the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum is genuinely such a sad and dark place to visit. There are so many graves that were marked only with patient numbers, a massive crematorium, and the building was never structurally sound enough to last. The floor has fallen through in multiple places. It's so fucked that people go there and to places like that for silly fun spooks when real human beings spent the majority of their lives there in pain and isolation.
I love Kesha’s music but my god is she a weird lady. I just assume it’s from all that trauma.

It is part of a series of photography experiments about what a horse's gait actually looks like. You know all that. But the guy who commissioned the whole shebang, owned the horse and the track, was Leeland Stanford, former govenour of California, railroad tycoon and robber baron. The thing where they celebrated the transcontinental railroad being finished with a gold nail? That was Stanford. He basically invented California, and after he was done enslaving natives, exploiting the soil for gold and imposing capitalism for centuries to come, he did the techbro thing. You know, the thing where he gets really interested in a topic nto related to his actual expertise and assumes he knows more about it than everyone else. His thing was racehorse breeding and coincidentially, he ended up being right.
