PLEASE READ! I think everyone watches this video and thinks it's the end-all-be-all solution to every ceramic Coating removal. ITS NOT! I specifically created this video and mentioned that the coating used is an entry-level 2 year Coating that has been on the surface of a daily driver for 2+ years. With this in mind brake buster was able to knock it down sufficiently with the clay bar. Some of you are asking me questions regarding other coatings & polishing... YES for thicker and more resilient coatings you will have to polish (and there are so many variables to this so just contact the manufacturer of the coating). But when I made this video I put myself in the shoes of an enthusiast not necessarily just a professional, I understand many of you do not have access professional-grade Coatings and there will come a time you would like to remove the current entry grade coating off your vehicle.
Owe you a beer for this one. I was getting ready to apply a new coating. Washed the car with diluted Super Clean, decontaminated with CarPro TRIX, clayed and then machine polished with Griot's Perfecting Creme. The 25 month old Optimum Gloss Coat was still beading surprising well. Came across your video, tried P&S BB diluted 4-1 and it knocked it right down. Thanks for this, saved me from doing multiple polishing steps. I will, however, not use P&S BB on my coated wheels, but the trade-off was well worth it.
Just wanted to add that this video really helped me out, i carried out a machine polish using a rotary and didn't realise the holograms that get created but ceramic coated before noticing, took around 3-4 days of hard work, 2 stage machine polishing with both a rotary and DA machine but i started off with this method and clay bar and it was so helpful and effective. thanks for this.
Glad I stumbled across this. I am looking to recoat a daily driver that has a nearly 2 year old mckees coating on it. It still performs okay but shows wear in the high wear areas. I did not want to compound or polish since it’s soft japanese paint and still in excellent condition. I’m surprised brake buster is strong enough though. It’s economical and works well enough on maintained wheels but it’s far from the strongest wheel cleaner. I use it 10:1 on my ceramic coated wheels (gtechniq csl). Kind of worrisome it could be degrading the coating (even if a minuscule amount each time).

I used cerakote- few layers on plastic trim. I’ve got the break duster, will these steps work on plastic trim? Coatings a couple months old so pretty new. Appreciate any insight you could provide.
Cerakote is a very thick coating, and almost impossible to remove sadly. We do not recommend ever using a semi permanent coating on plastic trim because plastics cannot be polished or sanded. From our experience cerakote pretty much totals trim if not properly applied

Might be kinda neat future video if you showed that with this method to add some proof/evidence of it being removed beyond just the water beading. Just a thought. ;)
Coating removal all depends on the coating. Some coatings have a thickness of 5+ microns while others have 1 micron or less. Mckeeys 37 is on the low end of 1 micro or less, with this in mind, and the coating was on the daily driver for 2+ years (coating is only rated up to 2 years) a chemical decon was sufficient for the coating removal process. If you want to play it safe follow up with a light polish. If I was trying to remove something like 2+ layers of fresh P&S Inspiration (3-4 microns) just like Brian you can physically see the coating being removed throughout the polishing process. The truth is the vast majority of enthusiasts and consumers are using lighter end Coatings like cquartz light, these are polymer based forms of Coating that are enhanced with SIO2. Yes they are considered coatings, but they are not SIO2 based.
@@48Detailing Interesting. Not sure I know enough to understand what "not being SiO2 based" means exactly but kinda surprising to hear many consumer-available coatings are some other form of polymer as opposed to what qualifies an actual SiO2 coating. Indeed sounds like your familiar with all this though, lol. Good stuff.

If your wheels are coated and your regularly washing the vehicle, you don’t really need to use a wheel cleaner full strength. 10:1 brake buster would work great on coated wheels or you can use regular car wash soap

Hi. I know it's been a while since you added this video so I sure hope you will read this because I have a question for you. I applied Optimum Gloss-Coat in the summer of 2019. I want to remove it all so I can apply another product. I really like your video because you just proved that a polisher is not always necessary to achieve this task. Since this one is supposed to last up to 2 years, do you believe using a clay mitt with Super Clean would work? And if so what dilution ratio would you use?
Never used super clean so can’t really recommend a dilution. I do also recommend a light primer polish prior to applying another coating to remove any light scratches from the clay mitt process
Yes! First the chances of you not scratching the paint after The clay bar is impossible. Second your paint is gonna have light marring even if you are carful With your wash process. 3rd the clay bar and apc can remove only so much polishing is a way to exfoliate the paint pours even further peeping for coating application
Nice video. I used Lithium Ceramic Slam on my car, but accidentally got some on my acrylic side mirrors. Will break buster work to remove that without hurting the mirrors? I've heard machine polisher would work but not sure how to proceed.
You mentioned not to get brake buster on plastics or glass, why? and if it does what's the easiest solution to fix the plastics and glass? re-apply trim gel on the plastics maybe? @CarNewba Detailing
So breaker buster, claying and heavy compounding is all it takes to remove a ceramic coating? Besides no water beading how do you know you removed the ceramic coating?
@@48Detailing Thank you! That was my plan, but I’m not sure if I should wet sand, or buy a smaller DA and see if that’ll do the trick, or both. What product would you put on to coat it after sanding? I’m half tempted to pay you guys to come out to queen creek and help me for the sake of my sweet customer lol 😅 I just can’t leave her headlights looking that way.
I know your Break Buster video came out a while ago so if you are still doing your info vlogs, i have a question for you. I want to put some small 3m stripes on my vehicle but I have PPF covered with ceramic pro coating. Will the 3M vinyl stripes hold onto the ceramic coating or if the stripes are really important to me could i use the break buster very carefully on just the area that the stripes will be applied to. Thanks and great video.
I would just prep the area with some paint solvent and apply the stripes right over, maybe a light polish as well in the area that the stripes are going to be applied on top of would help and he Asian but of course make sure to use some prep solving after polishing as well
A couple of months ago I coated with Proje’ Ceramic from Amazon. I’d like to strip it off in order to compound, polish, apply Jescar Power Coat and Collonite 845 since I gained the confidence to try paint correction, even though I know I’m working backwards. (And I learned I love waxing and prefer the look, even if it’s short lived comparatively.) With my glass ceramic coated as well, will this BB cause any issues? If I were to foam my whole vehicle with it to clay bar after, what parts do you recommend I avoid BB coming in direct contact with (glass, plasti-dipped parts, etc)?
I would foam it panel by panel and clay it after your wash process, avoid plastics and glass. After thoroughly rinse the vehicle, then prep it for polishing
CarNewba Detailing I might needa consider a different option since I own a Crosstrek and it’s essentially lined with plastic trim around the whole car 😇
Hi CarNewba Detailing. Do you believe the method and products shown in this video would remove ceramic coating (or equivalent ie Gyeon Quartz) from Paint Protection Film (PPF - Xpel or the like) without damaging or staining the PPF? Also, are you using a fine or coarse clay? Thanks in advance.
In your case I would recommend to use a fine polish to remove the coating from the PPF! I recommend this because ppf is softer then clear coat and because brake buster is an alkaline based cleaner it might stain the PPF. If you want to try it use it at 10:1 then 5:1 but nothing stronger then that with a fine grade clay mitt!
@@48Detailing Thanks for the reply. The car was PPF'd (full front end) and Gyeon Q2MOHS+ back in 2017. The car is in perfect condition apart from in recent times where water mark etching, marring and scratching has developed, particularly on the bonnet, which has the PPF. I have taken the car back to the original installers/detailers to get the opinion - of which they then to tried to deny they coated the PPF etc even though I have the paperwork/receipts etc - and whether or not you should ceramic coat the PPF (especially back in 2017 with limited appropriate PPF coating products/information around) is also up for debate. In any case, they have tried Gyeon PPF Renew with no success, other cutting compounds, again with no success, so I am looking into other options, rather than having the PPF removed and replaced (as in certain sections it contains an expensive livery over the PPF which I really do not want to loose in the PPF removal, if I don't have to). Cheers
Why do, you want to remove the ceramic coating? If you have swirls, just polish it out and re-apply a new layer of a ceramic coating. If you have just small or nothing swirls, just apply again the ceramic coating.
@@wienerzsolt sure that would work but as an authorized installer my coating services have manufacturer warranties, so when the life cycle of the coating comes to an end & the customer want a reapplication we need to have a fresh start
@@48Detailing What do you mean by a "fresh start"? Is that wet sanding? The previous owner of my 2016 BMW 750i tried to put on exactly Nano Ceramic H9 and did a poor job that left numerous swirls with thousands of micro-beads "frozen" on top of the clear coat. The manufacturer in Germany is out of business; therefore did not reply, and never published any technical data. Full strength Kleanstrip Prepall filed to remove. So, I ceramic coated my wheels last week. I'm waiting 2 whole weeks to make sure they are cured. Before I coated them I used break buster to clean them. But now I'm worried the break buster will cause the ceramic coating to break down faster and not last as long....???
I would just use BB 5:1 on coated wheels, any ways if they are coated you can typically get away with your car wash soap solution if you maintaining the vehicle on a regular basis 👍
I know this is an older video... I coated my car about 3 years ago with gyeon mohs... its shot... do you think this will remove what's left of my coating?
It prob coukd full strength, it also deps where ur at in the process with a high spot, if ifs cured u need to basically polish it off. If its dry enough u csnt wipe it off but not cured, often times u csn reapply a bit more on that area which will allow it to kinda reactivate and go bavk to its liquid state, its solvents in the solution that allows it to be applied, n when those solvents are air dry an dissappear, it leaves the coating, which is hard. The reason u wait until the specified time to wipe off, u should do a test area firdt so u know whT that time is as it will be diff for everyone, temperature n humidity and even if there is a breeze or not will dictate how long u wait (some r uv curing which gets into anither realm) anyway, if u catch it at the right time reapplying and wiping it off then often times will work if its early into the curing process. Just an fyi for future projects since ur comment is 7 months old lol (i just realized that now).

Now if ur doing a maintenance wash vs a thorough cleaning, if im doing a thorough cleaning its mr pink on the first wash and then clean slate on the second followed by iron remover which has always gotten the wax and sealants off very good. Washing with clean mf towels with each process. So that requires me to refill it twice which 1 gallon will easily do. I dont totally fill my foamer as u'll see, the lower it gets the more air it will hold and the longer the spray time u'll get and the foaming gets better as well. Totally worth it. Id buy it over a pressure washer and foam cannon, its not better by any means than a pressure washer will yield better foam but its absolutely sufficient and a step up from a 2 bucket wash. U only need 1 bucket if u still wanna do it that way as well. Its a tool, u don't need it, just makes it a little more fun. All coatings are Silicone Dioxide !! You still have a bond even if you chemically try to remove it .! Wet sanding with 3000 or 5000 is the only way . Take a scrap panel put coating on it then wash it off like you did in the video let dry !!. Spray paint the panel and you will see the massive fail !! You have to wet sand that crap off ..
Yes but there are only a hand full of coatings you need to sand off on the market: Gtechnic crystal serum ultra, dr. Beasleys an Nano Resin pro and a few others. The rest only require a decon Like shown in the video and a light primer polish prior to application. I think I would know since my company is trained and certified with: dr. @@48Detailing well, im sure you can use acid on paint too but its not ideal and therefore people will think this is OK to do on all coatings which im sure you are getting those comments as well.
But using acid on paint is ideal in certain situations... Yes not everything is meant for beginners, But this is how manufactures and professionals across the world Recommend to level down and remove ceramic coatings. Every detail requires common sense, it should be obvious not to spray brake buster on a black vehicle in the middle of 100° weather in the sun... Alkaline to greasers and APCs Can be used on paint, Diluted acid cleaners can be used on paint but all this must be done correctly with precaution

You mentioned not to get brake buster on plastics or glass, why? and if it does what's the easiest solution to fix the plastics and glass? re-apply trim gel on the plastics maybe? @CarNewba Detailing
At times BB can stain glass and plastics if left on for to long, typically a quality clean and trim dressing will take care of it
So breaker buster, claying and heavy compounding is all it takes to remove a ceramic coating? Besides no water beading how do you know you removed the ceramic coating?
Yes! You will also notice a difference in gloss, shine and slickness!
You can fee it when it starts to feel like bare paint again it starts to get grabby when you wipe it.
What exactly did you use on the panel
The product in the video….
Hey do you think meguiars non acid wheel cleaner would work too?
Well it's a wheel cleaner so I hope it would!
Do you have a recommendation on how to remove a terrible cerakote coating off plastic headlights?
Sand them down Cerakote is so bad on TPU and plastics
@@48Detailing Thank you! That was my plan, but I’m not sure if I should wet sand, or buy a smaller DA and see if that’ll do the trick, or both. What product would you put on to coat it after sanding? I’m half tempted to pay you guys to come out to queen creek and help me for the sake of my sweet customer lol 😅
I just can’t leave her headlights looking that way.
great video. which clay pad did you use?
Autocare clay mitt
Great video buddy tfs
Como se chama o removedor ceramics
Very informative....can you tell us which clay mit you are using? Muchly appreciated!
Nanoskin clay pad
Cheers
@@bforceAU sounds like a cumbersome situation! I wish you the best of luck man!
Whats the name of the pump?
Ik pump sprayer
Marolex is the brand of the pump you use.
Great Video and explanation. What are you using as a clay bar? It look like a normal pad.
Good video
Thank you!
Could this be used to remove water spots?
Yes if used correctly! Video regarding water spot removal will be made for this weekend!
@@48Detailing awesome! Will be on the lookout for it!
Feynlab self heal lite and self heal plus won’t even buff off. You gotta sand it to remove it lol
Amazing
I coated Nano Ceramic H9 on my car before a year . How I can remove it ? Please send me the name of tools and how it’s using?
Everything you need is in the video lol
Full strength ZEP Purple (9 on the alkaline scale). Failed to remove 2x and then using the coarsest foam pad from Lake County with 3M 06061 Extra Cut compound. This barely touched any panel after about 5 hours of work covering 4 square feet. Open to any ideas before wet-sanding with Perfect-It starting at P1500. Thanks. bruceaa1459@outlook.com
City booooiii!
@@48Detailing maybe I'll dilute it down to like 10:1...I've gotta use my foam sprayer to get my fix lol thanks for the info.
That's also an option! And I feel ya man, the foam is a must throughout my day too 😂
That's also an option! And I feel ya man, the foam is a must throughout my day too 😂
Scott, once your wheels are coated, you won't need heavy cleaners, just use soap and your favorite wheel brushes.
Woah nice informative video :D Btw can I use IK 1.5 Form Sprayer instead using of Marolex ?
Thanks and yes!
Can this used to remove Cerakote Trim coat? Ceramic coating on plastic.
Probably not, that's a permanent die that seeps into the pors of the plastic
What would happen if I did use it on glass. Will it remove the coating or will it just make the glass oily?
I would personally remove the glass coating with a polish since any type of degreaser on glass leave it very streaky and difficult to clean
I know this is an older video... I coated my car about 3 years ago with gyeon mohs... its shot... do you think this will remove what's left of my coating?
Yes! Will follow up with a very light polish take care of any last bit of coding and any mooring that the clay bar might have put on back to the paint
perfect! thanks for the reply!!
Will it remove high spots?
No you would have to polish off the high spot
Will Brake Buster affect the clear coat of the car?
As long as common sense is used no!
😂😂😂😂
question: detailer decided to apply a ceramic coat before removing the oxidation! Looks like crap!! what do I need to do?
Its got streaks and more streaks-
Coating needs to be removed and then paint needs to be polished to remove the oxidation!
@@48Detailing how can I remove it
Full wash, decontamination with a Claybar, and a one step polish!

What size sprayer is this? Can you do 1 whole car without refilling?
Whole car as in everything? No but you can cover your wheels with a few pumps!
@@48Detailing as in body panels! Is this the 2000 or 3000?
@@hayden199516 id say for the price get the krazar foamer, its the blue one. Its 40 bucns u.s. right now comparable to this one and foams equally as good made as good if not better and also is 2L. It will foam a entire car easily.
Bring a 1 gal jug of distilled water for 99 cents n ur soap obv with ya to refill if u need. I clean my truck, mind u a tacoma and never ever needed more.
If ur a mobile detailer with limited space or starting out its a great alternative to having all the expensive equipment.
You have so many options, just pick one that suits you the best.
There is this brand, ik, krazar, u cant go wrong with either.
Great videos something I need that I would like to try . What kind of sprayer are you using ?
Thank you! The sprayers are from Marolex you can find more info here: marolex.eu/
Is the alkaline the active ingredient for this one?
Yes it is an alkaline based cleaner! Forgive me in the video I believe I stated it was PH balanced that was my mistake!
@@48Detailing ph balanced it is, that doesn't mean (is not the same as) ph neutral though, just an fyi.
I thought it was harder to remove ceramic coating
The coating on the vehicle was a 2 year coating. It was on the car for over 2 and a half years... So it was on its last leg!
@@48Detailing Well...thats true.
@KBB Mojica Thanks
Hey there... first of thanks for uploading this video.
Now, my question for today.... is there anything else that you recomend.
Like i know dish soap can remove most or almost any waxes of the paint surface or even sealants but to remove ceramic coatings i need some remedy kinda solution.
I know we are talking professional here but i reside in India(north part of it). I hardly can get most of the chemicals here.
Buying online even is harder here.
I have a big polishing job coming 2morow.... and it's a new business so i didn't purchase every single thing as the market here sucks.
I really want polishing job little easier. Sure polishing gonna remove coating regardless but it's gonna be hard and time consuming so please help me out.
I hope it makes sense 😶
In your case polishing would be your only option, which is what you have to do on most 5+ year coatings anyways. I think everyone watches this video and thinks this is an end all be all solution to Coating removal but it's not. Sometimes you do have to polish!
@@48Detailing oh ok. Big thanks.
But the car is received for polishing or restoration is full of swirl marks and minor scratches.
And it was treated with some cheap coating 8 month back.
It's Mercedes E-class. Improper washing blah blah blah.
Here nobody teach customers in order to make more money if you know what i mean.
Anyways... thanks. Do suggest if there is anything else in mind
If your arm bands are removed you may be more genuine. That removal is also important
WD40 is the best
Beasleys, ceramic pro, owners pride, P&S inspiration, Gtechniq, Next Level Coatings, and SB3.....
Brake buster is not a degreaser and should never be used on the paint especially in a clay situation
Oh thanks for clarifying that let me call Dave Philips (chemist who made brake buster) and give him your expert info... Ive trained and spoke with these manufacturers one on one and brake buster can be used on paint!
Wow dude u couldnt have recorded that without fucking planes flying over every 30 seconds smh
