CRAZY COLD FROZEN TENT IN SNOWY FOREST

- It was a cold night at the off-grid tent shack. It hit -28 overnight and I could really feel the chill setting in. The lake ice around the tent was making loud crack sounds from the cold and the aurora were dancing. I had the most amazing time taking in the peaceful and crisp surroundings. I made a delicious bannock pizza and had a good sleep in the tent.

Thank you for taking us along on your outings. I'm 58 and for the last year I have spent about 80% of my day in bed because of serious health issues. I used to spend a lot of time outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping.... I don't miss one of your episodes and most I watch numerous times. Please keep doing what you do, life is too short to not enjoy it.
All the best to you dude and I hope your health issues resolve as soon as possible.
GODSPEED
I'm 70 in December, and I have COPD, so we're in the same boat. I spent as much time as work allowed in the woods, on the beach, hunting, fishing, and camping when still a young pup. My dad was into all of this, and most likely where I got it from. I remember family camping trips into the Rockies from Bay City, Texas, as far back as the late 50s; I was 5 or 6 the first time. I'm chuckling when I see all of this cool modern gear. In my days, it was rather primitive until North Face came around in the 70s. Even then, I still used the cotton duck tarps and surplus WWII military from the Army Surplus stores. I just found this channel and subscribed because the man actually thought enough of crippled old farts like you and me.
Wishing you all the best and a future back out in the woods.
I’m 73 and can’t do these kind of adventures any more. Together we can experience that old “joy” through these videos. From someone who understands!
Jay im 49 got some health issues. Just came home on thev3rd of NOV and found my dad past away sitting in his chair. He was 70 he just got the date for his knee replacement surgery and was looking forward to make a few more memorable trips together. He was my dad who tought me to camp hunt make a fire fish everything. But most importantly he was my bestfriend. Thank you for this video. I really needed it.. Great channel. I just wanted 1 more camp with dad but i will never get that. Watching this helped. Best wishes brother.
I dont comment much on videos, but I just have to say I love your channel so much! So glad the winter is back and we get to see more of these amazing videos. I can tell how much work you put into this and it doesn’t go unnoticed, the shots you get are beautiful. Truly incredible work, Jay!
I really loved reading this comment. Thanks so much. Sincerely, Jay.
I agree
Hey Jay ,
Greetings from Newcastle, Australia.
Yep I've subbed 👍
We have nothing like what you are blessed with in the North.
I love every episode, especially winter white outs .
Your easy going nature and surrounds are inspiring to me .
I can only dream of what you experience, our hot , hot summers and mild winter's don't compare however on a hot summers night watching you in -20 degree snow adds a feeling of comfort ❤
Keep it up .

That is a real insight
You really hit me with your closing comments about how older people watch because they can't do it anymore. I just realized that I'm that person, I wish that I followed something like your channel 20 yrs ago. Thank you for your content.
When Jay was monologing under the northern lights talking about being miles from anyone else, I started to tear up😢. I felt that.
Wow. This is a really wonderful comment to read. Thanks so much for sharing this, Bruce. I hope you have a great week. Jay
The Northern lights are on my bucket list and I enjoyed seeing them in your video. Thank you for sharing.
Love the northern lights wish he would show more. They make me emotional too.
You know what they say, “Hike and camp while you can.” Make memories now, to live off of later.
Thank you SO much for your vids, convos, AND adventures! As a disabled person, this channel puts me right there! I can smell the wood, take in crisp air and stomp around in snow!!!! Thanks very very much!!! Your Massachusetts friend. :)
Thanks Rebecca. I'm glad you enjoy the channel so much. Jay
Nothing like a hot tent in the frigid cold. The most basic of survival skills can be so satisfying,
Thank you, Mr. JAY! We love that you can share these special moments with us too!
Thank you. Thank you thank you. I have lived through many adventures that are beyond me now. I truly experience your joy of the rugged outdoors through these videos. Txs again❣️
I feel God certain places better than others. When I was young my dream was to homestead out back in Alaska, but I grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan, and also loved the beach life. My wife would not go to Alaska with me, so I settled on tropical paradise in Cape Coral Florida. I know you’re not in Alaska, but you help me scratch my itch. Thank you brother, you’re living the other half of my heart. God bless you.
Thanks for the light show Jay✨️Appreciate you my friend 🙏🏻 God Bless
Stay warm 🤞🏻😊
Jay! That pizza looked so tasty! Love that oven on your stovepipe! Those northern lights and moon shots were amazing! Thanks for bringing those to us. T!
I think it's pretty safe to declare that you have the coolest stove/oven combination on the face of the planet. Pizza looks awesome!
I'm 76 years old. Not able to camp anylonger but really enjoy watching your videos.
Just got home from a surgical procedure and watched your video which was relaxing for me. Thanks. And the pizza looked good.
Watching your brilliant Videos Jay gives me experiences i can't get in real life but i feel as if I'm there with you while you film and you always make me feel so welcome
I've watched random videos of yours off and on for a while now. I have a younger sister who is homeless in SoCal, living in a van, she is disabled, been researching ways to provide her with a stabler living space with more amenities and thus looking at large inflatable tents as a possible solution, which is how I stumbled once again on your channel and your review of the tent you camped in last June. That video linked me to this one, and this one made me realize I've "liked" every video I've seen of yours, so this time I also subscribed. I love your tent shack, lived in one very similar many years ago when I was a National Park employee and loved it. Best spring/summer/autumn of my life. Like you, I am deeply appreciative of the spiritual essence found when alone and in a place of isolation, the silence, the beauty of the skies (night and day)...just not something easy to find and experience these days. I'm getting up there in years now and my opportunities to renew my personal bonds with the natural world are becoming more difficult to achieve, so I really appreciate finding a channel such as yours. Now that I am a subscriber, I hope to make time to go back to day one, video one and watch your journey. Oh and, if you have any ideas about how to help me get my baby sis out of the cesspool of SoCal, I would be very glad to hear them.
Jay, you are an inspiration to many and since I started to follow you I have changed my life from living on the couch to getting out along with my wife to live life to the fullest. We bought a trailer this past March 2023 and we had the best summer ever, getting out to enjoy nature, kayaking, hiking, and making campfires Jay style. We made some of the meals that you have shown here and oh yes we love both thick and thin-crust pizza YES the sauce is important. I used to winter camp back in my late teens and 20's but now 54 we went with a little more comfort, making sure my wife was happy. Jay THANK YOU and I look forward always to every video, thanks for showing how beautiful the world is. I am like you I sit out and watch the stars, and moon and enjoy the silence. You are the Best Jay look forward to seeing really soon.
Echoing what many many people are saying. Thankyou for letting me live the outdoor life through your films. It’s been years since I could even dream of doing anything like this for one reason or another.
Jay, anywhere after the 15:30 mark, if you can isolate one frame, THAT is the picture of a lifetime. What an AMAZING weekend for you. I'm almost as green, as those Northern Lights, with envy. Carry on my good man. God bless.
I never comment on videos but seeing the Northern lights in your video brought a tear to my eye…I’m a single mom stuck in the city…sleeping outside on the porch is the closest I can get to what you have…thank you for your videos they bring me joy 😊
Such a gorgeous place to live and enjoy winter. Most people hate the cold and snow but I love it like you do Jay. Your videos are amazing. Just enough talking, just enough watching with no talking, and beautiful scenery.
The most important things in live are health, freddom and love !!!You really have the skills to transmit all these !!!
Watching Jay camp out in this tent in the freezing cold, is like comfort food for the soul. ❤😅
Thanks Ned!
I really miss it.
I just found you and am watching it. Looks good so far. 👍🏻
There’s something peaceful about winter and camping.
The Northern Lights always make my heart melt. I absolutely love it when you share those moments with us. Also, deep dish pizza all the way! 😆
Jay, your emotion and joy doing what you do, is a joy to watch. I'm living it vicariously through you, that speech was emotional. I've waited for the winter wonderland to return for you. You are at one with your surroundings, Thank you for doing what you do.
Dear Jay
Even though some of your contents are repetitive, I still love your show and I like it every time 👌👌👌👏👏👍
Thanks Jay for the great images and the slow simple peaceful vibe this place brings you. As an amateur radio operator, I knew we were due for nice Northern Lights this weekend because of a massive flare on the Sun and I was hoping you'd show them in a video this week. Spendid!
Keep making those videos. They are so nice and I'm sure they bring joy to lots of people. Thank you!
Hi there Jay, my name is Kyle and I have been watching your videos for at least three to four years now. Haven’t been subbed quite as long but a majority of that time. I cannot describe how much your videos mean to me-and your sit downs where you just talk to us are some of my favorite parts! It would (selfishly) be a dream for US if you could go full time because then we get more videos 😊. In the meantime, I will be better about liking and commenting more consistently (along with hoping and praying) to help your channel grow! I hope others do the same. It’s clear you are just a very good man with a heart of gold-no one would deserve it more! Take care Jay, see you in the next video!
Jeff from East Tennessee. Tonight down to 27 degrees. I have a big old wood burning stove in the living room. I sleep in my lazy boy Sophia a few feet from the stove. It’s a little more work to burn firewood for heat but it’s heaven. I love watching the fire! Heaven on earth!! Thanks for your video!
Jay...thank you. This one was a winner. You've come a long way. Kudos.
I’ve watched your channel from Day 1. I seen the transformation from novice to seasoned bushwhacker ( or whatever the term may be) you have confidence in yourself and your skills. It’s a great channel, and I know that what your doing isn’t easy, physically or mentally, so thanks man. And yes,, the lights , the frozen lake,, etc, makes one wonder and realize just how lucky we are, and at the same time how fragile it all is……..
Hey lm 61 and lived for a full year in Ontario . Love the northern lights segment . Your really living the / or a dream, thanks for including all of us .Beautiful night sky here in KC but really enjoy the view from the ice .
Omg I feel seen! I’m in a wheelchair and I’d love to spend a night in your tent- chopping wood, cooking on a stove, the snow (I prefer winter!). So getting to watch you enjoying yourself fills me with joy! ❤ enjoy the dream!
Bless you for sharing with us. I too agree the lights are like a religious experience. I lay on the beach many years ago in Ontario and watched the most spiritual experience of my life as the lights danced all night long in a kaleidoscope of colours. A once in a lifetime experience.
Love, your channel, i just turned 66 yrs and am not able to do what you do know and enjoy everythng you do. God bless stay safe n well. 😊
Thank you for sharing the Northern Lights with me! If i was there I'd bring out a chair and just sit out on that lake for a while and take it all in! When I was a kid I used to read Jack London books and try to imagine what the Lights really look like from his descriptions! You actually get to live up there in that Great Up North that London romanticized in so many wonderful books! You're so lucky! I definitely live vicariously through you! My health would never allow me to live like that! I could visit if I'm taken care of like it's a hotel, but I could never handle being out in the cold and chopping wood and changing out stovepipes and everything you do! I really appreciate your channel so much because I get a tiny taste of that life through you! I hope you can eventually move to doing it full-time. But, like you said, maybe it's sweeter because it's a treat when you're off work. If it was your full-time job it might not be so good. Who knows?
I live on the border of Wales and England and I go around and install satellite tv in and around the green hills of Wales, but to be where you are, just once, seeing the lights and eating pizza, that would be a gift. Many thanks Jay :)
Thank you for sharing the lights were absolutely amazing
22:57 Love watching this channel, Jay! Your passion and appreciation you have for your viewers are unlike any other. Thank You for taking us along on your journey!! So glad the cold weather is back!! Keep it up, sir!! You are an inspiration us Mississippians 👍🏻💪🏻
It's crazy how many big UA-cam channels are located in Azerbaijan! They're all basically doing the exact same things too with millions of subscribers each! It definitely is one of the most beautiful places I've seen.
Man, I really like these Tent videos with all the snow and everything! They are always so chill and its a little escape from the crappy weather I see all day. Such a treat to watch! Thanks for your videos, keep em up!
Jay, you make me very happy-and I am especially happy when you head to the tent in winter. We all must live life to the fullest while we are able-and we are so glad we get to experience this with you. Thank you so much.
As a native Minnesotan, I completely understand the crisp, fresh air and the serenity of the absolute quiet. This was an epic trip, from the perfect pizza to the nightime light show.
How lovely to see you enjoying your natural habitat.
Thank you for sharing. The Northern Lights are stunning. The solitude, the beauty of nature outside and coziness inside look amazing.
Great video. Sharing all that made me feel like I was there. Passion is incredable
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I'm one of those old guys that can really enjoy living vicariously through these videos.
I love it. It is absolutely beautiful. Stay safe. Peace and Blessings from Connecticut ❤
I am very happy for you Jay that camping in that cold environment is pleasing to you, although I could not take it any more. I was in the army from 1963-68 and spent a tour in South Korea up on the DMZ for two winters. From Jan. 64 to Feb. 65 and man -10 to -15 was more than I can take. Left Korea and back into cold winters in Hanau, West Germany. -5 in the winter. If you like that well then God Bless you and stay safe. I love your channel and Baum out doors. Take care and God Bless you.
Hey Jay! I just came across your channel and I am hooked! I am a 59 yr old handicapped lady who can't get out much and your videos make me feel like I am out there with you!!! Really enjoying your content friend! 💚💚
I really appreciate the dusk pictures and video that shows the beautiful soft gradient of colors. That’s for what you do and sharing your videos with us.
Hey, "guy in a tent outdoors in the cold", lol... thank you for these videos...i really enjoy and appreciate them.
I have enjoyed your videos .
Reminds me of the good times i had growing up on the Alaska highway YT. Staying in wall tents was something I will never forget .
Lovely campout, beautiful surroundings. Thanks for having us along!
Love your videos. The northern lights going through the Big Dipper was breath taking. You are so so lucky and I envy you my friend. Thanks for taking me along on your adventures.
I feel it, and I come back every time. I enjoy tagging along for the adventure. Can’t wait for the next one!
20:20 - that Northern Lights shot was something incredible! Watching that thing ripple through a hundred miles of sky makes me feel mighty small. But...stoking the stove from your BED? That's genius!
Hi Jay, your Chanel is my absolute favourite. I wait patiently for each new instalment. I get you, I totally feel what you are saying. How you described how you feel about being out in your tent, the tranquility, isolation, beauty, the cold…. The north! It’s definitely on my bucket list. I will get there, and until I do, please continue to inspire. Thank you. 😊
Thanks so much, Trudy. I'm really glad you are enjoying the channel. More vids to come. Jay
Yes, absolutely beautiful up there... no doubt. Thanks. Alan 🇨🇱
Pizza You can never go wrong with enough sauce Awesome time lapse Of the northern lights Thanks for sharing
The Northern lights were absolutely amazing thanks Jay for sharing it was awesome
My pleasure, Andrew.
@@jaylegere it was absolutely fantastic location cheers Jay you can Crystal take care 😊👍
Good video, Jay. You're exactly right about buying nice, secondhand stuff. On the Bic Lighters here is another trick: lay the lighter flat in the palm of your hand. Place your other hand on top like a person holds their hands in prayer. Slide your hands back and forth real quick for about 5-10 seconds. The friction generates heat which allows ignition.
Love your videos. I am 70 and miss camping so much. Keep on keeping on.
You are an inspiration man! Thanks for everything you do! 💯
Right on! Thanks so much. Jay
Never been a camper. Never wanted to be one, but love your channel and your passion for life!
Dang bro the Northern Lights with the big dipper behind them... absolutely awesome!
🤘😁👍
Love watching
I live in Sask and typically don't like winter. But that place is a sight to behold. It makes winter look beautiful and breath taking! Keep up the great work! Sidebar: ever try whistling to the northern lights? I heard if you do they will come dance closer to you! 🙂
Brilliant amazing country love your vids nice to see the northern light scene so beautiful i watch your channel just so interesting keep making these remarcable videos thanks Jay
Being from Chicago myself, I love a good deep dish especially in the winter. Thin crust is great too.
Yes. Both are great.
I love watching all of your videos. Thank you for bringing us along and sharing this with us. Your videos make this old woman happy. Have the most blessed Holidays to you and your girlfriend
Wow! Pizza and northern lights! You are blessed! Thank you for sharing, just beautiful. But, now I want pizza
Having lived in the North Slope of Alaska for several years, I love watching your experiences as they help me relive my life in Alaska. You are so right about the silence, crispness, and the northern lights which I am always in awe of…thank you for sharing.😊
Jay!! I can't thank you enough 🙏 for the content & quality videos. Which you deliver without fail.
Your enthusiasm, emotions come through always. I truly wish that I could do that as you do. I'm too old now, there are health issues as well. Thanks man 🙏
With the time I have left. I teleport to the Great White North. I look forward to each video.
Be safe 🙏 Be Well 🙏 Bless you 🙏
Hey Jay it's awesome there. The beautiful northern lights along with the snowy conditions. It's the world I love man. Keep it coming.
Thanks Jay for the beautiful adventure, I do appreciate…….
One dude, in a tent by himself, I'll bet that tent is already smelly after supper😮 😊
I sure do miss those Northern lights and the peace of the bush and the wood fire. If only I could afford to go back.
gracias !! es gratificante ver lo que esta pasando a tantos kilómetros, lo hermoso de estos momentos , que envidia .
Wow fab pizza ❤ fab location, wonderful
Well done, that looks as close to heaven as you can be, the contemplation you give to your viewers is heartfelt, god bless from Great Britain.
Hey Jay. Keep doing this Bro it's wonderful 😊 everybody loves your videos. Your very special bro you make us all feel a little bit better. Thanks for that pall. Big up you sunshine you made made a lot of people very welcome and happy thanks for that. We owe you trust me. 🙏 Massive thanks and respect
In the 80s, we often had temperatures around -20/-25°C but Northern lights not or when, it was a rarity.. and what do you know..
Temperatures like those are by far not that low anymore, just like snow up to 1mtr deep, also something I miss so much.. the glistening, the sound when walking on the snow, I love it!
Some winters we hit a rare deep of -8C and if we are lucky, some parts of the country a 30cm of snow but that has been for some kids even a phenomenon they got to see when they were in there teens.
But lately we have something that is a absolutely rare experience, phenomenon.. Northern lights!!
And Jay, I am a long time viewer of your channel, I do not answer often, that is just how I roll 😊 but you were looking at something that I was looking at.. from a totally different timezone, timestamp and for me, and many more people a absolute fantastic experience.. (it is even so that huge amounts of people who want to see it, go to Island by plane or those with a camper, travel to the tip of Norway and hope to eventually see it, if it is even happening!
But.. we both were looking at what was happening above your head.. was happening the same day above mine.. Green lights dancing in a line.. shifting from left to right..
And even more special to me because a couple of weeks prior it was happening full force in green and pinkish to deep purple red.. just magic..
This whole country was in a euphoric state, lol! 😀
But it was dang strange and Soo special to witness for real, really looking up and see a string of light, dance..
And, until Dec 20th, the chance of reoccurring is extremely high to see it from my country and just 10 minutes ago watching outside, there it was again, no reds, but a green string..
Just pure magic!
Now just a quiet world due to snow.. is what I am missing..
But, they say in some parts of the country there can be a chance, just not where I live.
A decade ago I would step in my car and go to places with snow but those days are sadly not realistic anymore.
But, I'm honestly immensely grateful for what has been given, I really thought that in my lifetime it was a done deal..
A bucket list thing I can put a mark behind..
What a sensational thing to see and how remarkable is mother nature.. just unbelievable..
I have always loved your channel for many reasons, and one of them is your videography!
Truly, thank you for what you do and what you give 👌👍😃
Great again pal 👍 keep it up your not dreaming pal you its no dream you found heaven enjoy andy uk
Thank you for sharing these Northern Lights, what a beautiful sight. big fan from The Netherlands! Keep up the good work Jay
This was one of your good videos... Winter camping is the best... No mosquitos... None !!!
Had the same snowmachine, excellent rig. Good pulling, good in deep snow, never an issue. I sold it to a buddy as i never really used it. in 4 or 5 years i had 1500kms. Just didn't want it rotting away when someone could actually use it.
You will like it!
I always enjoy your videos. The serenity of the wilderness is good for the soul. Looking forward to more of your adventures. 👍.
The peace. Silence with the tree. Beautiful! Excuse my mistakes,English is a second language for me. Can I write in French? I a am very sick. I can not go to the forest anymore. I watch your vidéo with joy. I past ma day in my bed. And I can smell your fire with small branches. My God! It was very good time.
When I was young and walk over the snow like that,it’s stronger then me but I always think to Mother Nature eating Corn Flakes! Crunch! Crunch!
And northern light are beautiful. Thank you.
Love the video as always cant wait for the next one
Nice drone footage and that pizza looked pretty good.
Love watching your activities. Cooking great meals in the great outdoors is just joy.
Im 75 and in my younger days this would be my thing. Still love the snow when we get it. Im retired and dont have to get out in it. Now about the pizza😮😮. You had me smelling pizza and wanting pizza. 😅😅
I also watch him as well. I wait for the thumb to know its super.
I grew up in Chicago so personally I prefer deep dish pizza. Love the Northern Lights.
Thanks for the adventure Love the Northern Lights
You will get there, Jay. You will get to be full-time. I see it in your future. Your content is fascinating. Let’s go!
Thanks for sharing the absolutely gorgeous Northern Lights!
This is one of my go-to channels for winter camping: your setup is close to perfect, any of your tents! Can't wait for enough snow around here(central Vermont, USA) for me to break out my own hot tent and stove..I'm 68 and hopefully have a couple of years of winter camping still in me..thanks for bringing me along on your adventure.
Such a gorgeous night! Thanks for sharing, Jay.
What you’re doing is good Jay, more than you know. You are someone thousands of people wait every week to see what you’ve been up to. I think too, that for some of us who have been with you from the beginning, it has been “lifting” to watch how you have grown (as a camping dude). You also are a very descent human. I’ve never met you but Im sure you’re a genuine person.
P.S. I think you should runway model any new sweaters we haven’t seen yet 😁
Haha. Thanks for both of these comments Laura. And thanks for sticking it out with the channel for so long. Sincerely, Jay
@@jaylegere❤
You are too funny (in a cute way)
I just found your channel, this is the second video I watch from the warmth of my bed, all the way in Greenville , South Carolina USA 😊😊.. our cold is nothing compared to yours! I admire your guts to do this, I appreciate it 🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing the Northern lights 😍😍😍 beautiful! You are not cheesy or anything like that, any human being with any comprehension of beauty would be in complete awe before such a phenomena. So many of us, I of course, will never see it in person!
