Your methods of transferring pattern to the foil tape is brilliant! Well done... this is the first video of yours I have watched, and I will certainly be watching more.
Thank you very much, I appreciate it!
omg, your popper lures are GORGEOUS
Thank you so much!
That lure is awesome
Thank you very much!
This has got to be the tenth or more time of watching this video and I am still amazed by the transformation that the final topcoat has on the lure! I guess I will be back again lol. Thank you for sharing your video, take care my friend 👍😷👍🏴
Thank you very much for your support, I really do appreciate it!
I have been making my own lures since the mid 70s. We fished for Walleyes and Yellow Perch. Now I have moved to Florida and it's a different game. I will have to learn how to make Bass lures. I have found the right teacher. Great job.....Bill
Thank you very much, I really appreciate that!
And a new UA-cam Lure King is crowned. Congrats. The old king isnt even close.
You are too kind! Seriously, thank you for your support!
I came here after watching all of Marling Baits videos, the bar for bait making content was set high and you blew past it, I love how you teach while you go and how calm and quiet it is. I subscribed and will be watching all your videos haha.
Thank you Daniel for your kind words, I really appreciate it!
This guy has more skill and is more instructional but not nearly as entertaining as Marling Baits, found myself waiting for him to be funny lol
@@DaveGeelong There's nothin funny bout lure makin...its serious business. Ha! Thanks for watching!
Same as you Daniel!
I agree, I found the channel a few weeks ago, he is very calm and is teaching us while hands on lure making.
bro i watch your videos over and over. you are a very beautiful person
Thank you very much, I appreciate it!
I found a nice little trick for placing the eyes. Clip the cotton off the end of a q-tip and glue a small piece of masking tape to it and trim the excess tape around the tip. It holds the eye pretty well so it can be placed accurately.
Thanks for the great vids!
Great idea, thanks for watching!
Loved the talk about whittling when you were a kid, and the skills coming to be useful today! I definitely agree!
Absolutely! I've also been teaching my son to whittle lately.
Yeah I'm 14 and I still carve lures and stuff
100% Goldfish! I learned a lot. Thanks for a great vid!
You are very welcome, thank you for watching!
Wonderful amazing. Very nice.
Thank you very much!
Man this is great ! I just finished whittling out my second ever lure today . My first is a top water popper and the second is a jitterbug lure. They’re crude and painted with rattle can paint but it’s a great feeling to make something with just a pocket knife and some time. Thanks for the great video I’m inspired to get better at it.
Glad to hear from you. Best of luck with your lure making. Thanks for watching!
Nice idea with the foil
Thanks, it really gives it a shine that is hard to replicate with paint.
A little tiny ball of Blu Tack applied to the end of anything thin like a Q tip with the cotton cut off makes picking up the eyes easy every time. Easy does it because it holds Good. Nice lure and thanks for showing us how you like to do it 👍
Thanks for the tip and for watching!
I feel the same way about skills you learn as a kid. You always end up going back to the basics. I love whittling. Even if I'm not trying to make anything.
So true, thanks!
I enjoyed the stories they remind me of my upbringing.
Thanks for watching!
You are gifted great job I've enjoyed watching God bless

Hi, There I'm New here and really enjoy your shows. Thank U. I'm a bird carver and I totally enjoy fishing and really like your painting skills. I would like to experiment and try to carve a few fish lures to give to my grandsons with my and their names on them. I like your technique and especially your logo idea so I can print it. I was already brainstorming how to a "WHAM" u showed it. LOL..Really Many Thanks for sharing.

Восхищаюсь Вашей работой!
Thank you very much for your support!
I fished the Conejos river in Colorado, staying at a cabin community someone i knew parents owned. i remember never catching anything, but was amazed how fast that water was.
Yes, I've fished the Conejos my whole life and there are plenty of trips I caught nothing. From what we were told, whirling disease got pretty bad there so they stopped stocking it. I saw plenty of fish on that last trip we took which was encouraging.
Very good job, bro! Your arms are growing out of the right place!
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for a cool video demonstrating your craftsmanship... Congrats on the new stool!
Thanks, the stool is kindova big deal. Ha! I appreciate your support!
Excellent from start to finish! I like your drying rack too. Great lesson in lure making. You just got another subscriber.
Thank you so much, I appreciate it!
Please use a vice for the drilling. It makes me nervous...I drilled in my finger once. Went through the glove and I was cutting into steel so I had to clean the shavings out. Anyways just don't want you to get hurt.
Thanks Dustin, I'll be very careful! I appreciate your support!
Thank you very much beautiful video

Absolutely a master sir you are so talented!

Great idea 👌 I think I might have to make myself a set, I'm damn sick of my lures slipping around in my vice and if I do it up to tight it dings the wood.looks like a great solution to the problem 👌 great job as always mate 👍😁
Yes, I got by for a long time with duct tape, but I finally got around to a more permanent solution. Thanks for watching!
Excellent video. Thank you for sharing this very informative content

Take a picture of your lures and put color ones on tee shirt and a nice logo that will do the trick for me !!!!!!!!!
Great suggestion!
Hi, it’s impressive the way that sunbrite yellow came out on the aluminum, I have to make a golden shiner. Thanks

Thats impressive work well done i started making my own lures a few years ago The lures i make for our type of catfish it doesn't have be perfect i even caught alot other species thanks for the video
Thank you so much for watching! That's great that you make successful catfish lures. Keep up the good work!
Good job
Thanks!
It appears your eye package is an assortment of sizes. That would be handy. Where did you get them? Also, if you said what your clear coat is I missed it. I think it’s some type two part epoxy, but not sure
Your workmanship is outstanding. Thanks.
I found those eyes on Amazon. I actually don't remember what clearcoat I was using at the time, but I reccomend either East Coast Resin or TrueCoat which are both 2-part epoxies. I have links to most of the products I use on my website:

Learned a lot. Thanks. Excellent craftsmanship.
Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching!
Thanks
Helpful tip. Cut a toothpick in half with a razor, put your glue on a peice of trash hard plastic then use the toothpick to apply the glue to the lure. It will put a perfect little dot of glue for the eyes. Beautiful lures man!!
Thanks for the tip and for watching!
Thank you for sharing brother 👍
Many thanks!
Congratulations for your videos and your Channel. I was wondering if you can do a vidio whith the real way of paint lures. I mean, I don’t want to say your videos are not real, what I mean is if you can splain times of wait between surface and surface of Color, how you clean the airbrush when change the colors and this tipe of things that are a big questions for the new People in airbrush world. I know it is more a airbrush lesson them a lure make But at list for me would result really interesting. Really grateful from Spain. And sorry for my english.
Thank you for watching my videos! That is a great suggestion! I do not know how long it will take me to make it, but I will add it to my list of ideas.

try using an extra thick version of super glue for the eye. it makes it easier.
Yes it is! It took me a while, but I finally got some. Thanks for watching!
Great job cool looking lure. Try using the gel super glue for the eyes use to have the same problem with eyes as you, until I started using the gel glue worked really good. Again.great work
Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try!
To get better control over the glue for the eye use Disposable Pre-Bent Dispenser Needle Tips
Thanks for the tip and for watching!
Whaddya call it when you mix all these styles of bait together and leave the lip off? A lip-less Frankenbait!

Amazing

Superb.

Hi there love the carving skills. I have just got into making some lures myself, only started a few months ago and really enjoying it. One thing i noticed was your hands are scar free. Mine after a few weeks look like i been ten rounds with Freddy Krueger. Anyhow practice makes perfect as they say. Going to give this one a try for sure. Great video.
Thank you for watching! I've been carving since I was a kid and have cut myself plenty of times. These days I try to be more careful. I'm happy to hear you are giving this a try. Good luck on your lure making journey!

Wow man that was really good, well done it looks awesome

You need the spiders ,whopper poppers, and snakes as well they work amazing
Thanks for your input, I do have a long list of lures to make. Hopefully I can get to them all.
Beautiful jobb, really👍👍👍with that time and job I understan the prices for the lures like this. Thanks for a very nice video👌🏻
I appreciate your support!
What type of wood do you prefer to make your lures out of? I’m thinking about attempting to make my own lipless crank bait…
Right now, my favorite wood is basswood because it's easy to carve & holds detail well.
Impressive! I’d love to get into lure making.
Careful, its addicting. Thanks for watching!
I’ve done several “pull out” test but always seems to fail.
And I have the kids to prove it!
Excellent!
Many thanks!
May I ask you a question please!... Is the ink indelible ink?
Yes I'm still finding this video amazing lol, must be in it's 30's that I've viewed it!!! Plus your other video of the larger version of lure👍😷👍🏴
According to the manufacturer, this ink is indelible. Thank you so much for your support!
What do you print the Decals with, Lazer or Inject? At what DPI?
Have you used the UV/Blacklight paints on your lures yet, I've just bought the green... Not seen anything like it before, ordering more colour's now I know they really light up. Not like the stuff that lasts for a few seconds after charging them with a torch!!! It dries clear so can be used on top of any colour, I've only tried on white and light colours... But it GLOWS unbelievably.
During research they have found out that fish are really sensitive to the UV, that's why CHARTREUSE works so well! I've not seen anyone on UA-cam use it on lures! I just thought that you of all people would make an excellent video of the UV paints.
Sorry, I am just now seeing your message. I print my decals with an inkjet printer at 300dpi, but they do have laser paper as well. You are right, I have not seen a lot of blacklight paints on lures. That's interesting, I did not know that fish were that sensitive to UV. Thank your for the suggestion, I will add that to my list!

Welcome Travis, glad to have you here!
some very nice techniques...do you have a video on your drying turner and snap on holders
Thank you! I actually haven't made a video on that but I can go over it in one of my upcoming videos.
Thank you so much love your work you’ve inspired me to start lure making over the winter months I generally make Native American flutes! May I make a suggestion? CA glue gel for your eyes! Will not run! Thanks again Robert from NJ
Glad to hear from you! I've got to get some of that glue. Good luck on your lures!
@@zimmtex well CA glue is literally just department store super glue if you are wondering. don't look too far my man
very prfect
Thanks!
Nice job well done
Thanks!
Have you ever added spinner blades to your lures ???????
I have not, but I've been thinking about a new design that has one.
The Engineered Angler did a test and 5 minute epoxy beat super glue easily. I use gorilla (Urethane glue) on some of mine because it expands. What wood did you use? Excellant job!!
For this test, I used 30 minute epoxy. Thanks for watching, I appreciate your support!
you do very well and beautiful
How much does a fake bait like that cost? 😃
Thank you! I'm not sure what a bait like this would sell for. Right now I don't sell lures; I'm just making them for the channel.
what kind of wood are you using here? Thanks
great job
Poplar, thanks for watching!
Yup the O0ld Sonic...
Or the Bayou Boogie.....
Thanks for stopping by!
Good👍👍
Thanks!
Great work and I have a question. Which wood is used? Thank you from Berlin, Germany
I used poplar. Thanks for watching!
@@zimmtex thank you for the reply
Very informative, You really stressed out with the glue ,IDK if this will help but if you put a smidge of glue on a toothpick then toothpick the backing of the eye you just have to drop the eye in place and you'll use much less glue. Also a louva might be easier to manage instead of wrapping with screen. You make an awesome lure.. ps if you wet area on lure before applying decal it will slide easier to desired spot
Thanks for your tips! I am always trying new ways of doing things. If you check out my new video coming out on Thursday, you will see I am using the toothpick method you are talking about. Thanks for watching!
hello great video.....but what do you use to pour the lead?
Thank you! I use a Lee Precision lead pot. I have links to most of the stuff I use on my website: www.zimmtexlures.com/productlinks

I’m impressed 👍. Could you share some links and suppliers where you get your paints and coatings?
Sure thing! Check out the description below the video; I will try to keep a complete list. Thanks for watching!
Good afternoon, I just wanted to say what a fantastic video this is, your technique for texturing the foil is genius! I'm really new to lure making, only started looking at making my own this week.
How strong is the connection between the hook hanger where they are glued into the wood? Are they strong enough for a big 30lb pike?
I only ask because I've seen other video where people make a wire frame I guess that's glued into a channel in the body where the hooks and main eyelet are all connected. (Sorry I'm not sure of all the technical language)
Thanks in advance for any light you can shine on my confusion.
Sam
Thank you for watching! Glad to hear about your lure making and I hope you find it as rewarding as I do. The twist wire method I used in this video is quite strong and would most likely hold up to a pike. However, if you know you are going after bigger fish, I recommend a through-wire. Check out my video "Making a Wooden 7" Minnow Lure." That one has a through-wire harness in a different configuration.
@@zimmtex Thanks for the information. What kind of wire do you use for the harness? I've had a look online but there is so many different types and diameters, I have no idea how strong they are either.
Thanks
@@drakeybabe I used stainless steel aircraft lock wire (.041") for this lure. It is very strong. For bigger lures I think I use .061".
