The scam was about bail money. Some people have suggested the scammers said they were cops telling him it wouldn't matter if he called them and, being cops, it would be easy to make good on their threats.
@@woodstream6137 There are literally dozens of state & federal agencies that one could call about misconduct by local police. In the case of kidnapping & ransom, it's usually the FBI.

Don't worry, it won't happen. The cops won't try to find him and the crooked liberal DA is fully content with making headlines of getting a guy with a gun locked up.
Very possibly an overseas scam. I hope they find them, but possibly not. These scams are occuring all the time. Some scams even have voice recording of loved ones ( from cell phones) to carry out the scam. Call the police if you get a call. Try to get callback number from the scammer.

Somebody made threats to the guy and his family on behalf of her (at least as a patsy). Whoever made the threats, ransom demands, and called her to pick up the package needs to face some real consequences.
Caller need to be tracked and arrested.
Being scammed doesn’t give you right to take the laws into your hands. Send the old man to prison.

She was in her 60s, was unarmed, had a limp, and was trying to leave. I hope they put him in jail for whatever's left of his miserable life.

There is the bad guy (The person that made the phone calls that set this tragedy into motion) playing on the old man's fears and uncertainty of a loved one being threatened for ransom. There's the victim that became the bad guy (The old man with the gun) who, as I said before was acting out of fear and uncertainty over what he perceived as a treat to a loved one, who should've called the police instead of pulling his gun on an innocent woman making him a murderer. And the true victim made pawn (The female Uber driver) who was shot in cold blood. I am not excusing what the old man did, because the moment he went after the woman when she was trying to leave, it was not self defense or anything altruistic, but murder. However, the real bad guy at the forefront of all this is the caller, and I hope the police will do everything possible to find him and bring him to justice for his actions. Sorry for the lengthy reply.

Chances are they won't, they probably use the Uber as a money mule, who will then unsuspectingly, drop it off to an address where the package will be stolen and then shipped, or the shipment address, is that of another money mule.

The scammer called claimed he was a cop, sent this woman to his house to get the money. The old guy may not have known better, he was harassed and threatened over the phone and may have believed she was there to rob him.

The gun owner/shooter/killer should have known she was not there to rob him. Like you said, she could barely move at a brisk pace. However, in court, I'd wager his lawyer will argue that being old, being pursued in a scam, etc. is a reason against the accusation of murder.

A lot of people seem to forget that anyone accused of crime is presumed innocent until proven beyond a reasonable doubt to be guilty in a court of law. Even in cases where it is as obvious as what we see here, there is still a process that must be followed.

This call was NOT placed by that man and furthmore, uber drivers are not told to get out of the car and walk up to the houses to try and find their ride.. they cancel if they dont come out or show up.
