The genre you did not recognize is folk, so this is folk-rock-metal. Pronunciation of the bands name is Gaw-teh. Ulveham is based on an old ballade and the chorus is based on luring the heard of cows, "kulokk" or "lokking" in Norwegian. Great reaction!
Gåte is a group that has been together for about 20 years. Established groups. And has a bit quirky sound, so check their music out 😂Thanks for your reaction! Awesome 😀🙏
Great reaction🤗 I love this song and performance, and I’m so glad we’re sending Gåte (gaw-teh) with this original song to Malmö🤘 The genre is folk/rock/metal Gåte has been a band since 1999 , with a pause in between, so they know what they're doing. About the song: The intro is an old “kulokk”. A “kulokk” is how the women called/calls the cows home to be milked in the summer (often in the mountains) So the chorus is inspired by this “kulokk” The song itself is inspired by a norwegian medieval folklore/ballade. Ulveham means wolfskin English lyrics: [Sample: Vocalization; Marit Jensen Lillebuen] [Verse 1] I was such a beautiful maiden My stepmother evil, my mother she died She turned me into a sword and a needle And sent me to the king's estate And the anger my stepmother felt the most That all the stately liked me best [Chorus: Vocalization] [Verse 2] Then she gave me skin like a grey wolf She cursed me to walk the forest alone And never will I bе whole and good Before I drink my brothеrs' blood [Chorus: Vocalization] Check out their song “Svarteboka” featuring Djerv Greetings from Norway🥰
Gåte’s music is a dark, mesmerizing and stunningly beautiful take on Nordic folk. Where they flirt with elements from traditional Norse and pagan music as well as from more modern genres like rock and industrial. The chorus is a socalled KULOKK, - the maiden calling the cattle in from the the mountains. The roots of this song is a thousand years old.
I know that probably my country wont win 🇭🇷, becuose of yurrie, instead of overhiped Italy and Ukraine, hope 🇳🇴 will win... great combination of metal, kinda gothic /viking vibes and traditional singing, and she have really good voice...
Not really viking. The music is from after the viking age. Think our catholic medieval times. Norway was actually doing pretty well after the viking age before the great plague hit us and we ended in a personal union with our neighbors... Then we spent something like 500 years under foreign rule...
Gåte means riddle. The text is a thousand years old. A girl is turned into a wolf by her stepmother and can only become human again if she drinks her brother's blood. She meets her stepmother in the forest, the stepmother is pregnant. She kills her stepmother and drinks her unborn brother's blood. happy ending for the girl.
The letter Å-å is pronounced like the first A in Awesome, Allright (Gaw-te / Go-te), and the last E in Gåte is prononced like the E in Eric. They play old Norwegian folk-music. Been around for 25 years. Lots of videoes on UA-cam.
Many people are not aware of what she actually sings, which in my opinion is a cruel text from the old days. The text copied from newspaper: She summarizes "Ulveham", based on an old medieval ballad, as the story of an evil stepmother who casts a curse on her stepdaughter - who turns into a wolf running in the forest forever. She only loses her wolf's hide if she drinks her own brother's blood. "There will be a kind of happy - but cruel - ending when she meets the stepmother on horseback in the forest, throws herself at her, rips out her heart and drinks the blood. Because the stepmother is pregnant with her brother - thereby the curse is lifted.
"Ulveham" depicts a person that is a shapeshifter - a werewolf, in this case. (I love werewolves, i have some of that sort in my books. I am a norwegian, of course.)

Im norwegian and gotta say swedish metal bands are way better like soilwork in-flames and sonic syndicate. Not a big fan of black metal like dimmu borgir, they got a few songs that are ok like mourning palace and puritania.
Norways song is my favourite so far 💖
12 point for Norway 🇸🇯 from Estonia

25 years but they did have a break, the vocalist Gunnhild was only 13-14 when they started.
Great reaction🤗

Ulveham means wolfskin
English lyrics:
[Sample: Vocalization; Marit Jensen Lillebuen]
[Verse 1]
I was such a beautiful maiden
My stepmother evil, my mother she died
She turned me into a sword and a needle
And sent me to the king's estate
And the anger my stepmother felt the most
That all the stately liked me best
[Chorus: Vocalization]
[Verse 2]
Then she gave me skin like a grey wolf
She cursed me to walk the forest alone
And never will I bе whole and good
Before I drink my brothеrs' blood
[Chorus: Vocalization]

Nice reaction! That one's definitely up my alley too. Nordic folk is an amazing genre which I've just started to discover thanks to Gåte.

Sounds like a rather troublesome solution 😄
Riddle or maybe more like - enigma...
It's a very primal "genre" coupled with history... :)
3 another beautiful songs from Gåte: "Svarteboka", "Huldra" and "Kom no disjka"
Go Norway❤

It's an old ballade of Norvegia
This one reminds me of NIghtwish but instead of vampires, its vikings.

The lyrikk is over 1000 years old......old Norwegians folk musikk ❤❤❤
I am from Norway, so sad that Gothminister didn't get the chance to represent Norway
"Ulveham" depicts a person that is a shapeshifter - a werewolf, in this case. (I love werewolves, i have some of that sort in my books. I am a norwegian, of course.)
The letter "Å" is *not* a variation of the letter "A" with å accent but a entirely separate letter.
if you're checking out rock in ESC then you should check out AWS - Viszlat Nyar from 2018
