I was hoping for a long time you would make a video about the engeneering behind WtD. And just as started designing my first topwater Pencile I get the notification about this upload. What a coincidence! I realy appreciate the effort you put into explaining your thinking and process. Greetings from a german engeneering student.
Hey, das passt ja wie die Faust aufs Auge! Habe jetzt fast 30 Minuten damit verbracht um eine Übersetzung für „Center of Drag“ zu finden. Stoße immerzu auf „Center of Preasure“. Nach welchem deutschen Fachbegriff muss ich suchen? Liebe Grüße

Hi there, this video is just wonderful and the lure action is super. The painting pattern, lure action and the balance are just perfect. Thanks again. Take care.
Hey Franco. Another great, informative video. Caught my first fish on handmade lures today. A 2.5 square bill and a popper. What a great feeling. I’m sure they wouldn’t have turned out as good without your guidance. Thanks.
I don’t know what part of Florida you are in but I’m on the Gulf Coast of Louisiana and we get our weather about a day ahead of y’all. It’s been crazy this spring. That bait turned out awesome. I love walk the dog baits.
Love your channel and it has inspired me to make many lures for my fishing in NZ. As a noobie I would love to hear about how to handle the mind games lures play on us if they don't get the results. Cheers
Sure: The tow eye needs to be below so that when you twitch the line it moves the head up on-to the water not into the water. This allows for the walk the dog action. The low tail eye will help with roll stability if it is below the center line. If it is at the center line it will not contribute to stability and if it is above, it will hurt the stability. Hope that helps.
I make lures also what i do for my wire is to drill hole thŕough the lure i put a swivel through acentre hole and put the wire thŕough one hole in the swivel
Hi Franco. I noticed you like to rotate the wet lure before you turn on the us lights, to break bubbles. What about putting your lights on a delay timer? Then you can forget it once you start it. Thanks for everything.

Cool video, again, thanks ! You should definitely make a weedless version of this lure, it's frustrating not to be able to fish these weeds because of your trebbles... By the way, could you make a video on the making of a lure that would be a combination of hard body with plastic/changeable/jointed tail ?
Thank you so much! Ist the Center of Drag the same like the Center of Preasure? Or is ist the Same, but horizontal... I have problems understanding this and translating it correctly into german
The center of drag is a theoretical concept, it is the place on a body where all the drag friction forces would theoretically act if those forces were focused on one spot.
Hello !!! I want to ask you a question, because when I bring the lure the multifilament makes circular movements I see it in the union with the water from time to time and the lure appears on the surface and goes down again, it has a not very large paddle and the weight in front and behind the socket that is located in the third part of the body, more or less 3 or 4 grams. in each perforation in a lure of more or less 20 grams. Thank you !!!!
For clear coat im using East coast resin, you suggested in early videos. i am having issue, it takes too long to get dry. when it should be dry and how i faster the process? For example, do i need UV light or smth? please help
Hi from an Italian fan, congratulations on the videos. Do I need a couple of tips: 1) is there an inexpensive silent compressor for airbrushing? 2) how did you create the steel wire to keep the lure steady?
There are small airbrush tankless compressors that are under $80. They all are a little noisy but you can put it in a closet or cabinet. To see how I make the wire twist eyes watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/ckZ1utNf_4s/v-deo.html
Either you have the perfect rod motions and 6 speed reel, or thats the most perfect wtd lure. Have you made any wtd subsurface lure, thats suspending or barely sinking ?
@@EngineeredAngler Yes i found the stickbait video yesterday, looks amazing. I dont know if i saw anyone else making lures with such precision. Usually others just make it with random measures and just keep fixing it. While you do it perfect immediately. True engineer
Love your channel Great video. One thing I am having difficulty with is. Bill size and shape. I make a nice looking bait figure the bill is perfect for the size, BUT not much if any action. Is it the angle at which the bait is being pulled that is the issue? Or do I need more weight in the front? I have decided it also has to be about the buoyancy of the wood, because the cedar carved baits , were not as active as others. Is there anything you can help me with on this? Like the more buoyant a steeper lip? Or more weight or both? Or a different angle in which it’s pulled? I believe the cedar needs more weight right behind lip, and I will try that tomorrow. Was hoping you had some expertise to give. Thank you in Adavanced! Love your channel
I say this a lot and, although the number of variables that go into a good crankbait design is huge, the best place to start when you have a lure that is not working well is at the tie on eye. I would take the lure and bend the eye away from the lip, test it , then bend it down towards the lip and test again. You will see some improvement is one of those adjustments. Then its a matter of following that improvement with more adjustment or design change.
Not necessarily. Remember you have to have drag forward and weight to the back. Pencil poppers have very narrow heads and that can mean very little drag forward. All all that said, I do have a really nice pencil popper that walks the dog like a champ.
I am from Germany and I enjoy your channel very! I hope you make one time a clip about the weights in a lure. E.g. How to plant a weight to create a certain type of movement

Nice bait sir! Paint job is stellar! What was that mesh size? Great effect!
Thanks. I'm not sure on the mesh size...sorry
hi, how we can find where is the center of drag?
That is something you can't directly calculate. You have to intuit, best guess.

If you're have problems with the lure spinning or tolling, your lure is not tuned or the dive lip is not installed square to the lure.
@@EngineeredAngler I do not understand what it means the dive lip is not installed square to the lure.
I drill ahole from back to front of the lure drill ahole in belly put aswivel inthe hole and pass the wire through one hole in the swivel
I do not understand what it means the dive lip is not installed square to the lure.
Hey! Love the videos! Was wondering what size you use to drill the hole for the weight ? Thanks!
Since I use split shot sinkers as weight, I just use the drill bit the best fits the split shot I happen to be using.
For clear coat im using East coast resin, you suggested in early videos. i am having issue, it takes too long to get dry. when it should be dry and how i faster the process? For example, do i need UV light or smth? please help
Yes it takes at least 24 hours much more in cold weather. To help set it faster keep it in a warm space at 75 degrees F
or warmer.
Thank's a lot. I thought i was doing something wrong
Does the wattage on a uv lamp matter?
It matters quite a bit...it determines how long it takes to set the resin.

@@EngineeredAngler Sorry if my English is not perfect, I meant what you show us in this video at 14:49 minute.
A lovely lure, were you using a ordinary nail file to send down the last bits, if so thing that's ingenious.
They are sanding boards very similar to nail files but a bit more durable and they have coarse grit on one side and fine on the other.
Awesome job as always! What was the box of sticks for, do you use them to make lures?
No😁...that box of wood is for smoking fish. I had an orange tree freeze a couple of years ago and I kept the wood for my smoker.
