My favorite part of Flats’ Marvel Rivals series is the fact that I asked him on stream before it started blowing up, if he was going to play and he said “Nah it doesn’t really look that fun or my style”

@@MidasLich I mean not really. That's kind of backwards logic. Instead of people (big streamers in this case) liking a game because it's mainstream, it's more like games are mainstream because people (big streamers included) generally like them, whether they seemed interested at first or not.
A more obvious example would be like saying a pro athlete is only good because they're pro. But in reality, they're pro because they're good. He more than likely just tried out a game he didn't think would be too interesting or enjoyable and just had more fun with it than he initially expected. Obviously it being "mainstream" doesn't hurt tho cause it gets views, but again it wouldn't get those views if it wasn't just generally considered a good/fun game so.

Thor seems like to be a specialist character where you need to know when and where to use his abilities like Doomfist.
Yeah that's exactly it. Trade out mobility for damage and he's like Doomfist but with 100 shield on ability cast rather than hitting something. You can go into awakening state so often if you're using your basic attacks in between ability casts, because then that ends up with you being net positive on charges. Since he recovers Thorforce charges pretty fast over time and when you land basic attack after abilities. If he didn't have that global cooldown he would be absolutely bonkers.
I just wish there wasn’t a shared cool down. Feels so clunky
@@No_Name4642 if there wasn't a two second cooldown on the abilities I didn't use I would be fine with it but the fact that I do a hammer dash, and my hammer throw and and storm field goes on cooldown is dumb design.

He's just laughably bad. Venom has a "nah I don't wanna die button" mea meanwhile Thor has to manage stacks and play SUPER carefully or else you explode. He won't be viable unless they change the way he gets shield.

@@user-nn1fx1nc7e Absolutely not. I just got a better feel for him now after realizing you're meant to basic attack in between abilities in order to get more charges. And each ability gives you 100 overhealth (which it doesn't say anywhere).
He REALLY just takes a bit of getting used to and difficulty 2 is kinda bullshit. He should be 3 or 4 at least. He's definitely similar in playstyle to doomfist but with less mobility and much more damage.
i really love the look of this game. the third person too just adds a different feel to it.
I think the third person makes it easier for the melees, to keep track of their target as they move around. reminds me of Gigantic
And you can enjoy more the skins you get!
This game reminds me of the days OW was in beta and everyone wanted to play. Since its marvel universe the amount of characters we can have might be insane.
From playing Thor a bit in the Top 200s here's a tip. When you hit a melee after you use any ability it gives you 1 of the charge so you want to be spamming rightclicks every 3 swings for max dps output. Ex combo would be:
1. LShift in
2.1 Auto
3. Awaken
4. Spam autos till awaken runs out
5. 1 Auto
6. E
7. Awaken
8. Spam autos
9. 3 autos
10. Right click
11 3 autos
12. Right click
13 Awaken
etc
Thor is very flexible with his combos but he's extremely squishy if you can't maintain awaken uptime.

Storm existing also not only gives her synergy from team up, but her movement speed boost is a great way for Thor to close the distance on his short melee range.

Why not just spam shift instead? It does a tiny CC and re positions both you and your target. The hammer throw is more of a situational poke.
@@BelimaiSykes Yes spamming shift is better you are harder to focus as you dash all the time and you disrupt the enemy's position while bringing a little CC and a self shield it's op
Thor is definitely not a frontline tank soaking hits, but he actually outputs a lot of damage for a tank. He’s basically a high HP 3rd DPS

i figured it out pretty easy its just annoying having to go on the website at the right time. its really not that bad, if you dont get it oh well. if you do get it then you can give it to a friend, then they can get a code and give it to another person and so on.

His health on ability usage gives him sustain and then he basically has a nemesis form. I typically use f and then e in groups of enemies.
Thor and Storm is a goated combo though, Thor with damage boost and storm getting two lightning strikes outputs so much damage.

if a hero has meter that directly effects abilities and when they can be used outside of cooldowns, they will be more difficult to understand and get good at

There’s definitely a learning curve to Thor and you gotta get into a flow with his combo point, but he’s a pretty fun tank! Not as much fun as venom, but I’m glad there’s another option that’s pretty close imo

this game is so fun but, it reminds me of why overwatch implemented role queue because i kid you not the last 5 games my teams didn’t want to go 2-2-2 and ended up getting rolled. I hope they implement a role queue on full release
Every time I’ve played, I’ve had teammates play what is needed, and if not, I switch. Not hard.
If you have a good tank you can go 1-3-2 tank/dps/supoort
But honestly my biggest issue is that ults all seem to charge at the same rate and a lot of em are literraly just “win” buttons. They have little to no counter play options. Luna Ult is one of the most atrocious, pretty sure the only counters are Wanda ult and Jeff ult if you get everyone (except her cause again immune to cc). They seem to be too scared of making ults counterable aside from things like Wanda where you can kill her or if you have a shield hero for things like iron man or magneto.
Dawg we don't need role queue, I've won games without supports, and I've won games without tanks too. Adding role queue will just limit the team comps that are possible and give the game less variety
1-3-2 (and sometimes 4 dps 2 supports) can also work if you have the right team-ups

It’s really annoying that non of my friends either can’t even play the game due to still using last gen console or they had no idea of it’s existence. Despite having an absolute blasy on the game it sort of feels empty without my m8s to play with 😢

@@flaming7488 He's good enough on attack but he does need some changes. It's similar to magneto where he's broken with teamup but useless without. Thor is not broken per se with hela teamup but being able to res full hp it's so stupid good.

So far I've found with Thor I like kinda just spamming the dash and swinging away cause it gives you a shield does a little knock/cc and has a short cooldown... but it can be hard to close with Thor so thats when you use F instead to be able to poke from distance . At least thats what felt like the 2-star playstyle... Im sure there are people who can style with him.
Thor is actually quite strong and fun if you spend at least a few minutes reading and learning his kit. He’s very Doomfist-y.

Yeah Thor is pretty damn good right off the gate, but he really needs someone to shield him or protect him as a second tank. Great with someone like Magneto. But I agree that his abilities being on a global cooldown does feel scuffed. They probably didn't want him to do too much damage too fast cuz he already leans into being a damage dealing brawler tank.
Last Alpha i complained a lot about the amount of healing and damage churned out as a major pain point, mentioning OW2 as an example of an issue it created where people either never died or got instantly melted. But it feels like now they actually made the extreme variance of time to kill way more managable. Feels great. Be sure to be thorough on those surveys everyone because companies who actually do that tend to be pretty damn good at following up feedback.
Edit: Played him more today. Upon realizing that he gets thorforce charges after using a basic attack after using an ability, and every ability he casts gives him 100 overhealth, I get him now. He absolutely needs that global cooldown or else he would be doing WAY too much damage and surviving. I don't know why it doesn't tell you that you get shields every time you dash or melee. He's absolutely good once you get a feel for it, and the Global cooldown stopped feeling clunky and feels like more of a pacing thing to stick to now. I KNOW I'm supposed to use a basic attack on someone in between now.

Thor's cooldowns are different since he has a separate resource (the hammer icons) required to use them.
If they were all like that, he wouldnt be having so much trouble playing the character lol.

You have to use shift almost constantly gives you shield and the cooldowns is way too low atm.
I saw an "hammer-throwing tank" and immediately got Azaan ptsd, thanks Asgard they didn't go that way.
In fairness azaan aint no where near as bad as he first came out.

Yeah the fact they put a resource management on Thor, on top of a 2 second global cooldown. Makes 0 sense to me. You should be rewarded by managing your resources effectively, or be able to all in if you want to when at full. But with the global cooldown. Instead of rewarding you, you get punished.

@@Dpsdark thats why they dont need him to gain charges back by autos. Its such a weird kit design. They put in multiple different mechanics that are normaly found on different characters from other games, and wanted to put them all on one for some reason, and makes it kinda pointless for how those mechanics were implimented in the first place... Dont matter if it takes abit to learn. I been playin him alot and doin great, but his kit still shouldnt work the way it does.

Way too many audio cues imo. Even with all the visual clutter in OW2, i can usually tell what's going on by listening. This seems like a lot
Cause you don't have a basic understanding yet there are ult voicline it's spider time,eye of. Agamoto chaos and so on and there are death or kill voice lines usually based on the chars feelings about other chars in the movies or comics or based on there role out of the game like Thor says gave her the same treatment she gave to many others to hela who is a God of death and then there are just char interactions you can ignore the interactions and death or kill voiclines completely ults are the only ones you need to know if your not a Marvel fan it's pretty easy to tell who does what ult after a couple vids and after you got there voice down from the ults you will know who's talking

how can we play
One of the devs has to be cracked on him, he is not 2 star, at bare minimum 3 star since he has a resource to manage. If hulk is 4, thor can be 4.
I can see it, but at the same time all you really have to do is Shift into E into F pretty much every time.
The servers are so bad (Frankfurt DC 11ms).
Playing at 200FPS, it just takes a few minutes to stutters like 14FPS, while the FPS does not drop.
Every match after 4 minutes *inbound* packetloss begins to rise and slowly increases to 10% where the game is just unplayable.
Thor could defitely play like doomfist if his cooldowns wasn't hindering him so hard.
What is it with tanks that have hammers, coming across as bad in games that Flats plays? Crazy

i feel like his range attack and melee need to be number tweaked and switched because he looks super underwhelming and unfun to play as.
He's just not playing him well.
He just sucks, altough melee ranged needs to be changed a bit. But imo just for black panther, he's the one with a laughable attack range
Im really curious how the game balance plays out, you can never quite tell how it will be before the meta forms (remember when dva launched, everyone demanded nerfs, then she was consistently buffer for years and still struggled?). I do hope the games balance encourages fun playstyles, overwatch for me was ruined when every healer became crossmap and AoE

He's a tank but has almost zero peel and CC, and his mechanic feels like ADC auto-attack canceling. Odd character
His charge with the hammer, literally pushes enemies (it may mini stun/interrupt as well but im unsure). How is that "zero peel and CC"?
He's just not playing the character well because he doesn't seem to know that Thor gains over (extra) health whenever he uses an ability. Even if the ability doesn't land.
This isn't completely his fault since the ability descriptions don't state this currently.
He seems to want to dump all his resources and spam the lightening hands when he should be in their faces, pushing them around while being damn near unkillable.
@@CJ-ct2mu maybe it's just the way he's playing it then. It just seemed like Thor's one option for CC is also his only option for mobility, so he looks super easy to outmaneuver by any of the good damagers and pretty lackluster in the CC department compared to like Venom. Not trying to say the character looks useless, just not fitting what I typically think of as a tank
@@jacobtrost5048 He's a similar take to hulk. Not much cc but it's a tank that goes into the backlane and disrupts your team, forcing the tanks to back off and help their healers while your team can push. SImilar to the hamster on OW basically

@@henriquealvarenga9244 When people turn off the web assist setting and make it so you can aim your own webs, the swinging looks great.
By default it's set to aim for you and makes it harder to control where you want to go.

There are a already hella flying characters in the game. His ult, hammer dash and empowered forms represent his ability to fly.
I love watching you play this, but I can't be the only one who is annoyed by the audio. Trying to pay attention to Flats talking, while everything is going on in the background in game, while his teammates are also talking, while twitch notifications are going....it's a bit overload. Why does every in game character need to rock a voice line every 3 seconds lol.
