To me, the rooms all seem like different realities/ alternate universes, but in each one it feels like he is disappointing someone in the beginning scenes....the parents, the party goers, the wife/child, the lover. It feels like by the end he realizes that he is already in a reality that is his happiness. I'm sure there are tons of ways to interpret this MV, that's what makes it art! Thanks for reacting.

My interpretation it's Very similar, but instead of alternative universes I see like all different fases of his life, in all his fases he feels he's disappointing someone.

It's as if society imposes, (and it does impose) that we all have to go through the same things, being born, growing up, working, drinking, smoking, getting married, having children, etc., living within specific boxes and scenarios made for us to live in. in them, until some people manage to see the way out and do things differently. Nowadays, our society is more flexible (in Asia things still move at a slower pace), even though we still have a long and arduous road to live without restrictions, prejudices and judgments. I think this clip meant to say more or less that, the suffocation that one feels when living in a cage amid rules, but, when realizing that there is a way out, we can be happy even living within some stereotypes. RM is always perfect, in fact, what can we say about the members of BTS, they are 7 geniuses, together or separately, they only deliver masterpieces made with mastery...(Sorry for my bad english...lol)
RM's new album is titled Right Place, Wrong Person and will be out May 24th. He recorded the album before he enlisted. You should watch all their enlistment videos to see all of them with their buzz cuts. Well everyone except Suga because he's doing public service instead of active duty he didn't have an entrance ceremony.

This is something he worked on before enlistment and decided to release now even though he’s still there :) other members have also done this, where they will release music or documentaries that were recorded months before they enlisted. They really never rest! We’re very lucky that they care so much about giving us new content. Probably helps that they all genuinely enjoy music 💜

I think the lamp fight lady is just another depiction of what someone's every day might look like -- party guy, family guy, guy with the emotional girlfriend, young child -- but also the people who see you as part of their world.
I feel like each room is a different decision you make. The decisions you make will make you sad or happy. In the end he made a decision to be happy.
This is why I love BTS. Whether as a group or solo, you never know what you are going to get. What they do makes you THINK and sparks conversations. You don't find that much art or substance in music nowadays.
The video reminds me of V's Fri(end)s. All being sad one minute, happy another. And two RM's on screen just like the end of Tae's track.

Not being someone new but being his true, authentic self... The girls all represent himself, his longing for a relationship/family or not, his inner fight with himself and then at the end the girl he recognizes himself in that is also confused at first, just like him. It's about his journey to self-discovery (what does he wants in life) and finding inner peace (accepting himself).
He cut his hair way before he enlisted into the military. He said he did it because he felt like it and because of the heat (it was during summer).

Love RM 😭♥️ thank you for giving him love!! And I loved your take! I loved the MV! Different life paths/decisions/times in a person's life and the different heart/motivations behind each choice. You can be oppressed by societal/relational pressures and feel trapped and desire escape, or you can be truly happy in each place enjoying it. Depends on each person and even each time in a person's life. It felt like the MV was about breaking free of those other pressures and finding the person you're meant to be all along. The door that he wanted to go through that seemed or was closed before, he can now finally choose.

His wife is the librarian.the door takes him to various different phase.he keeps switching between the doors running from one to another.the last scene resembles the bookshelf in the midnight library where each books depicts the regrets of protogonist Nora seed.

You hit the nail on the head about interpretation. I also love how the song can also be the perspective of the other people in one's life -- they want to see their loved one come back to them after they've "checked out" for so long.

I watched it at midnight. I love the more mature motif of the MV. Always love love his music.
He didn’t direct it personally, but directed the director. The director talks about it in an interview. Lee Sung Jin (the director) initially had the usual K-pop song and dance video in mind but he kept getting rejected when he brought those ideas. Then Lee realized RM chose him because of his love of the work Lee did on the popular show Beef (Netflix). So that’s when he started going in this type of direction and got the green light.
RM would also review takes and say things like “I think we can do better.” So they would reshoot. RM makes sure he gives his best.

Every mix tape and album RM puts out is different from the last. RM is the most creative and experimental artist in BTS. my take on the MV. A confused RM wanders around the maze of potential life stories, nothing feels a perfect fit. Eventually He is led out of the maze only to find its all an illusion. Sets designed and made by someone else. So he escapes all the boxes of stereotypes. In essence I see this very much like his DO YOU only far more confused by life experiences as life teaches us that life is not that simple.
IMO its a self reflection song...and some rooms it shows fighting maybe representing internal conflicts.. between real Kim Namjoon and public persona RM and what he really wants in life

This is a multilayered work of art. It is inspired by the book Midnight Library. RM worked with indie producers for the album. It is in the “alternative genre.” So I don’t know that there will be any rapping on the album. If so, that will be a bold move on RapMon’s part. For the videos, he worked with an award winning film director. It gives the feeling of watching a movie.
Okay, I finally agree with you. I got the same feel from this dramatic art piece.
I see this as a realisation of moving through "the maze of life". Something Namjoon has mentioned many times in quotes. It is all the different "lives" he could live. He is not happy, waiting for his spring. He says he is "fine tonight", which seems to be fairly untrue. Can't shower or even wash his face, you don't have to be the person that you see. I think it is about being present in each life decision and finding your own happiness. He find s the girl who is also lost in the maze and she is the who makes him laugh and the one who leads him out.
This song is about the pressure to grow up within predetermined boundaries, such as the social construction of marriage and having a heteronormative partner, it's really profound knowing how in Korean society especially, people live a lot by social pressure and what people expect of them, That is why in the end we see how he understands that he does not

Love this song, it’s so mellow and calming. Also, you can see all the guys with short hair on their enlistment ceremony videos. There’s one for Jin, one for JHope, and one for RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook. Suga didn’t have one as he had a shoulder injury and was ruled as unfit for active combat training, so his enlistment process was different 🙂💜
I saw it also as him having a fear of and running from things shown. Commitment, relationships, growing up and the responsibility, uncertainty, and changes they each bring. So he was going through life scared, not having control over what he wants to do or who he wants to become. The only way to have true control of your future and choices though is to push past those fears and THEN you can decide if that’s something you even want for yourself. Fear holds us back in the way that we either stay away from what scares us even if it could bring us happiness and contentment, or we do the opposite and stay in things we don’t want to be in-or maybe we do-but we couldn’t truly know until we get past that fear and think of it objectively. So we see him eventually get past those fears and in the end he has true control over what “door” he can choose, what path he can take. The fear is no longer holding him back from choosing or not choosing certain paths. That’s at least my interpretation.

For many, this is a new genre (which he masters) for him. But if you have been watching him grow (as an artist and a person) it just makes so much sense. From Voice, Adrift, Reflection, Awakening, everythingoes, uhgood, Persona, Yun, Lonely, Wildflower, Change pt 2, No 2... Bicycle! and all other songs... He's been telling his story, how much he wants and has to say, how he's always unsure if he should, if he can, he's trying to love himself for a long time, to accept himself as a person, as a growing artist, as a legend, accepting the weight of the crown, all the expectations till today (with silly boycotters using his words for clout and performative validation)...
For me the MV talks about that: all the different lives he can or could live (being with friends at a party, having a wife and daughter, having just a girlfriend, being baby-ed by people in his surroundings and some that consider themselves ARMY and treat 30yo people like 5yo or worse and when the baby doesn't react they leave). He's unhappy in all those situations because he feels he's incomplete. There comes that woman: his inspiration, his love for creation, his muse and EVEN could be ARMY as they walk the path together and she shows him he can be himself (he thanked us previously and said he was confident he could do whatever he wanted bc he trusts us). He now can chill at the party, can consider having a married life (he said he abandoned the idea a couple years back, too much going on to explain in a comment xD), can be happy with a girlfriend too, and even accept some babying when it comes from a place of concern or love (not possessive or selfish: if you don't do this, I won't look at you).
In the end, he leaves all these sets behind, to go in a non default path (he talks about this in Yun too and Wildflower), he goes with his passion, inspiration, muse or even with ARMY, together. :)
You should react to the THEORY explained. It will explain mainly everything what's going on. All I can say is that this is a piece of art. RM works is always related to art and poems that he writes. 🥰💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Just so you know, RM likes this short buzz cut, and he's worn it numerous times. So it wasn't specifically because he was going to be enlisting. All of the content that is being released, was produced a while before they actually left for the military. They were brilliant in the way they all seven created content for ARMY's before they left. They aren't allowed to work for their agency while enlisted. Anyway, we knew he was working on another album, months before he left, because he told us he was in his Weverse live streams with ARMY.
And we already have a live performance of this song, because he played it for us at the AGUST D, D-Day concert when he made a guest appearance. this song didn't even have a name yet. Check out the ARMY response to his live performance. Please react to it. 💜

Everything about Come Back to Me is so good!! The song, the lyrics and the MV?? So Cinematographic! 💜 THEORY:
My interpretation is that he was in the right place but wrong person bc he was like trying to live in the expectations of the world but then when he saw that girl who was just as confused and desperate he decided to find her and at the end it shows that the girl was himself.
He realizes now to listen to his inner self to keep lone and understand himself if he wants to remain burden-free and happy even in those situations. That's why the contrast.
Now that he found himself he can be free of worries.
Another constant theme is his change of clothes. He is always back to same comfy modern hanbok kinda dress when he's with the girl/himself.
Also, something that I found really interesting is that Namjoon in front of that door is seeing her in red, blue and green. And that reminds of the lyrics of his song 'Closer"!

My understanding of this video is that it is based on the book The Midnight Library. In the book, the main character tries to kill herself and goes to The Midnight Library - the librarian takes her through the alternative lives she could have lived if she made different decisions. In each of them, she realises that she is not any happier than she is in her current real life.
RM is taking us on his journey through his “Midnight Library”. Looking through his relationships with his friends (at the party), his parents (crib), his lovers (wife & child & angry girlfriend) and himself & the third woman we see. In the earlier parts of the video, he is confused and feels out of place. He is struggling to come to terms with what's going on around him. The scene where he meets the third woman, he is staring at himself but then realises he is staring at her. He recognises himself in her.
Then he realises that he isn't lost. These feelings of melancholy and regret are normal. We all experience them. It is up to us to find peace and joy within ourselves. Which leads us back through his alternative lives again except now, he's content and at peace.
The lyrics are about himself and his relationship with himself (I think). :)

I am curious to see if the other videos for the other songs fill out the story we are introduced to here. We also know that RM read the book The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, which is about a woman who commits suicide and in the afterlife is given multiple choices to try out other multiverse versions of her life that were based on different choices she made at times. (A life where she married a certain boyfriend, for example.) But everywhere she goes, she finds something that isn't quite the way she would want it to be. In some of the multiple lifetimes she visits, she meets other people who are also dipping in and out of THEIR lifetime choices and through conversations with them, starts to think about what makes a life a good life. I don't know exactly how that fits into the video, but I feel like he notices the woman because she's looking lost and confused the way he is and he recognizes her as a kindred soul. (Some ARMY are speculating that she represents ARMY.)
Everyone is talking about how this song is also crazy long by modern standards, which automatically makes it commercially problematic. But he still did it because that's what he wanted to do, and that's why ARMY support them -- so they have the freedom to do their art the way they want.

Running themes I’m tracking, similar to other BTS solo material: the rooms from above remind me of J-Hope’s box in More, V’s last MV for Fri/ends is similar to how scenes are repeated but in different POV’s or states of mind, how V faces himself at the end, same with Namjoon turning to find himself there smiling before he turns back to the girl he walks off with at the end - which feels like a representation of ARMY among other things - they walk out side by side into the world outside their little personal confines
Love that he always makes me think and cry from a deep emotionally resonant place that words cant quite capture…some sort of sweet ennui
He takes all the titles in this MV, Boyfriend, Husband, Dad, and Child 😁 It's like showing an entire life of a man. He just wants to come back to the times that everything is OK! Replace all these lonely nights and nights of fighting to those happy nights.

Jooni's hair - no. He does that during the summer sometimes. Did it after their group activities. The internet almost had a meltdown because "military service". He explained he was just hot.

Hi dear. 68yo ARMY here. I'd love to see you react to their enlistment ceremonies...except for Suga who is doing his service as a civil servant due to a shoulder injury suffered during a car accident during his training years. He was working part time delivering food on his moped and he couldn't tell the company about his injury because he would have been fired from BTS and danced in pain for years until 2020 when he was able to take off three months and get surgery on his shoulder.
Who the f cares about that crying baby and his excuses to not go to the military hahaha. He just wanted the easy as always.

I think everyone has to find meaning in the video and the song for themselves. And let this meaning be new every time and we rediscover the song:) For me, these are all the "standards" that society wants you to meet. The ideal friend, husband, lover, child for his parents... And after talking to his "anima" in female form, RM realized that he can fulfill these requirements, but is it necessary? Why doesn't he open the door to truth? Why not escape from this "mouse trap" (because to me personally it looks like those houses with a maze for white mice in experimental laboratories). To me, none of the realities shown are the real RM! I personally know who he really is, I'm just waiting for him to say it openly because it's his right and no one else can speak for him! But as I wrote this is my "version" of the film (because it's a short film not a video). Maybe yours is another. Maybe the version of each of us is different as we are different :)
