    I appreciate that they didn't have Ray reciprocate any flirty or romantic feelings towards the 2 younger girls. (The cheek kiss at the end always felt innocent to me. Like, big brother energy)

      plus they were delulu for thinking that they had a chance with Raymond and initially told Aquamarine to pick someone else. They were 13 so they were too young for him, but I think it’s normal to have a little crush on older men at that age even though they wouldn’t have a chance

    The movie was filmed in Australia. The only American actors are Emma Roberts( Claire ), JoJo ( Hailey ),Sara Paxton ( Aquqmarine ), Jake McDorman ( Raymond ), & Arielle Kebbel ( Cecillia ). All of the other actors in the movie are Aussies speaking with American accents.

      @@aly_the_mystic888In most movies or tv shows they don't actually film in the place it's based in. A lot of American tv shows & movies are actually filmed in Canada. It's cheaper to make in Canada and Australia & then Australia usually has a deal where they need a certain amount of Aussie actors in the role if filmed in Australia.

    I like how the scene with Leonard set up what he already knew.
    While not suspicious to us, the scale and the necklace led him to the book he read already about mermaids. That was a nice writing touch. And am glad he was the one to rescue Aquamarine and keep her secret too.
    And she was the one that suggested the wish. He didn’t ask. She just wanted to push two potential lovebirds together and repay the favor. That was sweet.

    The fact Maria knows H2O soothes me. Whenever I reference it to anyone they never know it 😩 the spin-off show Mako Mermaids was a lot more like this movie and Splash. Mermaids get chucked out of their pod and have to learn to live on land and not expose themselves. But it’s still around Mako Island.

    Aquamarine was a really great movie and it was fun to be a child at the time. Fun fact: the movie was filmed in Australia. My first introduction to Emma Roberts until Nancy Drew. JoJo was one of the icon in the 2000's. Sara Paxton is a great actress and realized that it was her in that 4th Halloweentown movie when was was an unfortunate replacement to the original actress of her character Kimberly J Brown. Lastly, ever since I was 18 I do the hand movements Raymond does after when he likes a girl.

    Now somewhat off topic, but I know I'm in the right place. I know Sam's reactions with either Stef or Maria are known to be more analytical with how the relationships in the movie are handled and such. And that's great! But there are rom coms out there still that lean into that aspect. So, I'm asking myself, how have we not gotten a proper reaction for a movie like "He's just not that into you (2009)" or "Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)". Those 2 movies are made to be analysed first and laughed at second. It's all about the relationship and that's what YOU are exceeding at among other channels!

    • @samandmariachannel
      @samandmariachannel  2 місяці тому +6

      It’s funny, but I never really thought about it like that. Like, I wasn’t really trying to be the analysis guy. But, you make a compelling point and it’s a nice way to put it, so thank you.
      He’s just not that into you I kinda forgot about and crazy stupid love we just sort of put off cause we weren’t sure about doing a movie where a middle aged divorced man was the main character.
      That said, they’re both good choices and we’ll consider both movies more strongly. Either for our channel or for a solo video I could do for the movie bud channel. Thanks again for your kind words 😊🙏 - Sam

    25:54 Also as a side note; time off between high school and university did not work for me in the least. I had two whole years off because I didn’t get in and now I struggle doing anything that isn’t exactly what I want to do. I am doing my masters rn so I do get stuff done but it is a struggle. Two years of doing basically nothing after twelve years of constant routine was not a good. Which I knew even in high school and that’s why I had no plans to take a year off but what can you do 🤷‍♀️. So if you have a shitty self regulation skills and you know it, do not take a year off.

I do believe that knowing myself i would have done nothing the entire year and felt bad about it but maybe it would have help me be more mature and balanced down the line. Maybe i would have picked up sewing and costuming a bit earlier, maybe giving a bigger thought to history, maybe i would have kept on drawing. Don't restrain yourself from taking a sabbatical if you feel like it could help you

    Maybe the confusion with Australia comes from the Australian mermaid show H2O just add water and it's sequel mako mermaids, that might be where it's coming from because this movie is also about a mermaid, it could also be because Emma Roberts was also in a show called lightning point which did take place in Australia with Australian actors and lightning point was very similar to things like mako mermaids and H2O, so that could be where it comes from. The mermaid in this movie is American though, she's been in a lot of other movies and TV shows, she's pretty popular. There aren't really that many mermaid movies or TV shows, aside from H2O and make a mermaids this is the only other mermaidmovie I've seen and I think because of H2O like anytime there is a mermaid you think Australia there have been like other mermaid type movies they always use like the great barrier reef and stuff for mermaid movies so I think that's probably also why people think Australia when you think mermaid.

      For myself, I think I just remembered the premise wrong 😅 - Maria

    • @AshleysAdvice
      @AshleysAdvice 2 місяці тому +2

      @@samandmariachannel Yeah that also happens sometimes, you don't quite understand what the shows about or the movies about, because sometimes the description can be misleading or you can hear things about it that can get muddled overtime, there have been a lot of mermaid like movies that have existed overtime, like splash or that DCOM about a boy who becomes a sea monster or something on his 13th birthday, those are the only two other mermaid movies I can think of that I've seen, but there are a tonne of movies when you really think about it their movies that like contain mermaids and stuff but yeah I think mako mermaids and H2O are probably the most popular for having that mermaid premise that you think about especially the premise where they have legs and tails on water, because Mako mermaids was the opposite of H2O where they were mermaids who used powers to turn into humans so the opposite of H2O, it was a sequel but should've been a prequel because it doesn't really make sense as a sequel, if you've seen it you'll know what I mean, but they do make references to people from H2O in it and the moon was destroyed at the end of H2O but it's fixed in Mako mermaid so that doesn't really make sense, yeah there's just a couple of plot holes for it being a sequel series where it would make more sense if it was a pre-but they didn't do that so yeah it really is more of a standalone show compared to H2O just happens to be the same moon pool and like it's supposed to be the same universe and everything but it sort of functions or feels more like a standalone show. Just because it has so many plot holes and things withH2O. I don't know if you've ever seen it but if you love H2O I would recommend checking it out, it had four seasons I think instead of three I think it got an extra season, I'm not sure but I think it did, also the other show I mentioned lightning point, that was a show about aliens that actually had a very interesting premise and was a really interesting show, that's another cool show that you should check out a lot of people forget about it that was like one of the first things that I personally sore in Emma Robertson butI think she did that before some of her other movies because she's got the same coloured hair as she does in this film and she plays very similar kind of character.

    I get that it’s supposed to be a sweet moment when Hailey wants to give up the dream of not moving but constantly moving your kid all over the world for work is just not ok. The kid has to start over again & again with school & friends while you’re trying to save the planet. Like pick a new career or don’t have kids. Kids should be in stable household not constantly moving around the world. It’s not just new house same city or a new city. They literally said they were in Boston then came to Florida now going to Australia that’s a lot

    I rewatched this maybe a year ago and didn’t realize how bad it was, I will definitely never watch again. A good movie you should react to is Ice Princess 🎉🎉🎉

    I have this on bluray. I have a large and schizophrenic movie/TV collection.
    Wikipedia: Water towers are able to supply water even during power outages, because they rely on hydrostatic pressure produced by elevation of water (due to gravity) to push the water into domestic and industrial water distribution systems; however, they cannot supply the water for a long time without power, because a pump is typically required to refill the tower. A water tower also serves as a reservoir to help with water needs during peak usage times. The water level in the tower typically falls during the peak usage hours of the day, and then a pump fills it back up during the night. This process also keeps the water from freezing in cold weather, since the tower is constantly being drained and refilled.
    I can't remember if I knew Dichen was Australian. I've seen her in a few things including Joss Whedon's Dollhouse. I can't remember what accent she used.
    Holiday in the Sun using Island in the Sun was a big deal for the twins as it was the first song by a major artist they could afford to license. For the life of me, I can't remember why I know this.
    The pilot from Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior didn't find a piece of jewelry in the pool but one of her scales.
