Ben Schofield Yeah, he‘s just so damn funny.

You were asking who this is for, and it’s for me! I’m an artist/animator, and I have a 2018 Mac mini as my main computer. I use my iPad Pro as a second display when editing videos, use it as a mobile computer on the go, and use it as a drawing display with Adobe Animate or any other program that’s not for iPad OS. Most drawing displays are more expensive then an iPad, so with an iPad I have a drawing display AND a mobile computer
Exactly! I have my iPad Pro for the exact same purpose!

The reason why the pointer glides is because of a setting that it on automatically. It’s called trackpad inertia. You can change it in accessibility and then pointer controls
Gaming Republic cant find it though
Why is that even a feature?

Wintersoldier2005 it’s actually quite nice with the pointer transforming into the buttons
A feature only mac users could love. I think this is a great product though. It makes more sense to me than any laptop, but then I've never liked laptops 'cos they're just too heavy and clunky for their claimed use case.
I use my iPad as my primary work device. The main thing I do is handwrite on documents and keep them digitally stored on this iPad. There are times my work requires me to actually type documents and my works’ computers are too slow, so I use my iPad. I bought this keyboard and am excited about having a trackpad for them few Excel documents I use and being able to easily remove the iPad from the case to use it as a tablet.
I am the type of use-case who would buy this set up over a MacBook
I have the first gen iPad pro with the keyboard and really love it even 5 yrs later. Definitely would upgrade to this new setup. You have to use it regularly to understand the appeal honestly. It handles all the light computing tasks that i needed like email, document editing, web browsing and media consumption, in short, 95% of daily computing tasks. If the office suite was the exact same as the windows desktop version, then there wouldn't be a need for a laptop for me.

I'd love to know if you were running Minecraft on the iPad/iOS can you use keyboard and mouse input?!
Karl Smith I don’t think so
krishnugget Minecraft on iOS has mouse and kb settings in game but I don’t have a BT mouse to try it out
you can
Prolly has hella mouse accel and it'll feel terrible
I installed Minecraft and tested it right now. Using a mouse to look around in Minecraft on iOS is not the same experience as on desktop. You have to hold the mouse button to look around. Only some keyboards work in Minecraft, the smart keyboard folio from Apple does not. So I guess the new Magic Keyboard wouldn’t work either. But in theory, most of the software is ready, Mojang has to fix some current incompatibilities.
The trackpad offers a lot of the shortcuts that Riley missed, three finger swipe up goes home, or you can just swipe down a couple times. You get the hang of it after a little while
I'll tell you whose buying:
Business Execs at c-level who want a no nonsense email and word machine with the capability to view media files and thats portable and securely adapts to their networking environment.
Old people who can't be arsed tinkering with windows or whose kids/grandkids don't want to be their tech support
Artists, students and creators looking for a drawing pad, note pad and mini media editing solution on the go
I’ll be honest, the reason I got the case+iPad is because I want to have an “entertainment machine” and then when I need to go get some work done, I can put the case in and do some constructive work. I couldn’t just lug around a massive laptop constantly. I just like how I can go from laptop to tablet so quickly.
Yeah it’s for people who want an iPad and appreciate the extra versatility. $300 is cheaper than $1000 for a whole additional laptop. This is for those who want an iPad first and a laptop second
I paid 1k for the iPad plus pro keyboard last year, and I really do enjoy it. Super light and convenient for school.
I bought one for notetaking and entertaining and now I am able to use it as my pc as well. I bought the Brydge Keyboard and do Windows Remote Control. Now I´m able to do everything that I could do with my pc at home, besides gaming, if I have decent internet.
the galaxy tab s6 is better and cheaper and more of a computer because of dex
o I had the Tab S6 before and the Note taking was horrible. Most app didn’t even use the active pen so your palm would draw on the canvas. And it couldn’t do more too.
I use an iPad in the cockpit, while flying. Running apps like ForeFlight (most pilots do the same). A keyboard would add extra function out side of flying; however, for everyone else I am not sure what its for.
I'm sure lots of professions could find a niche use for an ipad (or other tablets) like you did. I'm a photographer, I'm not sure I'd use one to edit photos (though it seems attractive in some instances) but I could use one to show clients the photos we're taking while on the studio or something similar.
Honestly, even for someone who just uses an iPad daily for recreational or productivity, but needs to do occasional work in Excel or Word, I could see this product making sense. The main issue for me is price. With that said, sometimes you just allow yourself to spend more for convenience.
Very good review! 😎

@Mario the problem is the ipad itself man, the keyboard is just a cherry on top of a weird decision by apple, why the hell get yourself an ipad pro 2020 instead of a macbook? The only reason i might undesrtand might be the apps or the size, but then again, get yourself an older ipad, it works just as well, i have an ipad air from 2014 and it is still pretty good

About iPads: It all comes down to the workflow you’re used to. I’ve always had a windows laptop for work and 13” MacBook Pro for personal and creative stuff, but the iPad Pro 11” I got in 2018 totally destroyed my MacBook Pro for my own creative workflow. It handled photo and light video editing much better, didn’t need an extra drawing tablet, was much easier to carry around, and was just WAY more fun to use (which actually boosted my productivity). It’s not for everyone, but it is great to use after some getting used to, and works wonders for myself. The common mistake people make is not being able to imagine that something might work for others, just because it doesn’t work for them (or they’re not willing to spend any time to learn about it).
By the way I think the keyboard is too expensive for anyone buying a 2020 model. I bought it for my 2018 11” though, and I think it’s a good buy for people who own the previous generation.
I hate how there's not Logic or even something similar on the iPad, the closest thing us musicians can use is GarageBand but it's nowhere near close to a useful DAW for mobile work.
The funny thing is that I use my iPad Pro for everything else with my job and the one thing that I liked about macOS can't be done... it's so frustrating.
Gruvve I totally agree, fortunately my creative work does not really involve commercial/professional stuff, so there are a lot of cheap and high quality software on iOS (procreate, launchpad, LumaFusion, Lightroom, etc) I can use. If I needed to do more I’d definitely run into obstacles soon. Hopefully the introduction of the new keyboard means their gonna take this even more seriously from now.
Awesome Video!!!!
This was one of the most fun reviews i hv ever watched.. instant subscribe !
“Whose buying this?”
With the keyboard case, I can do my job completely on an iPad. Emails, Microsoft office, and there’s even a IOS version of our company’s portal. It’s much more enjoyable to use day to day than a laptop.
Huh, you can actually use a skin with the keyboard, somehow I’ve never seen that in any other video. That’s useful
No more need to peel the skin off from my fingers when typing with a keyboard! \o/

I just got the 2020 iPad Pro, I got it because I’m a musician (opera singer) and I love that I’m carrying around 1 iPad vs all of the scores I’m working on. It’s super convenient for me, because I can perform concerts with the iPad as well. Just my 2 cents. First time watcher!

To answer your question about who would use this. People in the construction industry regularly use iPads over computers because they are more portable and smaller ie the 11 inch one. As well as easily compatible with cellular data onboard. And having the keyboard allows the use of them for emails and eliminates the need for a laptop at all thus saving a cost of having 2 devices

I like it. I had the Logitech lighted keyboard on my iPad Pro...love it!!!
I have been using it for a little over a week and I can say that it works really well (better than my expectations). The worst part is that you can’t open it with one hand. But there really isn’t a time where I need to open it super quickly so it’s personally a non-issue. It has been extremely nice having commands and a nice keyboard to type with. The keyboard is much better than the smart keyboard imo. It’s really sturdy in the places you need it to be and I like that the keyboard is not bendy and soft like the Smart Keyboard. The price is a tough sell and if you have the Smart Keyboard I think you can live without it.

Being able to separate the screen/tablet part from the keyboard part makes it very handy for air travel (remember when we used to do that!?), as the screen/tablet part counts as a handheld device for takeoff & landing, whereas laptops have to be stowed.
They start with touch. Then added pencil support for artists/designers/note taking. Then mouse and keyboard for anything that benefits for rapid relative navigation (mouse) while using a keyboard. Perfect for office apps

@@Nik6644 wouldn't it be awesome if you could use the Apple pencil on Microsoft
I actually disagree. Before anything this is all my opinion but for me the software on surface laptops just didn’t really hit home for me. The trackpad gestures are big reason the thing turns into laptop. Once you learn to glide and multitask with trackpad+shortcuts youll realize the power this thing has. Three fingers move between apps and two to grab objects, and one to move the cursor. turn the trackpad setting on for “tap to click” and youre in business. I love mine.
Riley secretly loves this but can't bring himself to admit it.
Sometimes I feel like Apple, Microsoft, and Samsung are all copying the worst parts of each other's products. This iPad setup looks like it is trying to compete with the surface pro, but only in the form factor that doesn't exactly sit as well on the lap as the form factor iPad set out to simplify, yet the iPad has the better form factor and what it really should be doing is just being able to run full iOS on a tablet.
Apple deleted the headphone jack, Samsung followed suit.
Microsoft saw that Samsung dex was pretty neat so they made the surface pro x and put that arm chip in there.
My advice to the big 3 is to just stop that.
seriously, just stop. lol
i also feel that samsung copied iphone's boxy camera layout (the s10 was a great layout for us ocd folks, why try to fix it?)
and i feel that they should be more focused with technology such as air drop on samsung and microsoft, full os on tablets, and features that make for a better user experience.
i imagine a world where one day we will have a console with nintendo's functionality, but the performance of a high end pc.
i shouldn't have to choose between key features or quality.
I got my Galaxy Tab S6 with the keyboard / trackpad cover free for it. It's a special use category, but I love it. You can use it on public transport, much easier to whip out than a laptop, also battery lifetime, size. (I own a very small laptop too, but that thing is dreadful to use on the train). It has its own shell around it, so it's not like shoving the naked laptop in your backpack when the train arrives or something.
It's also great for making notes in class, taking pictures of the blackboard, drawing or adding things onto those pictures , doing actual homework with Samsung dex and a mobile hot-spot, or getting work done. And at home, or when you want to not study on the train, you got netflix. There's a market for a product like it, as the Samsung one is ideal for my usage. But Apple blows up the price too much.
A smart folio with a Magic Trackpad combination costs less and gets u a slim yet practical work space
