I was born in 1959, graduated from high school in 1978. You know all the music this long haired boy was listening to. Thanks for this cover, took me back.
Del McCoury is one of the greats, a true US National Treasure. What's cool is that all these people do this because they love it - they probably would pay to be able to play!
Del's singing is perfect, and the smiles around the house as people play their parts, or watch the others, are huge treats. So much fun, on a great song, with a great history beyond Canned Heat.
This is the beauty of music. It goes with every form, Blue grass, rock, classical, you name it and you can play it. Look what musicians have done with The Beatles.
wonder if cash went the Thomas family. Doubt it. If you listen side by side lyrics are different but the phrasing, and groove exact copy asked around the flute part is exact.
Check out Henry James' version from 1928 on youtube. He even plays the panflute that Canned Heat used, but as a single performer. These old-timers need the credit due them.
@@joelzdepski9884 I thought he (also?) played a reed instrument made from cane? I think I read that in the liner notes to the wonderful Olde Tyme music comp "Good For What Ails You."
Great version! Certain songs once they get in the groove, a thumpin, remind me of a locomotive goin down the tracks. This is one, great rhythm! Thanks!
Nice addition to videos from this session posted by you & the Gibson Brothers I've already enjoyed. Would love to see a video of the entire session. Great to see everyone enjoying playing & singing together.
Del McCoury and his band along with some great help here seem to turn every song into gold. thank you so much... I'm sure henry thomas and canned heat would approve too lol
What an amazing cover. Wow, truly special. Great way to honor Alan Blind Owl Wilson, Bob the Bear Hite, Henry Sunflower Vestine, and Larry the Mole Taylor.
Fantastic. Great sound in a great setting with incredible musicians. Thanks for sharing this and giving the attention to detail that these amazing musicians deserve. I love them all and of course especially Del McCoury.
This song has been laying around just waiting for this version.
Absolutely! 100%
Absolutely correct! This is perfection!
I like to call what these 🎨, people play-'Americana', it fits, IMO. Bluegrass seems like putting them in too small a box❤
I was born in 1959, graduated from high school in 1978. You know all the music this long haired boy was listening to. Thanks for this cover, took me back.
Born in '54 and graduated in 1972.....feel the same.
Excellent!
Of course it’s a cover of Henry Thomas Bull Doze Blues 1928. Well worth a listen!
90+ years old
Indeed that has been a nearly overlooked fact for decades, but we'll take every wonderful version we can get❤
Thanks for giving credit to the first performance.
Canned Heat held close to Thomas' version. ua-cam.com/video/b8NJ-MIfFHI/v-deo.html
And Monroe got "Rocky Road Blues" out of that song.
Love it... Nothing like good musicians playing good music to put a smile on your face... GOD BLESS Y'ALL... & GOD BLESS AMERICA 🇺🇸
Alan Wilson would be proud of you guys.
haha song is about going to Canada to avoid the draft, it's a big FU to America

It's all about the smiles :D
@@rudolphguarnacci197 I was at Woodstock when Canned Heat had this on their playlist, with a great reception by the crowd!
Growing up I always heard this song but when I heard yall played it in blue grass. I fell in love with it. Thank you for such beautiful music.

Music like this should get bigger. So much fluff and stuff these days. Excellent.
This is the beauty of music. It goes with every form, Blue grass, rock, classical, you name it and you can play it. Look what musicians have done with The Beatles.
Del McCoury for president! Great job. What a talented group of musicians.
I love canned heats version since I was a kid but, damn. This is amazing. Over the top great. Thanks for sharing.
This is nice but nothing compares to Canned Heat
regarding this song.
Ditto Dirtworshiper 👌
@@bikersoncall check out the original
@@stuartwallace6154 Nice, great tune.
Personally, I prefer the original Henry Thomas.
Love it when it's a relaxed jam,,..just hangin' out. Fabulous!
I am sure Alan Wilson will be smiling down on you fine musicians ... you done the song proud ... thanks form England.
Shame he didnt write it
@@Kevin-ke2in He did sing the famous version that we are all familiar with, though.
@@Kevin-ke2in but he sure could sing it!
Love this, love when musicians get together and play like this.
A real treat. So many good musicians. Makes you wanna dance rather than drive or ride.
It's not originally by Canned Heat. They covered it themselves. Henry Thomas wrote and sang it in 1928.
Its just fair...👍
I never said it was originally done by Canned Heat ... Alan Wilson was the lead vocal on this song by Canned Heat.
Who would pay attention if it was posted as a Henry Thomas hit from 1928?
When I saw the thumbnail text, I came to look for this comment. I suppose they didn’t know. Most people don’t
@@gingercat555 in the description they present it as a song of canned heat.
What a great performance. Superb players all! And that voice is pure bluegrass.
Of Course this is a Henry Thomas song from 1928, I hope the band pays some attribution to one of the greatest black blues artists of all time.
did not know that, but it fits and sure needs to be acknowledged!!!
@@scottski51 Bulldoze blues
True, but they are using Alan Wilson’s arrangement and lyrics - and putting it back into the 1928 style of Henry Thomas’ era. Love it! 💙
wonder if cash went the Thomas family. Doubt it. If you listen side by side lyrics are different but the phrasing, and groove exact copy asked around the flute part is exact.
Be quiet
Just great and thank you very much.
Good country rendition. Original was adapted by Alan Wilson from "Bull Doze Blues" by Henry Thomas (1928).

Am I the only one who thinks that Rob McCoury's banjo playing deserves much more attention than it gets?
I like the vocalist.
Ohhhhhh,,,, such joy emanating from this gang!!! Beautiful music friends!!! Brought me such happiness and joy that I played it over and over again!!!
This got my toe tappin and by foot stomping with my hands clapping...i will play it again an over an over

OK, that was an excellent rendition of goin' up the country. Del McCoury Band is tight.
Well done, Bravo...!!!
One of my 1960's childhood favorites. From blues to bluegrass.
I never thought of doing a bluegrass cover of Going Up The Country, but it does work well.
If anyone's unsure what heavenly music sounds like.....
Now you know....
The group Canned Heat played this years ago. A flute riff was added. The first tune I tried to play when I was a kid.
I watched Canned Heat play it in 1971 in Dallas Texas. Great song...
SPECTACULAR rendition of a great old song.
Great version! Certain songs once they get in the groove, a thumpin, remind me of a locomotive goin down the tracks. This is one, great rhythm! Thanks!
Del's band can really find the groove.
When the bass comes in at the start.....
OOhhOhhoo! J'adore! Merci! ... ça fait beaucoup de bien! 🤩🤗
Crushed it!
Nailed it. 👍👍🇺🇸
Loved the music... the mics !!! Nice job on the sound. Beautiful performances. 👍
What a beautiful song n what a beautiful voice. Love it❤
I had rather hear an informal jam session like this one than a formal concert.
This is marvelous. Thanks from England
