Per and Marie were a perfect combination, he is still putting out great music. Still can’t listen to them without crying, the loss of Marie is still pretty raw.
Apart from ABBA, arguably the most successful band to come out of Sweden. You've done four of their biggest songs (this, "The Look", "Listen to Your Heart", and "It Must Have Been Love", but you're not done yet. "Fading Like a Flower (Every Time You Leave)" is a banger, as is "Dangerous" or "Church of Your Heart". Or, if you want to go back to their EARLY EARLY days, check out "Neverending Love", which was their first ever single in 1986. RIP Marie Fredriksson (1958-2019). P.S. The male singer's name is Per Gessle.
All fantastic suggestions! I would add "Spending My Time" and the non-single cut "Things Will Never Be the Same" -- both from the Joyride album. But then, the entire Joyride album is great.
How do you decide when they have so many bangers??? Must have been Love Dangerous Cry Watercolours in the rain. The look Listen to your heart Things will never be the same The sweet hello the sad good bye Do you get excited Chances Almost unreal Sleeping in my car Fireworks Silver blue Soul deep Come back before you leave Milk and toast and honey Wish I could fly How do you do Room service She doesn't live here anymore What's she like Hot-blooded Perfect day Spending my time Church of your heart Run to you And so many many more.
The pride of Sweden, along with ABBA. I've met them a couple of times, such down-to-earth people, and saw them live a number of times. The whistling in the song was inspired by Monty Python's "Always look on the bright side of life". Per Gessle is still active, wich he's been ever since 1979, and his breakthrough with his band Gylllene Tider, one of the most successful groups ever in Sweden.
"Joyride" was a huge Hit and in May 1991 it reached No 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It´s one of Roxettes four No 1 hits on Billboard Hot 100. Marie Fredriksson is an icon in Sweden and we miss her Big Time 😢 May she rest in piece ❤
This song will forever remind me of 6th grade Social Studies class, Kelly Sims sat behind me and one day I turned around to ask her a question and she said "Hello....you fool....I love you....wanna join the Joyride?" and we both started singing this song, much to the annoyance of Mrs. Breese, our teacher. I also remember Kelly writing the lyrics to this song all over the margins of her assignments.
Thx for doing one more Roxette video. I love them so much. More great songs are "Sleeping in my car", "How do you do", "Fading like a flower", "She doesn't live here anymore" or "Do you get excited". So hard to choose. So many fab songs.
❤️ My daughter was 2 when this was released and she had us play it over and over. In the end we made a tape with just this song (over and over). Bring back sweet memories. Per (pronounses lik "pair") Gessle is the guy in Roxette. He writes all the songs. Thanks from Sweden 🤗
This song takes me back to when I was 12, on a camping trip, cruising the trails on my bike with a walkman clipped to my shorts and this song blasting on repeat.
Often with male/female duo the female tends to outshine the male BUT Roxette the male singer is just as good imo....he has a cool, distinctive sounding voice.
With all respect to Marie, gotta give more attention to Per Gessle. He is the creator, he wrote most of their songs, and Roxette has at least 4-5 hit singles which he sings. Including The Look, that started it all. Marie's beauty, vocal talent and star-attitude often overshadows him, but there would be no Roxette without Per.
Roxette was a duo between Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle. They sold 80 million of albums. 3 world-wide tours, more than 3 million people saw them live. Four number one in the Billboard(The Look, Listen To Your Heart, It Must Have Been Love and Joyride). Both of them could sing, however, Per was the songwriter of almost all Roxette's songs, while Marie was the master of the voice and performance. You should watch their live shows from 1987 to 2001, where she was the leader and front woman of the concerts... They had a HUGE catalogue from pop and rock uptempo to ballad songs. Sadly, in September 2002, she was diagnosed with brain cancer, she was operated but Marie was never the same, she lost stability and the vision of one eye. She had to learn to walk, talk and sing again from zero. She fought 17 years against that illness and the pain. Marie Fredriksson died on the 9th December 2019. She was just 61 years old. Marie was a great human being and artist. Miss Effe will always be missed by her fans... Greetings from 🇦🇷.
"How do you do?", "Listen to your heart", "Crash, boom, bang"; "Fading like a flower", "Dangerous", "Runaway", "Things will never be the same", my favourite "Almost unreal". They were hit-makers! Absolutely. Belive me, make seperate playlist for them ;)
I saw them at the Fox theater in Atlanta in Feb many tears ago. An assume show. When we left, still shocked by the show it actually was snowing, a highly unusual sight in GA. What a night!
Yes More Roxette they have a lot more great songs. Fading like a Flower is a awesome song too. you did 3 Songs of theirs. you did Listen to your heart, It must have been love and The Look.
This song was big the summer after I graduated high school. I bought the cassette to play in my car and loved the entire thing. Fading Like a Flower may be my favorite from this album.
You need to check out K.T. Oslin. She signed her first country music record deal at 45 years old and had a huge hit in 1987 with "80's Ladies". Her vocal style was different for the time, and as far as I know is still unique in country music. Its a mix of Americana country, 80's pop and a lil R&B. Unfortunately, we lost her at 78 when COVID hit Nashville in 2020.
Glad you guys enjoyed my all-time favourite Roxette song! I remember when this first came out I already liked them, but this song elevated that to a whole new level for me! Definitely have to check out "Dangerous", "How Do You Do?", and "Fading Like A Flower" next. For a new Female Friday suggestion, I would recommend an Australian/NZ singer from the late 80's/ mid 90's by the name of Jenny Morris. The first song you should check out is "She Has To Be Loved".
Dangerous, The Look, and Joy Ride were all bangers when they came out, but my favorite of theirs was Fading Like a Flower, which has a different vibe than the other 3 🙂👍
Great reaction! I always cheered up hearing one of their songs come on the radio. If I remember he was mainly a guitarist and she mainly played the keyboards, and they both sang of course. I remember being sad when I learned that she had passed away before Christmas (I don't remember when, just in December) 2019 after a long battle with a brain tumor. 😞
Marie was and still is an absolute rocket sound she will be remembered for her awesome talent and her personality on stage and as person herself she is greatly missed
Another thing about the 80s was the variety of countries many of the bands were from besides England or America. Ireland (U2), Sweden (Roxette, and Europe), Australia (INXS and Icehouse), Canada (Bryan Adams), Germany (Scorpions), etc
This was one of those many staples we’d ride around and jam out to back in the day!! Huge hit! “The Look” is another hit of theirs I highly suggest.💝💙✨
Very cool if this is real, I see and really like your reactions to music I've enjoyed for so long, and it is very encouraging that the next generation is getting to like our old stuff too!!
You guys are so cool I wish I could hug you both together, you are enjoying the music from our past and realizing how good it was, and is, and you are both so sweet people.... I like you so much.... thanks for bringing the past to the present in such a comfortable way....
Y’all are killing it tonight! Swedish pop works much better than Prozac! Bravo! Future Swede Female Friday requests: ABBA “Knowing Me, Knowing You”; Robyn “Dancing On My Own”; Ace of Base “Beautiful Life”
Being a big Roxette fan, 'Joyride' is just about one of my all-time faves of mine, the song, as well as the album 'Joyride'. So glad that you reacted to it. I was about to say I got it for my Confirmation ages 14, but that was another album (LP's back then in 1991), but then remembered I bought it later with some of the money gifted to me because I also got a stereo Hi-Fi system with a record player to play LP's on that Conformation day too. Good times and great memories.
I love this song!! My 7th grade PE teacher used to play the boombox while we ran laps and we would always cheer when this song came on. So fun and catchy 😊 We used to joyride in the 90s as well, except we called it The Loop, and it was basically just a several-block circuit that people would drive up one of the main streets downtown, cut across, then back down one of the main streets, repeat. I wasn’t really part of the Loop crowd, but my foster sisters were and they were always dragging me with them because the thought I needed to be cooler 😂 Meanwhile, my music friends and I would park behind a substation at the end of the airport runways (which was apparently called The Anarchy Spot). We’d sit on the hood of the car, smoke clove cigarettes, and watch planes take off and land.
I meant to recommend it last Fridsy but check out the group First Aid Kit and their song Emmylou that focuses on the love between Emmylou and Graham Nash and Johnny Cash and June Carter.
How can anyone not love Rob and Amber. You guys make every day happy for me and my cat in Bristol England. My best friend at school loved Roxette (personally I'm more a Black Sabbath lady). Xxx
It took me all this time to get that catchy whistle part out of my head and now you guys put it back in ! Lol. Roxette more than any of other band had this specific kind of feel-good music that I loved.
I was checking your reactions, because I was sure you reacted to more Roxette! This song is your 4th reaction to them, and your 2nd reaction to the the guy, Per Gessle singing. He sang "The Look," and Marie sang "Listen to Your Heart" and "It Must Have Been Love." They still have many other songs that are great you haven't hit yet, so keep going!
Fun reaction, guys. Per Gessle, the guy in the Roxette videos, wrote the lyrics & music to this song and was the primary song writer of the duo. He also sang lead vocals some songs and played rhythm & acoustic guitars. And it was actually him who screamed ROXETTE towards the end of the song. ❤ Even when they were no longer successful in the U.S., they continued putting out hits throughout Europe and South America
Roxette is the BEST pop band ever. Marie Fredriksson was the best vocalist EVER. Sad that she died. The love of my life. ROXETTE ROX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am LOVING your Duran Duran shirt. My favorite band of all time. Love that you picked this song and showed the video. Videos… back when MTV actually played videos 24/7 and the “M” stood for music. Man I miss the 80’s!!!
My son had just been born and this song was a staple on the radio. This brings back memories of driving around to get him to stop crying and singing this to him. Such a good energy song.
Great as always! Have you done «The Look»? Fun fact, An exchange stundent from the US brought back a tape with Roxette back home. He begged his local DJ for months to play the song. One day he did, and as we say, the rest is history!
Still waiting to see my favorite band "LILIAC" for a female Friday with their incredible lead singer Melody Cristea. This is a family band of 3 brothers and 2 sisters who have killer cover songs and also 2 albums of their own music. Please, make all of us LILIAC fans (the "Fangs") happy by reacting to them. You will not be disappointed!
This hit me in the feels. Haven't listened to them for years but this was my first album purchase back in the day. Also sentimental because I spent time in Sweden not long after. Great vid as always!
remember them coming out...killer song. Thanx for this little reminder of my youth. Watchin and lovin ya'll lots- your boy in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Keep rollin em out. catch ya next time. Go with God. Peace.
And the guy keeps on going, he just released a new album a little while ago. She's Got the Look is one of their best, full of secret meanings and I'm all about secret meanings.
Roxette is awesome. They are one of my must buy cd band. You covered 4 now.....ohhhhh there is alot more! I see alot of fantastic suggestions on here. Here's one that tear at you heartstrings....its called: Queen Of Rain, they have a video on it. Keep on Rockin' & God Bless
They had several great songs that I enjoyed listening to......Crash, Boom, Bang. The Look. Dressed for Success. And I haven't heard Joyride in a long time. Lol.... "It must have been love" and "Listen to your Heart" were my favorites. 😊👍
RIP Marie Fredriksson (lead singer) you’ll never be forgotten 1958-2019 🙏❤️ when this song came out they gave free cassette tapes as advertising/promoting this song. I still have it to this day
My brother in law is a Rush fan. My sister is a big Roxette fan. Their tapes were played regularly in our 4 person apartment in college. My brother in law now has to dig out her cassettes when he paints. He is hooked. 😂
Roxette were huge in europe in 90s Fun fact: i lived in stockholm, sweden 5 yrs ago before moving back to chicago Per gessle, the male singer of roxette was my neighbor . Amazing dude
I Knew a few Swedes that told me both of these artists were in their full time bands in Sweden and came together from time to time to make music as Roxette which has always been way more successful than their main bands. Odd story that they never dropped their full time bands and maintained Roxette which was actually successful, but, that's how they liked it. This seemed to be common knowledge in Sweden. I wikipedia'd this and it sounds close. They seemed to make an album then go solo or back to a band then reunited for another album. My favorite album of theirs is Crash Boom Bang, and the songs "See Me" and "What's she like" on there are by far, my favorite of theirs.
This is such a happy song, and it brings so many good memories. It was one of the first music videos I saw back In the early 90's, when we got access to MTV via satelite connection (illegaly probably, but I was 5 or 6 back then, so I don't really know), and later, when I started dating my husband, he took me for a drive. Said he'll take me to Rome. And he did, there's a Village called Rzym (Rome In polish) an hour away from our city, so he took me In his car, and once we were outside of the city limit my metal head husband put this song on. Because he loves it as well, and he wanted it to be a joyride for both of us.
Roxette's JOYRIDE album is a pop classic. Not a single dud song, and the album still holds up over 30 years later. RIP, Marie.
Yes, underrated and terrific album!
Joyride and Pearls of Passion are so insanely good albums.
i agree.i used to play it on repeat on my personal stereo when it came out.
I agree, it's a brilliant album just like every Roxette album.
horrible

@@TheNotedHero I play that song everyday love it
‘Fading like a flower’ is one of their best songs and a must listen to. 🙂
I totally agree.
How do you decide when they have so many bangers???
Must have been Love
Dangerous

Watercolours in the rain.
The look
Listen to your heart
Things will never be the same
The sweet hello the sad good bye
Do you get excited
Chances
Almost unreal
Sleeping in my car
Fireworks
Silver blue
Soul deep
Come back before you leave
Milk and toast and honey
Wish I could fly
How do you do
Room service
She doesn't live here anymore
What's she like
Hot-blooded
Perfect day
Spending my time
Church of your heart
Run to you
And so many many more.
This is one of their best songs. Great voice gone way to soon. RIP
Jay & Amber, their "Dangerous" and "Fading Like a Flower (Every Time You Leave)" were more top 10 hits.
Amen! Miss that voice ❤
I think Fading Like a Flower is my favorite of theirs 🙂👍
vulnerable is a fantastic song as well
"Dangerous" is an awesome song! Surprised RSR hasn't done it yet on Female Friday.

Roxette is one of my favorite bands out of the 80's. Marie had a beautiful voice and she and Per made some great music together.
She really did have a beautiful voice. Underrated.
Its 90s band, not 80s

Marie really shines on "Spending My Time," and if you want to hear her rock out, "Hot Blooded."
I saw her last performance here in Brazil.......she was the same as ever ! what privilege ! I had seen them live in NYC in the 90's. RIP
Thx for doing one more Roxette video. I love them so much. More great songs are "Sleeping in my car", "How do you do", "Fading like a flower", "She doesn't live here anymore" or "Do you get excited".
So hard to choose. So many fab songs.
Per Gessle writes some of the greatest pop melodies. He is still recording as PG Roxette. RIP Marie.
This is one of those songs that I just can’t sit still while it’s playing even if my mood is down. It always gets me going!!
❤️ My daughter was 2 when this was released and she had us play it over and over. In the end we made a tape with just this song (over and over). Bring back sweet memories.

This song is ICONIC. Fading Like A Flower is probably my favorite though that you MUST listen to.
Roxette are amazing and may Marie R.I.P.
Usually on their albums, Per sings one song then Marie sings the next. They alternate- both sounding amazing.
This song takes me back to when I was 12, on a camping trip, cruising the trails on my bike with a walkman clipped to my shorts and this song blasting on repeat.
This song just makes me happy.

Great pick. Also do "How do you do", "Fading like a flower","Spending my time","Dressed for Success", so many hits by them

I love this song so much. It is one of my absolute go-to 'driving and singing along at the top of my lungs', songs.

Jenny Morris is awesome. Her, Annie Crummer, Sharon O'Neill and Shona Laing. NZ women rocked the 80s.
Roxette's music was great. Very uplifting! As other's have said, "Dangerous" was another one of my favorite tunes of theirs.

They have some great songs. Fading like a flower, spending my time, and how do you do are a some of my favourite
RIP Marie, Losing her still hurts. Thanks for playing this.
'Listen To Your Heart' would be my next suggestion. Cheers.
My favorite song of roxette.
Roxette - 'Sleeping in my car' 🔥🔥 Very underrated song... Marie was in great form vocally...
Roxettes queen of rain is a heartbreaker
I graduated in '85, and back then there were 3 places to cruise in OKC - Air Depot in MWC, 12th st in Moore, and NW 39th EXPY by Lake Overholser.
"Spending My Time" "Fading Like A Flower" are great too. ✌️
remember them coming out...killer song.
This whole album gives me high school vibes❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥 "Spending My Time" is also a good Roxette tune
Roxette were huge in europe in 90s
Fun fact: i lived in stockholm, sweden 5 yrs ago before moving back to chicago
Per gessle, the male singer of roxette was my neighbor .
She died of cancer a couple years back😢
