I have extremely extremely oily skin and suffered with hormonal acne all my life. Now I am 45 still with oily skin and hormonal acne 🤦🏽. Then Eureka, one day I was researching on how to combat my PMS and came across DIM. Then literally my life changed. I have been taking DIM for almost 6 months now. My PMS symptoms, my cramps, my mood swings and my hormonal acne all down by 90%. Now I can't rave about it enough ❤️
I took this for 2 1/2 years. It helped tremendously, however… I ended up with rare side effects : Brain fog, short term memory loss and fatigue. I stopped taking it as my mental health means more to me. You have to watch your potassium intake since this medication holds onto potassium. If you consume too much potassium you can have kidney failure. You also shouldn’t take any SSRI’s with this medication as they contain potassium. Just letting you know since my doctor told me none of this!
I wish doctors knew / would tell us that you can manage acne by keeping insulin low. Some time after starting a low carb / keto diet my hormonal acne was completely gone. Nothing else worked except the pill. I can’t explain how stressful it was. And now it’s just gone. Until I eat too much sugar on cheat days. Then I get big pimples again. I’m my opinion it’s clearly connected to insulin.
That's great that it worked for you, but a low carb/keto diet actually made my acne significantly worse. Acne is complicated and not one thing will work for everyone
I started taking spironolactone August 2022, 50mg, I'm seeing a little bit of results. I'm patiently waiting until I have a clearer skin again. I also do chemical peel every 2-3 weeks. One positive result though is, since I've been taking it, I've never had migraine episodes. I know someone commented that it gave her headaches but mine was the opposite and I've had migraine since I was 14yo or even earlier and now I'm 36yo. I'm due for a follow up at my dermatologist next month. Thank you for this video!
i started taking the same dose, but in april. it will take a little more than 3 months to kick in so don't give up! if you don't see results after that, then perhaps you just need to increase the dosage.
Dr Lim I need a trustworthy educated opinion re a new Japanese skin brand LalaVie by SHIKO beauty. The first NINE ingredients of this expensive face "chiffon cream" are water, mineral oil, petrolatum, glycerin, isohexadecane, microcrystalline wax, lanolin alchohol, synthetic wax, lanolin... then finally 2 ceramides and retinyl palmitate followed by a long list of flowers and oils Sounds far too gimmicky to be that expensive no?
Spiroloctane is a very good medication for persistent oily skin and.hormonal breakouts. I took 200 mg to begin with and then Went down to 100mg. I was on it for years and my skin was never better. I only started on it in my 30s because I was sick and tired of being at the mercy of my unpredictable skin. I would constantly get these big ugly isolated cyst type spots that took ages to go. Really ugly really annoying and I felt I was too old to be still suffering from spots. I I never got a spot when I was on Spiroloctane and the texture of my skin was lovely.
I have had it for 13 years got it at 28 so very late in life. I’m about as good as cured now. Spiro isn’t available for acne treatment in my country so I did go on antibiotics for 3 months. now I’m over on tretinoin and clindamycin and my skin is so good 😀
Since coming off the combined pill I’ve noticed an increase in acne that initially started on my forehead but is now along my chin and lower cheeks and lots of blackheads (and blackheads under the skin) and texture. I really don’t know what to do about it but I’ll try these steps!
Since Spironolactone was originally used for hypertension , can it cause hypotension when used to treat acne? The dosage for acne is the same, if not higher than what is Rx'd for hypertension.
great video. Wondering if spironolactone and ora minoxidil can be used at the same time of the day or separate (for example one in the morning and the other one at night), what is your routine prescription for that? many thanks
What if I have hormonal acne but I don't have oily skin? I was on Accutane a few years ago so my skin actually very dry. Would spirolactane still be a good choice or would it just make my dry skin worse?
does anyone experience kidney stones on it? I had 2 kidney stones when on spiro and have never had them before or after. I'm not relapsing but I don't know whether i should go back on it. Anyone has similar story or advice?

same here .. less sugar less dairy and no rice.. i’am over in my 40’s but having pimples at my age is a shame
Maybe you should get a new doctor! Mine let me know dairy, carbs, and processed sugars cause it.
@@Jeanni920 yeah, maybe I should move to another country 🥲
THIS!!!

Mega dose vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid) 3-5g daily, split up in 3 doses. It really helps

I’ve been on Spironolactone for probably 5 years. It really controls my hormonal acne. I’m 40 years old.
have you noticed any longterm effects?
@@sashapalma3360 hello! Yes, I don’t get flare ups anymore and feel fine being on it. I also use tretinoin and look younger for my age.

I like your old format where you were in your surgery.

Not necessarily no
Outstanding info, you provided a bit more info than I recieved from my doctor. Thank you!!
Low glycemic index diets and weight loss help to also keep acne controlled if your overweight and having acne flares
Im starting isotretinoin.
But btw, you are god sent

Dr.Lim, Is there dermatologist that you would recommend who treats acne scars in Taiwan?
get microneedling! a specific derm isn't necessary for that
What if I have hormonal acne but I don't have oily skin? I was on Accutane a few years ago so my skin actually very dry. Would spirolactane still be a good choice or would it just make my dry skin worse?
🥳 Is there any new treatments for male pattern hair loss? Heard some Australian doctor was inventing a new transplant technique.
what can men do for oily skin and hormonal acne? winlevi didnt work for me.
Do you know if clascoterone will be approved in Australia?
Tried spiro but had to stop right away due to consistent headaches. I refused to continue.
Doesn’t spironolactone cause cancer though??
does anyone experience kidney stones on it? I had 2 kidney stones when on spiro and have never had them before or after. I'm not relapsing but I don't know whether i should go back on it. Anyone has similar story or advice?
What else can you use besides spiro. I was on it for only 10 days and had a really bad drug allergy.
Can you use sylicilic acid without adding any other oil for hormonal acne and acne prone skin
My dog was on this for his pheochromocytoma that caused ascites. It’s still in my fridge. I’m on orratune now
What about persons who blood pressure is already low. Can they use spironolactone?
I wish it was available in my country
Can you still use this whilst on a beta blocker? What would happen in that case?
Can men take this though?
No, spironolactone can cause gynecomastia in men
👋👍
What about finesteride ?
