RIP Marie Fredriksson. Roxette, one could argue are the most internationally successful band (apart from ABBA) to come out of Sweden. This was one of their biggest hits, going gold in 1990. For your next one, I recommend "Joyride", which is just a fun groovy song. You can also do "Fading Like a Flower", "Dangerous", or "How Do You Do!". BTW, if you haven't yet, add "Pretty Woman" (which this song is from) to your movie list. It stars Julie Roberts and Richard Gere and is one of the most endearing films of all time.
I was the only Roxette fan in my group, but I never apologized for my fandom! Roxette were an amazing group and their songs still hold up all these years later.
My mom has been a little bit of a prankster throughout my life. She tried to tell somebody that I really like The Rockettes, right in front of me. I didn't realize she was trolling until after I got PISSED OFF and was very vocal about correcting her. "It's ROXETTE, with an X, not..." and I stopped yelling while she was laughing her ass off at me. She knew. For whatever reason, she just HAD to embarrass me in front of somebody else.

How bloody sad that Marie Fredriksson has left us here on Earth at such a young age. But it is wonderful to be able to listen to her wonderful, distinctive voice. God bless Marie x
One thing I loved about 80s music was so many artists from different countries. Roxette was from Sweden, INXS from Australia, Scorpions from Germany, U2 from Ireland, on and on
In "She's got the Look" the guitarist did most of the vocals and they were rockin' harder. Your wife noted that the girl's voice was very powerful in doing backups in "The Look"
Right. From what I understand, Per had taught Marie enough about guitar work to make it look like she could play during the MV. I am not sure she actually played guitar (or was it Bass?). I could be wrong, she may have been a great player, I just never got to see them live in order to know. Obviously she really did play Piano, though, which is difficult enough on its own. RIP to an awesome performer.
This is one of Roxette's biggest songs. It hit number one on the Billboard chart in the summer of 1990. Amber and Jay, please react to the movie "Pretty Woman" which this song is from and is played in snippets in the video. The film is a classic and stars Richard Gere in a great comeback role and Julia Roberts in a huge star making performance. The role of Vivian in "Pretty Woman" is arguably her best performance and she received a lead actress Oscar nomination for it. You both would love this film. I am shocked you guys didn't recognize her in the video.
RIP Marie Fredriksson. Originally titled It Must Have Been Love (Christmas For the Broken Hearted) and released in 1987. The Christmas part was edited out when it was used in the movie Pretty Woman (1990).
Her duo partner, Per Gessle, has kept the band going and has done some great tributes to Marie. Some of the performances in Europe back in the day were phenomenal!
Roxette is one of the bands I've loved forever. My favourite songs of theirs are 'Almost Unreal' and 'Joyride'. Once you're done with spooky season movies, please add Pretty Woman to your movie watchlist. Yes, Jay, it's romantic, but it's romantic, but it's so good! My late dad loved Julia Roberts, and this was his favourite movie of hers (probably his favourite movie period), so it holds a very special place in my heart. I can't even count how often he, my mom (also a fan, also gone) & I watched it together.
It’s the key changes in this song. it’s incredible. Notice the key she starts in and then where she winds up at the end. SO many singers could never do that- If you sing, she’s phenomenal to be able to just take it higher and higher 3 times. And she just gets better and stronger as she goes higher- 10 🌟 s
R.I.P. Marie!💫💫 A wonderful voice, a magic artist is gone way too early!😔 Saw you least at 'night of the proms' in germany 2009!! You and Per performed wonderful!!!🙏🙏
Oh yes! "Back in the Day" when you enjoyed an awesome movie you also bought the soundtrack. That's how I listened to this song over and over. Roxette Ruled the early 90's... RIP Marie, you left us too soon...
Fun fact. This song was originally a christmas song, first rejected ny EMI Germany. But the song was popular at EMI Sweden in 1987 . The movie director Garry Marshall called Per Gessle and asked him to present a song that would fit the movie. Per who was in the middle on a tour panicked and said he didnt have the time, but remembered the christmas song. He said they could change some lyrics and present it. Garry loved it, and said they would re edit the movie because he didnt want any dialog over the song.
I was a teenager when this first played on TV. I was passing the living room fast to go out. I stopped at the front door, walked backwards to the living room, leaned on the door frame, and listened to the end. There was something about the lyrics and that unique voice that captivated me. Everytime I heard it since, it had the same effect as the first time. I have goosebumps hearing it now. RIP Marie Fredriksson. It must've been love from your fans, and I doubt it was ever over. Her other song "Listen To Your Heart" has similar effect.
Wife here.., Totally taking me back to Cheerleading and School Dances with this one.., !! Definitely my personal "Coming of Age" Music...It's so laid back and Beautiful..Love Roxette!!
This song always gives me the chills...so powerfull how Marie sang...even the backing vocals are on point. There is a Frida ( ABBA) solo album where she sings backing vocals...a voice you recognise emediately. May she rest in peace
Roxette is one of my all-time favorites with a hefty playlist. Joyride album is so great. But they had come great songs all around, The Look, Listen to your Heart, Do You Get Excited, Crash Boom Bang...the list continues. Marie went through so much health wise, but came back and toured with Per and the band for years. She passed a few years ago and is still missed.
I was a teen in the 80's and early 90's - and this shit gives me such nostalgia that sometimes, I want to cry. Not a bad cry...an I lived life cry. I know decades of music. The emotion in music is magical.
Being a teenager back in the 90’s I remember this band were always in the charts, literally every song they released was a hit !!! Definitely have their own sound which is hard thing to do in the music industry. Great band.
Such a tragedy to lose her voice! I loved Roxette from the minute I heard them back in the 90's (how's that for dating myself?) and own about everything they ever produced. RIP Marie, you'll forever be missed!
This is actually your third time listening to them. You first did The Look for female Friday - but didn't hear much of her voice. Then you did Listen to Your Heart - which is just a fantastic vocal and one of her best. And this is your third.
I think one of their most beautiful songs is: "Heart Shaped Sea" especially the acoustic version. Per Gessle starts the song and about halfway through, Marie comes in. Such a treat.
Roxette is awesome! And they are so much more than the songs they play in the United States. Their record label, EMI, refused to promote them in other US, so they didn't get proper exposure here. Some of their other great songs are "Go To Sleep", "It Hurts", "Things Will Never Be the Same", and "Opportunity Nox"...just to name a few. They are so underrated, it's really sad.
A great song from a great band. RIP Marie. Also, this should give you inspiration for your next Rob Squad Movie Reactions video. Pretty Woman. This was part of the soundtrack, and as you can see from the music video, there are clips from the movie throughout. Great movie. A classic in fact. Love you guys. Keep up the great work.

You may not remember Roxette because she and Per Gessle split the lead vocals, and I think you did a song where he was out front more.
Marie's voice gives me goosebumps. Roxette have so many amazing songs. I still remember hearing "The Look" for the first time in the '80's....and then it was hit after incredible hit! "It just happens" is simply stunning. RIP Marie - you are truly one of a kind!

Their Spanish album is fantastic and I really only listen to that Lol She sounds great in Spanish. She was friends with Frida from AꓭBA and did a couple of duets with her. And this song was HUGE back then.
Ever since they came along, there was never that long of a gap before I put on their music again. Including a CD of their I got from McDonalds. Yeah, McDonalds. Marie Fredriksson's voice is just so magical.
Always loved this song. Could not remember which one you all did but Jay it was not only one but two. You Got The Look and Listen to Your Heart. Keep up good work. You are such a cute couple.
