Riley: "Who get´s iPads right now?"
Me: Thinking about literally everyone at my university rocking the latest iPads
In my university, people use one of three types of devices: a MacBook, a Surface product, or an iPad
danny boy A base spec ipad, paperlike screen protector, apple pencil and a relatively cheap full cover case from ebay. It is dead silent obviously, lasts all day, fits between the textbooks and has a camera for digitalizing papers.
danny boy Yes, it would, and I’m sure plenty of tech-savvy people do that. From my experience most students want something that’s similar to their iPhone and easy to use, though, even if it costs a bit more. Of course, plenty of people still have the older light-up-Apple logo MacBooks too.
danny boy why every pc fanboy recommends thinkpads? Is like recommending A Hummer over a Sports car or something. It’s not the same! Not addressed to the same type of people
Should take the samsung tablet

Apple: It's a computer
So it's a PC?
Apple: *angry face*
So it's a Mac?
Apple: *angry face*
They literally have an ad based on NOT calling it a computer
Apple is confused themselves on whether the iPad is a computer or not. It is a computer, just like a laptop, desktop, smartphone, smart-watch, even a calculator.
VanMan 23 Well, if a computer is something that computes, then a cat is a computer, and a flower might be one, so I guess the ipad counts as one :)
@@YesToCookies23 If it is built in this century and it can run Doom (whether or not by jailbreaking or hacking) it is definitely a computer (computers from the previous century have different criteria). So a graphical calculator or a digital camera is one.
😠
The Dbrand skin represents RGB rainbow barf. Lol

1:33 reading that text exchange was one of the best quarantine laughs I've had yet!
Have to agree. Funniest thing I've seen all week
7:33 most students will get one. in some classes, more than half of students use ipads over "normal" laptops
I just bought the 16” MacBook Pro. I have a 2017 iPad Pro 12.9, and I’m pretty sure I can skip this gen, but I’m happy they’re updating it!
Also, to make a point, Apple has released their iPads Pro in tandem with similarly prices MacBooks Air for two generations now. I think it’s totally reasonable to compare them, since the same person probably wouldn’t buy both. A person would either buy all Pro or all Air in my mind.
I was experimenting with Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad support on my Gen 6 iPad and they both work about as they would on a Mac. On a trackpad you can use the swipe commands and they all work perfectly. Cursor movement is very smooth and precise as well. I was impressed enough to order the 12.9” iPad Pro.
Technically... phones and tablets ARE computers... they just use a different lay out compared to most regular laptop desktop computers.
the word you're looking for is form factor
No shit sherlock
In the classical definition of a computer, I agree. In terms of it's suitability as the only productivity machine for a serious user, it's still nowhere near the level it should be.
@Totex Good luck finding a good replacement for serious video editing programs like Adobe Premier.
@@xXRealXx I always hear people talking about video editing, and needing to build an editing rig. Who are all these people editing video, and where is all the video they're editing? absolutely not
@Henbush Then you clearly weren't doing anything intensive or professional on your laptop.
Sj Sh oh yeah right all people on earth are programmers and pros
@@sjsh5837 a good ipad like the one in the video can be a good pc if you mainly use a pc to browse internet, write text, draw, read articles etc... Not everyone need a pc for 3d rendering or gaming.
it can replace a pc you only use for checking facebook, your mail and browsing the internet but not for the pcmr
When it starts running a desktop OS like Mac OS or Windows 10 then we'll start talking
AR is used a lot now in manufacturing and servicing the equipment. It helps with training new people into servicing the machines.
Honestly I stand to believe that most people (the average person) would do perfectly fine using an iPad, or to a lesser degree a Chromebook, as their main computer. Almost everybody I know uses their laptops as Amazon shopping machines or stream boxes. Even just browsing the web and being on social media is basically the same as in a desktop environment.
Computers are just a faster way to screw things up.
As someone who has used a Surface and an iPad, I think Apple nailed the mouse support. It would have been easy to take the easy way out and just slap a traditional mouse cursor on the OS and call it a day the way that android and windows did. But the issue is that windows is not optimized for touch, and android is not optimized for a cursor. It doesn't *feel* right. This cursor implementation is WAY better imo. People making fun of it need to give it a shot first.
Android has supported mice and cursors for years. Also long press was the equivalent to right click since you can't right click on a touch screen.
The mouse support isn’t tied to the new iPad. It was just a software update that came along at a similar time to the release of the new iPad

Conman_123 somehow I zoned out for that bit. Cool

Please everybody,
Welcome Team Apple to the year of 2015 🎉.
Introducing features just 5 years shy after the competition.
GOOD JOB TIM
P.S. That's definitely how Steve would've wanted it...
I love how dbrand loves the people they sponsor but when it comes to actual support for us normal people , they could give a crap , even if the product is defective , speaking from personal experience on multiple occasions , basically was just told that I did it wrong despite the fact I’ve done stuff like this many times to my devices and my wife’s devices.
It’s a sticker... did it not stick? Or was it not cut correctly? Cause that would be the only way it would be defective
I've had very pleasant experiences with them. And their shipping is exceptional. The hard packaging and sleeves, that the stickers are shipped in, are amazing. (That's where most of the cost of the sticker is.)
Omar Mata wasn’t cut right and the skin was the camo edition and the camouflaged part started just peeling off and separating from the part that sticks to the phone , I really wish I could attach a screenshot but basically when I asked them about it they said the layers are very thin and this type of thing is inevitable lol , i has the skin maybe 2-3 weeks tops and I have an office job , my phone is literally just sitting on table 99% of the time 🤦♂️
I backed up dbrand grip when it was getting crowdfunded , received that and the bumper cracked upon installation. List goes on and on , honestly I’ve given them plenty of chances but so far it has just ended in disappointment.
Andrew Delashaw see the response I made to Omar , the buying experience is very nice , but as soon as you need any sort of help or have a problem with the product you are on your own, they don’t care since they already have your money 🤷♂️
I don't know what better, Linus flexing on the Dbrand rep and asking for a color they don't even sell, or Dbrand being an absolute bro and making the best pink unicorn skin I've ever seen.
I've been trying hard to use my ipad pro 12.9/2019 as something more than just a big heavy tablet after I'd finished with it for an art project (Procreate is great). The mouse support is much better now, but the files app still needs a lot of work. As does usb drive support. I can't even pick my own app to play a movie off a thumb drive.
And I'm this close to get the Magic keyboard just to give the ipad pro another shot, but it seems the damn thing is super heavy.
Its nice having something that slim and light
Thats what she said
For the price of the "magic!!!!" keyboard you can buy: A proper rgb mouse, mechanical keyboard and a OK monitor | A used or new PC for 350$ | Video card | Food for a month | Desk | Pay monthly bills | Renovations | TV | HD DVD player and some movies etc....
Alex Tud the keyboard is for people who can buy all that stuff at the same time.
What kind of renovations are you doing for $350? Painting a room? That's not really renovations though.
Yea that HD DVD player sure is gonna come in handy...

I’ve used both a mouse and the Magic Trackpad and the trackpad is a much better option. It feels natural and runs amazingly smooth. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, non-Apple trackpads have some connection issues and even Apples original trackpad isn’t as good. But if you have a Magic Trackpad 2 lying around, it’s a really good option.
Air is so advanced that it's used by NASA on the International Space Station
I'm not really an Apple person per say but I do use a 2018 iPad Pro 11 inch (I had second hand from a friend for dirt cheap when they upgraded to the 12 but still) as a way to view and edit photos on the go. The great screen mixed with plenty of power for Lightroom/Photoshop makes it a really good tool for doing quick edits. I wouldn't replace my main 3950x machine obviously but for most of my daily tasks it handles everything quite well. After I machined a aluminum laptop dock with keyboard and pass through port out of some scraps I had laying around I rarely take a full laptop out with me unless I know I'll need the power/options from one.
*The A12Z is NOT an upgrade!*
Based on the info available it’s exactly the same as the A12X in terms of architecture. It's just a higer binned version with 1 extra graphics core unlocked!
And also with 6 gb of RAM, which is good, but doesn’t make much of a difference unless if you put a bunch of layers on Procreate, use a bunch of tabs on Safari, or do other types of heavy work.
Still higher graphics performance, plus increased ram and storage
What would you call that then? Improvement?
So... It's upgraded. "Higher binned" and "extra graphics core" mean exactly that... An upgrade. Lol
Riley is pure gold. I'm so glad he is in a lot more videos now, this is awesome.
I think they're just a bit too expensive. If they were the same price but included the keyboard & pencil then I would probably be using one rn. Even if they were a couple hundred more including accessories I might be able to justify it. As it is, I bought a Lenovo yoga 2 in 1 instead.
Matt Mellor its a price of a monitor stand. what a great deal!
Yeah. $130 for the pencil, $1000-1500 for the iPad (depending on storage size), and $250 for the keyboard= $1380-1880. LOL... Riiight. And you can only use Apple apps, no upgradable storage, and Apple's anti-repair culture. Eff that. Even my Surface Pro has a micro SD slot that I put 256 GB card in for extra storage. Even though I'll never use up the 256 GB of on-board storage.
just get some wheels!
There you go, you're a smart consumer and chose something that better fits your needs! Well done!
@Matt Mellor I have booth a lenovo yoga 520 and a base spec ipad 2018, for notetaking I prefer the ipad, it just works better, also is lighter and has much better battery life but I can see your point, for some tasks the full desktop os is just better.
I love how this channel has no ads ad is so carefree. Keep it up guys.
Apple: This is a computer.
System admins: Nope.
I know AR on iPads gets used a decent bit in medical schools, at least around me. They'd give a group of students their own iPad with the AR software loaded, and then they could walk around with and interact with organs and such.
Some of the schools are heading towards VR, but for the time being it's a lot easier to just give 20 kids iPads for an hour than trying to get 20 kids setup in a VR experience
Riley thanks dbrand the same way I’d thank my aunt for a Christmas present
3:29 I like how he says "Hallo". =D
2:30 Is there a bendgate situation again with this model? I can't see why there wouldn't be. I got an uber case (lots of support, it's basically a hard-covered book and hard plastic around the iPad) for my iPad Pro and its kept it fine, but if I go with a new one down the road the fancy keyboard is tempting.
Yes it bends very easily. Everything apple pro did a jerryrigeverything like review and bent it and he said that it bent really easily
@@whathandleisnttaken Good to know, sadness, care and the correct satchel I guess is the answer.
I've had my iPad Pro 11" for over a year and I've gone caseless and put it in the laptop sleeve in my backpack. Barely a nick in the chassis and no bend at all. It's not really an issue!
@@mikailkraft1466 unless you accidentally sit on it.

Wait why is Linus working from home but Riley isn't?
My mind: "Because Linus is over 60"
Me: "ooh that makes sense"
The trackpad support will mostly be so you don't have to raise your hands to touch the screen while typing.
That LiDAR sensor is actually really useful (for some people), for example animators can use this to make relatively good motion capture, not to mention that this technology is pretty much the only way to get a mo-caped face. A lot of tedious work goes into facial animations that can be reduced or cut out using a setup like this.
You have to really think different to be excited about mouse support on something in 2020
$7.99 and $9.99!?! I'm getting one of EACH... for everyone I know. Even the UPS delivery men who dump packages in the dirt, in the rain, halfway up my driveway... since the pandemic. Don't see that happening to my neighbors.
Quote from apple cult follower in 2019 "why would we ever want a trackpad for our ipad like a computer. Its touchscreen. That would be so dumb"
6 months later... "apple brought the trackpad to tablets for the first time ever. They are so smart"
Thing I love most is anyone with a lick of sense has been asking for a MacBook with a touchscreen for years.
i am a pc guy but i am a professional artist and i love my ipad pro! I am excited to get this ipad pro so i dont have to carry a laptop and an ipad in my bag with separate chargers, and emailing myself images that i drew on my ipad to my laptop when i just want to use photoshop with a real mouse.
5:43 That's cool, just paired my MX Ergo trackball with my iPad Pro 2018, but now back to using it on my desktop.
You can map keys of the mouse Like task manager that makes it alot better.
in the integration of AR is for the growth of Custom made devices using 3D printing, so rather than buying a Dell XPS 15 and an Artec 3D scanner for 1000 grand you could buy a new iPad and integrate a full system with it.
i hope Linus doesn't get Backstreet Boys Tour tickets
You guys already had the last iPad. I don’t think it was worth getting the new one just to test the LiDAR since that’s the only real change.
I mean they got it for free.
I mean there’s a few more changes to it than just the LiDAR

3:28 Im shocked at how well he pronounced 'hallo'
Not tryin to be a hater, but this review is.... gahh. I don't wanna sound harsh, so here's my attempt at honesty while remaining positive:
Alex is in his element reviewing laptops. Anthony is in his element talking about genius programming sh** and whatever linux is. There is a specific audience for tablets (albeit a middle aged, quirky one) and if I were a member, I could tell you that this doesn't help me much in terms of learning the device, how it fits in the day-to-day realm of usefulness or even striking my interest. MKBHD's iPad Pro review is a good example of this device done right - and you guys put out fantastic reviews mostly. I just don't feel like you care about the product very much here.
Although I wouldn't be surprised if that was the intention anyway.
I kinds agree, but I think this channel is mostly just goofy unboxings anyway. Riley said they'll do a full review on LTT later.
I've had a surface book 2 for about a year a half now, used it a lot for coding, hand writing notes in college and watching shows and youtube. I've gotten to the point where if I need to do anything serious like cad or rendering I just go on my desktop so I think this is going to be the replacement that tips the scales for me so that I never carry a laptop again... we'll see soon enough I'm sure
Does it still snap?
Yep
6:44 of course he had to remind us that he was Canadian lol
It's pretty odd how Google got rid of their time of flight sensor (which some people defended by saying camera based AR was good enough) and now Apple adds one. It'll be pretty nice for people who want to 3D scan things that's for sure
Will we see a day when Apple stops bundling a charger and a cable with their devices?
It's just a matter of courage
we definitely will.
Why do you give them ideas?
@@AhaanM :D

The experience will be better if you're using a trackpad instad if a mouse.
That mouse has a darkfield sensor, if you've never used one I'd understand you not understanding his very appropriate choice of mouse. It literally works on anything, like anything. Really. Perfectly. Anything. Perfectly.
@@JawKnee86 I believe he meant the cursor snapping to UI elements makes more sense on trackpads than a mouse.
...but why the F would you use stupid trackpad on touchable device??
@@raptorswire7212 why would you use a mouse then? Many do, I do too. Except most don't use stupid trackpads, but normal ones instead.
Raptor Swire That’s because the trackpad is easier to reach when you’re typing on the keyboard.
LOL Just got a Surface pro 4 with the type cover and pen for $300. This ipad with pencil and keyboard is almost $1500!? DATS CRAZY
Everhigh I mean...that is a 5 year old device bruh....
Different devices for different people :D
The apple pencil, per everything ive heard, is superior to the surface pen for artists. Artists are probably one of the larger markets for iPad Pro's, or atleast thats who apple thinks is buying them according to their website. Consequently, it'd just be used as a drawing tablet and a keyboard would be seldom used it at all. So, $1500 becomes $1100, which sounds CRAZY until you peruse over to their main competition (Wacom) and find out an cintiq pro 13" drawing tablet is $800, and that's just a display with no computer attached. Thats $300 left for a computer matching the A12Z for CPU and GPU horsepower (~6700k + iGPU), and a decent 4k 60fps/1080p 120FPS camera...
Sounds price competitive to me...
You know you can turn the snapping off, right?
My old Asus Transformer Prime Android tablet from 9-10 years ago had mouse support and trackpad support (it came with a detachable keyboard with an additional battery built in). Microsoft Surface Pro tablets have Pens, mouse support, detachable keyboards. Apple is a bit late to the party here
"the annoying iPad mouse"
When he said "Brilliant!" I thought it was a segway 😂
Yeah can't talk about it. To get those custom keyboards for maximum clack sounds cost upward of 500 bucks. You can't compare a high end accessory for the Mac lineup and not compare to high end stuff on the PC side.
I like having virtualization and bootcamp. So no this can't replace MY computer.
However, for people happy with MacBooks (13 inch), this could be a viable replacement for some of them. Like college students.
As a member of the under represented CAD user space, I would appreciate having mouse snaps on web page links
Maybe the reason why the mouse is jumping on the return and froward keys on Safari is because Apple intended the mouse function for disabled people so by sticking to buttons it makes their lives easier
Added support for a mouse ? Nice, these things are almost like computers now.
If you turn on assistive touch, you can use the mouse as a finger emulator like in the old version of iPadOS mouse support on top of the new functionality you get in this version of mouse support. Also, you can customize the mouse’s functionality and the cursor itself in accessibility settings. It’s not perfect, but the mouse support on the iPad works better than I anticipated. It looks different compared to a traditional cursor, but it’s still functional.
Ipad is for people that pretend to work
Just because you can’t find a use for it doesn’t mean that everybody is as clueless as you
I got the Magic Trackpad 2 myself over using a mouse. It definitely feels the most like using the iPad normal but from a distance.
The skin was probably for April fool's
Rene Soriano did you even read the Chat on the Front Side of the iPad 0:39?

You can turn that "snapping" to buttons off in the settings. If you use a MagicTrackpad2 instead of a regular mouse you will have the ability to use some gestures which make the experience a bit more fluently.

So you pair a mouse and keyboard to the iPad and it suddenly becomes a computer? Samsung been using this trick for years on their phones and tablets which also uses the DeX operating system which gives you the feel of a real desktop computer. You can also connect USB hard drives.
