... Frankly nothing says their world even was as frigid as portrayed for their whole evolutionary history, and they clearly have underground dwellings and obviously fire.... None of which means they needed to make their faces bumpier or anything to do with gastropods. Star Trek's full of basically humanoid creatures as it is, so they don't really 'have' to make changes except hopefully, to make alien characters seem more alive. THat's hard to do with a lot of plastic.

    *Book's ship takes 3 hits after Detmer says that the shields are at 80%* "Shields at 10%" *Book's ship then immediately proceeds to eat 50+ hits and not only do the shields not go down, but they don't even get penetrated at all.* (Even Discovery's 32nd century shields suffered some small amount of damage bleed-through with every hit sustained... the sparks, explosions, crew getting thrown around a little etc.)

      The Mirror Defiant did similar maneuvers on a Mirror Negh’var class heavy cruiser. It is possible, especially with a small maneuvering ship going so close bigger ships can’t target them. So it is possible.

    What the heck did they do to the look of the andorians?
    The ones from star trek Enterprise had some problems (but not many especially compared to previous st series) but they looked like actual beings even though you knew it was an actor underneath makeup. You could easily forget it was a human
    This just looks like an actor wearing a really cheap ugly Halloween mask and wig. The face hardly seems to move even when he's surprised by the cat and in a dangerous situation.
    Did they run out of money for hair and makeup and just went to party City?

    This show is so bad. Who writes this? A small ship beating a heavy cruiser. Brook able to see his tiny ship from thousands of miles away. The star wars like battle scene. Saru thinking that the Emerald chain won't see this as an attack by the federation because a crewmember went rogue. All this to give more airtime to background crew/not showing Discovery weapons upgrade. And im not even talking about whats wrong with the rest of the episode.

      1. Star Wars had fighters killing Star Destroyers and moon sized battle stations, Notice she didn't try to take it head on, she used the agility advantage and targeted specific systems.

      What is Discovery's weapons upgrade? At least tell us she has quantum and transphasic torpedoes. You know, just in case the Borg come calling again -- I mean, who knows, but that busted-up Borg Cube in Romulan space during Picard Season One could have been another fluke like Hugh's ship in I, Borg. The rest of the damned Collective could be out there right now, sitting on the edge of the Alpha Quadrant and plotting revenge. And still, for all we know the gods-damned Borg caused the Burn in the first place and they're just waiting to see how the Fed pulls itself back together and improves its tech before they finally come in force. They do farm civilisations for their top tech, as many UA-camrs have surmised.

      @@peter-xw1mu Oh, and the Negh'Var was not? And as cut-throat as the future the Disco currently is in is it's a safe bet that Book's ship will be well armed as well, especially when you remember that he'd worked as a courier for a crime syndicate hauling highly valueable cargo. So no, I still think your point is mute.

    What do think would happen tilly your the most incompetent officer I've ever seen last time I saw this type of behavior was in the episode of deep space 9 the way of the warrior federation betrayed the klingon empire by letting gerrek listen in on a security meeting and the cardasian were ready for them didn't do any good though

  • @999benhonda
    @999benhonda 3 роки тому

    Discovery is great at ruining good moments (her talking to Ryn) by having it make no sense within the story. Granted the ship was on automatic, which makes no sense given they are in a battle but it makes even less sense when she takes the auto pilot off and grabs the WII remotes. It looked silly in Star Trek Insurrection when Riker had the joystick control and it looked worse here. Also, there is a good reason why Gene said ships should look symmetrical...because they just look weird otherwise. And what kind of design is Books ship anyway? Is it a 1 man transport vessel with comfy sleeping quarters on the bridge? Or is it a warship with a bachelor pad behind the bridge? And what powers the ship's individual pieces whenever it separates to do a fast U turn? It may be the dumbest looking ship in all of star trek...and that includes the Oberth class!
