Dude, I'm 56 and was a jazz musician through out high school and missed all the rock music. I've been rediscovering it since the 80s. My granddaughter introduced me to this song while I was sitting and mourning my wife in 2016. I burst into tears at one point but assured my granddaughter that she did good and listened to it again and again. Now one of my favorite songs.

But isn't it inevitable? That idea that you're eventually going to join the Black Parade, and that we all have the responsibility instead to resist the despair that comes from everyone we know and love joining? If anything that fade-out sort of represents to me the Parade leaving with your loved ones, but you resisted the despair and let them go in peace.

You nailed it when you recognized the black parade was death. The whole album centers around the idea that when you die, death appears to you as your most powerful memory in order to ease your transition into death. You analyzed it perfectly. The characters most powerful memory was that parade when they were a child. The whole album tells the story someone's descent into death and him looking back on his life and coming to terms with it.

Great reaction! People are going to suggest their singles (understandably), but I'd highly recommend House of Wolves and Mama (both from The Black Parade). Ideally, listening through the entire Black Parade album would be amazing but I know it's a difficult reaction to listen through, edit, etc. Also, each of their albums sound way different from one another. Black Parade is definitely their most "rock opera" album. Thank you for this- MCR was a big part of my adolescence and is always fun to listen to.

  • @zackakai5173
    @zackakai5173 2 роки тому +27

Man I don't think I've ever seen anyone pick up on the thematic elements here as fast as you. You're absolutely right - according to Gerard Way (the singer), the idea of the song is that when a person dies, death comes for them in the form of their fondest memory. In the case of the Patient (the name of the character in the bed), that was his dad taking him into the city as a kid to see a parade, hence why death comes for him in the form of the Black Parade.
My personal headcanon is that this song can also be interpreted in a way to be about 9/11. "The bodies in the streets," the imagery of the skeletal walls of destroyed buildings, and of course the fact that MCR formed in the first place after Gerard Way personally witnessed the collapse of the WTC towers (as he happened to be in Manhattan that day) all lend credence to that idea IMO.

There are many biblical aspects in most music I listen to. I am Christian so that’s generally the music I connect to. In the Bible it also mentions trumpets sounding in the end which some could interpret as a marching band cause why would it just be one instrument? There is also teaching in the Bible that death is sorrowful but should also be celebrated for they go to be in heaven with God. I love finding Christian themes in secular music. Also, this WILL be playing at my funeral!

This reaction had me smiling so hard, it genuinely felt like I was hearing it for the first time which is crazy because I’ve heard this song hundreds of times, I skip it a lot nowadays because it’s so familiar. Watching this had me hearing things I’ve literally never heard before in the song. So cool. Also you were so spot on with the symbolism in this! It’s not super covert in it’s metaphors or anything but you even picked up on the “best memory” bit and that’s great!

In some countries. During funerals there is this sort of "parade" when the deceased is transported from the church to the graveyard. And I think the Black Parade is referring to that.

The year was 2006. I was just coming out of high school. This song was EVERYWHERE. I shunned MCR because so many people were raving about how great they were. It was cool to hate on this band.
The last 5 years or so I have realised how wrong it was to hate on them. Their music is draws on greats from the past (especially Queen) and creates something that is incredible, dark and uplifting at the same time.

I'm 63 and this was my most listened to song of 2022! Had teens when this came out and have early 20's now. Band from college '78-'82 that are classics now and continued to be open to new bands until my 4 kids listened to their fans. Now instead of birthday gifts, we all go to concerts on my husband and I. Three times 2022-23 for Falling in Reverse.. We even went to MSG for A7X with FIR for our anniversary. Welcome to the Black Parade is on practically all my playlists. You might enjoy The Umbrella Academy series written by Gerard and Mikey Way, the lead singer and the guitarist (brothers). You're not old, just catching up.

I was a 90's goth as a teen, so the emo phase wasn't something I was into at the time. I hated MCR, which I got over, but I could never deny that this song was amazingly written.

I was going through a very strong depressive state and MCR's music and Gerard's lyrics were better than any therapy, all the anger, sadness or any problem I had went away when I euphorically sang these songs. That music don't incite something negative as many said at that time, it was a medicine for many mental disorders. They helped me a lot, I am strong now.

As a drummer I also love the drums in this song but Ray Toro (their lead guitarist) is CRIMINALLY underrated as a rock guitarist. They have a lot of guitar solos but Gerard is often yelling something over them haha. But if you check out songs like The End/Dead!, House of Wolves, Thank You for the Venom, You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison, Bulletproof Heart, and Vampire Money you can hear Ray really tear it up.

You should do reactions to the black parade album which this song is part of. It tells this story of "the patient" who is dying from cancer and his struggles and so on. My favorites are "welcome to the black parade", "dead!", "I don't love you" and without a doubt "famous last words" that one is a banger!

This man would have actually been so amazing to listen to analyzing the album from start to finish - the way he nails this song but without even the context that the whole ALBUM is a contiguous story/opera - to hear his reaction to Cancer - "deceptively complex" - he gets it.

as a girl who was born in 02 with parents that don't listen to rock, MCR was a great way for me to get into rock, punk, metal, etc., because unlike a lot of bands before the turn of the century, the MCR fandom is a lot less male dominated. i didn't feel the need to "know 3 songs" or whatever, i can just get into bands at my own pace without twitter getting mad lol

Most of the bands in that genre are not male oriented... on purpose there is a reaason the movies that also were Huge at that time were focused on young female and emotion driven stories... it Twilight, hunger games etc .... during that time it was a Phenomenon
