- The winter season is here. My hot tent in the woods is standing up like a beast. In this video I am getting myself prepped for winter. I am eating delicious food and I am staying cozy with my wood stove.

Love the hiss!! ❤️ My parents bought a new Shasta trailer in 1955 that had propane gas lights. It was a ritual for my father to clean the globes, replace the mantles, turn on the gas and light. Warmth bathed the inside of the trailer washing the maple veneered walls with a golden glow. It was pure magic and one of my fondest memories about camping!
I remember those Shasta trailers!!! Nice trailers at that time!!!

Hey MrsMoon. You are right. The hiss is something special. Thanks for sharing your childhood memories in the comments. And thanks for supporting the channel. Jay
Love your description Mrs Moon 😊 so cosy and atmospheric 😊

Memories like that are the best. The eternal best
I really enjoy your videos. My husband passed at the age of 38 very recently & he loved your videos so much. He used to watch em every night before bed. He found them relaxing & really interesting & sometimes he'd show me the impressive things you'd be up to.🥰 Now, I find them relaxing for those reasons & because it reminds me of him & those memories. I know this might be too deep for a UA-cam comment. But, I had to share. Thanks for the memories & entertainment! ☮️💜
I watch with my husband, too, and I cannot imagine your loss. I’m so sorry.
@@theglamgram Thank you, thats really kind of you. It has definitely been the hardest time of my life & don't wish it on anyone. Its the little comforts & ways of remembering him that helps a lot.
So sorry for your loss 😢
@@lizvickers7156 Thank you, I appreciate it. ✌🏻
Sorry 😞 for your loss…
I live in Arizona, and right now, November 19th it is 15° Celsius!!! LOL!!! I can't possibly imagine the conditions you are in!!! LOL!!! That is why I love watching your videos!!! A reality check of what can be done.
This tent is still going strong years later, amazing!
Another great video Jay, thanks! I've watched most, if not all, of the videos two or three times over and enjoy them each time as much as the last. The cold winter vids are my favorite to watch so I, like many others, am excited to see you back at the tent for winter. I'm not sure how you make them feel so simple and authentic, yet so professional at the same time? Whatever it is and how you do it, please keep at it.
Thanks for this thoughtful comment, Keith. I hope you have a great week. Jay
Love the camping videos you do absolutely beautiful country. Waiting for the next one 👍👍. Jeff Wilson from North Carolina.
Hurray for Winter...and camping!!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year!🌲🎵😊
Finally, THE tent! 🌠
Love this and glad i found your channel. I live in the southeast USA now and I miss snow so much. Living vicariously through your videos! haha
I like the canvas tent but much prefer a more solid structure like a cabin. Love the channel.
Russet for life! Blanche the russets after rinsing thrice, put in the fridge or in your case outside to stabilize and dehydrate, water gets a bad crunch when frying. The next day, fry them up and have the best fries evah.
Loads of gratitude to be able to experience the view you see. Tx for shooting the video of what you do.. Blessings brother.
Thanks Jassijo. I love making these vids and I love getting comments like this. Take care. Jay
Thanks Jay, I love your videos and never miss a one…….
Thanks Richard
Really enjoy jays content, and the fact that the production quality gets better with each video is awsome, keep it up dude!
Awesome comment. There's a lot going on when making these videos, I am happy you see quality in them. Take care, rutigerescobar. Jay
The stove reminds me of stoves used in many Newfoundland outports in the first half of the twentieth century. Not the same shape and bigger, but the same principle. I am 86 and the teacher’s daughter, and as we moved around I saw a lot of those stoves. The one we had was a little different in that the oven and the firebox were all in one. I used to wish that we had one like that. Love your videos.
Hello, I'm from INDONESIA..the cabin is very comfortable..I like the stove complete with oven..
Definite preference for electric lights. Any option that eliminates a fire risk is worth it to me.
HEY! Good morning Jay and thumbs UP!! I hope that all is good for everybody !
Awesome to see you at the tent Jay. Looking forward to your season
I can tell you, I am 100% for this season. Congrats on the new stove. I envy you, getting away from it all. Keep up the good work.
Great to share in your winter adventures again Jay but the thought of -50 c is nothing short of terrifying. Looked like mouse damage but with no droppings it wasn't a mouse. Had to laugh when you ssid it was warm there at only -5 c, in the UK we would come to a stand still. Jay have no fears your fantastic channel and videos lift us all to. Thank you Jay and take care my friend.
Gone back to old school oil lanterns . Quiet and love the light.
Looks like you're off to a great start to the season.
Looking forward to it boss.👍👍👍
Great to see you back in the tent.
it's good to come back and watch you again bro live in the cool life.
Great to see you back at the tent!! And with a different sled!! 👍 Hopefully you won’t have to plug it in to get it to start when the colder weather starts!! Cheers
Perfect way to start my morning. New tent video. Thanks jay!!
The biscuits and molasses brings me back to when I was younger. My Dad's family from Grand Mira, Cape Breton, N.S. loved that as well in the morning or an evening snack. Enjoyed your video!
Ah, Grand Mira and Anne Murray! Cape Breton is the greenest place I ever saw. Except for Cornwall in England. But very rainy too! 😁
Hi I am so glad I found your Channel I am 56 years old and I'm living off grid I'm currently reading a storage building but I want to do what you're doing you are doing my family owns some property here in Rogersville Tennessee
Happy Thanksgiving to fellow Americans. Happy belated Thanksgiving to our neighbors to the North.
I prefer candle lanterns... large thick candles set down into a glass sided lantern. I have a 3-candle lantern with a door. Works great... just open the door, light the candles and close the door. The candles last a very long time and you can buy candles in many stores.
THING OF BEAUTY!!!
I’m so excited for you, this season, your channel, all of it! 😊
So looking forward to this seasons videos. The location your at for this video, are among my favorites. Having said that, a blizzard while at the cabin would be awesome to see. Ice fishing too. Thank for all the great content.
White gas all the way, I love the way they sound. I also love the fact that they take a bit of tinkering with, especially as they age!
I like both electric and gas. Also oil. Great vid. Stay safe and have fun.
Just came across ur channel lying n bed bout 4 am..lol.. but seriously, awesome tent and way u got it boarded up alround, like that style. Wood heaters are great, I was raised on em, and remember all times out in the woods cutting lighter stumps for kindling. Can't beat that pine lighter smell. Yours first channel in this kinda of adventure I'd put it lol.. I've subscribed to. I enjoy it and love snowy weather, don't get much in South Carolina. Thanks for sharin..
That's my kind of tent. You did good building it❤ I think it's awesome. Great video see you in the next one❤😊❤
Awesome. Thank you for this comment Donna. Jay
the old Coleman lanterns had a third valve on them...basically a jet cleaner so you wouldn't get so much flame billowing out...ah well, they still work like a charm in a pinch too! Cheers
So pleased you are back at the tent, and you look so happy! Can’t wait for this season. So excited. Ps. Loved the new stove.👍👍👍
Right on Trudy. The new stove is great and I am really happy that I can take the homemade stove to my cabin. Really hoping for a solid winter of vids. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Jay
We will watch you and what you get up too for this season. Tents in great shape. Log burner brilliant. Im sure you had a round one couple yrs ago, it was big it was greedy for wood but kicked out some mega heat.😊😊😊😊 We are lucky here in uk if it gets to even freezing lol.
Nice video Jay. Great stove! Looking forward to upcoming adventures. Take care!
The long dark vibes, amazing
Jay your back at your original tent yeah.. been awhile... but I wanted to say yourtuagh me some nice tricks to start fire and this weekend was the test we had a big massive cabin to pass thanksgiving and fire place was needed to be warm up this place I get to place they trying to start fire and they failing
I tell them get out of way before you get hurt got the kindle small start ups then load wood this was no small fire place it size was 10x 20 feet big well I get it going instant place 3foot logs in and this place was cooking hot I was made fireman of day they loved the fire I made
I went down by water semi salted I found logs gray dry treated in salt I place them in and colors awesome everyone taking pics of it I learn this fire skill thru you and few other but you and the (Dragon stove) set me straight thanks best fire I ever made in my life thanks Jay
Great video. Enjoy that camp food while you can. 😊
Love your winter vids! Been with you from the start. Thanks Dan
You certainly have been, Dan. It's great to hear from you again. Jay
trade off with me, Coleman lantern always works but I have to carry fuel- battery lights are great but in cold weather the battery craps out fast- great video
Wish I could turn back time.🥴🥴🥴🥴 enjoyed the video too
Im not missing a single episode this winter. Ill look forward to every single one that comes
Sounds like a plan love from Michigan 🖐️🍁
Glad to see the season start and have you back in your tent. Love your videos
You knew exactly what it was going to look like. The Way you left it. 😂
Hey Jay, great to see you again! Love the new stove. I always enjoy watching your videos in the canvas wall tent. Especially when it's 40 below. I am also looking forward to seeing what you do with the cabin, and how things go there when it's really, really cold outside. As far as the Coleman lantern v. the electric one, I like them both. I've camped with both. The electric lantern is usually a little more dependable than the gas lantern, simply because you don't have to worry about the mantle burning out or running out of fuel. But when that electric battery runs down, it's good to have a propane or Coleman fuel lantern to fall back on. Looking forward to another winter of your videos!
Looking forward to the winter episodes 😊
Me too, Brad. Many to come. Jay
I’m glad you acknowledged the addiction. 😁👌
haha. I may do an intervention video one of these days.
Great Video man! Thanks
Excellent as always. That may not have been mice since there was a lack of poo, but it may have been a chipmunk or smaller squirrel. Certainly some kind of Rodentia. I don't think I've ever seen a beetle or other North American insect make that size of nest/mess of paper.
keep the details going too jay… what’s in bannock, origins, etc this is such a great educational and escape channel. for those new and those who have been following even repetition in a new way is great. 😊
Yay! Another winter season 😀. Will you be getting a hot water heater add on for your cabin wood stove? Think of all of the accessories you can showcase in the future? List could be endless, lol. Great video Jay!
Great to see you back, love your videos
Love to see you back at the tent great video and I just love your winter adventure ❤❤
Thanks Loulou. It's so good to be back at the tent. Jay
Love the videos. Keep them coming. Can’t believe you have winter already. No snow here in central Alberta. Starting to freeze up but no snow temperatures hovering around 0 C.
YUM!!! Lots of acrylamides in the potatoes!
If Jay had this tent near any major city in the US, it would be shoplifted in 5 minutes.
Six months, I’ll say I have missed the Tent. I really enjoy seeing you out there Jay. The lake is frozen already it gets so cold up there so early in the year. Tent is large and comfy. Glad to see you back. I’m thinking you would do very well on “Alone “ . If not winning outright. My interest in this genre began when I saw something on PBS . Dick Preneke a landmark video. I believe Dick was the origin of this genre. What do you think Jay.
I remember joining this channel back when you were just under 50k subs. It's cool to see you come all this way and to invite us along every time. Some nice wha'?
That's a great video on camping! I love spending quality time in nature with my family too. By the way, if you're an outdoor enthusiast or an RV lover, I highly recommend checking out the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series. It's a versatile powerhouse that can keep your devices and appliances running for extended periods, thanks to its massive capacity and fast recharging capabilities. Plus, it's built tough with its mecha design and magnesium alloy shell, making it perfect for outdoor adventures. Happy camping!
Thanks for the recommendation! I watched the video and it was indeed a great one for camping enthusiasts like us. Quality family time in nature is always wonderful. The Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series seems like a versatile powerhouse with its massive capacity and fast recharging capabilities. I'll definitely check it out for our next outdoor adventure! Happy camping!
Looking forward to it sir !!!
This is incredible. I am watching from India. I wish i can do such adventure. Would wait for more videos. Stay safe. Happy winters 🥶
New skidoo! Finally upgraded from the multi purpose!!
Yep. 2017 expy sport 900. The guy who owns the skidoo shop here in town says 90% of his sales are expy sports. Makes sense, not a lot of snow. Done with Yamaha now that they are done. Also, the expy is a solid performer in the bush from what I can tell so far. Caveman week for life. Jay
Awesome videos! Love the content 👌
So happy you finally bought a ski-doo 😃 This one is going to start at -30C 😛👍
Yes. That is definitely one of the benefits.
Gas lanterns have one advantage for cold weather camping and that is heat. It seems that you seem to have that mainly taken care of, but gas lanterns (especially Coleman fuel) will light up when it is cold out, batteries and propane don't really like the cold temps that you have. I've seen in other videos where you had to warm up a propane lantern before it would light up for you.
Showing off the new Sled… about time lol BRP forever!
Nice, maybe a squirrel. Find the nest in the wood shed or somewhere close. Track it.
Hey Jay new subscriber here if you put some pure peppermint oil down it will draw the miss out if that’s what it is. A few drops in each corner will do it and it smells amazing.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Jay. I hope you guys have a great holiday. Look forward to your next vlog. I don't leave messages typically, but I have been watching you for some time now and enjoy watching your videos. They are very relaxing and I enjoy watching them. Thank you.
Battery works great. But I always keep candles around as a Fail-Safe backup
stoves are important. The last house we were in had no wall insulation, tbh you could hear the neighbours talking in their kitchen. We had a woodsman fitted into the original fireplace and it wasnt fantastic, even burning a really hard wood, not a lot of heat, then the landlord upgraded it to a ULEB stove, also a woodsman and a stand alone. We were burning cheap pine offcuts and we were too hot. Now we are in another house with another stand alone but its not a ULEB - this house is a stone house but again no wall insulation because its mainly new builds that have wall insulation here unless it has been retrofitted. It throws out more heat than fire no 1 but even burning comparative wood not nearly as much heat as a ULEB so if you can go for a ULEB and prepare to roast yourself
o ye baby..winter is back
Canadian Tire bucket and a 4 lb hammer, can't be more Canadian ;)
And a fiskars axe
Great to see you jay! You're looking good!! I'm sure your lovely girls are keeping well! But what about the dog ?? Haven't her much on the dog front 😁🇬🇧😁 Has she turned into a husky yet? 😁.
Wish you well Jay! And good luck with the cabin! Hope that all unfolds to your desires?
Welcome back!
Love from Norway 😊😊
Great video
I used to live in Virginia and it snowed and we had this dog named roger who loved the snow but he’s not here anymore and we’re not in Virginia but I still have his collar.
Mornin 🖐😎👍
Looking great mon ami from sk
Subscribed great video. 🤘😎
Nice to see you on a Ski-Doo, I work for BRP
It's a good machine for sure
Winters comming
Thank you for sharing the video, your video is very good, I subscribed to the channel, looking forward to your next video❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
A new sled? How's she ride? Looks pretty slick. Love the camp improvements.
So weird with the fires in the summer til now and it’s winter.
I think you should have a spare glass , in the tent for the stove. Just incase.
Just remember you'll ruin lithium based batteries if you charge them when they're below freezing. Make sure you bring them up to room temp first.
I’d love to live in the NWT or Yukon
I prefer electric lites. I love the quiet. Naptha lites afe too noisy. I see you have a new snow machine. What was wrong with the Yamaha? I hear they are stopping production of snow ❄️ machines this year or next. Do like the new Ski-Doo? Maybe it will start easier in the cold.
Hey Mike. You are right yamaha is done with snowmobiles. Crazy to think they were the cream of the crop at one point. The new snowmobiole is a second hand 2017 Skidoo. I am with you ... The battery lights are just so nice.
I prefer battery. Lithium batteries do hate cold weather tho. It doesn't get crazy cold here so I always use battery powered
