I am not sure if you have noticed this, but the former name of St. Christopher sounds like 'reprobus', the latin word for "rejected" or "cast out", which fits surprisingly well with his symbolic function in the story. Thanks from Spain for the great video and I hope the comic book will be even greater!

      1) There are two versions of the Summerian flood story, the younger usually compared to Genesis has only superficial similarities and there is no evidence of textual reliance. Genesis could even predate the older version, the most that could be said is that they both arise from the same near east tradition.
      2) The Church used the Greek Septuagint, which dated to around 200 BC, and from around 380 AD translated it into Latin. The Jesuits weren't founded until 1540, around about the same time that Christians started using the Masoretic (Hebrew) Text, but it was the Protestants who favoured the Masoretic Text. You've got that back to front!

Here's a fun fact for you: In Serbia each family has a patron saint whom they celebrate for their orthodox holiday "Slava" - many of them treat it as "bigger than Christmas". So the weird part? It's celebrated on different days depending on which Saint you have for your family. You inherit your family's patron saint through the head male of the household, so if the daughter marries a man, she now has his patron saint. Anyway - for "Slava" (translates to worship or praise or celebrate) about half of those who celebrate it are celebrating St. Christopher. It's such an important holiday for them that when they are hired they tell the employer which day they need off for "Slava". If you made it this far, congrats - now a very intriguing fact possibly related - I've heard rumors of Serbians who are in a group called the Dog Soldiers who actually appear with the head of a dog. Coincidence?

It's interesting. I've found myself drawn to St. Christopher as of lately. I've been going to RCIA at a parish here in my home town . . . which I will be moving away from immediately after confirmation. I mentioned to my "teacher" (I don't know the official name for those who teach catechumens) that I want St. Christopher to be my patron saint as I join the church. And now I've learned why I've been so drawn to him. Nice to know that he can protect me on my travels to a foreign land.

He cannot. Sounds to me, that like most Catholics, you have not read the entire bible or interpreted it for yourself. God is very clear that no man is holy or a saint. It is made super crystal clear that you are absolutely NOT supposed to pray to anyone but Father God, yahweh. Praying to saints and assigning sainthood to human beings is blasphemous and demonic. You are worshipping the image of a long dead human being who held no moral or spiritual authority whatsoever. The catholic church is a giant pagan cult made of of 97% good people that are mislead and have zero discernment or think for themselves. The priest is the worst, acting like he can forgive people or he can go to God on your behalf. All of that is very clearly discussed by Gods word and Jesus Christ. It is said to come directly to God the father, to have a direct communication with him/holy spirit/Jesus Christ and only thru him are you forgiven or saved. No man has the authority to forgive your sins for god and any man that puts himself between you and your personal relationship with God is a blasphemer going to hell if they do not break from their wicked ways of man and repent. I'm sorry you're so confused. Try a non denominational church and find true love, true forgiveness, and true joy. There is no such thing as paying penance.

Both died When the Israelites fought with the philistines and the Ark of the covenant was captured.
Eli, their father, also died when he heard the bad news.

The dog-headed monster is intriguing. People you might think of as marginal (geeks and nerds) seem to be repelled by it somewhat. I used to play Dungeons and Dragons but stopped a few years ago when it became overwhelmed by fragmentation and subversion from the old pulp heroism. The game provided various monster races for players to assume. These included cat-people, elves, turtles, dwarves, Giants, and even more bizarre types. However, they always avoided the dog men. I thought about it for a while, and I think that the reason might be because the dog is seen as a masculine symbol of loyalty and protection against bigger threats. It guards the margin. It is, as you've suggested before, the limit of wildness as tamed by civilization which acts as a kind of wall. The players steeped in the new culture are completely against all of these ideas. I think subconsciously, they are repulsed by these concepts.

    • @ryanshue6308
      @ryanshue6308 3 роки тому +10

Interesting analysis, rings true to me. There is a deep aversion in our modern culture to seeing that the margin has both danger and potential. The margin can only be good, in fact better than the center, yet at the same time "marginalizing" someone is one of the great sins of our age. It's a deeply incoherent ideology that guides our culture.

Could Saint Christopher and other "dog men" have had Hypertrichosis?
It makes sense that people would have treated someone with a condition like that as a savage, or animal.
So much so that it would have likely shaped his life in ways that made him appear as a wild beastly freak, and his own confidence and socially acceptable skills around others.

The Holy Martyr Christopher lived during the third century and suffered about the year 250, during the reign of the emperor Decius (249-251). There are various accounts of his life and miracles, and he is widely venerated throughout the world. Saint Christopher is especially venerated in Italy, where people pray to him in times of contagious diseases.
There are various suggestions about his descent. Some historians believe that he was descended from the Canaanites, while others say from the “Cynoscephalai” [literally “dog-heads”] of Thessaly.
Saint Christopher was a man of great stature and unusual strength. According to tradition, Saint Christopher was very handsome, but wishing to avoid temptation for himself and others, he asked the Lord to give him an unattractive face, which was done. Before Baptism he was named Reprebus [Reprobate] because his disfigured appearance. Even before Baptism, Reprebus confessed his faith in Christ and denounced those who persecuted Christians. Consequently, a certain Bacchus gave him a beating, which he endured with humility.
Because of his renowned strength, 200 soldiers were assigned to bring him before the emperor Decius. Reprebus submitted without resistance. Several miracles occurred along the way; a dry stick blossomed in the saint’s hand, loaves of bread were multiplied through his prayers, and the travellers had no lack thereof. This is similar to the multiplication of loaves in the wilderness by the Savior. The soldiers surrounding Reprebus were astonished at these miracles. They came to believe in Christ and they were baptized along with Reprebus by Saint Babylus of Antioch (September 4).
Decius also sentenced to execution the soldiers who had been sent after Saint Christopher, but who now believed in Christ. The emperor ordered that the martyr be thrown into a red-hot metal box. Saint Christopher, however, did not experience any suffering and he remained unharmed. After many fierce torments they finally beheaded the martyr with a sword. This occurred in the year 250 in Lycia. By his miracles the holy Martyr Christopher converted as many as 50 thousand pagans to Christ.

@@leloup-garou443 , Well On July 1st 2022, I was at a public target shooting range, here in East Tennessee, in what's called the Norris Watershed. I had planned a day to bring steaks and hamburgers to cook out there on a grill with my friend. What I thought was deer's walking behind the target stand there in the woods behind the embankment, was what sounded like someone walking parallel to someone else through the woods as I couldn't imagine why somebody would be behind those targets, but I noticed that shortly soon as I noticed the sounds from whatever it was they too seemed to notice me, as they suddenly both came to a silent stop, just inside of the woods, woodline. In the summer months here the woods are think with dense undergrowth that made seeing what ever they were impossible even though they may of only been about 20 yards from me.
I continued on with my day, and stayed there after dark, alone, listening to those sounds from day creatures transitioning to that of the stirring of night creatures as I started packing everything up, using a flashlight to see to pick up the shiny brass casings.
I heard what sounded to me as Bigfoot "Chatter" speach, but dismissed it as probably just being people down on the road below, even when I've seen Bigfoot before near the location I still wasn't sure what I was sensing at that time...
I've had a previous experience with a Dogman in South Carolina with another Researcher named Janice Carter. I knew of their abilities to cloak but wasn't fully understanding of it, or how it is they seem to have certain metaphysical abilities within their DNA.
I had some steak scraps I'd put hanging them from a tree limb from a bag and took like a mental picture in my mind and tried using what's called Mindspeaking, but it was not the same kind of experience or feelings I've had before with Bigfoot. I'd actually prayed to God, asking Him to "Make known unto me, their presence, even when nothing is seen, even when nothing is visible" ...as I've had experiences where a Bigfoot seeing them appear suddenly as if to say "Now you see me now you don't!"
I was standing beside my truck when suddenly the white cloud or column of smoke appeared to be spinning and twisting but the sides were perfectly cylindrical, and extended from the ground to about a foot over my head, close to 7 and a half feet, as I'm 6'3" tall. I saw this object move along side of my truck and passed right by me. The first thing I did was check to see if it was smoke from the grill but it was blowing in the opposite direction away... I couldn't explain this earlier experience, as anything other than that of a sign from God I'd asked for. I began worshipping and praising God for the perceived sign, and wonder as an answer to my prayers. I had a different mindset at the moment seeing this Dogman, as I started to leave when suddenly this Black haired Dogman appeared right in front of the hood of my truck... I left out other details previous about my Mindspeaking conversations over what to eat , and not to eat from the grill of hamburgers I'd sprayed break cleaner or carburetor cleaner on . I'd told them to leave it for the ants... As I jokingly thought apparently all anyone needs to see a Dogman is bring A1 steak sauce... I don't know why but a TV commercial idea popped into my head as a funny picture images of a Dogman visiting a picnic, as this was actually happening to me... It seems comical at the time, but I was honestly in total shock and surprised by the sighting seeing the light from my headlights reflecting in his beady eyes! It wasn't until I pull off the Highway afterwards at home, did the fear actually hit me, to realize the whole thing had been set up , of a kind of test of my fear of them, and of my reaction, as there was a second Dogman I'd realized later who was standing right behind me who I never saw...
I was amazed also at how quickly after just having this sighting I became fascinated with a bug, on the gate that I had to get out to unlock to let myself out... As it was like I'd said to myself, looking at a strange stick like insect, " You Do Realize? Don't you, that there's a Dogman somewhere just 80 yards or so behind you. " I just felt this kind of feeling or situational awareness of the Dogman at that time, that he was getting those scraps I'd left for the Bigfoot... I thought afterwards replaying the image over and over 1000 times, in my mind, What would of happened if I'd gotten out to try and shoot this Dogman, or if I hadn't stopped there while seeing him standing in front of my truck... as I spoke through telepathy, or Mindspeaking to him, saying "Well , I guess you've had time to move on, I'll just be going now on my way now"... but what if I'd tried running him over? What would of had happened to me?... I realized there was a second Dogman there , ready to take me from this world! That's when the anxiety attack with hyperventilating hit me after making it home safely only to nearly realize everything that had happened there that night, had to of happen perfectly for me to still be here! Perhaps the Pillar Of Cloud, was more of a sign of God's own appearing to them aswell... I've even thought to consider

I just realized: there's a scene in Carl Jung's Red Book that's exactly this.
Long story short (with paraphrase): in some unspecified visionary state, Jung meets Gilgamesh ("Izdubar" in the text, based on a contemporary mistransription) and poisons him with the science of the "western lands." Izdubar is wounded as if by a snake, but also like a snake, Jung provides the healing remedy. "You are real, but real like a fantasy is real." This makes Gilgamesh as light as air, which makes Jung able to wrap him in an egg and carry him to be healed in the western lands. There, after three days, Gilgamesh (now clearly referred to as God) is reborn in glory. Then, exactly like the Christopher story, Gilgamesh vanishes and leaves Jung alone.
Jung was Christopher here: in the text, he bore God across the flood of modern nihilism. He's God's Dog. (i.e. Enkidu to Gilgamesh).

In the book of Jasher you can see the importance of how ones name was in the pre flood world
It’s almost a type of energy field created by the Constant repetition of the sounds that is resonated by the name that one unconsciously is moulded by.
      A mystery of sound

The Ancient Egyptians had a well fleshed out mythology of the dog-headed man as guide into battle, the afterlife, into the sky, into victory, often by boat across and down rivers. Both Anubis and Wepwawet are found in this form but Wepwawet much more as he was called opener of the ways. Very interesting to see this imagery immediately following the exodus from Egypt.

Hello. I would recommend books or videos from Dr. Brant Pitre. The argumentation for the papacy is very solid. I think the primacy of Peter, together with the citation from Isaiah 22 about the keys of the Kingdom,at least make the papacy reasonable, and hard to explain the meaning of Christ giving the keys to Peter and denying the papacy.

So hear me out...I just had a "simbolism happens" moment.
I stream boxing through youtube in one of the biggest boxing channel in spanish. This next saturday we will have one of the most exciting fights of the year, Caleb Plant v Canelo Alvarez. "Unification" is boxing terms is something new; it's when a fighter defeats all the current belt holders of a division (WBA, WBO, WOC, Ring Magazine, etc) to become the biggest name on that weight division (in this case 168 lbs)
You named Caleb as an outsider that brings unification, Canelo is set to win the match since he's the favorite by far, but the fact is, an unification will only occur if Caleb accepts the fight (which he did)
Caleb is basically unknown fir casuals fans but some say this "unknown dog" can give him some trouble...

Symbolism happens in Christopher Columbus! Jonathan, I wanted to bring to your attention how the main elements you describe from the story of St Christopher do happen very clearly in the story of Christopher Columbus. My guess is that you know this already but you want to focus on Biblical and Christian stories.
The elements that I see most obviously is his name (Christopher) and the fact that he crossed the Atlantic and found a new world. His name, Columbus, actually means “dove” which I wouldn’t see as a coincidence considering the dove finding dry land in the Noah story. Most of Columbus’ crew were inmates, which you could relate to those at the edge of society. They were sent by the Spanish crown because it was a sure death. The trick that is played is also pretty clear. They were sent to surely die in this mission across the Atlantic, but they actually ended up living and living better than ever before. More importantly, it was because of Columbus that Christ was shared with the New World.
I hope this makes sense, and I’d be interested in knowing what you think!

You don’t even need to leave the first book of the Bible to find the phonetic connections between names and concepts.
Adam calls his wife Eve (mother of all living) in Genesis 3 because it sounds like the Hebrew word for living. In Genesis 4, Eve calls her son Cain because she had “gotten a man with the help of the Lord,” and Cain sounds like the Hebrew word for gotten.
Also, at the end of Genesis 4, Eve bore Seth after having lost Abel to Cain and says “God has appointed for me another offspring.” Seth sounds like the Hebrew words for “he appointed.”
I don’t think your analysis that ancient peoples would connect Caleb and Kenizzite with Cain and Canaanites was a stretch at all from that perspective.

My understanding is that the λόγοι are the natures underlying the entire world. "Treeness" "fishness" "dogness" "softness" "hardness", etc. The categories that make understanding the world possible rather than just a collection of unrelated atoms. The basis of meaning, in other words. Christ is the Λόγος, the "Meaning" that underlies all the lower "meanings". I think "meaning" is one of the best modern English words to translate λόγος, even in modern Greek, which I only know a little of, the word has quite a range of meaning. In the plural it means "words", in the singular it can mean a "speech" but it very commonly means "reason" as "for this reason" για αυτό το λόγο. That Greek word is very rich in meaning.

The early medieval Anglo-Saxons and Irish both have a version of the story where St Christopher is a dog-headed man, the Anglo-Saxon version was in the Nowel Codex.
In later European tradition he was a giant, which in Christian tradition also makes him a hybrid, i.e. a monster.
Nobody thinks he was literally a giant (or just a tall man, that's modern silliness) or dog-headed man, and nobody thought in the middle ages either because they weren't silly materialist.

Cain (acquired) and Kenetizes (tribe of hunters) share the root Q-N, which according to Jeff Benner imply 'gathering seeds', or gathering that which is scattered around in order to build something (like a nest).
Canaan, on the other hand, has a different root, K-N. Nevertheless, the difference is that Q-N is gathering in a general sense, while K-N is gathering as a bundle, a handful (because the ancient K was the picture of a hand).
    So, pictographically, makes total sense.
