  • This canvas tent is built for the brutal cold. It has a wooden internal frame and the hottest, fiercest fire-breathing stove on Earth. It's in the sub-arctic in Northern Canada. It takes on the harshest conditions mother nature can throw at it, and it still protects me as it did on day 1.
The stove is a work of art and it can go up against any cabin or tent stove on the planet.
I like my camp neat and tidy. Today I am getting this camp completely set for winter.
This tiny cabin is just 10x12, it sits on a pallet floor and has been in the wilderness for 3 years.
it's a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Join me as I get to work ensuing that this place is made over in a subtle and perfect way for the winter ahead.

I actually got goosebumps when you were speaking at the end of your video. When you acknowledged us viewers and how you brought our emotions and feelings into the situation with you. You definitely understand how we are with you in every episode of AJayinthewoods. Can’t wait to go with you every time. Thank you so much Jay.

Man, that stove really draws well! I don't know what Jerry does for a living, or maybe he's retired, but he could make a TON of money making stoves like that. I know a lot of us would absolutely step up to pre-order one.

Canada has the best gear for the cold weather. We have some hats and jackets made there...love them. We use NZ and Aussie Merino wool layers but go "North" for the outer layers...lol. Tassie has some interesting weather all months of the year and it's good to be prepared when you go on a hike. Thank You for showing us what it's like up your end of the world. Oh and it's snags or sausages all the way... 🤣😉

If it fits your chimney, maybe try it and see how it works. With the heat coming from the pipe, the oven interior should get to the temperature you want it and no guess work.

I have a 10 by 20 foot shack and over did it on the insulation . 12 inch thick pink Owens fiber glass all around . My stove is 1/4 inch stainless barrel with a 6 inch 1/8 thick 10 foot stainless stack . As like you did my friend welded it for me . One thing I did after using it for a season was to build a mold around it and back fill it with concrete and stone . 18 inches all around . The concrete will put off heat for hours after the fire goes out ! Total cost for the shack was around 1400 beans and how little wood I need to keep it smokin hot would amaze you ! I usually get by with 2 face cords a year and I'm in northern Wisconsin ! My winter home .

I have a couple of Coleman ovens. One breaks down like yours and the other is an antique that doesn't fold. I used to go on an annual fishing trip with my dad and my uncle. My uncle was a retired chef so the food was something to look forward to. My dad and I returned to camp one afternoon and found a stack of firewood outside the tent. While we had been gone Uncle Joe had rolled out pie dough with a whiskey bottle and baked three apple pies in the Coleman. He bartered two pies to a couple of fisherman for the firewood.

Have you thought about making a sand battery? If your stove can take the weight, heat up a ~25 lb bucket of sand on the hot plate whenever you're not cooking. Sand (or pebbles, or marbles) can absorb and hold lots of heat energy. Once the wood stove dies down, the sand battery will bleed heat back into the tent.
Alternatively, build up a loose brick or block wall in the corner behind the stove to absorb heat as a thermal mass. Finally, check out German tile stoves, or Kachelofen. If you clad or enclose the flue with clay flue liners filled with sand, you'll have a thermal mass that will capture some of your flue heat.

There's a couple on UA-cam that used a fibreglass welding blanket or fire blanket to make a fitted cover for their Coleman Folding Oven, and it made an impressive difference.
Retaining heat enables one's food to cook better.
That's a really neat shelter, almost a half cabin, half tent, and a wonderful place to be.
Very impressive woodstove, Jerry certainly makes fantastic stoves.

I noticed with my wood stove that once it is really ripping, if I close the vent down to certain point, slowing down the air flow passing through the stove. The flames all but disappear replaced by super heated gasses slowly rolling their way to the stack. That extra few seconds of keeping the heat in the fire box makes all the difference. Nice Parka by the way!

Jay you should get a trail/game camera and set it up near where the animals are going under the tent to see what it is and how many then you can figure out what kind of treats they like and get them on camera that would be cool. Anyways tent looks great for this season and I can't wait for more!
