Franco just want to say thanks again for making all the tutorials. Any time I get stuck I can go back through your extensive playlist and find the information I need. Really this is an invaluable reference collection for amateur lure builders. Thank you.
Great job and beautiful lure! One of the things I'm enjoying in your videos is the water footage. That aspect really brings it home and completes the tutorial! The extra time it takes to do that is much appreciated.
I tried building my first lipless lure, followed your sizes (so I thought) to the letter, put the weight high up and it swam like the Red October on a crazy ivan manoeuvre ! It was way too light, sort of corkscrewed around, clipped the surface.... not good. I added some weight well forward and low and it was a great improvement. Then I found these comments and now I feel a whole lot better... its not just me ! Experience is a hard lesson to learn, keep up the technical stuff I'm learning so much.
As an engineer who specialized (in school mind you) in fluid dynamics and hydraulics I just wanted to say that not only do your videos provide a much needed refresher on the basics for me I also appreciate the work you’ve obviously put in to applying those principles effectively to lure design. The infinite variables that go into how a lure performs is daunting, if it wasn’t they would have an app for that. You have done an excellent job of showcasing the things that matter most from the things that might matter sometimes and making that distinction is a truly invaluable skill that only incredible passion combined with incredible perseverance can supply. I have the degree so what… without what you share I would be a lifetime behind where I am and god knows how much money (well more money haha) in the scrap bucket of failed designs. Thank you sir.
I've learned a ton from your channel. I have been binge watching lure making channels for a couple of months and figured I have some of this all figured out. Ha! Cutting baits isn't a issue, however spraying them is more of a challenge then I would of thought. Cleaning the airbrush between colors is a royal pain. All of these videos make it look fairly simple but it's not as easy as I looks. Besides being a engineer you're also a fantastic artist! Thanks for your efforts in posting the videos. Just know it's certainly appreciated. I look forward to the next episode.
I think this is one of your best videos. It provided solid scientific guidance without being difficult for us non-engineers to follow. You are one of my favorite UA-cam lure makers - always look forward to upcoming videos.
Hace 3 dias vengo viendo videos para hacer mis propios señuelos... Y usted Sr es un verdadero maestro... Mañana comienzo a fabricar los mios. Muchas gracias por su video.
Very cool!! Glad I found the channel! As an engineer it’s great to see all of the design issues and details that go into a lure that no one ever thinks about. Thanks for the videos!
Hi, I really enjoyed this video a lot! Nice and very clear building lure guidelines for all of us in the catching fishes field......just wondering to see some fishes being hooked up!!!! Take care...
I keep making lipless crank baits that always seem to have the same problem. I followed the same principles shown in this video and I think the problem is that the tail of my lure is probably too thick. Well for my next lure I’ll design one with a narrow tail. Hopefully that solves the problem of the lure having little action
I also tried putting the lead at the belly of the lipless crank bait and I believe it gives it more action. I think it just depends on the shape of the lure itself.
Seriously I really enjoy your videos. I thought I could just put an eye on top with weight towards the front... not the case. Thank you for this video. I’ve only been making lures for a few months. Things I have difficulties with are, making lips symmetrical, and painting with different nozzles. There are many videos out there, but none of them really explain the nozzle and needles. I have been painting with a , actually I’m not sure, it came with nozzle and needle in it already. It’s great for covering not so great for details so a video on nozzle and needle types would be awesome. I also have an idea for a top water or crank bait with a replaceable tail that would come out the back of the lure like a muskrat. I want to be able to use different color soft plastics, So I have to design a pin or something that would lock the tail in the center hole at the back of the lure, but also is able to be taken out and not too bulky. Any guidance or ideas would be cool thanks for the videos. I really enjoy the technical side of lure making, since I usually like to wing it
Thank you so much. The truth is that you can "wing-it" and have some success. I do it all the time, I just start shaping and build a lure. The issue comes in when you want to repeat your success or correct a failure. Thank you and good luck with your lures.
Hello, ohhh I couldn’t watched until today, such such a great job, wowww me and my girlfriend love the purple color and they swimming amazing, well done buddy. I am now working in the computer for the new minnow sinking design and you inspire me a lot. I suggest the next video will be about how you use the airbrush it means heads and diameters of needles and the distance you must do it to have a properly job with the lures. As well as could be the quantity of water or aqua mix you use to make more liquid the paint and the needle distance ??? It is a lot things but we want to learn for the best 🤙🏼🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
Hey Franco , I was wondering if you could Make a video on the acción of the different accions you can actually get with liure lips Because they are narrow , straight, square rounded etc . Some at deeper and others in shallow Etc. Thanks 🙏 Jesse from RustyLures
Great Video! Currently working on a large muskie sized version but with all the ice up here in Canada it's a bit hard to test the action! Very helpful hints on the weighting! Can't wait to see your 6" version video! Do you have a video of the 'flea'? wanted to build a floating version that will dive when retrieved...
Could be...that was not the most controlled test that's for sure. But I have done the fin to the top method a few times and so far it seams to give it a bit more amplitude.
Those are awesome! I can see them catching lots of fish. I wonder how large you can make one and still have good action. The salt water one would be killer for some big reds where I fish.
Sweet builds. I've been messing around with lipless cranks lately. It has been a struggle. Some swim, most don't. I haven't tried moving the weight toward the top, but will do so after watching your video. Keep the fantastic content coming! And I'd still love to see you tackle a surf darter plug.
Enjoyed the video, putting fins on seem to cause a better stability in the movement, which have taken on board. Looking forward to you finishing your boat.
i have watched this several times because i have built a couple before and was really humbled by their poor performance. I have crankbaits down to where i can adjust the diving lip angle, size and shape to get a tight wobble to a large wobble. rarely do they give me issues. Lipless however is another story lol. so, thanks Franco I will try the measure ments and weight placement to see if I can get something that is satisfactory. Well done video as always!!!
Nice lures, so the fin placement does make a difference 👍 how about a 7" one piece slow sinking glide bait? Think that would be interesting! Good luck with building the chanel this year buddy
Why the weight must be above the center line instead of under that line? I've made a couple last year with lead on the bottom part of the head and they work very well
Yes me too...I have put the weight low and forward on the lure and had good success but, the action quality is less predictable, with some lure not working at all. This has been my biggest frustration with lipless cranks, there are a huge variety of sizes and shapes that work but, somehow I have a talent for finding the combination that won't work. With this arrangement I have a really high degree of confidence that the lure will be a good one.

@@EngineeredAngler I’m on it and been binge watching your channel today (finally back to the office and not a lot of work to do). Wishing you lots of success with the channel and I am sure it will come, keep at it.
The fin directly affects the boundary layer and shed wakes from the trailing edge. The dorsal and pectoral fins work in tandem (probably important in swimbaits.) Several interesting papers on the fluid dynamics of fish fins: academic.oup.com/icb/article/50/6/1155/629042 web.mit.edu/towtank/www/papers/drag-reduction-fish.pdf Your video does a great job in analyzing crankbait design!
Thank you for watching and thanks for the links. One of the big reasons that I am reluctant to use fins on my lures is that they tend to dampen good lure action. It's easy to forget that on a fish, fins are active control and propulsion devices. On a lure they are static surfaces that are usually only there for esthetics and end up being more of a design liability than a benefit. On these types of crankbaits though, they appear to be a possible strategy for better action. The price for the better action is a reduction in dynamic stability. Choose your poison...I guess😉.
Very complete video sir! You asked for suggestions... what about a long casting Tarpon lure? Would be curious to see what you come up with! I have made a few designs work pretty decent in my shop. If you have a moment, check them out on instagram roggies_rigs 🤙 Once again, great vid and build sir!
Don't even use those calculations I make the lure and you feel the lower you don't you know it in your head so you just carve it you carve what you feel and you don't have to put weights in it you put your hooks on it put them in the right spot bingo you don't even need the weights I've been doing them that way for 40 years and they've been good lures

How to measure the density of wood when you don't know what kind of wood is it to add a weight to make an lure
I explain the process in most of my lure builds, watch one of the build in this playlist.

I hope this is satire
