  • We are back for another Q&A session. I'd like to start doing these live going forward, but for the first one I went ahead and recorded the session and posted it as a premier.

I have a few questions about copy/paste using M32 and M32 edit. Questions like, if I copy a channel, like from the second layer and move it to the first layer, does that mess up any bus mixes or matrics? On our board, the continuity of the channels is weird. Over time, people have added different things and it's just not right. How can I move channels without messing up other bus mixes? Or does it? I'm still searching through videos here on youtube but haven't really found the answer yet. I'm still looking though.

Yes, you can save a channel to the library and when you paste it to the new location it can remember everything, including the sends. The library has a section on the left called Scopes where you can remove features from being saved by putting a check in the box. Check means it will NOT be saved. I tend to keep mine all unchecked.

The gain/fader question ... the fader does nothing if you connect to a DAW for recording. I connected our M32 to Studio One via USB and recorded all 32 channels, and it sent the channels unprocessed - no compression, no gate, no eq. Only the gain will be applied.

That is the default setup. This allows you to record raw tracks and then send them back through the console to be processed for virtual sound check or even ripped to a 2-track on the thumb drive. If you want to have some fader involvement you can use the P16 trick and send Post Fader to your DAW ua-cam.com/video/6JLZwd0JRi8/v-deo.htmlsi=xEKSD13ulQOY8Mvy

@@mclovinfuddpucker I actually want the stems with printed effects. I am the main musician and the only one that knows how to configure the console. I want to audition each of the channels after a live service to see if they sound right, but I'm never at the console when it's being used.

That makes sense. Depending on your entire console setup it can be possible using the P16 and Buses to get a “post fader” capture of channels into your DAW. How many channels do you need to capture into your DAW in this setup?

@@AllamHouse 15 channels, which is all the drum channels plus vocal microphones. I want more close mic sounds on the drums but seem to be getting too much ambience, and I want to figure out if the vocal mics have proper gating/expansion. Going to configure the internal side chain on vocal mics to control when the gates open. Out Internet feed goes straight off a bus on the board; no external mixing. Vocal mics are dynamic mics, so I would expect a fair amount of rejection.

15 channels is perfect and leaves a lot of opportunity to record other mixes into your DAW as well. I would setup the P16 trick to give you the desired, post fader (or pre fader) recording of each channel into your DAW. You could then use the other 17 USB channels to record your MixBUS or FX returns into your DAW. Or, you have the ability to take 1-15 as raw channels and also send those same channels with the P16 trick out 17-31 into your DAW and have both options to work with. Lots of possibilities in front of you.
