A living legend...for those that don't know Del is one of the few legends still touring and putting on great shows night after night..Go see him whilst you can!
Del McCoury is one of the greatest storytellers I’ve seen live.. you feel like you’re sitting down with him having ice tea on the porch hahaha such a bluegrass legend
Here in Cumberland, MD, Rob, Ronnie, Alan, Jason and Del and their families are much-loved and considered our cherished friends. They are great artists and gentlemen. I was at that year's Delfest , and Richard Thompson's guitar picking was lightning fast. Families were lounging on the grass, relaxing at their campsites, or tubing down the Potomac River. A true community. Ricky Skaggs, Trey Anastasio from Phish, Warren Hays and Govt. Mule, and the best bluegrass musicians in the nation have been there over the years, and the organizers conduct the Delfest Academy for instructing and encouraging new musicians. And the McCoury family runs the Delfest Foundation, helping out people who are hard-hit socially and economically in Cumberland and Allegany County. They are more than world-class musicians, they are true heroes and fine folks.
Wow!!!!! Sounds fantastic!!!! I heard Mr McCoury here in San Francisco at one time and just love this stuff, especially just floored by Mr Carter's fiddling and singing. I would love to learn banjo at the school.
I admire this man for his sunny attitude and his willingness to put his spin on diverse material from non-bluegrass musicians as far flung as the Lovin' Spoonful, Richard Thompson, and Blind Lemon Jefferson. He's so cool without even trying. Folks here have called him "a living legend" and a "national treasure." So very true. His sons, Rob and Ronnie, are fine musicians who lead the Traveling McCourys. Lots of great music has come from two generations of McCourys. Americana and bluegrass royalty.
HOT DAMN!...You got The MOST PROFESSIONAL, BEST DRESSED, OL-TIMEY SOUNDIN' BLUEGRASS BAND, RIGHT HEE-YAH!!! YOU NAILED ANOTHER ONE, NPR!!! On a serious note, though...every time I've ever seen them perform...was security for them once, too, long ago...I always felt such passion and joy coming from them. Del and the boys have ever been the consummate gentlemen, and getting to spend any time with him and his family, musically, is an honor.
I’ve seen a lot of music but this band stands alone at the very pinnacle of traditional bluegrass. See it while you can! It’s a special experience…. Thank you Del and family so much for keeping this space for people to enjoy
Traveling all the way down to Virginia from NYC just to see Del. He's a legend and I gotta see him while he's still out there playin. Lookin forward to it.
Del is Bluegrass royalty, going back to his time as a member of the Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys. From a broader perspective, all of these players are world-class musicians individually.
This Tiny Desk Concert was a real treat. I wouldn't have been exposed to this group's outstanding material. These guys truly are some impressive musicians!!!
Great musicians, and being a mandolin guy, really appreciate the playing by Ronnie. Makes that mandolin sing so sweetly. Banjo is just soft enough to not overwhelm with that flame thrower.
quigley 45-100 Found out he was opening for Junior Brown at a river side concert in Sacramento California. Took my son who was a budding musician and we both sat there for hours with our mouth is wide open. Couldn’t believe the energy and musicianship these fine gentleman displayed!
@Antoine Brosseau The standing joke: the difference between a banjo and a trampoline? You take your shoes off when you jump on the trampoline. badaboom.
Legendary, and makes me appreciate MY father. He isn't the musician Del is, but he weaves his magic in other ways. This reminds me of all the good things Dad has done for me. Thanks Del, I'll listen to you 'til the day I die!
What a phenomenal band ! They have been show casing everything Bluegrass music was and is meant to be. Ronnie and Robbie are Del's pride and joy. Yes, and Del should be considered a national treasure. He has the perfect voice for the genre. Even at his age he can still deliver the tones. I understand he doesn't attend many concerts much anymore. He prefers a quiet like at home, but enjoys touring as much as he can with his sons. I've seen these guys. They are pure professionals in every sense of the word. I hope they will be around for many, many more years. They are 100% awesome.
Thank you to Dell and the boys for this little jam session!🙂🤘👍 I had a good time watching . 52 vincent was my favorite! I love them bikes! 🙂❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🙏🕊🦋.
Mr. Del McCoury and his Band are wonderful Country Gentleman. I think he is the same kind of Music as Duke Ellington on Country side. - Two men on one show, country and big city. This is Music! Love it: Jazz and Bluegrass!
A superb bluegrass band - simply superb in all respects. Each musician is a master of their instrument. And their repertoire is just great. God bless Dell. He has made gigantic contributions to bluegrass and has been a major factor in it’s survival and growth - he is a treasure - and pure class.
Just perfect. I echo Bob Bollen's feelings about the tight vocals - they make the hair on my arms stand up! This is a tight, professional, joyful band.
Lollipops, rainbows 🌈 & popcorn 🍿. On you tube some people would give that a 👎 thumbs down. The history of this music, the harmonies, the musicianship , well it’s like lollipops, rainbows and popcorn 😊
I'm glad I finally came across this. I'm not sure how I missed it. Del is a piece of American history, representative of days gone by played honestly and sincerely. Thanks Del! and Tiny Desk.
I had the pleasure of getting to know these guys over a summer when I was 23 and being an aspiring musician, staying in Rob's house. All of these gentlemen were some of the nicest, hospitable people I have ever met.
Doesn't get better than this -- still holding our tickets for Delfest 2020, hoping it happens in 2021. Such great players, and a wonderful family, the McCourys and their larger (huge) musical family.
I couldn't stop my toe from a tapping! See this is why I ❤ npr tiny desk! I wouldn't normally stumble across an act like this, but I enjoyed this thoroughly! 👍👍🌶
Awesomeee! Loving what you guys are showing on NPR. Great Job, you are doing a service to real music lovers. Thank you! Greetings from Ecuador, first time I hear this gentlemen performing, cool cats!
Here's the thing about Ronnie McCoury: there are flashier mandolinists, there are technically more adept mandolinists, but every time he steps up to the mike he tells the story. There's no zilch, there's no showing off, there's just great musical storytelling. I would love to study with him to understand how he does that.
You can at Delfest. They conduct a four-day Academy with the band and other great musicians as instructors, on banjo, dobro, fiddle, guitar, bass, and mandolin.
High and lonesome and genuine - I think Del McCoury and Co are the best in the business
A living legend...for those that don't know Del is one of the few legends still touring and putting on great shows night after night..Go see him whilst you can!
Saw them at hillberry in 2019, what an amazing show.
I love Del Mccoury, he is definitely a living legend
I’m lucky enough to live half an hour from DelFest.
Amen
Look up the definition of "legend" then ask yourself if that's really what you meant to call this talented person.
I seen Del and the boys several times. A great show everytime. He is truly the last of the bluegrass kings
This is one of the best tiny desks I've seen and I wouldn't have ever heard about it because its not a mainstream style of music
One of the best live shows I had ever seen . Small venue, he would talk to the audience and take requests.
Del McCoury is one of the greatest storytellers I’ve seen live.. you feel like you’re sitting down with him having ice tea on the porch hahaha such a bluegrass legend
My bluegrass hero
Del is a fine person. So a
Is his band. Can you imagine raising two boys on the road?

Wow to be 79 years old, so amazing. That suit is very snappy.
He sure has kept his voice much longer than many.
Tiny Desk never fails to amaze me !
There's only one Del Mccoury band. Some try to copy them, but non have or every will stand up to them. They are a legend.
I am proud to say they are my favorite. Legends
Saw last night in Asheville. By far the best band led by a living legend. Sounds good as ever.

I love Del Mccoury and his band. Definitely, A true living legend
These folks are all legends because they took their collective love of music and gave it back to us simply to make us all happy. How about that?
What a phenomenal band ! They have been show casing everything Bluegrass music was and is meant to be. Ronnie and Robbie are Del's pride and joy.
