I love TapFly on the Mavic Air. In Forward, you don't need to manage speed, altitude, or direction. All remain constant unless, of course, if you deliberately adjust either of them. When you do want to make a change in either speed, altitude, or direction, you can with the joy sticks. Then let go when the new parameters are set and the drone flies on it's own while you manage the camera. In Reverse, you get the same functionality. In Free, you cannot change direction with the yaw stick. That makes sense as you want the yaw stick to control the camera direction. Like the previous modes (Forward/Reverse) you can change speed or altitude. What I like most about the Coordinate mode is, when flying in restricted space, you don't need to worry about flying too far. Your end point is set. This acts like a dynamic waypoint mode. You fly to the first point, reset flight or camera parameters, then set your new waypoint and proceed. I am looking forward to having this level of control on my P4P.
If you choose the Free mode, you can´t change the direction with the yaw stick. But is it possible to change direction with tapping on the screen? Does the OBS sensors working in this mode?
Currently no waypoints on the Mavic Air, but if you use Litchi app you can get this feature. Not 100% if they're worth it or not, but i will be checking out Litchi in the very near future :)
Thanks again for this great tutorial! Is there a certain way to set these shots in 4K? I see in your upper window that you were able to. My MA still defaults to 1080. Thanks again. 👍
How do you make sure your drone doesn't fly out of range with Free Tapfly? And how do you take control of the drone in the middle of this mode if you feel like moving in a different direction manually?
Hi @dronesupremacy I accidentally press anything the flight mode quick shot icon in the right is gone. How to appear it back in the screen the control icon
I haven't tried any of the automated flight modes yet. I'm still flying strictly manual, but I think I'm comfortable enough now to start trying some of them. I need to follow a semi truck down a road and the camera shot being smooth is much more important than the flight path. A simple straight line for the drone while turning the camera will be awesome. How well does the drone still track if you end up rotating 180 degrees around? I assume it's making a GPS point to go to, not really a virtual place on the screen?
I'm not sure what's the technology behind it, but the drone definitely follows the same path even when rotating 180 degrees. You can see a straight red line on the map when I'm using the Free mode, and i'm sure the drone has some GPS coordinates to help it follow that path. But it's very stable and generally super easy to use.
Great video! A question! Can you limit the max speed on a mavic air? I wanna lock the max speed to like 7km/h and fly close and through trees, but its hard to run after and at the same time keep the drone exactly in the same speed..
Whenever I press “go” on tapfly on all 4 features, it goes for a second then stops.. I have tried setting Go to many directions but it just stops after a second of it moving towards it.. PLEASE someone help!!!
I am just now getting into it. I have not used Free yet but that one looks to be my new favorite as it is yours. Enjoying the videos Mike, keep it up man! I plan to keep watching and look forward to your next videos.
Good video & tips, thanks! I wonder though, how to make yaw sensitivity smooth in a free mode? Despite I'm having yaw sens very low, it acts crazy when in free mode.
I also like TapFly a lot. Espacially the free mode is great. However, I have a problem with it. I have changed my EXP settings to 0.1 yaw to get very smooth turns. However, in tap-fly it seems the EXP settings are not used. The yaw-speed is very sensitive and I do not get a smooth turn. Any ideas how to smoothen the yaw-speed? Can you confirm that EXP-settings are not used in tap-fly?
I'm note quite sure, i might have been safe when using the "forward" TapFly mode, but i'm not 100% confident as i don't know how much the drone relies on the GPS signal while using TapFly. Might have to ask DJI engineers to be sure ;)
Man, its so useful that you point out what buttons you press. A lot of tutorials just say "lets enter ___ mode" but they dont show how to do it. Thanks bro. Really helpful and makes me wana go out and practice.
As always, Thanks for the awesome tutorial! I have a couple questions; Does all the TapFly, Active Track and QuickShot modes automatically start recording? Thanks again.... I've learned an incredible amount from you! 😊👍
Will the drone return to the starting point? I had my Maiden flight last weekend and got a little scared when I lost sight of the drone. Luckily I heard it🤣
Hi Mike, another great interesting video, I will have to try some of these different modes to help get some impressive footage, at the moment still just using the sticks! I’ve had issues with batteries, a few months back received a “ broken cell warning” please land ASAP! And contact DJI, which I did and they replaced the battery, 10 days ago got exactly the same warning with one of my other batteries! This time DJI won’t replace! Under 11 months old, only 8 charges and max 10 minutes total flying time, I’m hoping to talk to higher management in a couple of days time to sort the issue!!! I have just bought a MacBook Pro 2017, and I used to use Pinnacle 19 Ultimate on my Home pc for editing! But Pinnacle is not compatible with the MacBook, and it looks like you’re using maybe a Mac for your editing and I was wondering this guy has some decent footage going on ! So what editing software do you recommend please Mike? Keep up the good work! Subscribed months ago! 👍 Dave in the UK.
Hey Dave! Sorry to hear about your battery issues, hope you get them sorted ASAP! As for your editing question - yes, I use a Mac as well and i use Final Cut Pro X for all of my editing. I find the software really easy to use both by beginners and more advanced users, and it also works best with Macs for rendering/exporting times (it's much quicker than any other software). However, if you're looking for a free solution you can check out Davinci Resolve, it's a good alternative. Good luck, and thanks for the support! 🙌🏻
Absolutely not! The footage you see on your smartphone in the DJI go 4 app is downscaled and with worse quality than the actual footage on the SD-card. The recordings go to the SD card anyway so as long as your computer can handle 4k footage, you're good to go!
You're not bullshitting, you're giving the info you say in the title, you're crisp and sharp in your exprimation, not loosing my time. Like and subscribe from me, 100% deserved in this mediocre world of rating and clickbaiting...
Great video- thanks man; just what I needed. I usually manually fly the Mavic Air, but today & wanted a specific shot, & Tapfly was exactly what I needed. I had never really used Tapfly, so your video was super helpful & helped me get the shot! Thanks!
MY ONLY INTEREST is to preplan flight lines north 1500', east 30', south 1500', east 30', north 1500', east 30', south 1500' and so on ... On my Parrot Bebop, I could set this pattern up without even turning on the drone... PRE PLANNED FLIGHT ... On my Holy Stone 550, it appears my drone must be hovering(not sure what height), while I figure out how to set up 2 miles of flight lines ... all the while wasting critical flight time ... 25 minutes become 10 minutes after wasting 15 minutes setting everything up ... no worthwhile alternative
That's amazing, thanks for sharing this video. I am still getting into using my Air and learning all of the capabilities, and thus haven't tried this one yet. I look forward to testing a few different shots and seeing what creative outcomes I can create. In my last video (ua-cam.com/video/xFNv-A02Sjg/v-deo.html), I relied solely on manual flying, however I think I can definitely incorporate some of the tap fly controls to get more precise focus on certain subjects.
Who here loves TapFly?
Haven't even used it yet, thanks for the info...
I'm just starting to experiment with it. Possibilities look promising!
Thanks,a bit nervous to use this
I do! And I am a droner noob!
Thanks, I'm now anxious to try it out because of your video.
I love TapFly on the Mavic Air. In Forward, you don't need to manage speed, altitude, or direction. All remain constant unless, of course, if you deliberately adjust either of them. Very well explained Russell! Thanks ;)

I’ll have to try it. What about waypoint? I hear the Mavic Pro has that mode...are we missing something good?
Currently no waypoints on the Mavic Air, but if you use Litchi app you can get this feature. Not 100% if they're worth it or not, but i will be checking out Litchi in the very near future :)
What software did you use for the edit ? Thanks

hi , does the mavic pro have these 4 options including reverse and free
How do you make sure your drone doesn't fly out of range with Free Tapfly?

Awesome... thanks for the response. I hope to try it soon. :)
Hi Mike what is the name of the back ground music you have in this clip
Shazam
@@metalheadz07
Thanks mike
Thanks for the video! Where in the setting would I turn on that red gimbal line?
how do you interrupt the mode? by hitting the pause button on the controller?
Great audio man. What track is that at the beginning? It sounds amazing with some headphones on!
** Great vid, thank you.
Quick question, what happens if the drone looses connectivity with the controller?
Can I do this with my spark? What about the Mavic 2 pro my dream machine???
Great video! A question! Can you limit the max speed on a mavic air? I wanna lock the max speed to like 7km/h and fly close and through trees, but its hard to run after and at the same time keep the drone exactly in the same speed..
Is this Tap Fly the same for Dji Spark?
Can you set exposure and all image setting manualy while using these intelligent modes ?
Yes, you can!
Hi, thanks for the video. What happens if you loose signal?
How do you smooth out the yaw settings in Tap Fly? After I set them to smooth in EXP, they don't hold in Tap Fly.
Have you found a solution?
Do you still fly your original Air?
wth is the point of coordinate? Is it like Free except that it will stop at that point?
Thanks for the video. Wished you would have spent more time explaining the functions and more footage. Still waiting for my air to arrive.
Hi Does Mavic Air records way points info to plan overlap flight plans for 3D topographic mapping?
try air data, you can have all the informations of your flights.
When in coordinate, do you have free control of the camera like in "Free" mode?
No, you only have control over the gimbal, and not the yaw.
I used tapfly backwards it ascended as it went backwards and it hit a branch
Whenever I press “go” on tapfly on all 4 features, it goes for a second then stops.. I have tried setting Go to many directions but it just stops after a second of it moving towards it.. PLEASE someone help!!!
I don´t find TapFly in Mavic Air 2 !! I´m I missing something? Is it under other name or something?
How do we do Tap Fly (Course Lock) in Mavic Air 2 with the DJI Fly App?
I am just now getting into it. I have not used Free yet but that one looks to be my new favorite as it is yours. Enjoying the videos Mike, keep it up man! I plan to keep watching and look forward to your next videos.
Thanks so much for the support Michael, glad you like the videos! :)
Good video & tips, thanks! I wonder though, how to make yaw sensitivity smooth in a free mode? Despite I'm having yaw sens very low, it acts crazy when in free mode.
Have you found a way to do this? I have the same problem!
Very helpful! Thank you!
What macbook pro are you using for editing?
Hey Charles. I'm using the Macbook Pro 13inch with no touchbar from 2016.
I had the same issues, so i guess exp-settings are not used indeed!
Same issue here, i thought it will have a smooth yaw and in top to fly. I guesss flying in manual still thed best
Same issue. People have posted about it on the official Mavic forums too and been ignored.
The Music by: Epidemic Sound what is the name of it ??
If you had used tap fly when you were flying under that rock arch by the sea would the drone have still drifted and crashed?
I'm note quite sure, i might have been safe when using the "forward" TapFly mode, but i'm not 100% confident as i don't know how much the drone relies on the GPS signal while using TapFly. Might have to ask DJI engineers to be sure ;)

Do it man! Practice is always good. And thanks for the nice comment! :)
If I were to walk through a field of canola here in Australia, I'd be bitten by 11 different species of snake.. lol
Your voice sounds familiar. Did you ever do GIMP tutorials??
Cheers
Haha no, this channel is the only place where I share my voice :)
Excellent tutorial!
Great intro whats the number of that song from Epidemic Sound
Thanks Cor! The song is Balearic Lounge Safari 3 by Niklas Gustavsson :)
Music??
As always, Thanks for the awesome tutorial! I have a couple questions;
Does all the TapFly, Active Track and QuickShot modes automatically start recording?
Thanks again.... I've learned an incredible amount from you! 😊👍

Great vid! It really blew my mind as I didn't give importance to this flight mode.
Nice tutorial Mike. Thanks for sharing.
Nice! Never tried this before. Definitely gonna have to test it out
Definitely dude! let me know how you find it afterwards ;)
Thank you... I will use those options tomorrow
Nice tips !!
Your videos are great my friend, I wish you many more subscribers!
Far too kind, thank you very much
Excellent job-thank you!
One of the biggest fail on mavic 2 is absent of course lock. This is for sure similiar mod. Thanks for video!
I was told that I need a 4k smartphone if i want to record 4k video from mavic air. Is this true?
Absolutely not! The footage you see on your smartphone in the DJI go 4 app is downscaled and with worse quality than the actual footage on the SD-card. The recordings go to the SD card anyway so as long as your computer can handle 4k footage, you're good to go!
Drone Supremacy Thanks.
Very informative. Will definitely try this in near future. Fun to watch your videos. Thanks
Thanks John! Yes, do try it when you have the chance, you might be pleasantly surprised :)
Simply the best and clearest explanation of tap fly, with excellent examples, thanks!
Thanks Mike will check them out! 👍
Thanks for the review, i was seeking somete Ing like that :)
Thanks, explained very well.
It's such a great feature. I use it a lot my self

Very nice footage and well edited. Thanks for sharing
My pleasure!
Good info. Thanks for making the video!
You always give me good advises, Thanks!!
Anytime, you're welcome! :)
Great tutorial! Great cinematography! Thanks for the vid!
Thanks Kevin, much appreciated 🙌🏻
Great video- thanks man; just what I needed. I usually manually fly the Mavic Air, but today & wanted a specific shot, & Tapfly was exactly what I needed. I had never really used Tapfly, so your video was super helpful & helped me get the shot! Thanks!
Fantastic information as always. Thanks for the explanation.
great! thanks
Nice and simple Mike 👍👍😎😎
Very good tuturial.👍
Thanks Filipe! :)
That intro sequence was amazing!
Thanks a lot, i got really inspired by this place :)
Nice and simple Mike 👍👍😎😎 Cheers, Ian.
I will definitely try this after seeing this video. Thanks!

I miss an auto gimbal up/down feature.
Yep... Inspiring conversation..... and I'm learning from you... thanks...
Great video! I must try it!! 😁
Yup! Let me know how it was afterwards ;)
Lovely video! Keep up the good work.
Thanks
Awesome video!
Rewatched video. Levels on audio (voice/music) are perfect bro. Find the music adds to the production quality 👌
This is such a cool drone!!
GREAT CHANNEL!!!
Thanks buddy :)
Great job. Thanks for sharing. Your efforts and time are appreciated.
Bro that opening was mint 👌
Really useful vid. I've never really used Tap Fly much so never realised its potential. Thanks 😄👍
Cheers Mate!
This guy does great work
Great topic and I love the Free Tap Fly mode.
I wish it was more like my Bebop 2 Flight Plan which is really awesome
cool video. Will give tapfly a go...
very nice indeed, more og this topic please 👍
niice, thank you, will try tomorrow :)
I will try this ,Thumbs up bro
Good luck, let me know how you find it afterwards :)
Great video
good job bro!!!!!!!!!!!!
Frustated because I just can´t find TapFly in my new Mavic Air 2 !!
