Badd Medicine here and it's Avatar Airbender reaction time
The series is set in a world inspired by various Asian and Indigenous cultures where certain people can "bend" one of the four classical elements-water, earth, fire, or air. Aang, the "Avatar" and the last living Airbender, is the bridge between the mortal and spirit worlds, and the only one capable of bending all four of the elements instead of just one. The Avatar maintains the balance of the world and nature to bring peace, and Aang is now faced with the responsibility of ending the ambitions of the militaristic Fire Nation to conquer the world. With his new companions Katara and Sokka, Aang sets out to master the four elements while pursued by Zuko, the exiled crown prince of the Fire Nation, who seeks to regain his honor by capturing him

It's not "you aye". Yue is one syllabus. It's similar "yet" without T.
No it failed miserably. Especially with the writing of the female characters.
@@RonLarhz its a name in a fictional world. How it’s pronounced and spelled in the show and the animation is what it is. Dont nit pick over a name.
As for season 1 it had its ups and downs. I don’t think they failed miserably; they did get a lot right. It’s not a recreation of the animation as an edition to it. They added some new story lines, kept the major plot points and even mentioned stories in the animation we saw in the animation but didn’t need to see it again in live action. Its not a fail but its not perfect 7/10
guys start watching Spartacus TV series
Okay, so I waited until the final episode, instead of going episode through episode by episode to give a much fuller post, I hope you guys don't mind but, here I go.
So, when I started hearing all of the criticism, especially on social media, I was shocked, really shocked and disheartened, I don't want to go too far into that because this is my take b but I wanted to at least put it out there.
So then. I watched it, and honestly, my rating hasn't changed, I would give it a 6.9. It was okay as a standalone and it was ok as a re-imagining. But here's why.
When people started watching, someone they were critical of it at basically the very start was Katara, they felt that the acting felt flat, that she didn't put out enough emotion. And, Bad Medicine, guys thank you so much for NOT TRASHING THE ACTORS. This to me was really important. Because, I do agree with the majority, the presentaion did feel flat, BUT I do not blame her actress, I have full confidence in her ability, I may be in the minority but oh well.
Real talk here, the writing betrayed them.
The most animated scene, that's just full of life that we see from her is when she is trying to convince Aang that he needs to train, Aang is struggling because he has never trained with anyone else, so she's just like "Okay, fine I'll just use you as target practice." and they proceed to just play in the water.
Why did that scene work, because there is really no other way to translate that than to just let them be kids, let them improvise, they are literally at play.
Almost every scene after that, it felt staged, it felt like they were being told exactly what to say and how to say it, they put theatircs over emotion and, unfortunately, more and more these days it seems there is a difference. Theatrics feels more rigid, feels more like they want it a certain way and so everything, including the emotion is determined.
The same problem I feel happend with Aang, a lot of people in the beginning and even know comment that Gordon lacks "Aang Energy." I agree. On set. but, thats because they decided to write about this more "focused Aang." its no longer about the kid who never wanted to be the Avatar. Though he does mention it in the beginning, it turns more into "You are the Avatar now lace up your boot-straps because you have work to do, things to make up for."
(just so that its not too long in one sitting I'm going to break up this responce here.)
When Zuko says, “I’m tired,” I feel that.
It reminds me of when in the animated series, Aang returns to Katara and Sokka after pulling an all nighter escaping Fire Nation custody, with the help of the Blue Spirit. And then Sokka asks if he made any new friends, and Aang says “No. I don’t think I did.” My heart breaks for both live action Zuko and animated Aang every time I see it.
@@Asher1347 yea i agree
Fun fact: writer said they reshoot this koizilla scene last year that's why he looks older coz it's 14 years old gordon not 12 years old.
:o😮😮😮😮
This is my take on showing what happened to Momo. I think it was a foreshadowing scene for new fans. We see Pakku give Katara the vial of the spirit water. We as fans know what she’s going to do with it. But showing how awesome it is to heal Momo shows new fans just how powerful that water is.
Remember Azula is Zuko’s YOUNGER sister. So they casted her well.
She was always pretty but it was her menacing behaviour the made her seem older. This is a realistic portrayal of Azula’s character.
And June is 38 is real life lol she would seem like Zuko’s older sister. Remember guys…she’s younger.
And I def think she’ll be scary in season 2 cause they set her up well here. The actress did her best❤
The actress is fine the way they’ve written her is not
They changed the character completely to have her full of self doubt and jealous of her brother
@@tracim3080 in the discussion they were talking mostly about the casting of Azula herself…not the writing.
*However,* what you said regarding the *portrayal of her character,* i slightly disagree. It’s unrealistic for anyone to behave the way they do for no reason. She was obviously threatened yes, not necessarily insecure and jealous. It’s her character development BEFORE she becomes a confident badass. We still have 2 more seasons lol obviously her character won’t stay stagnant. Plus she’s 14 lol💀……
Also if you remember in the animation, SHE DOES exhibit extreme signs of insecurity in the FINAL episode. She finally CRACKED and all of her doubts, insecurities, mummy issues etc came pouring out. Now THATS what I can’t wait to see.🔥 They are subtly setting it up so it’s more of a realistic TRAGIC and almost sad downfall. We all hated her but damn her last scene was tragic af😂😂
Zuko also being the 1st born heir to the throne has ALWAYS bothered Azula so wdym?😭🙏 it’s always been a theme.
@@daniellaaa24 The original reason Azula was like that is because she always did well. She was always praised for doing it. She was a little psycho and everybody loved her for it.
The fire nation was backwards and praised to the wrong things. That’s the entire point of her character.
And some people actually are born Lucky
And they do start to snap once they get older child prodigie.
She’s a child prodigy who has everything going for her and then her world gets flipped upside down when it turns out her brother who she always thought was the loser is on the right side her friends betrayed her and chose his side and she loses to him.
Her mental snap in season three is amazing because of how it got there because she was so perfect that as soon as one thing went wrong, she completely started to snap
That’s a type A personality that many people can relate to
We have other characters for the insecure bit
@@tracim3080 I don't think you understand about people who crave constant perfection. They crave it because they ARE secretly insecure, full of self-doubt and jealous of the people they deem better than them. If they weren't (secretly insecure), when they lose or fail they wouldn't act like Azula did, they would self-reflect and grow, like her friends and brother did. But Azula can't because of her deep insecurity. She just pretends not to be insecure but she's the most insecure one in the bunch. I always thought that was obvious. Especially when they were on the beach, and she was like 'I'm nothing like you all', she was so clearly putting up a front for her insecurities.
@@tracim3080 But she IS full of self-doubt and jealous of her brother. ????
The actors did train in a bootcamp. Gordon (Aang) was already athletic as he was a skateboard kid, Ian Ousley (Sokka) was a competitive martial artist too. But I think they all did great for the action part of their characters.
It's really sad that Azula's actress is getting bullied online so much
Really? What a shame
All of these actor are tbh. I think the only one people are leaving alone is Zuko's actor.
People are jerks. They forget, truly, that these are kids.
I don't understand the hate. Why they want a 14 year old to look and speak like a 30 year old woman. This og fans are crazy. The amount of fatshaming in this Fandom is insane.the cartoon Azula doesn't even look like an Asian teenage girl.
Especially since the only problem with the character is the writing
I think because they delayed Aang's waterbending development they couldn't have him use that kind of action on the Fire Nation fleet. He was just the raging Ocean spirit, and that was good enough, since he was merged with it, and losing himself for revenge for the death of the Moon spirit. Aang only recovered after Yue revived the Moon spirit, and helped them to learn what they wanted about life and death - and sacrifice. I'm fine with that, because now they don't have to spend as much time with backstory, and Book 2 will work toward Katara's waterbending training, before moving on to earthbending.
I also think Yue can still visit Sokka in the spirit world, as she was doing because of her previous link to the Moon spirit.
Also, in the animated series, Aang never uses waterbending against the fire nation....ever in season 1. Even in the finale, he only uses airbending and then merging with the spirit, so it's 100% canon, it's not like they 'removed' any waterbending he might have done in combat in the live action
Nice point of view. Can't wait for the next seasons 🎉🎉🎉
as an OG Fan, i'm satisfied with this... they told the story and allowed ample Fan Service... i say Bravo!!! ...keep. it. up!
No they didn't. They messed up several plot points. Shut your ass up
But they didn’t tell the story
None of these characters are the characters they’re supposed to be they don’t have the right motivations they don’t have the right personalities
Everything looks right, but the soul is definitely not there
@@tracim3080 i disagree... the changes that were made are acceptable to me... the core of the story is there... some of the personality choices come from the actors and since it isn't the same actors, the choices weren't gonna be the same... someone who has never seen the animated will be pleasantly surprised by how much better it is, but they will recognize the story ... flameo, Hotman!
@@ginahouston9352 really because they had zuko fight his dad with him not fighting, was very crucial to his character
The crew didn’t die Zukos sacrifice actually mean something again, very crucial changed his character development
Katara has no anger at the world around her.
She showcase that women were OK to express the rage at unjust things but now she has no rage now all she does is move along either Ang or her brothers story
She used to be someone that stood up for social justice causes now she’s a very timid little girl who’s constantly trying to find her voice
Because sokka wasn’t really a sexist asshole when he met the Kiyoshi warriors Suki is now just kind of a creepy girl who fell for the first new boy she met
She didn’t humble him he didn’t need to be humbled so their entire chemistry is really 90s romcom versus the strong woman teaching a man that she can be a warriors and a girl.
The message about how important it is to take care of the environment gone when they had that forest burned down in the spirit all upset we were supposed to learn a little lesson they took that out no reason
They don’t even have the three characters together most of the time almost every episode they’re getting split off.
And Aang didn’t Waterbend once.
Oh, and the kid that didn’t grow up in war and got stuck in the bubble is supposed to be the carefree kid that brings that back to the world now they have him be very serious. Also, he didn’t run away from his responsibilities, which is a very different character than the one we watched in the cartoon.
The beautiful mirroring of storylines and character arcs that the original had is gone because they’ve already changed the characters so much that we can’t get that
@@ginahouston9352 and when someone does watch the live action than the cartoon knowing they’re about 20 years apart what message do you think that says?
Because all the changes they made are going backwards.
The female characters are all tones down quieted down, made into more stereotypical, bad, female written characters, so that there are deer telling us that they want women to shut up now 20 years later, we decided women shouldn’t talk?
Having the characters we weren’t supposed to be violent in fighting back suddenly want to be violent and fight back is that their message that we shouldn’t try to be nonviolent that war is a good thing because that’s the message it is sending.
The live action took all the lessons the original head and flipped them around, like it wants the opposite to happen.
Love the hat, Oak! 🤣⬇️
I mean, the actress for June, Arden Cho, is going towards her 40's. She doesn't look it and would be a perfect Azula otherwise, but for her to play a teenager would'nt really work for me.
I still can't believe that the beloved teen wolf cast are nearing their 40s lol
As an Asian, I can tell Arden is much older. It might pass for hollywood standards but yeah she doesnt work being casted as a teenager especially when she’d be next to the rest of the cast and Zuko’s actor who’s supposed to be the older brother.
Can’t wait for Season 2! I want to see Toph and the others!
You're the reason why we have bad shows like this
This has been an awesome show!
@@purpleclaws202 keep on crying hater show got renewed for seasons 2 and 3 keep crying 😂
@hassansulaiman3848 if I was a hater I wouldn't give a damn lol. The original was perfect this is trash
@@purpleclaws202 ok then don’t watch clown simple
The actress that plays June is 38 years old, so while I know Asians look young for a long time, I don't think she'd be good to play a 14 year old..
You think they can get The Rock to play The Boulder?! That would be great!!!!
he wouldn't do it lol
Let’s save The Rock as Toph in the Ember Island Players stage production of the Avatar in Season 3. That would be amazing. 😂 🤣 wig, ultra sonic scream and all. 💀
he has a contract to where hes not allowed to lose any fights so i doubt hes want to
This comment is underrated. That would be too perfect. Or like what gc5295 said. Both are perfect fits for him in the show. It would make this show 90% better if they did that. Its too funny and would be a great cameo

27:32 haha this happens in the season 2 last episode, it was in Ba Sing Se.
I love your reaction and agree with almost everything you said
But cast June's Actress as AZULA? Guys Azula is a Child in this season, June is amost 25 years old
Lizzy Liu is perfect casting for Azula and you have to remember they are all growing up, changing constantly after all, this season was recorded almost 4 years ago and i don't think is fair say that she doesn't look like Azula in season 1 specially if you look at her now, even Dallas Liu too.
I’m entertained by you guys’ reaction to the rampaging ocean. Myself, I took it as fan service since in fandom circles, that creature has long been referred to as Koizilla. Making it even more Godzilla-ish rather than a blob was just icing on the cake 😁
Three LOST islanders are on the same team. Fire Lord Ozai, Commander Zhao, and The Great Sage have come to terms with the island Smoke Monster and decided to rule the world with their fire powers.
Bonus Point: If you spot the Polar Bear or the Black Rock, you are a true fan.
When i saw the scene with Zhao and the sage i was like "aww, father and son reunited again!"
It's a 3.5/5 stars for me overall. I hope they listen to the fans opinions on both the good and bad in S1 to make S2-S3 great. The new directors for S2-S3 are the directors that did the Bumi episodes in this Live Action.
Context: The Director of S1 has been taken in by Disney that's why they hired new directors.
you mean the new showrunners
@@gamingparadise3390 yep
now it ties better with the way they did King Boomi, and the Fall of Omashu is explained which was never shown why or how Omashu fell in the cartoon.
I just can’t believe he never even attempts waterbending the entire season.
Now I’m glad someone else said it
Yeah, In the interview of the cast, I think that was a decision they made to change up the series direction a bit, to give us something new, for both fans and newcomers. The same reasoning for the Book 2 characters and plot they added in this LA Book 1 adaptation.
but i think it makes somehow a bit sense because katara is now a known waterbender and good in it. So she can teach Aang on the further story. So katara has her moment an Aang can look up to her as a teacher. not like the Series were Aang performed pretty quick better then her.
@@faiibs7957 That really takes away from Aang being a prodigy though. It also removes his natural curiosity from his character and his willingness to constantly try new things.
Personally I think it was mostly done because they need to do a timeskip to explain characters aging. If he would already knew waterbending, there isn't much reason why couldn't go back to Bumi right away. Like this they can explain it as Aang spent time offscreen learning waterbending
Even all the way back during the animated series I've called what Aang turns into "Koizilla" for a reason.
The momo moment was such a shock. I know why they did it, but for .5 of a sec I was ready to quit 😅
Loved this show. Was behind on these eps so just binged a few yest and caught up. LET'S GOOOOOO!!!❤💞❤️
The way this ended, I'm hyped for season 2! I had to humble myself and remember this show has a BIG animated series shoe to fill. They did really well.
I enjoy the way they did this. I don't know for sure, but it's possible the actors/showrunners didn't know if they would be doing more seasons, so they wanted to tell as much as they could for what they could.
They'll definitely show Aang waterbend in season 2, I'm hopeful!
They changed the moral of the story
I don’t understand why you even bother adapting a story if you’re changing his moral lessons
Why are we adapting to mediocrity?
@@tracim3080 go cry about it
@@purpleclaws202 go cry
I really love how they did this season. Moving Katara bringing Aang back out from the Avatar state from episode 3 of the OG (would have been at the end of episode 1 of the live action) to this last episode narratively worked a lot better for me. Having it be Gyatzo (Aang's past) bringing him back to himself at the beginning of the season and making it Katara (his future) bringing him back at the end of the season really showed his growth and reinforced the theme of Aang needing to accept the past so that he could move forward into the future.
I really think this live action added sooo much depth and 'realism' to the story and was able to get into the more serious and gray aspects of generational trauma, cultural genocide (and full on genocide), a war that's lasted 100 years, and the things our 'protagonists' (like Iroh) have done being on the oppressor's side of the war. The way they incorporated specific cultural practices and methods of resistance (hiding the waterbending scroll being one) and showing the warring trauma and rage in Katara due to the generational pain she's dealing with elevated the story.
With the Azula casting - I think Oak unintentionally hit the nail on the head around 44:23. Azula IS 14 years old! She's not 30 like she was drawn in the animated version (or like Arden Cho is, 38!! You wanted a 38 year old to play a 14 year old???). I hate it that the actresses for Azula, Mai, and Tylee are getting so much hate rooted in fatphobia and racism due to their Asian features because it's 'not like the animated'. Zuko's actor, too. (Not saying that what y'all are doing is 'hate', but the comments others have made - directly TO the actresses - have been horrifically vile). As much as the OG is touted for being great Asian representation, many of the characters were drawn in the typical 'anime' fashion that doesn't show a lot of Asian features (other than their eyes) - sharper jawlines and more angular features aren't as common in Asia and there's a reason it's mixed Asian people with more 'western' sharp features that make it bigger in Hollywood than those with more 'traditionally' round Asian features. (See also the massive amount of colorism with which Black people get Hollywood famous - it's mostly light skinned people with more 'western' features though that has thankfully begun to change recently). It's great that so many young Asian people will be able to see people who actually look like them on screen, not just the Asian people with features the west deems 'screen-worthy'.
27:17 i think you're getting a little ahead of yourself there lol that scene is at the end of season 2 not season 1!
I think he means the cave Zuko hid in during the snowstorm where Katara just shows up and then immediately kicked his ass saves Aang and they debated leaving him behind.
@@tracim3080nah he mentions making inroads with zuko and that doesn’t happen during that fight. it happens in the cave at the end of season 2 when they talk and find out what they have in common.
@@_quintessence yes, but him and Aang talked in that snow cave… sorta. 😂 zuko talked
@@tracim3080yeah but he specifically “that moment in the cave with zuko and KATARA”. i think u need to rewatch the timestamp i provided again.
@@_quintessence yes, when Katara comes back, he might be confusing them together but he’s not wrong, there is a cave scene this season too.
I...just dont get why they changed some of the fundamental principles of the original show's story.
Especially the spirit world stuff; there were a number of reasons that the spirit world stories worked in the original. Also, why didn't they end Zhao the same way as they did in the original? With him being killed by a bender instead of absorbed by the ocean spirit, they took away a chance to show Zuko's capacity for mercy *and* the "nature eventually fights back against wanton destruction" theme.
it really isn't that big of a deal. besides, the winter solstice episodes in the OG were boring AF.
@@sinixynta You must have never watched the OG show lmfao.
Quinn said about if someone who not seen the animated series, if they still follow the story well enough, I've not seen anything of Avatar Airbender, but I was able to absorb everything & fully enjoy this live action series :) I probably never would of gave it a watch if not for your channel, you guys have a special energy & your reactions & discussion comments to stuff just gets people interested in stuff they wouldn't usually be, so thank you for getting me fully immersed in this story & characters! 😃❤
I’ve watched the animated Avatar 10+ times but the Netflix live-action was hard for me to watch 😂 The show felt like a theater performance with every character having a monologue
Ok your opinion
Love Oak's hat😂❤
It's interesting how caught-up you guys seem on the actors' appearances. For me the actors' performances and how well they play their roles can be the biggest make or break for adaptations. Even if you find someone who looks exactly like their source version, they could still play the character poorly. We really lucked out with Fire Lord Ozai and Sokka, but I have to disagree with you guys about the Zuko actor. For me the casting was perfect because he completely understood the character and played him to a 'T'. If an actor fully understands the character, I think we can forgive some inevitable physical differences.
Love the content guys ❤️✌️ Thank you for the great videos and laughs 😁
Thee ole tidal wave 😂
Loved the finale! cant wait for season 2
i would love to see you react to the velocipastor next, its a true masterpiece
Not Godzilla, that's based off of Princess Mononoke's Deer God/Forest Spirit that went berserk.
I wont lie, i legit thought Momo died. I was inconsolable 😅😅
Koizilla!!!!
One Piece fans are more accepting because they haven't been hurt by past projects. Whereas Avatar fans were split by Korra and Hurt badly by a rumored movie that was made. Once bitten twice shy.
Korra was a great show, however Nickelodeon kept screwing the creators over
@@daurydavis3983 not buying it. The problems people have with Korra are within a season each and writing choices. The stated studio demands would not have created those choices made. Therefore, blaming the studio is a poor excuse.
@@Dryltd u need to get a life
@@DryltdWhat he's saying though is that the studio refused to greenlight them for future seasons and so the show was always walking on eggshells about introducing things or going in depth on a show that could be cancelled any moment. There was also a lot of infighting with execs about where the storyline would go, especially Korra and Asami's relationship which was revolutionary for children's tv at the time and garnered a lot of pushback.
@@khemikims4058 None of the negative criticism would be affected by those issues. That's why I say it's a bad excuse. So they won't let you write Asami as girlfriend doesn't excuse sidelining Asami or Mako being the worst character. Or using what exactly for Korra to get her bending back. Aang dreams? Those are just bad choices period if you were only getting one season. That's why I don't buy the excuse.
I loved this series, it's not perfect by any means but it delivered what I needed and I can love it on its own and also love the cartoon. I'm glad they got season 2 and 3, hopefully they'll take in the constructive criticism and improve on stuff that were a little weird hahaha. I just wish all the hate the kids are getting would stop, people are just bullying them so hard, specially the actress that plays Azula. People seem to forget that Azula is 14 in the cartoon, they made her with sharp features and older voice so you could hate her easier hahaha, also the June actress looks a bit too old to be Azula. It's not a perfect series but it doesn't deserve all the hate that it's getting.
Anyways, great reaction as always, can't wait for season 2 and 3!!
I agree

I’ve been subscribed to you guys for a while now and you guys are by far my favorite reaction channel! I usually don’t comment because I am more of a silent watcher 😂, but I would love to suggest for you guys to react to Apocalypto if you haven’t already!
I'd say that Sokka, Suki and Ozai are cast perfectly.
Zuko, Aang, Azula and Cabbage guy I have no problems with.
Katara is hit and miss for me.
But man oh man do I not understand the casting of Bumi and Mai!
you guys should try watching Daisy Jones and the Six!!!! it's about a rock band in the 70's (loosely inspired by Fleetwood Mac's Rumours album) and the lead is Elvis's granddaughter.
The last medicine benders!
How can Zuko and Aang's clothes stay clean without the slightest dirt at the end of the battle?😅😅
I just need more facial expression variety. There’s a lot of strong points made in the dialogue but it gets diluted by no body language and very little true expression. Additionally, some of these lines need to be louder.
I do hope they work on the background lighting for cgi because it doesn’t look good, it’s missing perspective and depth that matches the characters’ depth (talking physically/visually here). Like you can see the weird layers between the background and the actors.
Overall though still enjoyed the show
Waiting for salaar 💥🔥🎉
Great job guys, I love watching all your reactions. You guys should do a reaction of the movie "Good Boys" (2019). I think you would all have a blast watching it, and I know I would enjoy watching your reactions to it.
In this episode, I'm glad they took out the Waterbending master noticing Katara's necklace that was from her grandmother because he was simp in the original and he decided to train her after he found out that the love of his life was Katara and Sokka's grandmother. I'm glad they change it for Katara to earn it due to her skills. Also, I disagree about Azula because I think the reason is she looks innocent but deep down she is evil looking like the "looks can deceive you" route in my opinion as you can see when we were first introduced to her in this series. Overall, the show was good. There were some good changes and bad changes. I give it a 8/10.
The line from Katara: "If you spot any incoming fireballs, don´t try to take them on yourself. Let me know" is so weird. So if they see a fireball flying in their direction, they should go search Katara so she can help? Do i need to explain how ridiculous this is? :D
Cause shouting isn't a thing when she is less than a couple meters away. C'mon
The way they wrote the female characters in general is freaking ridiculous
Apparently, all women need to do to defeat sexism is ask

There's another avatar last airbender being made with Dave Bautista. Aang:The last airbender
I think the final battle ended very strong for the first season. I actually think zuko was very well casted. Azula and her friends, I would say they weren't so well casted, but to be fair, we haven't seen too much of them yet. Zuko on the other hand we know he is going to be a better person so for him to not look evil but to show he has good in him is a great idea in my opinion. The last episode finished quite strong, though I wished some things remained.
- I think we should have at least seen some Aang do some water bending training, since, that's one of the reasons he goes to the North pole in the first in the original series. And of course, it would have been useful in battle and cool to see him use water
- I wish we saw Katara do at least some training and not just suddenly declared a master
- It might have been better if they stuck with if the stuck with the ocean spirit being in charge and then go back after seeing the Moon instead of Katara convincing Aang, who was somewhat in control, to go back. Because how are they going to make the argument Aang doesn't want to kill in the future of the series?
- This one I am on the fence, but what if Zhao was taken but the ocean spirit instead of Iroh doing it? It might have made a good future reference in case they need to reference the fog again in the future
Again, it was a great ending to the first season but those are just a few points I wished were in the episode, but still a very good season finale.
This was one of the better episodes of this series. The only thing missing was turtle seals.

I just recently watched yalls reaction to the Conjuring films. Have yall watched A24's "Talk to Me"? If not, I would love to see yalls reaction to it. It's a very different type of horror. And it was directed by two youtubers
My personal take on Azula and Katara in this series is that they both become who we know them as in the animated series by the the end of season one. I can forgive them not being as bad ass in this first season of their arcs by the end of this episode shine throughout the next two seasons.
On Azula’s appearance, everyone is entitled to their opinion, I’m not trying to tell people how they should feel about it. But I do want to share some context. If you look at Azula in her cameos of the animated series book one, you’ll see that she does have softer features. But the voice actress Grey DeLisle gave such a performance, that the animators tweaked her appearance on the show. I’ve heard they did the same with several other characters as well.
I think they are forgetting she is Zuko's little sister. She's only 14. If you see 14 year old kids irl, they have legit babyfaces. They just drew Azula in the cartoon to look much older than she actually is, and her voice actress doesn't help in that regard. She gives off the vibe of someone much more mature than she is meant to be. I think the live action Azula is doing fantastic so far, and I hope with the right direction she can give us a truly excellent performance in season 2, as that's Azula's season to truly shine.

The answer might want to look for the answers in their "holy" text and by that I mean read it from cover to cover so that they can see how many times it contradicts itself and supports extremely immoral things...
Also if y'all don't want comments like this then band Cult memorabilia from being worn while filming.
Over 18,000 deities have been worshiped by humans and not one of them meets them bare minimum requirement of not contradicting itself and not supporting anything obviously extremely immoral...
What's more likely that your text that contradicts itself and supports extremely immoral things is somehow the one correct and 100% holy text or that like all the other texts that contradict themselves and/or support extremely immoral things well that's proof that they're not a legitimate holy text and humans are just prone to making s*** up to make themselves feel better...
To be fair, I haven't seen the animated series and I've honestly, truly enjoyed this live action series 😊
That being said, I feel like this last episode had a lot of repetitive "telling" and over explaining of something that was fairly easy to grasp visually. Also, I agree that things could have gone a little bigger.
I know the live action movie has a lot of faults but I felt stronger emotions watching the final scene in the movie than in this episode and the wave that Aang waterbends up, is the scale I was hoping to see with the tidal wave... it may be an unpopular opinion but with this episode vs. the movie scenes covering the same timeline, I feel like the movie did better in showing - not telling, and emotional draw, and epicness.
The original story was about nonviolence anti-sexism and kids growing up to fast and how that effects society.
Did you get those messages from this version?
you guys should watch the new millie bobby brown movie Damsel it's an awesome action/thriller/fantasy!!
So the actor that plays mother's milk wanted to do it differently where he bit it and then have it squirt blood all over the place...
They did it once and it sucked it up so they just went with the take they already had.
I wish they would have done more with iron this episode that my only complaint
You guys gotta watch the new show "fallout" that just released a few days ago and then play fallout new vegas on your gaming channel. :)
I personally really like the show
I think it's not perfect, but I also think the original show gets too much praise (it's really good, but it also has its flaws which a lot of people seemingly forget or are blind to due to their love of the property, same reason they seemingly hate more on Korra)
They made changes but to me, in the context of the show presented, these changes made sense. I never felt like a scene was out of place, like it didn't fit the story narratively, or that it would pull me out. Bumi I honestly liked quite a bit, even though I can understand the complaint about the makeup, it personally didn't bother me. I liked the bitterness within him, and being another step towards Aang's realization that while yes, he was gone for 100 years, he has to now take up the responsibility of being the Avatar.
Standout performances to me where Uncle Iroh (genuinely made me tear up a few times), Zhao (I love the actor but man was he easy to hate xD), Ozai (I mean, was there ever any doubt?)
From the kids I think all did well, though I hope Aang's actor gets a bit more comfortable acting, as I found him to be the weakest link. It felt mostly like he was "acting" instead of being the character, with overexpressed expressions if that makes sense.
I think in terms of casting though, they knocked it out of the park for me. Especially Sokka, dude genuinely looks like he walked off the animated screen and became real.
I would rate the show overall a 7.5/10. Not perfect, but really well made and a good start towards season 2/3, which hopefully are even better.
Stop conforming to mediocrity
Please start watchin Xmen '97 now that avatar is awaiting season 2- im sure you'll love it!
There were issues with this adaptation but I still cannot agree on an exact remake. It's interesting that Oak says, 'ay, I prefer a shot for shot remake' and moments later he's like 'I really like the scene where Katara brings in the women water benders to convince Pakku to let them fight'. That was not in the original series if I remember correctly. In FACT, in the original series, Pakku changed his mind ONLY because he realised Katara was GranGran's granddaughter, who he once loved, which honestly... is unrealistic. Suure let's change centuries of tradition on a whim because I'm nostalgic and want to impress this girl to hook up with her grandmother again. I like the live action change better. Much more powerful but yeah let's keep remaking things shot for shot and not adding depth to stories.
I have not seen the original. I binged this series and I give it a solid 3.5. Little too childish at times with the dialog and humor but a solid production. I'm still confused about the avatar state. Is it a state where previous avatars or spirits can control him? I'm also confused if he is conscious when his is in the avatar state? Other than that, story was fairly simple. I would have rather Zuko was the main character. He was very good.
pleaseeeee watch the og
have you seen the one piece La adaptation? Is so how would you compare it to this one since both are adaptations from a beloved animation series
Seriously just watch the cartoon. The writing is so much better and sadly more adult.
Sadly zuko actor is 22 portraying a 16 old character. While aang is 12. Maybe your wish will be granted if they make an adult live adaptation of this one.
WATCH THE ORIGINAL SHOW PLEASE.
Love you guys but the June actress is in like her late 30s and azula is supposed to be a kid 😅
Ok... so azula is zuku's younger sister... so i dont understand why they want the actress to portray her to be more than 30 yrs old... and they say that they are og fans...
FINALLY ❤
Don't mind me just sitting here waiting for the Fallout reactions xP
You guys should react to Hancock
On a scale from 1-5 I gave this show a strong 4.2. Def has room to improve and comeback even better, but not a complete disappointment either.
Is five the worst you can get?
i think a rewatch may be in order before season 2 comes out since i think y’all are misremembering a lot of things and interpreting things incorrectly too.
also let’s be serious now: i get y’all are older and casting back in the day just chose any old 30-40 year old to play teenagers, but these days we like to do things accurately. why would a near 40 year old arden cho be better than lizzy yu who was actually 18-19 when this was filmed to play a LITERAL 14 YEAR OLD?? i love arden but she absolutely cannot pass as anything younger than 20 😭
Did they shine? They surely did, but some deadweight mistakes pulled the show down a little bit. Sometimes the exposition, sometimes the dialogue, sometimes the way a character was portrayed, and sometimes the acting (they were kids, it was director's job to push them for better performance). If they get rid of the dead weight and balance in what to keep and what to leave they can surely make this the perfect adaptation.
The first season, as a whole, was ok. For me, it wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible as well. The exhibition writing drove me insane. And the fact that Aang did not learn any water bending this season blows my mind. I'm worried that when season 2 starts, Aang will already be water bending and we will have missed his journey into water bending. I also didn't like Bumi. I knew he was going to be a hard character to bring to life, but felt like they tried to mix a cartoon Bumi and live action and that mix just didn't work for me. I also had issue with some of the CGI. Some of the flight scenes were very obvious it was CGI and there were a few times that Katara would use water bending to smack someone and that person remained dry. There was no water on the person, at all. But yes, Appa, Momo and the big Koi looked really good. Even though I have been pretty critical about this season, it wasn't bad enough where I won't watch the 2nd season, cause I will. I just hope that the writing gets a lot better, and we are not deprived of Aang's journey into water bending.
37:26 There's a rumor that the creative differences that they had were that the original creators actually wanted to make more changes to the story and Netflix wanted to stay closer to animated show. However, I don't think this is confirmed and I've also heard that part of what lead to them leaving was the whole thing with Nickelodeon creating Avatar Studios with them as the head so I don't know, these are just things I've heard.
Quin mixing up the end of season 1 and 2 lmao
I know he remembered the size of the tidal wave, but not that the Katara/Zuko cave sequence is end of Season 2 😂 that's okay, they watch so much content that keeping everything straight would be tough
Day 4 asking Bad Medicine to watch Cyberpunk Edgerunners (in english sub) next!
Nah bro it’s gotta be dub, makes no sense to watch edgerunners in sub, especially when night city is in America, they should watch the dub
@@Goonman7720 ataxk on titan is inspied by germany and pretty much all the characters are german by your logic we should watch it in german dub.
1+ year in asking them to watch tatiana maslany's orphan black.
@@gamingparadise3390 I guess but who said anything about attack on titan, it just doesn’t make sense to watch it in sub, takes place in America, the mom speaks Spanish to David, and the only people that speak Japanese is literally arasaka
Just because it's anime doesn't automatically mean it should be watched in sub, look at Dragonball Z the English dub was superior
Biggest issues are pacing and poorly written dialogue. Much of the more than generous screen time is occupied by overly long conversation that meanders and does little to further the characters in meaningful ways. The show looks great, I think for the most part the casting is at least fine, and sound design hovers acceptable.
I'm open to the prospect that they clean up their act in Season 2, but I'm not too hopeful. They've already planted the seeds of mischaracterization among the main cast,
as more plot occurs that rely on that character development the more discrepancies and replacement writing will have to be written as it butterfly effects the rest of the show.
The crazy thing about this show's pacing is that - if you do the math - they actually have *more* total screen time than the actual first book of the original. And yet they skip an
or criminally compress an enormous amount of material.
Do fallout series plzz

So obviously my last few comments were meant for the reaction on another show feel free to delete them after reading them. You know what show it is.
unlucky that they did the same mistakes twice and cant let a perfect series just be perfect. They wanted to milk the cashcow and made a mediocre series instead of a new one in the same universe.
This Anng is so much more pesimistic than the animated Aang.
Totally agree about Azula! I do like the Zuko casting though, I had the same first impression seeing him about facial features being different but I think the actor embodies him so well it was easy to look past. But for Azula she still doesn't feel intimidating or scary enough.
It wasn't the worst series I've seen, but it's inferior to the cartoon in every aspect.
The acting is very bad. The trio has ZERO chemistry.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just give me one look, one scene, 5 seconds of Yagoda looking pensively into the horizon. One sign that she is thinking about this.
Just to sell it to the audience that Katara reached them. They go from "No, it's tradition" to "Get over yourself you old fool" with no scene in between. 5 seconds...3 even if you hang it on after Katara leaves. I feel they needed that to make it count.
definitely not as good as one piece's live action, but still a great watch
you guys would love one punch man, i think; it's another anime like attack on Titan, but much shorter and (usually) more lighthearted! the English dub is good as well
they will probably watch more anime once they finish with atack on ttan which will take a while, rn their at season 2 on their patreon but they are also watching all the ovas so it will take them around 40 weeks to finish atack on titan which should be around 10 months
Apologies, but I’m very hung up on the Azula takes this show has provoked. I’m rewatching the scene where Azula defies Ozai’s order in episode 7, and Ozai tells Azula to obey, and it’s her “last chance”. And when she defies him, he retaliates by shooting fire at Azula. Azula strikes back with lightning. Not to kill, but to show that she’s willing to strike back. Except she didn’t. Nonetheless Ozai is impressed how she proved herself and wants to prove herself in the ways Zuko has and hasn’t.
It’s almost as if Zuko set an example for both of them…
And then Ozai and Azula failed the assignment
I didn’t hate this series but I didn’t love it either. Personally I think it really should’ve been a 10-12 episode season with more story and character development. Loved Daniel Dae Kim and Ken Leung. Definitely need the make-up, costume, and hair department to get a bigger budget next season because that chunky fire nation neck armor wasn’t doing anyone any favors (Daniel Dae Kim barely pulled it off) and the wigs were atrocious. Not to mention how poorly the looks for Katara, Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee made the actresses nothing like how their real life appearances are (a serious disservice when considering how the show portrayed these young ladies). Can’t say I’m looking forward to more seasons honestly. I was disappointed it got renewed. I hope next season does a better job at honoring the source material while also continuing to explore story and situations that had to be left out of the animation due to the original medium. But that being said, I will not be eagerly anticipating its return.

I dropped it after ep 4 so I cant speak on the whole season. I saw the potential and care that went into this series and visually it looked amazing in every regard, cgi, coreography (for the most part), the casting was great (for the most part) and the costume design was amazing! Some additions like Iroh talking with Ozai were GREAT!
Though... sadly the dialogue was abhorrent, they added a bunch of unnecessary stuff that didnt add much or anything at all, but which took away the screentime from canon moments that could've used them. Pretty much all changes lost something from the original and just made things worse. Aang and Katara did not feel like Aang and Zuko was a bit more whiny than angry aka he felt more like early season 3 zuko. Season 1 Zuko didnt really pitty himself or question what he was doing yet. He was just pure anger. In the end it became clear to me that the creators didnt really know the original or cared for it, which is probably why the original creators left the production.
1.5/5
zuko definitely questions himself, but i suppose you might only come to that conclusion if you actually watch the series lol
@@cm4n63 ok give me one scene in s1 where he questions his actions. And I dont mean picking the lifes of his crew or uncle over chasing the avatar thats not questioning his actions.
The things they decided to change really cheapens the story for me.

No matter how many times i hear it, i just can't warm up to Aang's vocal fry. It's like nails on a chalkboard to my ears.
I only watched your reaction to the first episode and gonna watch the last one just for the commentary at the end, bc this show was a huge disappointment, NOT because they didn’t do it shot by shot similar, but bc they missed the point of almost all the characters and the decisions they make, also DIALOGUE VOMIT. People are lying to themselves when they say it was a really good job lol
Momo is a spirit. Remember the episode where the first avatar is shown and how he got his powers? Remember the spirit guarding the spring keeping the "human" out while spirits came in to hang out. That is momo. He makes a comment about avatar juan being his pet. Maybe thats how momo sees aang because he knows hes the avatar aka his old friend/pet. At the end of the episode with avatar juan, momo crosses the portal from the spirit world to the human world. :)
the dialouge in this is so stale from most actors... just sad
