This song made me feel like I was back in Jr High/School. Back when the OGs were actually gangstas with real messages. I have a different interpretation. A monk is not supposed to get angry no matter what you throw at him (words, rotten veggies, etc.) All these years, BTS has had to deal with all kinds of stuff (Break Wings campaign, trying to get Hobi kicked out cuz he didn't meet some haters' beauty standards, the hate comments V got after his grandmother died, and even death threats), but since they're idols they can't ask people if they're out of their flippin' minds. For me this dovetails with his line about not being a diplomat which I take to not only be a reference to their speeches in front of the UN General Assembly, but also being asked to secure SK's bid for the World Expo 2030 to be held in Busan which then led to the Best Is Yet to Come concert and BTS getting stuck with the bill for that. So many layers to unpick with this track and mv. I love the nod to the underground UK rap/music scene, which is brutal council estate honesty, but also him literally starting the video in the underground foot tunnel, RM going back to his roots with this and reminding us rap is a medium for truth. filming the video in public is hilarious, you can see everytime he has to stop for traffic and cyclists or if he thinks someone is watching. Genius at work again!!
Groin in architecture and nature is a place of strength and change. It can mean the pelvic area, yes - which is also artist's space of 'from the depths'. It's fun to watch RM trying to keep from laughing in several shots. In the music video, RM portrays the 'groin' with the angles, and viewing the ceiling vs the stairs in the beginning clip. The angles of the mirrors and the disjointed concrete blocks that go down the street, along with the brick wall are all points of separation and joining the different textures and perspectives. There are passengers (people going by on the street and on the stairs), in our life who witness, or walk by without noticing what we're up to. (my interpretation) He's pushing everything back to a place of just himself in the raw environment of poetry and melody styled like the era that strongly influenced his rap journey ie the lack of others in the video this time, the running suit, the colors, the angle of the camera looking up as he bends over the lense to dominate the space.

For the lyrics of the whole album in general we are getting the idea that he got his heart broken and it was a toxic relationship for a long time but now he's free and venting everything. Also, this is mostly of how pressured he felt as a leader of bts bc of all the weight of expectations and responsibilities. BTS has worked so hard and RM got really burned out the last years and he had to take some time alone to discovered himself again. BTS is the biggest group in the world right now and since 2017 they have received recognition for the economic contributions to the country, contributions to spreading Korean culture and language around the world through their music and performances and for helping to popularize K-pop on a global scale. Because of this they ended up receiving the "Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit" from the President of South Korea in 2018. This is like a huge prestigious award and the ones who have been previously awarded have DECADES of experience while BTS at that time only had 5, which makes BTS the youngest recipients ever. They are also the first and only singers of "idols music" that have made it Anyways, years later other kpop companies asked for a military exemption for idols using BTS' achievements (BTS' company never participated in that). Bc of this the "BTS law" was created. The government decided that K-pop stars can postpone their military service until age 30 if they have that culture merit award. Then the companies complained saying that "It was unrealistic and that it was a law just for BTS" how ironic when they were the ones using their achievements to get benefited lmao. nevertheless after BTS was getting bigger and bigger, politicians suddenly started discussing a military exemption for them which caused a divided public opinion. They got a lot of hate fo this for YEARS even when they never asked for it. RM has represented the group many times as the leader, he worked nonstop and also did a lot of speeches even at the the UN and the white house. BTS end up getting diplomatic passports and they are proud of that but also feel the pressure. The thing is that people started mixing BTS with politics and stuff and that's when RM said like "hold on, I'm just a normal boy that loves to rap and sing, I'm not a politician". That's the line: "Not a fcking diplomat. I just made it and now they are pressuring me to step up, Like I represent something? All I represent is myself" For example: The South Korean Government used BTS to do a free concert in the city of Busan to benefit in some "World expo", but the organization was terrible and the worst is that they didn't want to pay anything, so BTS and their company had to do it. Many people ended up blaming them instead of the politicians that planned everything in the first place. After that, BTS announced their decision to enlist to the military service. That took for surprised the government and left politicians embarrassed for never taking a decision lol. RM felt conflicted from the very start, even before their debut. After all, he was supposed to be part of a hip hop group. You see him talk about it in their pre-debut youtube vlogs. But like Yoongi said, 'we could never have come this far without RM'. I was so happy when he released an m/v for this, it is my fav track. And it was filmed here in the UK. BTS newbies like yourself may find it surprising or shocking to hear RM going off but ARMY know this is HIM. I recommend you listen to his first mixtape 'RM'. It has the same vibe although that is more hip hop. I love MONSTER and GOD RAP from that album.💜

I feel like western listeners are confused about what BTS actually is. They are not just a Disney Channel boy band. RM and Suga started as rappers. They have always sworn on their albums. First Lost was my fav then Groin until yesterday when I saw Nuts. How does it keep getting better? The experimental jazz sound of Lost was interesting, the grittier Groin was so much fun because you know he must be so relieved to just be himself and then Nuts combines it all and he gets to be free and a great artist (he always is but it’s so evident while still being more free and street in Nuts). That is not true. They were banned from broadcast (on TV) which is normal in South Korea if somebody curses in songs. You can still listen to these songs in SK on streaming platforms, they are not totally banned.

It probably refers when RM went to a temple and some monks knew he was going to visited them and secretly contacted the media and reporters. They secretly took pictures of RM and a monk literally leaked the private conversation he had with RM talking about his worries, the military service and stuff. RM later saw that and shared on his IG stories: "“i was thankful for the good time but i didn't expect an article to be published about it next time, i will go to another temple quietly.. #lowkeymustbelowkey”.
You can tell he was pissed and honestly fck those monks- Namjoon is tired of people not treating him as a human, he deserves respect and privacy too.

RM felt conflicted from the very start, even before their debut. After all, he was supposed to be part of a hip hop group. You see him talk about it in their pre-debut youtube vlogs. But like Yoongi said, 'we could never have come this far without RM'.
I was so happy when he released an m/v for this, it is my fav track. And it was filmed here in the UK. BTS newbies like yourself may find it surprising or shocking to hear RM going off but ARMY know this is HIM. I recommend you listen to his first mixtape 'RM'. It has the same vibe although that is more hip hop. I love MONSTER and GOD RAP from that album.💜
The line about the monk is based in a true betrayal. You really need to watch the video of him and Jimin. I did cry at one point to think of the pressure he has been under all these years. We knew he was under pressure but I don’t think I realized how much.

I feel like western listeners are confused about what BTS actually is. They are not just a Disney Channel boy band. RM and Suga started as rappers. They have always sworn on their albums. Not as much in title tracks, because they need to be clean enough to be broadcasted, but certainly on the b-sides. I guess I don’t see what the big deal is about 30 year old men swearing and talking about sex. This isn’t New Kids on the Block.

First Lost was my fav then Groin until yesterday when I saw Nuts. How does it keep getting better? The experimental jazz sound of Lost was interesting, the grittier Groin was so much fun because you know he must be so relieved to just be himself and then Nuts combines it all and he gets to be free and a great artist (he always is but it’s so evident while still being more free and street in Nuts). Can’t wait to see your reaction in a few days. I’ve watched it about 13 times so far.

That is not true. They were banned from broadcast (on TV) which is normal in South Korea if somebody curses in songs. You can still listen to these songs in SK on streaming platforms, they are not totally banned.
