You need to listen to more Deichkind. This song is a satire and critique of consumerism, delivered in a very unique style. I think it is very hard for non german speakers to understand the nuances, but they make blatantly fun of ppl who over indulge in shopping, lifestyle and self-image.
Yeah, I think that's a pretty accurate interpretation. Deichkind is always making fun of and criticizing the messed-up parts of our society. It's like, really sarcastic.
Yes, he basically says with as much "boredom" in his voice as possible that everything is really good. But in fact, everything is boring because you can have everything and you've already seen everything somewhere. The outfits and everything in the video should show once again what's available. There are also side-swipes in the direction of TikTok etc., where you just see things like that (someone eating live octopus and so on).
Agreed with all of you. In addition I'd like to add that (in my experience) half of the song's lyrics are basically party acquaintances chit-chat phrases of what's new, what's worth checking out, what's worth it's money. It's all a conversational blueprint talk to make yourself feel more cultivated. This song and video really is an A+ of being frickin cool song & video, but also conveying a real meaning. Und darüber hinaus bin ich im Dezember beim Konzert :)
Very precisely! I'd add for the title that it 'Richtig gutes Zeug' would also be an iconic phrase to use for drugs. So that also brings another layer to our consumption goods beeing talked about the same as drugs.
The Lyrics in German are GENIUS - they have such a good sense of german language how it is spoken - each sentence they use in this song you would ALWAYS hear from your neighbor, buddy, etc. trying to tell you how THEY know best what`s good.... Deichkind are masters of lyrics!
Native speaker here. The lyrics are just a compilation of common sayings - nothing genius to hear here. Also the idea isn't new, like their song 'leider geil' or 'dicker Bauch' - it's literally the same idea, which they stole from the song 'mfg' from Die fantastischen Vier. It's ok to like the music, maybe, but you have no understanding of german language at all, if you see anything genius here. Like in their first days, which I wittnessed with disgust, they do nothing but act as weird as they can to get the money. This band is as ridiculous as it gets, has no evolution at all and is a flybraintrap.

Please more of Deichkind! It's so interesting and funny watching a english speaker hearing this. And for me it's one of the best Interpret in electronic and rap music we have in Germany. Especially because there is so much popular crapy rap in Germany.
The lyrics, to me, are mostly about three things: the vibes of some sky high guy you meet at a party in Hamburg who's salivating over nice food he'd like to have, nostalgia for things that don't exist anymore or don't hit like they did when you were young, and yes, like many have commented, the buy buy buy consumer mentality
Your reaction is priceless. 😂 Even we Germans weren't able to handle it on the first sight. And that's the fun part of Deichkind: You never know what to expect, except the chances are high that it's weird. But you should see Deichkind more as an art project than a band. Deichkind are amazing artists and deliver outstanding performances. But they also have a great sense of humor and don’t want to be taken 100% seriously. I recommend their newer video 'In der Natur.' If you translate the lyrics into English, you’ll know what I mean. "Wer sagt denn das" is also absolutely worth seeing, with very profound lyrics. At one of their live concerts, I stood there almost the entire time with my mouth open, unable to believe what I was seeing (in a positive way). It’s important to remember that these people are around 50 years old. Greetings from Austria!
DeichKind is definitely high-level hip-hop. Super, super smart and artsy. And in this track, it’s more or less about consumerism. It’s a critique of today’s extreme consumption. Really, really dope and unbeatable as a live team.

The last German music artists at all levels that exist. Rap-technically from the flow on a final high level. Linguistically unsurpassed. The live shows are insane.
For many years these guys invent new styles with every album. And even if it’s extremely wild, if fits. Beat, rap and most of all the perfect use of the German language that is perfect into each detail. Also one of my favourites is “Dinge” from one of their newer albums.
I found this channel by chance and am delighted that the Deichkinder, who I also find incredibly creative, have earned such international respect. I celebrate your channel because finally you can see how innovative the Germans can be, and also funny, and fierce, and great guys ;-) Thank you.

Deichkind is a really special group. Historically speaking, back in the 90s they were more focused on traditional hip hop styles but even then, always with an unconventional, twist. At some point in the early 2000’s they introduced a lot more electronic music influences and even though they always were a bit weird, they started to just go full on nuts. Lyric wise it’s really hard to bring the message through to another language because they not only use a lot of Hamburg and generally northern German slang and combining it with a lyric style that uses phrases that don’t seam to say much but actually do because they reference a certain type of context, group of people or society that would use those phrases or style of talking. One could say that a lot of the message is not in the meaning of the words themselves but rather in what they stand for in reference to the topic they try to describe and how they are delivered. Most of those things either require a really detailed understanding of the German language or they just do not come across when translated at all which makes translated lyrics of deichkind seam totally jibberish from time to time. It’s kinda the same with the videos. Even though some parts or even some of their videos in general feel more like a generally “cool” or “crazy/weird experience” without a lot of meaning to it, a lot of what they show in their videos also has this “between the lines statements” that are hidden in the mainly overstimulating way they tend to present them. All of this is part of the reason I think deichkind is not only funny and weird but also extremely thought through and ingenious.
Deichkind WAS a hiphop group but became an ironic pop and dance act with very funny and entertaining lyrics. "Very/ really good stuff" A typical phrase when it comes to drugs is used here for everyday objects.
you have to go and see one of their shows. I work for a trampoline company and the guys book our trainers to jump during the intermission (yeah, they have a very special pause in each of their shows) it's awesome!
Deichkind is pure genius on every level.. Maybe you should try "Dinge" next! Or "Bude voll people", what is kind of a weird coverversion of a Marylin Manson Song! O.o
Oh yes, I hoped you'd react to that one. It's trippy indeed. I remember first watching it and the sound effects and visuals made me feel like I'm on drugs. Philipp sliding off his chair like he is a doll is a good visual representation of that feeling. Btw you are right, when you watch them in interviews they come across as pretty down to earth guys. They just have a great artistic sense.
You should listen to "Deichkind-komm schon" this was the best. Thats the Song that started this laid Back Rap Style of Deichkind. If you want to listen to their Albums start with the old ones. First and second. There they were a Hip Hop Crew and influenced Lots of German Hip Hop from today. If you listen to the Song "tarantula in the darkness" you Here the strong influences they gave to Guys Like gzuz
Deichkind is probably the most unique band in Germany. They don't serve a singular genre, their music varies in style and every single track is characterized by professionalism and since 1997 they deliver on a level beyond anything else. At first glance it may seem a bit random and weird, but the lyrics are usually very deep, sometimes sarcastic and sometimes with hidden references. There are also sometimes hidden easter eggs in the videos that refer to something. The live shows are very famous and even there deichkind show the same level of professionalism I find your reaction to deichkind (and also to older german hip hop) very fascinating and would be happy if you would bring more reactions to this. A good example of the scope of the different styles would be “Luftbahn”, I'm sure you'd be very surprised :)
If you like some unusual music in that style, here are my suggestions: Großstadtgeflüster - Feierabend Dicht und Ergreifend - Wandadoog 257er - Holz Die Orsons - Ventilator
I am from Germany and I was blown Away by this one also. They have these typical phrases from the northern Dialect like “Krig die Tür nich mehr zu “ which is like you can’t believe it (mouth wide open). And this under cool way of saying those things is actually also very typical for the northern people. They don’t talk a lot and if so almost with no emotions. The phrases are very well picked funny samples of expressing rare and good and especially stuff that is not needed at all. Like the pearl catalog ha ha!
Deichkind were the contemporary non plus ultra of German electronic hip hop at the time of this album. Unfortunately, at least for me, they haven't developed any further in their newer music. One of their older songs that I can also recommend to you is 'Arbeit nervt'. The video and the lyrics are funny in a socially critical way. Edit: On 'Richtig gutes Zeug': The content of the text, to break it down, is simply consumer criticism
"Limit". old but gold. same as "Bon Voyage". not comparable with the new stuff, but I loved it back in the Days ... everytime they drop and album , its a bomb. then they Vanish again. till the next bomb drops
I honestly have to disagree. Their more recent album was somewhat different for sure, but in my opinion, in different ways, they still hit the nail on the head with their political and social commentary, there were some straight bangers on the album and the videos are just as crazy, only maybe not as big in production.
DK are one of the most iconic formations with a hip hop background (saying background because their style tends to spiral out of control). If you losely follow them a bit you notice that they produce a lot of tracks whose catchlines become a kind of a german proverb itself to anyone who listens to them like e.g. leider geil (~unfortunately awesome), richtig gutes zeug (~really good stuff), wer sagt denn das? (~who says so?) and many more. If you want some of their old bangers to understand which journey they took you can check out "Limit", "Ich betäube mich" and "Komm schon" just to name a few. Even got some older Stuff which was just as experimental as some of their newer stuff, just a way shifted style.
First of all - they are a rabbit hole and highly respected in germany from all musicians, because they are pure artists and absolute successful because they are not interested in success.
That real good stuff. ;) Greeting from germany. For me Deichkind best german music, but its more about the party they make live, have seen them 8 times so far and will see them again in december. The liveshows are just amaizing.
The video "Arbeit nervt" had millions of views in the double-digit range. There was a UA-cam GEMA dispute in Germany and it was simply taken down and never reappeared. In my opinion, it was one of the coolest videos.
They are dancing on the edge of madness, genius, critique of consumerism and celebrating it all at the same time, in my opinion the most intellectual German rap band while being extremely entertaining at the same time.
Deichkind is such a longterm act in the german music scene. They make music for almost 30 years. You can listen to their older stuff like Bon Voyage to see where they came from.
What a great Channel! So much more value than almost everything out there... Maybe you could even analyse the shallow modern music to set a contrast to the imput, basically, all humanity is exposed too. Thank you for your work!
Dude, I love your Deichkind reactions. Deichkind is different - For me (a metal only guy), deichkind is the only real exception that I even have to watch live. Please more and also the older, famous stuff like bon voyage
To answer your question about how they are regarded: They are arguably amongst Germany's biggest "modern" bands, even though they have been around for almost 30 years now. They are still constantly evolving their style (their newest single/video "Könnt ihr noch" is very Herby Hancock and Kraftwerk influenced), which I think helps keep them fresh, their concerts are visited by (tens of) thousands of people and are one giant party from start to end. I think it's safe to say they're one of the very few bands that is equally revered across the whole spectrum of popular culture, from hip hop heads to the dance/EDM crowd all the way over to metalheads and punks. There's very few people that cannot find anything good about DK, and those are usually not worth bothering with
Maybe i should not even tell you. In Germany, they play venues that the likes of Elton John or the Rolling Stones play in. But they bring in triple the subwoofers. Near the stage, its close to blurred vision bass. The bass is crazy loud. It really is triple loud compared to other famous bands. Of the really big and deep 5000 watt subwoofers, other bands bring 4 of these for the whole venue, they bring 12.
Deichkind.......the best ever German Music since äääähhhh decades.....the Lyrics are best ever ever ever........!!!!!!!!! Socially critical on point !!!
This song is a solid critics to consume culture of today. And yes, I thought they must have been high, either 😂 richtig gutes Zeuch! Please try out "Wer sagt denn das", the video is as crazy as this one.

But these Guys are just Art and to me they are far away from beeing HipHop.
In my Head they are in the Electropunk Section.
Their Songs “Bück dich hoch“ or “Arbeit nervt“ are just high Level Social Criticism like Punkrock.
Greets from Germany
"Very/ really good stuff"
A typical phrase when it comes to drugs is used here for everyday objects.
Richtig gut! :D
We listened to them as a rock band on the road 20 years ago. Legends and well respected by all genres!
you have to go and see one of their shows.
You gotta check out early stuff like "bon voyage" to see their development
Deichkind is probably the most unique band in Germany. They don't serve a singular genre, their music varies in style and every single track is characterized by professionalism and since 1997 they deliver on a level beyond anything else. At first glance it may seem a bit random and weird, but the lyrics are usually very deep, sometimes sarcastic and sometimes with hidden references. There are also sometimes hidden easter eggs in the videos that refer to something.
The live shows are very famous and even there deichkind show the same level of professionalism
I find your reaction to deichkind (and also to older german hip hop) very fascinating and would be happy if you would bring more reactions to this.
A good example of the scope of the different styles would be “Luftbahn”, I'm sure you'd be very surprised :)
The way I only watch music videos through you. I love Deichkind, and they're especially good live!
your videos are so fun to watch bro great stuff
If you like some unusual music in that style, here are my suggestions:
Großstadtgeflüster - Feierabend
Dicht und Ergreifend - Wandadoog
257er - Holz
Die Orsons - Ventilator
I am from Germany and I was blown Away by this one also. They have these typical phrases from the northern Dialect like “Krig die Tür nich mehr zu “ which is like you can’t believe it (mouth wide open). And this under cool way of saying those things is actually also very typical for the northern people. They don’t talk a lot and if so almost with no emotions. The phrases are very well picked funny samples of expressing rare and good and especially stuff that is not needed at all. Like the pearl catalog ha ha!
I'd very much love to recommend Deichkind's "Dinge" ("Things"), a splendid critique on consumerism that can be found on their official youtube-page. 😊
@@deinpapa3769 Classics from their early days :)
„Komm schon“ is another nice one of their old stuff.
😅🥳 It's not easy to translate. To special. So funny and strange.🤪
I love deichkind for their music and especially their videos.
They are weird in a good way.
Also "Dinge" from Deichkind is phantastic
Their live performances are amazing as well, I saw thwm on a few music festifals, neon lights, trampolins, many costumes etc... 👌
Deichkind is one of the best german bands 👍💪🇩🇪
It is nice to see that you do the reactions for german songs. Props from Germany!
One of my favorite Deichkind Songs!
😂 love your reaction.. yesss Deichkind is „sick“, weird and so very good
First of all - they are a rabbit hole and highly respected in germany from all musicians, because they are pure artists and absolute successful because they are not interested in success.
Now you have to see some of their live performances. This is where they became legends.
Deichkind! Meine Jugend!! 🤪🤪 German Musik!! 🫡🎉 Nennt sich Freiheit!! ❤❤
The naked guy also played somewhat of a big role in "White Noise" alongside Adam Driver.
They are dancing on the edge of madness, genius, critique of consumerism and celebrating it all at the same time, in my opinion the most intellectual German rap band while being extremely entertaining at the same time.
I think you would really enjoy watching a live act of Deichkind ;)
Deichkind is awesome! It's art, not 'only' music.
The way they deliver the lyrics is Hamburg slang, Low German from the coast. Deichkind is brillant.
Highly rated since decades!
There's very few people that cannot find anything good about DK, and those are usually not worth bothering with
Come here and watch one of their shows. You will not regret it. So crazy and cool. I love Deichkind
The beat drop of Deichkinds "keine Party" is the best
Deichkind.......the best ever German Music since äääähhhh decades.....the Lyrics are best ever ever ever........!!!!!!!!! Socially critical on point !!!
"are these the real lyrics?" Yes. 😄
The “kind” in Deichkind is pronounced with a short “i” like in Kindergarten. “Deich” means seawall/dike and “kind” child
This song is a solid critics to consume culture of today. And yes, I thought they must have been high, either 😂 richtig gutes Zeuch! Please try out "Wer sagt denn das", the video is as crazy as this one.
They are huge here. The lyrics are es awesome es beat and Video!
Real good stuff
Deichkind are high tier memers. Almost all their videos have meme references in them, this one is peppered with them...
If you understand the Text, then there are so much more layers of art on top. Love Deichkind and visited a lot of concerts. They do this art show on stage also. If you ever have a chance to see them live, absolutely go and get the experience.
Next :) Deichkind - Wer sagt denn das, click captions it has english sub
Richtig gutes Zeug...❤
Schwer zu kriegen!
Underrated by younger generation 😢
Loved by us 🦖🦕over 30 😂
since 2000 or so…
Deichkind at it’s best!! 🔥👌🏼
Check out "Dinge" by Deichkind....also a good combo of killer beat, good raps and an amazing video.
Yeah! DK is pure Art
