  • This modification is a great alternative for the original equipment inlet tubes that connect to the intake box. These oem inlet tubes are made from a cloth like material that breaks down over time.
    Parts and tools needed:
    -2x Spectre flex air duct hose (part number 8741)

    -Razor or box cutter
    Side cutters

    Appreciate guys posting diy stuff. I'm a YT mechanic and these types of videos really help me with my e550 coupe.
    Pls don't think I'm a hater....but dude, clean your engine bay.

      I was gonna say the same thing. I use Sonax engine cleaner (what MB uses to find leaks) with a toothbrush (or regular brush) to get the thick oils stains if any, and Sonax plastic detailer. Slow water to rinse, then a leaf blower at low speed to dry. Remove the bottom tray, and spray the same down there, as the dirt from the top will land there. Then spray the plastic detailer. I removed the ECU first, and bagged the exposed wires.

    I did the exact same to my 12 E550 last year....holding up really well so far. I used some rtv to seal the rubber couplings to the stock couplings. great mod.

    Right on bro!! I hate those raggedy stock ones Mercedes created for these cars, Feel free to stop by and check out how I upgraded mine almost year ago with the intake tubes I used.

    The cloth adds filtration.. its not hard to see why the engineers went that direction. Pretty sure it impedes the flow of dirt and debris better than smooth plastic

    You really should expand the tubes because when compressed, the inner diameter gets reduced by over a 1/4". It won't make a huge difference in performance, but it'll look much better and smarter.

    You did great job, do you put glue or only plug and play?

    • @brianRED
      @brianRED  2 роки тому +1

      No glue. They pretty much sit within the groove

    For the 30 bucks it only came with enough to run one side the hose is long enough but we still need two more couplings

    Maybe fiberglass with some partially flexible glue.. and an old pipe as a reference...

    Unfortunately this ribs create a restriction on the flow. Try to find something smooth.

    • @brianRED

      They don't really make a difference. I would save your money and get some drop in filters. My car dynoed the same with or without it.

    will someone eventually show how to remove turbo air pipes on this engine. Without removing them it is almost impossible to do any DIY job on front of the engine.

    • @MercedesMechanic
      @MercedesMechanic 2 роки тому

      Its easy, there is one Loom Tie clamp that holds the tube on the turbo intake below and then one of the clamps that hold tube to the air filter housing. Just make sure you get some new Loom Tie clamps ($3 each at dealer) because you'll likely strip the current one when trying to put it back on.

    • @BrokeLogic
      @BrokeLogic 2 роки тому

      Idk about all that, but if you handle the maintenance and try to change its know failure parts out before they fail i.e. motor mounts, The engine will run for you.

      Pretty solid engine which they continue to use in newer models after 2013
