"So you've been suggested to start a medication called Spironolactone for your acne. Now the interesting thing is that Spironolactone is not FDA-approved to treat acne. It's actually a blood pressure medication.
Now Spironolactone works by blocking the effects of testosterone, the male predominant hormone in your skin. Now if we think about it, testosterone is what gives us oil. Oil is what feeds the whole cycle of acne. So if we're blocking the effects of testosterone on the skin, then hopefully we're reducing the excess of oil that's produced in the skin, and then that's how your acne gets better. Now it's not too often prescribed for blood pressure because it really doesn't do that much for blood pressure, unless you increase, the dose is very high. But what they noticed when they did the studies decades ago on this, was that women who took Spironolactone and had acne, almost all of their acne went away. And so dermatologists, we've been writing Spironolactone for decades, and we've had very good luck with it. It's almost like a miracle medication for women who have acne, especially acne in areas where men have a beard, and when you get it on your forehead. And if you have that type of acne and it flares right around your menstrual cycle, then Spironolactone is probably going to be the home run for your acne..."

I have had hormonal acne for about 5 years. I have been taking this medication for 10 weeks and at the 8 week mark is when I noticed a huge improvement. My skin feels soft and breakout free!! It did make my skin drier, but nothing that can’t be fixed with a moisturizer. I had also been losing my hair for years and the shearing has almost disappeared. I think this is a miracle and I pray that it continues to work for me.
May I ask your dosage ?

I have had acne for nearly 15 yrs now, first it was teenage hormones and now adult hormones, I once went to a dermat who gave me spironolactone, it worked like miracle, like nothing ever did. I was curious so i looked it up, how it works etc. So while growing up I was told don't eat sugar, it's bad for acne. But i was surprised to know that eating sugar triggers ovaries to produce androgens. Additionally, high stress means high cortisol levels, cortisol later forms androgens later.
Also I think acne is more of an internal job. Be mindful of stress, anger, eat clean, sleep early and stay the hell away from unrequited drama!
This is just the best video on the internet which explains all the procedures so efficiently.

How long does the treatment takes?
Can spironolactone cause kidney damage? How long is too long to be taking spironolactone for it actually affect kidneys?

In the past I took 30mg daily for my acne for one year and saw amazing results. Now, my hormonal acne has come back harder than ever. Today I got a new prescription! I am so happy, despite it being the minimum dosage of 25mg. (I have lightheadedness, dizziness, and weakness problems as it is due to low blood pressure, so that's why I have to be careful). But I am so excited to be back on it because no matter how good I eat, drink water, sleep, and my skincare routine, it won't go away because it's caused by hormones.
You should try Cyproterone if you can get it. Spironolactone is an androgen receptor agonist (not an anti-gonadotropin), so it might increase your testosterone levels over time as the free testosterone builds up and does not get metabolized.
I have been taking 100mg for about 5 weeks and me period is lasting longer than normal is this something that normally happens?
My acne starting coming back 1 year after I finished Accutane. This is the only thing that I never tried. I’ve been taking it for almost 7 weeks. I don’t see any difference yet but hopefully it will help!
If you are taking the right dose you should no longer have an oily nose or forehead and you should also not have any side effects from it. Hope this helps.
Hang in there! It gets better. It just takes a while to work to its full effect. I was on Spiro for a year and it work amazingly to clear up my hormonal acne. I took a break from it for...about a year now. Unfortunately, my acne has resurfaced and I'm getting back on it...So I'm on this journey with you, just be patient. Remember, this medication works by blocking excess amounts of testosterone so it takes a while for your body to adjust. Best wishes and I hope this medication works for you!
Hii I have question I am using this aldactone tab since last 3 weeks...I am using this bcz of facial hairs but during using it I have acne on my jawline my periods are late...I want to discuss is that normal
I took it for five years, had very regular periods and clear skin. As a result, however, I grew multiple thyroid nodules. I’ve read that there’s a correlation between spironolactone and tumors.
Daisy Lopez wierd, I’ve been on it for 4 years. I had to take a B.C. pill cause it mad me spot constantly.
Daisy Lopez didn’t have any issues with thyroid however. I’m on 150 mg,
I was doubtful when I followed the 100 % natural treatment as my friend's suggestion . But the result was effective, my anti-acne faded awayin less than 7 days like a miracle, try here:> *AcneCureOnline. Com* Thanks!?
I agree that spiro is a "miracle," but I did notice it made my hair very dry and brittle. I haven't heard many other people complain of this side effect. Any tips about this?
Thanks for commenting! I'll relay your question to see if there's any tips we can offer for that. :-)
Hello again! Here is the response from Dr. Anderson:
"Thank you for the comment. I think what you might be experiencing is dryness of your hair as spironolactone is decreasing the oil that is naturally produced by your scalp. Less oil = more dry and brittle feeling. I would recommend making sure that you are getting your proper Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids and then using a good shampoo and hair conditioner that is not too harsh/drying/or containing sodium lauryl sulfate. If this does not make sense then please ask the Provider who prescribed the medication to look into it. Thank you again for your comment."
Hope you find this helpful, and have a great Thanksgiving week!
Doctorpedia can I ask the cause
Im trying to figure out why 3 different NP's have suggested this and recently Rx this for me, as a man.. When everything I am reading says men should NOT use this medication and that out of 18 men who were Rx this for 3 months on a 100mg to 200mg dose, 8 (almost 50%) developed gynecomastia..
I have been using Spironolactone for 6 months now and I finally have clear, super soft skin. I have been struggling with hormonal acne for most of my life and I have tried everything. I have used
antibiotic treatment in the past which worked, but it wasn’t great for my gut health. Since Spironolactone is not an antibiotic, I have seen a huge difference in my gut health and so much happier. Please stay consistent with this medication as it is 💯 worth it! I am currently taking 50mg twice a day and it has literally changed my life. So happy my dermatologist recommended this to me!

Does everyone break out when they start using this medication? I just started today. 50 mg. Im afraid of having a huge breakout like many described. Is it okay to take the medication with dinner instead of breakfast if that's what you prefer? Thank you for this video!
Thank you for your comment! Here is Dr. Anderson's reply: "Actually, this is not a medication that usually causes your acne to flare when you start it. It does, however, take about 6 weeks before you start noticing it working. You are welcome to take it at night but it does cause you to urinate more and so you might be waking up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom more frequently."
do you have to take this indefinitely to keep your skin clear or can you discontinue use after a certain period of time?
Sarah Harris I’ve been on it for 3 years. Made my cystic hormonal 30,s + acne on my neck and jawline disappear. However I had to go on the pill because the dose I require is 150 mg daily and it makes me spot all day everyday. I haven’t tried going off because I’m worried it will come back, I’m 43 and way too kola for acne issues.
@@Sumermak hi ... Did you go on a new generation BC pill such as yasmin, yaz, ocella? These particular BC pills has synthetic progesterone that's similar to yasmin
@@pawsitivelivingllc4292 no. I wasn’t on any bc pills before I started taking the spiro. The spiro caused the uncontrolled spotting so I had to get on a bc pill to be able to continue the spiro. I’m still taking it it’s been 4 years. I can get by with a 100 mg dose now tho. I’m 43.
I took Spironolactone for 2 months (no huge difference) then there was a short period of 3 weeks or so when I was not taking it. I just started back up and it is wreaking havoc on my skin. I'm getting pimples in places that normally never see pimples (forehead, jawline, even in my eyebrows). My question would be, is this normal to see a purging phase?
Thanks for your question Natalie! I've relayed this to our YHU staff and will post a response to your question soon!
Here's the response from Dr. Anderson: "It can be normal, but please discuss with your dermatologist so that you can make sure that nothing else is going on."

does the acne come back after stopping taking Spironolactone?
Yess
Hi , is it possible for a man to take this medication? I believe my acne is caused by SARMS, which has messed all my testosterone levels and spiked my hormones like crazy
I do not recommend men taking it unless an Endocrinologist approves it first.
It's purpose isn't made to treat men, only women with hormonal acne. You may need someone with expertise in the field of hormone-regulation therapy. A dermatologist is limited to skin disorders, etc. but u might need to collect your family medical history and take some tests for them to figure out exactly what's going on. Because the cause could be an underlying medical condition like a deficiency or something similar and you need to find the root cause. Much safer than spironolactone. This medication, if taken with even little amount of food will definitely make some people pass out or at least very nauseous.
I am 15 and i have hormonal acne and also ima guy and i was wondering if this would work for me
no this i snot prescribed for male patients
Use iglow💯
Sorry, only works on female patients
@@Mackenzie-Ann Hello, please do not write things if u are not informed , this work perfectly also for men, but they don't prescribe it because of the feminization effect on male. So, please justa explain me why u told that "only works on female patients"? i'm really curios.
Can it not effect other areas if it blocks testosterone? Woman need testosterone for important functioning. Can this effect that?
It causes breast cancer😢
Available in pakistan????
Yes it is . Brand name . aldactone
i have been on this pill over a year, i started with 25mg, not a huge difference, so my dermatologist increased the dose to 50mg, the acne still didn’t dissapear completely. I stopped for some time, because i had irregular menstrual, and i started taking isibloom and started taking sprinolactone 25mg, it had been over 2 months, not much difference, i am losing my hope, i had isotretinoin for few times, it was coming back. Any tips? thank you
Thank you for your comment. Here is Dr. Anderson's reply: "I would go back to your Dermatologist and see what your options are and what other topical medications you can use. If you are having no side effects from the Spironolactone dose you are on, I would consider increasing the dose to 75mg or 100mg a day. But please talk to your Dermatologist and see what the next appropriate steps are for your individual health."
