I have a 3 year old Mission and it’s been a good reliable bike. Got the rack, kickstand, upgraded seat post, fenders, a basket, and studded tires for winter use. The radwagon has also been good but less reliable.

Yep the range is key plus don't let scuffed pedals put you off some people are more careless or ride the bike harder doesn't mean its been crashed if everything's good and like the other comment says the long3st range is what you want

Good advice, however, what if those crash damaged components were changed out?
As an amateur bike mechanic I know that cables, pedals, and hand grips are cheap, a rim can be trued, touch up paint can be used, and saddles are easily changed.

Used bikes are very common, additionally I personally don’t know of anyone who keeps a receipt for a store bought bike. I’ve purchased numerous bikes, huffy, schwinn, mongoose, genesis, they make great basic pedal bikes and good conversion bikes and I don’t keep receipts, bikes-including ebikes, are not motorcycles, you don’t register them where I live.

Good video as I was wondering how long ebikes would last. I have a Mars almost 2 years old & the headlight/horn switch shorted in a puff of smoke after it was stolen but dumped 2 properties away. The 115db alarm & the fact the chain was removed & he was being chased made him abandon the theft attempt. 😂 How long do you think a folding frame will last if the rest replaced as needed?

Another place to check are the two bearings in the head set. A bad seal will let in grit killing the bearing. Looseness could be an adjustment, but it could also mean a bad bearing, and these require special tools to get the races out.
I also like how you're giving back to your followers ... another great job 👍

Great video! Much needed as we've shifted in our point in history to there being a secondary and tertiary market for ebikes. With that said, I would strongly recommend pinching all the money you could to buy the ebike you want completely new and from the company. There are many reasons for this - firstly you're pricing in customer service (for most ebike companies), secondly, in this day and age, you can't put a price on direct purchase warranties - they absolutely are necessary I've seen quite a few be used, thirdly, there's far more transparency in this purchase. There are many more reasons to highly recommend to buy new - ebikes are actually not that expensive to begin with - spending 2-3k on a new ebike vs. Purchasing it for half that price used is not alot of money in today's economy. As Micah pointed out, unless it's a significant savings - something to the likes of 75% or so - stretch your wallet a bit more, you'll be happy you did and your ride will be that much more enjoyable, and you may thank yourself later should any headaches arise from the bike.

  • @Burden82

i own 2 ebike and i have fall with them multible time because of slipping on ice. and they have scratches and the break leaver is bet but thats about it. so those are not good indicators to say the bike not good anymore. also cheap bikes can easily go for 5 years. the battery is the only thing that runs out of juice but you get 3 years easy before you need to replace it or buy new cells for it. i run ebikes every day rain or shine so they have seen use alot and the weather range is +30c to-30c where i live. i still own my first ebike that is basic china bike and it works just fine after 4,5 years. you just cant go as far. ive done 5000+km with it and only thing i have changed is the seat and back tire couple of times

Mike i need help i bought a used bike and it suddenly died ...the socket the holds the axis of the motor on one side is rolled so the axis keeps spinning and it damage the cable of the motor on the other side, it didn't ripped the cable all the way because i noticed the bike noise when the axis spinned ( the nut came lose or wasnt tight enough but anyways the axis has a groove flat parts that should prevent the axis from spinning so the frame is at fault ( i guess ) the socket has a gap now i dont have anything that small and strong to fill that gap and the ideal situation would be welding that piece into the frame socket but i dont have a welder ...epoxy? i think if there was only 1 thing a person should buy new other than underwear its electric bikes. I bought one from a pawn shop for £200 i thought it was fine until the battery kept going off when i rided it on bumpy roads and up hills. Theres just too many problems with the electrics that you wont discover until a couple of days in using a ebike. A quick 10 min viewing and test ride wont necessarily battery or wiring problems it didnt with me.

    Otherwise - avoid!

Sounds like pre-fab e-bikes are too much of a gamble, even new. My DIY e-bikes are 7 years old or more with nothing but routine (accoustic) bike maintenence. The first conversion was on a 10 year old bike that I'm still riding. I do have 1 battery that's showing it's age, with limited range, but still works fine.
If you're spending $100 on tires for common size basic tires you're spending too much.

@@captainflannel8558 I don't like Amazon for kits. Just in case there are issues, I want a vendor I can depend on for support. If you want to learn about mid-drives I suggest the JohnnyNerdOut channel. He does a live broadcast on Wednesdays at 9pm where you can ask any questions you might have. He also has a store, gives consults & does builds. I bought my kits from LunaCycles years ago but they concentrate on things like the Talaria now, not the DIY kits.
I have used the Bafang BBS02 & the BBSHD. They are practically bulletproof reliable but not as finessed as an LBS mid-drive. What kit to use depends a lot on what you want from your e-bike.
If you plan on using the same battery you'll have to get a kit that uses the same voltage & doesn't exceed the max amp output of the battery. That may complicate things a bit but is doable with research.

What is a reasonable fee to pay a bike shop to install the swych kit? If I just want to ride around the city... How many hours can I ride? Can it handle a grade.. Or small hills? And I'm in a high theft area.... So I think it just detaches and comes with me.... But how do I get it on amd off the bike? Is it easy? And is the battery pack heavy 9f I take it off and carry it with me into a shop.... Please do a video..... And... I would love to enter the bikes for good for a rad trike as I am 300lb disabled...
