I struggle with an ED. I have Anorexia Nervosa. I'm at a healthier weight now but at my lowest I stopped getting my period, my hair was falling out, and I couldn't keep myself warm. I got all the way to that point being praised. As a kid I was body shamed even though the most I've weighed was 130lbs when I was 5"4 and 13 years old. It's not about health, it's about whether or not they think you look nice and honestly, those who shame fat people have shitty fucking taste.

Seeing people talk about not shaving being ok helps peoples mental health and for me my physical health as well. I started getting bullied in 4th grade for having hair on my legs so I started shaving and soon found out that I was allergic to it or something (I break out all over and have even gotten blisters) and couldn't find anything to help it or make that stop.
Yet kept shaving through middle and high school bc of how mean people were when I didnt shave. It left me scars all over my body and anxiety about my skin.
Then I started seeing people be open with not shaving and speaking up about how people get treated when they don't and it finally got me to start feeling comfortable with my skin and stop shaving. My skin is so much healthier and I'm finally able to feel confident about going out without shaving bc I know I'm not the only one and that it doesn't really matter. It's just hair.

I relate so hard to this. Although, I do wanna add that it may not have been an allergy. Shaving creams and even certain types of blades can really hurt people who have sensitive skin. Ofc, you could have had an allergy to these types of things, but most of the time, it comes from stuff like bacteria build-up in razors causing rashes, bumps, and blisters. Shaving is not for everyone and I'm so sick of people acting like it is.
People say it's 'unhygienic", but that's just an absurd statement. It's only unhygienic if you don't fucking shower lmao. The hair on your body is probably even easier to keep clean than the hair on your head since it's less dense and (usually) shorter and thinner. You might as well start going around saying that everyone with hair on their head is dirty and gross.

Ever since I stopped watching sensitive society and people like him, I've actually started to find it easier to think about why someone's situation is the way it is and actually be happy for someone just being themselves.
I'm trans, and have been for a few years now. When I first realized I was, I was still watching people like sensitive, and I thought that I was a ''better'' trans person than the people sensitive would talk about because I wasn't ''cringe'' or ''woke''.
I thought that fat people should be ashamed because they could just exercise and everything would be fine.
I thought that a woman who had body hair was gross and didn't care about herself.
Point being, I thought a lot of hateful things and believed I was different from the masses because ''I knew better. I was better.''
A few months ago, I slowly stopped watching sensitive society. I stopped making presumptions about people based on a first glance and a singular personality trait. I started actually thinking about what I was watching. Then I saw this video, and it felt like my previous ways of thinking were just laid out in front of me and explained. I know I've grown because I cringe now at who I almost became.
I may not be fat, and I may not be a woman(anymore), but I'm not better than people who are just because I'm not. I realized that people actually can be healthy and overweight. I realized that women who choose not to shave are just people who made a choice and it shouldn't matter to me. I realized that the trans people he called ''cringe'' were simply just being themselves and being happy in their life choice. I realized that I am no better than them, and they are no better than me, because we are all the same. We all live, laugh, and love, if you will. We're all better than the people who try to tear us down for loving ourselves.
And I think that's a good thing to be. :)

this is so true. i went on birth control a year ago and immediately started gaining fast. put on 60lbs in 6 months and didn't even recognize myself in the mirror anymore. Changed my diet and started going to the gym 3 times a week and ultimately had to stop with the birth control just to Stop myself from continuing to put on weight. I still haven't lost anything though I exercise and eat far better than I did when I was a size 6, and I think it has something to do with me gaining muscle mass from all the exercise. Weight loss is not as simple as fatphobes will make it seem at all, changes in diet have no guaranteed effect, medications are going to impact you however they want and a lot of the time you can't just stop a medication if it's needed, and exercise can even make you gain weight. And regardless, bodies are designed to put on weight as you age. i dont understand how people can have such stupid takes on something as natural as your body storing fat but considering this guy never heard of "the mexican community" i dont think he's every been outside to see different body shapes and sizes, or felt the loving touch of another human

If being laconic -- there's no harm in being fat without any reasons such as medication etc

I think the main takeaway and lesson to be learned from the last guy, and a good general thing to keep in mind broadly is that: you don't have to want to fuck everyone you see. I'm not the best looking guy. I used to be really insecure about that, and drawn to this kind of content as a result of it. But through my teenage years I kinda came to the realization that I'm not really paying attention to how people look nearly as much as I thought people were paying attention to the way I look. And I have had *plenty* of success in my sex life, because my attitude has shifted from one of judgement to one of acceptance. I know what I look like. I know who I am. And I do my best to portray that authentically, and people pick up on that. Not everyone's gonna want to have sex with you and you should be okay with that, because do you want to have sex with everyone you see? Even if they're generally attractive? I hope to god the answer is no.

Additionally I'm not gonna act like this is a cure-all. "Just be yourself" doesn't work if you don't know who you are. I started going to therapy after I dated someone that kinda ruined my life and I discovered a lot about myself there. I needed therapy anyway, as it turns out I've had C-PTSD for a long time, but my ex was the catalyst. If you really, really struggle to accept yourself, which I don't doubt that many do, maybe consider that the problem is your non-acceptance of yourself, rather than others not accepting you. I don't say this to say you're the root of all your problems and you should blame yourself, (I've been there too, it's not a helpful attitude) but to say that if you only trim your lawn, and don't clean the inside of your house, you'll feel just as cluttered as you always have because you live *inside* the house. Hey Ethan I just wanted to say thank you for making videos.
I'm autistic and terrible at verbalizing my thoughts in real life. Typing is easier because I can do it at my own pace, but in real life I just can't find the words to use right away and and can't hold conversation very well unless I've rehearsed that exact situation before and am able to memories phrases and sentences like song lyrics. ESPECIALLY topics that are meant to be debated, like politics. I've been using a few speech patterns of yours to use when making sentences on the fly, and memorized the wording of a few of your responses to things that I agree with so if I'm ever faced with the same thing I have something to say.
There's this guy in my D&D group (lots of trans and gay members, the leader/creator of the club is a trans women, you get the picture) and classes, and we just recently found out he's very anti-abortion, and a bunch of other just... bad shit. This has happened before with different people at different times in my life.. but this time I was able to convey my thoughts verbally in real time.
The guy in the club got in a debate with the table about women's rights, and I was able to not only have a discussion with him and debate him on the topic, but I won. Admittedly it's kind of hard to lose a debate when your opponent is saying "women kill babies for abortion and don't deserve the right to choose etc." But I held my ground perfectly and for the first time, instead of just sitting back and letting people say things, I was able to contribute to a serious conversation and the thoughts in my head all came out as I thought them, no delay!
It's kind of stupid, idk why I'm sharing this publicly.. but I just feel like on the off chance you see this, I wanna say thanks for everything you do. You inspire me to speak my mind. Thank you.

The whole ”female streamers get everything easy” counterpoint was really good! Because yes, they might not always make as many jokes etc as some male streamers do but at the end of the day, they make up for it in spending money in their styling, backgrounds and lighting. Some of these dudes just sit down and start playing, for female streamers it is a prepping process of a few hours before the stream. And different people like different content: Some want to pay for seeing someone extremely witty just focusing on the game and not on their appearance, some like the aesthetics of the female streamers. If there is an audience for it and it doesn’t hurt anyone, does it really matter which part of the stream the streamer spends the most attention to? These commentary channels are just butthurt.

People who design things are (ideally) always trying to accommodate for "minorities" so his argument doesn't make any sense at all.

    • @notyourjakey
      @notyourjakey Рік тому +26

There's also the fact that many accessibly things are also useful for people who don't have the disability it's meant to help. Subtitles are great for hearing people in many cases like noisy bars and drs offices that have a TV on mute, foregn tv/movies that don't have a (good) dub, or if you're watching something and someone is sleeping and you don't want to disturb them. Ramps are great for strollers, bikes, other things with wheels and people who aren't paying attention. Most people I know take the elevator even if they're fully capable of taking the stairs and waiting for the elevator would take longer. TtS/StT/voice commands/audio books are great when driving/multitasking. The idea that accessibly stuff only helps a teeny tiny amount of disabled people is completely wrong and also greatly underestimates how common disabilities are, and how some exist on a spectrum (eg. Sight and hearing, tons of people wear glasses or have some kind of (at least minor) hearing issue)
Even if you think in a purely capitalistic way, it makes sense to put a bit of extra effort into making things accessible so that you can get those disabled folk's sweet sweet money.
There's also the point about how anyone can become disabled in many ways at any time for many reasons even if they do their best to do everything the "right" way bc shit happens (same goes for weight, you can get a disease/disorder/medication and no/a shitty doctor who at best doesn't help or at worst makes things worse), but I've already gone on long enough 😅
