My boyfriend got ANOTHER video game console because he only had 20 video game consoles before. THE STEAM DECK is a portable handheld PC for playing The Witcher 3 while you take a crap. Here's my review.

I love that "you can play games on the go!" is a marketing concept that still works on us, despite the fact that nobody goes anywhere ever
Well for me, "gaming on the go", did mean trading Pokemon with random kids 5 to 7 years younger then myself in the DS era. But I have since learned that I can't do that anymore as I am now a creepy old man. 😣
So now, "Gaming on the go", means moving from a recliner (that is slightly too close to the TV to fully recline, but far enough away that i dont get eye strain.) all the way over 7 to 10 feet to my much more comfortable bed complete with a backrest and in the winter lots of blankets to stay warm. Still I have thought about getting one of those hospital TV cranes to be able to swivel my TV around to play Switch on the TV, while in bed... But with all the other bad and lazy things that come with that kind of life style choice, moving a few feet to my bed is the best option in the long run.
@@Tetravalence1 Out of curiosity, do you play during a long commute to work or something?
I've never felt so called out in my life.
I also do not intend to stop buying games on my Switch, because at least I can play it in bed when I want.
Until it runs out of power like barely two hours in.
Doesn't work in Latin America because no one would ever dare show their $399 product in public. You're basically ASKING to get stabbed and mugged.
Sorry for the upload so late in the day! Matt just couldn’t help himself and had to RUIN my edit with his admittedly superior editing skills. He was right to do so, thank you Matt!
Bruh. I’m from nj. This shit hit right after work. Don’t apologize lol. Just post
18mins left until work is done, gonna fast forward that with this vid. thanks!
Wait a minute. I thought Shelby made the video. Does that mean that Matt is the real Camp Rock fan?
Hey.. tell your dude.. "sweet Home Improvement shirt broheem" for me.
Shelby he should stop playing with his deck and buy you one so he can play with his girlfriend's deck
This is the realest review I've ever seen. All other reviews are now fake, including mine
We still love you Jake, just slightly less than we used to.
Heeeeeeey Jake! Love your content as well!
lol. Jake's review- This thing is cool. I can play games on it. Shelby's review- lOoK aT tHiS fUkKiN nErD!!
Wait that's illegal
Now that we know you watch GFR, we need a collab!
"Games he didn't want to play but did want to know that he could if he wanted to..."
As an owner of every major console and portable released since 2005 (1995 if you don't count the original Xbox and the Sega Saturn), I felt that.
Me too. But since you're compulsive, look up "MiSTer FPGA" and you could expand that collection to include cycle-accurate versions of every console up through 1995 as well. Imagine how many thousands more games you know you could play.... "if you wanted to". ;)
this is me installing ps2 games on my jailbroken ps4
me with books as well lmao
This is the condition of "Gamer Saturation". It doesn't matter if "New Games" are being made and released, they all fall into the same genres we've played for thousands of hours before, every game mechanic put into every "New Game" is the same mechanic we've played in old games. Sure, like Music there is "theoretically" an almost infinite number of combinations of notes that can be played, and likewise endless ideas that can be made into games, but we all know 99.999...% of those combinations are unappealing.
Me spending money on 3ds games that aren’t on the eshop before the the shop shuts down.
I love that she keeps explaining the references she knows we won’t get 😂
First moonstruck reference i have ever seen but im not explaining
Did you not get the camp rock references?
I got everyone of them the only thing she missed was a Dirty Dancing meme in there..... I am pretty sure if you don't get the movie references you are movie illiterate considering all of them were pretty high up there on the films you should have watched list.
Also the use of the Mission Impossible Fallout score
there are so much 80s/90s pre-teen references haha
Shelby is taking over! Not only turning into a gamer, but ALSO making the videos? Matt better watch out
Getting the steam deck was all a decoy to get him stuck on the toilet!
Shebly*
too busy fiddling with his deck
Shelby: Look at me, I am the boyfriend now
Soon enough Shelby’s gonna be Shelby’s boyfriend
Thanks for the revi-
Oh - this is another video for STEAM Deck nvm 😅
🤣
man the stream deck is the best
Oops i meant the steam deck haha
I would find it amusing if you guys made a program for the steam store that allowed the steam deck to function like the stream deck in the steam dock. The steam stream deck dock.
Sounds legit. My first 2 weeks with the Steamdeck was installing emulators and the perfect collection of roms (for me). Then played about nothing and moved on to old games that you can't get on Steam anymore and then mod them (like Test Drive unlimited 1 and 2) and Gog games. Played that for a few minutes and then i finaly tried some indie games i never want to play on the big screen. Loving it :)
300$ for indie games. you earned my respect
this is an extremely accurate representation of the exact reason i dont have a steamdeck. because i would probably go through these exact phases and then let it collect dust.
My computer is running a similar operating system. Actually, I run the operating system SteamOS was based off of.
I work for a subsidiary studio of a big game publisher and got a Steam code that gives me free access to the publisher’s entire back catalogue plus all future releases. Let me tell you, I haven’t played a single one of those mfs.
Yeah, sucks to be so jaded but that's why I don't buy one as well. If I can't bring myself to game on my phone then I won't bring myself to game on steam deck.
Same reasons I've got a Switch and never undocked it. I just like playin ma games on the tv. Maybe one day I'll go on a long flight tho and actually have a good reason to unsheath it.
I was honestly just like "I already play games when I'm at home. Do I REALLY need to play them when I'm on the move?" And decided not to get one lol
Outstanding job, Shelby! The writing and memes were S-tier as usual. You and Matt are both such talented creatives!

first and last vid ill see by them. this shit was lame af.
A friend of mine recommended your channel. I’ve been binging all video’s since. Just love the vibe, quality writing (and the jokes) acting and editing you two deliver. Amaaazing!
"Looked at his 370 steam games and said"
"I don't wanna play any of these.."
Too relatable 😂😂👍
As someone with 1653 games on Steam...yeah...
Me lmao
As a long time gaming umpc aficionado I can confirm that the main use is installing games and then never playing them. Just knowing you can theoretically play them on the go is the joy.
Until vampire survivor. That shit is tight on the Deck.
Sounds...not really worth it. 😅
I've been doing the same thing in Skyrim for 10 years. Install, mod. "uh neat." and don't touch it until I reinstall it.
This also applies to owning a tower gaming PC. You start by building a pc, or buy a prebuilt, install and update software, figure out what to install in your game library, then you spend your time streaming, watching youtube, and browsing reddit instead.
Collecting games and never playing them is the game
Yeah. When I finally bought the Steam Deck and witness ALL that FRICKING mountain of games in my hands (drooling), I said: "-I didn't want to play any of these"
Why tho
@@Mrhappyface52there really was a mountain of games, indeed... but I didn't see any mario there... hope I answered your question
@@cgqn4398 But what about... Emulation?
@@cgqn4398 That's a very valid point. Look to any GBA, DS and many Switch games where the intention for portable play informs the gameplay and design of each title.
AAA PC titles aren't developed with that in mind.
@@Bane_Amesta EMU WHAT?!?!?!
Imagine Gabe delivering personally the first Steam deck order just to know the house ordered Three units....
Can i just say that I have been appreciating this channel waaaaay more ever since my parents got back into Skyrim. They have been playing it almost non stop in the living room and if I hear "hey maybe there is somethin behind the waterfall" I will go insane
I lowkey love Shelbys dorky memes as much as much as Matt’s popular ones.
I ascended when I saw the Moonstruck meme
that camp rock clip with them all chanting "Steam Deck" made me actually lol
I'm calling it the SteamBoy from now on.
Im calling it the Steampeoplewhodontgiveaf@*k
The correct pronunciation is Gabe Gear.
Katsuhiro Otomo liked that.
Some call it GABEBOY
Waiting for steamboy advance
best review of the stream deck ive ever seen congrats on acquiring one and all those definitely legally owned roms are quite the nostalgia
Y'all are freakin' hilarious! I sent these last few videos over to my wife because they are definitely mirroring our life in a nutshell. You just record and up the funny quite a bit ;) Thank you for the great content as always!
Watch out! If he plays with his Deck for too long, it may start Streaming!
Booo +1
HAH HA ha ha ha......... Funnies -666
That's gross.
Admittedly clever.
But gross.
Bruhh…..
Me and my wife just watching this after 12 hours straight of Divinity 2. A break to say how awesome you guys are so we can do another 12 hours of Divinity 2.
What a game
I envy you so much, my girlfriend doesn't like it 😫
Definitely try Wasteland 3 coop after if you can. You can't do split-screen but you can play it on two PCs or Console. Similar vein and really fun.
I gotta try on computer or steam deck. On console it's awful
@@DaimyoSexy The problem with wasteland 3 is that its combat is not as good. Divinity combat is much more awesome as you get to interact with the environment so much.
This is my first time finding your channel (my boyfriend sent me) and I am in love with it. I can't wait to binge all the videos. You two are so great
Im kind of surprised this was his reaction. So far I've done tons of couch play away from my PC, but with the games I'd have been stuck at my desk to play. You guys work a bunch, so separation from work and play spaces is important. That's why I've been loving mine. Anything to get me out of my office that is my streaming room, my video editing space, and my normal 'fun' space has done wonders for my mental health towards spending another 12 hours in that room.
One of the reasons they call it the Steam Deck is because the code name for SteamOS 3 (which it runs) is Holo. Holodeck. Valve's upcoming all in one VR headset runs SteamOS 3. Obviously that's a much smaller reason than like, Games on Deck, but its cool.
I thought this was going to be a "half-life 3 confirmed" meme but I realized that maybe I'm getting old
@@carlosrueda9249 lol, I'm there with ya.
@@Aremisalive fyi, the new VR system they are working on is code named "Deckard", due to the steamdeck guts being used, and likeness to the bladerunner deckard who hunts down rogue AI like the deckard will hunt down facebook data theft devices.
They called it a steam deck as a reference to cyberdecks in cyberpunk
@@evolicious codename "Deckard" referring to Dechart, the actor who plays Connor the android sent by Cyberlife to hunt rogue AI
I was expecting a console review and got a masterclass in video-editing and movies references.
Glad to know that Matt did the same thing i did for about a month with the stream deck.
ps: Loved the video, Shelby. Camp Rock memes were needed
Deck owner here, yep that checks out. It's great for holidays, long trips as a passenger, visiting folks, lounging in different areas of the house, and in general good if you're not at your desk.
It's a little too big for public transport, but I've used it with my 4G hotspot on my phone to play FF XIV on my lunch breaks at work (it works amazingly well).
Congratulations to Shelby on editing your first video! Great job 👍
excuse me I think you mean Shebly. Says so at 0:10 :p
This is so well done I'm genuinely questioning if she actually edited it, not because i doubt her abilities, but because it replicates Matt's style so goddamn perfectly
Fantastic insight into what bounces around in Shelby’s head when she’s not complaining about living with a gamer
I love that at some point this was just a meme way to get game reviews, and now it's a full on mini-movie experience that I get invested in more than the product itself :D
The first few days have been indeed all about installing and setting things up. But since then I actually really use this device for gaming and even as a second desktop pc. Especially on travelling its excellent 👌
When y'all switch whose piloting the episode it's always an entertaining treat :D thanks for all your hard work, from a fellow editor!
That limp bizkit cut away was one of the greatest internet moments for me. Your editing talents are AMAZING. Matt was it you, who was responsible for this god tier editing joke? Or shelby?
I think Shelby says at the end of the video that Matt came in and fixed the editing for her, although I'm sure he left as much of her work as he felt he could. Probably.
Indeed one of the greatest cuts.
Lost it at that cut
Hahaha that Moonstruck reference was so unexpected, but also perfectly timed. Kudos Shelby!
lmao I love this review. My boyfriend and I actually both have Steam Decks but he got his in Q1. I was in Q2 and VERY jealous. We both use ours a lot though! I can totally see how some people might not get use out of it though. But for us we use it daily and its totally changed how we play video games.
Do you both use emulation? If so is it easy to get into?
@@ErtleTheTurtle It’s not easy but everyone will be able to do it.
It's more likely that the boyfriend will introduce something like the Steam Deck to his girlfriend. So this video title is not accurate. Besides that, I don't understand why boyfriend/girlfriend has anything to do with being capable of deciding whether to purchase something like the Steam Deck...
@@xPhantomxify It’s the shtick of their channel. Wake up.
@@ErtleTheTurtle it’s easy, if you have a library of roms. Emudeck makes things easier
Wait, this is Girlfriend Reviews episode 98. Which means we’re 2 videos away from the 100th episode spectacular. And I already have a feeling which games they’ll cover. (Hint: rhymes with Brass Defect)
The moment you said Divinity I knew your boyfriend is long gone. But if you are jealous, you could be playing as Loshe is you buy another steam deck, since it *is* co-op
this is the correct course of action.
Shed have to wait another year to get it.
Hoo boy. I can relate to the Divinity OS2 addiction....
A man of culture, I see! I discovered DOS2 over the pandemic while me and my housemates were looking for same-screen games to play together. Such a good game.
I got mine back in April and absolutely love it. I enjoy it a lot more than both my gaming laptop and my switch. The later of which I won't touch again until the next major installment of zelda or metroid.
Which version of the Steam Deck do you have and what's the difference between it and the Switch (for you)?
I do own a Switch (which i like a lot) but also thought about buying a Steam Deck at some point, but so far i don't see any reason why it would be "better" than my Switch (at least for how i like to use it).
@@D2daICE For me it’s the library, and the performance of games that’re also on Switch
with yuzu you should be able to play them on the Steam Deck too
@@CaptainEffort
In terms of "library" my Switch is not far behind compared to the amount of games i own on Steam. Both platforms have great games and i simply don't have the time to play them all.
What i really love about my Switch is that i'm able to play fully detached from every other device i own in various ways. My preferred way of playing with my Switch is in a tablet holder with detached Joy Con (which is essentially the most comfortable way to play i have experienced in over 25 years of gaming).
Funny enough i don't use my Switch as a "classic" handheld at all and play docked very rarely.
Yes, the Switch is now over five years old and the Steam Deck is a much more recent product (in terms of tech) but i think the performance is fine more often than not and even games like Doom Eternal are fun to play on Switch.
Can u play monster hunter rise sunbreak on steam deck
I’m very happy that Shelby wrote and did everything for this video, otherwise we wouldn’t have gotten the amazing Limp Bizkit reference in the year 2022. God Bless you and Fred Durst
The Moonstruck reference took me right out 😂 Amazing work on this video!
Bought one kinda expecting your usecase (can I? yes would I? no...). But that device grew on me marvelously for one thing. I have little time to play and almost no time to like "sit for 4 hours and immerse myself in the game". This device has instant sleep/wakeup mode. Now it's possible to play big titles 10 minutes at a time from anywhere and when I actually get to my normal PC, I get to resume it.
Imagine being stuck on a boss in hollow knight and trying it again, and again... every time for just 2-3 tries in between other activities.
So yeah, for me, it created a bunch of time that I wouldn't be gaming before and I'm now, whilst still enjoying high quality games (currently playing dirt 2, one stage at a time).
...Ok that's me with my craft supplies while my husband does his gaming! The point is I feel slightly attacked and I'm going to cross stitch passively about it!!!
You go girl!
Me with yarn.
"Look, I could I can knit something out of slightly different color of green."
"Cool! Are you going to?"
"...no."
Sorry Matt, but this was the funniest episode of GFR I've ever seen. I am gonna have to watch it again later it was so great. Those impressions were spot on too! i was like wait that's not what they said in the movie! Also Divinity original sin 2 is the best PC RPG ever (well pending baldur's gate 3 full release)! Would love to see a complete gf review on it!

The reference to the Aziz / Cold Stone bit was an absolutely INSPIRED take on the pricing.
I unintentionally stumbled at this video and its freaking amazing i will do anything to watch more . Keep it up
Okay, hearing that Divinity is what got you hooked on the deck made me unreasonably happy. ❤
Dang it, I was hoping this video would be the one I could show my wife to get her off the fence about getting one lol. Great video!

Man, that was uncannily close to my first days when I got my Steam Deck.
Awesome editing, great video 👍
I felt so attacked when she caught ol' dude playing his deck at his desk chair inches from his gaming PC. That's mostly how I use it too. I'm still getting all the third party launchers and tools installed though, in my defense. Want to try to install a few mods for some games. Already got Reshade working via Steam Tinker Launch, which is the primary reason I wanted a deck over switch. Playing a TON of Borderlands 3, Forza Horizon 5, and Ryse Son of Rome in it so far. This thing is a BEAST!
This video perfectly illustrates why I also don't own a steam deck, it sounds great to own but the novelty would wear off pretty quickly and I wouldn't use it at all
same here, am not hardcore enough to play games on the go
Fun fact about emulation, it's still illegal to backup your games. But the rules around emulation is so confusing that you might as well pirate all of them
Nice job Shelby! And the mobile play thing is so accurate 😆
I chuckled so much! I even watched to the end of the ad haha!

This was an incredible video and I loved all of it; however, simply marking Joe Jonas' character in Camp Rock as "Joe Jonas" was the part that made me laugh by far the hardest for some reason.
Agreed
Top notch quality as always.
If I was traveling for work across the the world on a monthly basis I would consider it heavily. Outside of that, and considering that I don’t travel that often, this seems like the most likely and real review of a device I don’t even own yet.
