There are certain dogs bred and trained to take on wild beasts. Central Asian Shepherds, Kangals and such. These dogs are not pansies and would make short work of a mountain lion, bear or wolf.

Just 3 years ago on the El Dorado trail in El Dorado county, a ML was stalking trail users, exhibited no fear of humans, and had to be put down by a deputy. In April 1994, Barbara Schoener, 40, was killed while out jogging near Cool. The ML was tracked and euthanized. It weighed only 80 pounds. It's sobering to realize something only 80 pounds can kill a fit and healthy human. Of the 6 fatal ML attacks since 1994, 3 occurred in CA.
It happens on rare occasions but personally, ( I have lived in both EL Dorado & Placer County for decades ) I'm a lot more concerned about a human animal attacking me, especially a mass shooter.

Mountain lions want healthy prey. No, it's not like they get a taste of human and then become "human eaters." You have watched too many movies. They are opportunists and this will happen more and more as wildlife get squeezed out by development. It's possible that mountain lion lost some of its range due to competition since they are building on 200+ acres in southern Folsom and building like crazy in El Dorado Hills.

Of course my heart goes out to that man, his brother, and their loved ones but i'm so tired of seeing animals being treated badly and as less then and it's impossible for me to feel sorry for anyone other then the animal 🤷🏻♀️
This poor animal was killed after the fact (euthanized) despite it not doing it to be cruel but out of survival (to eat, to protect themselves, to protect their babies, etc) animals aren't like humans humans do shit strictly out of evilness and selfishness whereas animals do not plus keep in mind these humans are going into THEIR home then acting all surprised when they get hurt/killed (it's no different then people who go swimming in the ocean then complain if they get bit by a shark- if someone randomly popped up into your home you wouldn't be too happy about it either). Had their death occurred in the moment that would be different but deciding to go back after the fact "To GeT eVeN" blows my mind and how evil and selfish humans can be.
Humans act like they're these perfect gods who have the right to dictate who can and cannot live and are above everything else (when in reality we're animals too less hairy primates and if anything we're the ones who are less then), have made countless animals extinct, have made countless animals endangered, force animals to breed to sell their babies for profit, snatch animals out of the wild to sell in the black market for profit, kill millions in animal shelters, kill billions in the farming industry, are overfishing, have wiped up hundreds of millions to billions of acres of land, destroyed habits (then complain when animals have no other choice but to come into other places), think they have to right to decide who does and doesn't "deserve" to live, wrongly with zero authority punish animals in the worst cruel evil inhumane way possible but humans that hurt and kill other people and animals they don't do immaturely jump to death and somehow think murdering another human is bad no matter how evil but killing animals is okay and god forbid they hurt or kill a human they're the most evil monster plus thing ever, when an animal isn't well they'll rush to want to kill them but will fight to keep humans alive, and act like it's the end of the world when an animal hurts or kills a human but don't care that when you compare how many animals we kill to how many animals we're killed by (humans kill millions or more per year whereas animals kill maybe a dozen if that per year) and that's not even counting all the damage we're doing to the earth (pollution, trash, wiping forests to build our bullshit, etc).
Fuck humans 🤷🏻♀️

It very odd for a mountain lion to attack humans, they usually avoid humans, not less it a mother protecting cubs, they usually just lure you away. Only other reason would be if the mountain lion got rabies.
No. It happens pretty regularly. Some of them just do. Same for black bears.
Its not odd in Cali. Happens a lot now. After the bleeding hearts decided they were too neat to regulate through hunting tags, the population has skyrocketed. Too many lions in the state now and they are wiping out the deer and the lions are really hungry and attacking people. So rabies is not the reason. Lions are a non endangered protected animal by law, and there are consequences for that.
