Have the blackboost intakes and like them quite a bit.i feel like top end definitely has some gains. Low end (1-3rd gear) you likely won’t notice much because of the torque limits in the tcu.

Thanks for the review giving us Mercedes-Benz. CLS platform guys a better understanding of the black boost more in depth These intakes are not cheap. I wouldn’t worry too much about the license plate, but at least they could have gave you badging on the intakes themselves.

It’s March 2024 and blackboost has not sent me anything yet. I’ve emailed them numerous times, so I decided to give up. I don’t think I will ever receive the badges on both boxes. Thanks, I appreciate your feedback!

@@Fwerks.1592 So there is a solenoid in the Oil Pump that restricts flow/pressure to essentially only allow full oiling in the engine to occur 1) on start-up and 2) over 3500RPM. Given the ECU/TCU is designed to keep RPM low and shift points "granny" shifting you almost never get full oiling.
Now, what does the solenoid prevent form getting oiled in almost all fcaets of typical driving? The oil squirters under the pistons, the VVT train, etc.
So you may have experienced the lurch/surging of the car when accelerating form either a low speed or from a stop when you're in S/S+/M drive modes.. unplugging the solenoid eliminates that. It also means you're getting full oiling across the RPM range so your cylinders are actually getting lubricated, in theory helping the cylinder scoring issue prevalent on this engine. What it verifiably helps is keeping the engine cooler. I'm sure you've felt the furnace like heat coming from the engine bay after parking your car? That temperature is insanely reduced from the mod because you're ACTUALLY using the oil system as intended, to lubricate the engine, and that oil then circulated through the oil coolant system, drawing that immense heatliad out of the previously unoiled engine block.
It also improves throttle response, increases the free revving nature, and the RPMs are just smoother overall across the entire RPM range.

@@GoldenEagleXTND wow!!!! You’ve answered a question I was asking for months now!!! Yes that jerk initially on 1st gear! I spoke to many techs, talked to different CLS63 owners and they all reported the same symptoms! Tech all say that’s normal and “ we need to let the car come up to temp”! I would always throw it on manual mode to reduce the “jerky “ feeling. Also yes the engine bay gets incredible hot!!!! I’m definitely joining the forum group!! Thank you again for this helpful information! This is gold!

To bash a reputable company because they didn’t send you a license plate frame is crazy. Throwing their merch they gave you for free was disrespectful. Especially when you’re new to the m157 platform.

@@Fwerks.1592 you bought a product and because it didn’t come on time, you went into this biased . . Even before seeing any performance gains or losses, you said “this product sucks” … Like , you think someone at Blackboost was like “hey, let’s hold this guys package for 3 months to piss him off” .. took it too personal man.
Also, intakes aren’t primarily for sound , so a sound comparison between OEM and Blackboost is almost irrelevant.

It seals against the hood and still uses the cold air feeds. I can guarantee the intake temps are the same as stock. Especially because of the water to air intercooler.
