This point alone was a huge selling point and argument for me to buy one. I just ordered mine last night and I sit in my chair at my desk from the second i wake up to the second I go to sleep and this lets me disconnect, so to speak.
Same for me, I ordered the Steam deck OLED. Its so relaxing to come home and dont need to sit anymore, it feels like continuing to work lol. I had the Lenovo Legion Go a while back, but it was too big for my small hands.
Same. And also, the default steam layout (without big picture mode) feels a bit underwhelming but overwhelming at the same time, and takes away from the clean experience. I also don't enjoy the mouse and keyboard since I grew up with controller gaming
@@barijadeMy reason to buy one is the same as yours, really excited to get it ! It will arrive in about 2 days. Do you actually work better now that you have the steam deck ?
I just wanted to inform people of what happens if you drop your Steam Deck. Because I did this Christmas from a pretty high height (1.6m) onto a stone floor... Once I realized it, everything kind of happened in slow motion. but I was surprised of how the steam deck turned around and fell flat on its legs... kind of like a cat... It's almost like the weight distribution of the device forces it into that direction. Nothing happened to it *phew*. when I picked it up it was like nothing happened. it feelt like an absolute tank when it hit the floor xD
I took the case off of my OLED SD for a quick wipe down and I dropped it onto a wooden floor. I never dropped the LCD SD so I thought it was done forever but no scratches dents or anything. I won’t be testing anymore drops… hopefully… but it faired well lol.
A little tip: The 40frames thing is *outdated* as this was BEFORE the 90Hz screen. You can even see it in your own video! The screen gets dumped down to 80Hz if you do 40FPS. The actual level you want is 45FPS because THIS keeps the 90Hz running instead of reducing it to a lower level.
That makes sense, 80hz does have other frame times than 90hz. Every half or third of the maximum hertz will work, but exceptions need to be adjusted by under clocking. (Example: 90hz can work with 90, 45 and 30)
@@-pressxtostart- he's just saying that you want to have the frame rate of the game (everytime the chip draws somethinf new for the screen to show) be a multiple of the refresh rate of the screen (how often the screen changes what it is showing.) The refresh rate of the old steam deck was 80 frames a second. So if you capped the frames your game was rendering at 40 the screen would have a new frame to render every other refresh. But now that the screen refreshes 90 times a second you need to set the frame rate to 45.
@@-pressxtostart- guy above me is not giving accurate information so I will provide an explanation: the refresh rate of the steam deck lcd is 60hz. oled is 90hz, which is a great bit better than the lcd variant because 1. it's smoother, 50% on paper but about 200% to the human eye imo 2. better latency as more frames are being displayed on the screen, so your inputs are being displayed quicker than 60hz would. However, most (demanding) games are not going to reach 90hz. This means that locking games to 45fps lets the display still refresh at 90hz per second but change the frame exactly every TWO refreshes WITHOUT having to refresh a new frame by tearing the image. Simply put, 90 is cleanly divisible by 45 and 30 (tho awful as a framerate, is a factor of 90) are integers, but 90/40 is not an integer, so it would refresh during a frame render and lead to incomplete image (aka what you would see is half an old frame and half a new frame, creating a noticeable rift oir 'tear' in the image). Why can the steam deck lcd not do this, you ask? It can, but it can only do 30fps or 20fps which looks significantly worse than 45fps. Also, 60/45=4/3 so that doesn't work. It'll work every 3 frames but even so it's just messier than simply dividing by 2. tl;dr 30 and 45 are factors of 90 so integer go brrr, 40 bad bcuz hiss refresh during frame cycle
I recommend 45FPS instead of 40, because 90hz refreshes twice per frame and makes it look smoother without any hiccups while still being optimal for battery life and even most games' performances.

It hasn't changed my life the way I hoped it would :-( still in too much pain to play; even bought a reclining hospital bed type deal and still no dice :-( one thing id recommend: don't skimp on mouse and keyboard if yer hooking it up to external monitor, get a cheap dock and use a real mouse and keyboard. FYI for the charger. I speak from experience when I say that you shouldn't use anything except for an OEM charger. I received mine as a present from a country with another country's power plug. Because of that I made plenty of research on the charger. Firstly, the steam deck is very particular about the exact charger you use, even if it's a charger that supports 45 or even more watts, it may not pull its full 45 watts and thus may loose charge while actively in use. Secondly, neither the steam deck, nor its charger abide by USB standards. That's why I would never use them independently from each other. There have been cases of overheating from what I read. Thirdly, you can ask Steam support for another OEM charger and they will send you one free of charge. They are real bros about it. Don't be like me and wait 9 months to ask. It was kinda miserable having the deck charge all night and still be only at half charge. If you are wondering, yes I did try a bunch of different chargers but eventually had to throw in the towel.
Really? My Steam Deck doesn't seem to be picky with chargers. I usually use the official one, but I've occasionally used a Switch charger on it, or my Inland 60w charger. Now I'm just using the absence of evidence, so there could be issues I'm just not experiencing. But hey, I have had this thing for a few years now.
@@roflBeck The issue with deck not charging with most other chargers is my personal experience, while the thing about the steam deck not abiding by USB standards is info provided by a third party. I honestly use my deck in desktop mode more than gaming mode, sure it's awesome for gaming but it's also a very versatile and rugged "tablet" pc that I watch UA-cam, anime, read mangas, watch movies with VLC media player from the files ripped off my DVDs, plus all the really good desktop applications that regular tablets tend not to have or when they do it's behind a paywall
I was surprised how big of a deal it was moving to a 90hz screen for desktop remote play. Oled plus 90fps makes in-home streaming AAA games FAR more appealing than it was before.

@@MichaelEMaul I was wondering that too. I’ve heard most screen protectors kind of undo the anti-glare etching on the glass but at the same time I don’t want to leave my screen unprotected.

3:43 Now that you say NIS shouldn't be confused with DLSS it does also make sense to mention that the FSR used in the scaling filter is FSR 1 which isn't the same as FSR 2. FSR 2 is better but requires the game implements it where FSR 1 works on any game thereby it can be used in this scaling filter options, so if the game has FSR 2 (or above) implemented it might be better to use that than the scaling filter.
I dropped my deck twice on a ceramic/tile floor. It still has no screen protector, nor any other protection. What I really do want is a thing like a neck strap for public transport. If I now get out of the bus, I collect the deck box from my backpack, open it, put the deck in, close it, and put it back in the backpack. Since that costs time, I usually make sure my deck is transport ready long before the bus arrives. Then I get out, sit in the train, and then get my backpack... etc... If I just could shorten my neckstrap, flip it 90 degrees, close my jacket, walk to the train, open my jacket, and continue...
Thanks for this video brotha. I love videos like these. Just got my deck and I'm trying to figure out all the cool things to either buy or do to my steam deck id probably overlook myself without watching one of these videos
Random thing to note about the iVoler screen protectors in particular: The glass is nice and thick, but the alignment tool is actually a hinderance. Just toss the tool and free hand it, and it will be a lot better.
I just ordered my steam deck OLED, I'm in Australia so it was really hard to get the original deck but found a few trust worthy resellers selling the steam deck OLED here now. Will get it in a couple days I can't wait for it. I've been using steam since 2007 and have an extensive library (also with a lot of unplayed titles unfortunatly) so will be nice to be able to just relax anywhere and play them.
The last part is so true. I highly recommend it. I installed Dirt Rally 3 on my Steam Deck, and while it's basically an ancient game at this point, it looks phenomenal on the Steam Deck...cranked the graphics all the way up.
The fact you used rollercoaster tycoon as an example makes me very happy. That being said iam amazed there are nearly zero videos on rct and how it works on steam deck. Mines coming in Monday and all I have to go off of right now is “playable” lol
Some added advice for using a 3rd party charger... If you are going to be using your deck whilst having it plugged in to the charger do NOT use a 45watt charger. By playing and charging with 45watts the deck will get hot and you will be having the fan on max most of the time as the battery will be getting hot adding extra heat. Instead use a 30watt charger. I use a 30watt Google pixel charger. This means it will only trickle charge to the battery whilst you play and keeps temps about the same as if you are just playing off of the battery avoiding thermal throtlling and your fan running full blast. Of course, if you are just charging when not playing 45watts is fine. But if you are at home playing and plugged in then a 30watt charger is by far the best option.
@@shto4782 That's not actually possible. The Steam deck uses up to 27watts. So A 30 watt charger is only providing a few Watts of extra power above what it needs. Meaning negligable additional heat. Your 65 watt charger will be using up to the maximum the steam deck can pull which is 45watts. You know what more watts mean? More heat. I know just from using the included steam 45watt charger my deck gets hotter than my 30watt charger. It's just basic science. More power = more heat. Try a smaller charger you will see it's less heat. You saying it's the same is probably comparing your 65watt charger with the stock steam 45watt charger. Those would he the same because both would pull the decks max 45watts.
@@Tass... what's the point? It's same temperature like i said. I don't feel like its getting more noisy or hot at the back. With 15w tdp i get around 70c at max load, with charger it's maybe a bit more i will test it one more time
Also The Steam Deck is no stranger to Mods either, especially for Tale Of Two Wastelands mod which is a Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas into one big setting, you may have to look at a tutorial or a guide to fully set that up for you for example Hi Tech Low Life youtube channel.

DO NOT PUT a screen protector on the 1Tb OLED. Is super scratch resistant because of the matte screen. No matter the protector it will ruin the look of the display
I found that the issue with using an anti-glare protector on the etched-glass 1TB steam deck double the effect of blurriness due to now an additional layer of etchings. I had to return my 1tb in exchange for 512.
Good video overall. One thing that bothers me is you kind of (no pun intended) glossed over the part about putting an etched glass screen protector over an already etched glass. Could you comment on this? A quick reddit search reveals heaps of OLED 1TB users completely torn about putting any kind of protector and I am in the same boat.
I think one thing that you briefly touched on that I have found many ppl have a question about and it’s nothing major but the anti glare screen on the 1 tb. That’s exactly what I just bought and the big question is what kind of screen protector should you apply to the 1tb anti glare screen? I’ve heard just about everything and still am unsure what screen protector to put on the anti glare screen. Do I use anti glare screen protector? Or ‘hd quality’ (jsaux)

I absolutely cannot wait which is why I'm spending time right now watching these videos . Good luck to you!
#DesktopMode, i recommend using Barrier, a fork of Synergy, KVM Software, that even operate with SteamDeck Wifi, altough cabled through the Dock is more stable, i tend to use my left monitor, that also can function within my 3 monitor displays setup
I'm guessing that you use Linux as your OS because I completely forgot that because I'm on Linux, that the Steam Deck and my desktop speak the same formats, transferring ROMs is easy, I don't know if Windows can understand ext4.
Hey! Any tips on coms? Like party chat while me and gf play with eachother.. I have a steam deck coming and I know it has external microphone but im a headset guy... so i need a headset that has a microphone that steam will recognize. (Ive read it wont recognize my galaxy buds microphone.
Nope! The SD is a PC on its own with Linux installed. Anyway I’m not sure about the future of emulation. They shut down Yuzu and now Ryujinx will probably follow. Ordered my SD yesterday. Maybe I’m gonna dabble in emulation in the future.
Great video! I have purchased one last month, and I'm in love with the Deck! By the way, anyone else's having trouble with In home streaming with Hardware acceleration enabled? The image appears with crushed blacks or If done In desktop mode, with a red tint. Turning It off seems to solve the issues, but a the cost of much greater latency, due to the fact of not using Hevc. I have ended up using moonlight, but Its not perfect either Thanks!
Love how you call-out Bungie studio! I am boycotting this studio until they change their stance on Linux (anyways their games are bad! 😄) Also boycotting EA until they remove the mandatory disgusting-bugged-spyware launcher when the game was purchased through Steam... Maybe I won't change a thing by myself, but at least I will stop getting frustrated when I am trying to play a game and EA launcher screws everything and forces me to reinstall the whole game! I don't have much time to play, so when I do, I just want to take my Deck, and play! Happy New Year to you and Emily!
Hey! I wanted to say, upgrading the internal SSD isn't that hard really. I don't have much experience, but I researched it, read a few guides, watched a few clips, took it slow and was able to do it without dying 😊 it was relatively easy
I just ordered the 1TB OLED and I’m super excited as so far I have only been playing on Xbox😅 What type of screen protection should I consider with my version then? Or is safe enough as I will be only playing at home anyway ?
@@1989Maike to me I mainly want to play games like COD, Spider-Man, Titanfall 2, God of War and such and I dont play any Indy games or typical „PC“ type games So for me it was super handy that the ROG Ally comes with build in windows as well as a connection to my Xbox via Gamepass With the Steam deck I would have had to dual boot windows and I’m a noob when it comes to all of that „geek“ stuff I used to only play on Xbox before and for someone like me the ROG Ally definitely was the more straight forward choice 👌🏻
My steam deck oled limited came with a couple of dead pixels and I RMA it, it came back with even more dead pixels then before they took it in the second RMA and said they will fix and replace the screen
we're getting more details about a Steam Deck 2 in 2025. I wonder if I should it's worth getting a Steam Desk in 2024 if an updated sequel is coming next year.
Backlog literally needs an excel, sorting out games by level of interest, estimated hours of gameplay, check box for finished, highlights, checkbox for unfinished and reasons why. This way you can really choose the thing you want to play given interest and time available. You quickly realize there is no time for playing all games, and that the backlog grows pushing low interest game to neverland.

Hey dude! I just got my Steam Deck and I love it! I used your links to get the Anti-Glare Protector, Anker Charger and the Anker 10' cable!
Dude thanks for posting, knew all this - knew I was gonna know all this - watched it anyway. Good content bro!
Who was your seller you trust for Aussie?
I would also like to add that magnetic USB-C adapters are a must for dock users.
Love the idea of kids getting a steamdeck for Christmas lucky little critters
Im looking at a steam deck or a Ally X and I think this video convinced me to go Steam Deck
Great video bud! I'd already convinced myself I wanted one, but thank you for the additional confirmation bias!
Nah, i have anker 65w charger and there is no extra heat like at all
@@shto4782 That's not actually possible.
@@Tass... maybe the lcd deck, i have oled there is no difference whatsoever
@@shto4782 I have the OLED version also. Have you actually tried a 30watt charger on it?
@@Tass... what's the point? It's same temperature like i said. I don't feel like its getting more noisy or hot at the back. With 15w tdp i get around 70c at max load, with charger it's maybe a bit more i will test it one more time
Also The Steam Deck is no stranger to Mods either, especially for Tale Of Two Wastelands mod which is a Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas into one big setting, you may have to look at a tutorial or a guide to fully set that up for you for example Hi Tech Low Life youtube channel.
ARE YOU SERIOUS! I just seen i have FO3 on epic and just ordered a steam deck cant wait now!
Love the video - I'm inspired to up my emulation set up I didn't know you could launch games from Game mode! NES roms been on a shelf just waiting for this!
Very handy video! Liked and suscribed, just bought my lcd version on sale!! Can't wait for it to come, so i kill the time seeing all this tips videos 😅
This video went straight up to my favorites.
I am so excited. I was browsing all the consoles and i think Steam Deck is what i have been looking for.
I dont want to get up from the couch and i dont want to rebuy all my games. Plus i get a mini PC and can do PC stuff with it. :D
For the steam deck 1tb oled the case has a removable liner that is easer to travel with
Hey instead of log out at 5:45 why don't you just use the Return to Gaming Mode Icon in the top let instead? other than that great video.
Having to figure out how to get to the desktop every time with all those applications open can be annoying so I recommend putting it on the taskbar.
I just got my new OLED steam deck and this video has helped me so much! The other UA-camrs are like get emu deck, get decky loader etc but don't even tell you how lmao
Anyway thanks for the video dude, truly helpful!
Great video ! I’m looking after buying or a birthday present to suggest to my wife, and tou vidéo will be very helpful the day I Will put my hands on it !
Such a delightful and insightful presentation, I couldn't resist. Earned a like and a new subscriber. Great information. Thank you!
This is presented very well, subscribed.
CANT WAIT TO GET MINE ..WHAT ARE THE GOOD DOCK FOR MONITOR?
"Make sure you like that smash button". Great video and with a comment like that, how could one not.
"Make sure you like that smash button" was honestly comedy peak
DO NOT PUT a screen protector on the 1Tb OLED. Is super scratch resistant because of the matte screen. No matter the protector it will ruin the look of the display
I didn't notice a difference
Totally agree
Guys, he is trying to sell stuff.
Pokemon!!!!!!!!!!
Cant wait to play Red, trading card game and colosseum, probably stadium 2
@4:36 Just kinda casually drops in a Homestar Runner reference.
11:11"Like that Smash Button"? 🤔
Won't a anti glare screen protector make the anti glarescreen darker or more muted?
I found that the issue with using an anti-glare protector on the etched-glass 1TB steam deck double the effect of blurriness due to now an additional layer of etchings. I had to return my 1tb in exchange for 512.
Great great video man, thanks for that! Gonna receive my deck in just a few days and im really hyped now 😊
Awesome pace and content and vibe 🎉 Well done sir
cool informative video! Gonna get decky rn. also it bled my eyes seeing you didnt try Disco Elysium.
Hey man great video! I have the OG LCD model and got the black screen of death. Any tips?
You missed installing Cryo Utilities. They are really, really worthwhile for many games.
I was just about to say that.
that and expanding the VRAM to 4GB in the BIOS. Cryo doesn't do it for you.
11:12 Wait, did you say 'like that smash button'? 😄😄
Can't wait to play Spelunky and Spelunky 2 on the plane ❤
Good video overall. One thing that bothers me is you kind of (no pun intended) glossed over the part about putting an etched glass screen protector over an already etched glass.
Could you comment on this? A quick reddit search reveals heaps of OLED 1TB users completely torn about putting any kind of protector and I am in the same boat.
mine arrives in the mail on saturday
I think one thing that you briefly touched on that I have found many ppl have a question about and it’s nothing major but the anti glare screen on the 1 tb. That’s exactly what I just bought and the big question is what kind of screen protector should you apply to the 1tb anti glare screen? I’ve heard just about everything and still am unsure what screen protector to put on the anti glare screen. Do I use anti glare screen protector? Or ‘hd quality’ (jsaux)
Thanks so much for the review mines comes in 2 days OLED😂
Cool this has me hyped from mine. Ordered it on the 22nd so im not expecting it to be here till 1st or 2nd week an jan. But this has been helpful. Specially the feature to find game unplayed that work on the deck is mainly why o got it
Really? I ordered my OLED on the 26th and it is out for delivery right now. It was shipped via UPS Ground from their warehouse in IL and I live in SW FL. Are you far from one of their warehouses? I absolutely cannot wait which is why I'm spending time right now watching these videos . Good luck to you!
5:45 is there a reason why you don't recommend the desktop icon instead?
"make sure you like that smash button"
Jsaux mod case has scuffed my deck in both bottom corners, just a heads up take it of at least once a week and clean it.
I can't find the smash button to like? Great video :)
Hi I got a bit confused, if I have the 1tb oled which screen protector should I get in order to not nullify the anti glare properties of the screen?
Watching tips for oled deck, on an oled deck
#DesktopMode, i recommend using Barrier, a fork of Synergy, KVM Software, that even operate with SteamDeck Wifi, altough cabled through the Dock is more stable, i tend to use my left monitor, that also can function within my 3 monitor displays setup
I was very distracted by the nemesis in the background. It's Nerf or Nothing!
Great vid, whats the music track at the beginning. Heard it a thousand times, but the game escapes me
I'm guessing that you use Linux as your OS because I completely forgot that because I'm on Linux, that the Steam Deck and my desktop speak the same formats, transferring ROMs is easy, I don't know if Windows can understand ext4.
You're right, ext4 doesn't show in Windows. I don't think any of the ext formats do.
Dislike that smash button? Done and done.
Hey! Any tips on coms? Like party chat while me and gf play with eachother.. I have a steam deck coming and I know it has external microphone but im a headset guy... so i need a headset that has a microphone that steam will recognize. (Ive read it wont recognize my galaxy buds microphone.
I am new to pc gaming and I currently don’t have a pc so do i need a pc to do emulation on the steam deck?
Nope! The SD is a PC on its own with Linux installed. Anyway I’m not sure about the future of emulation. They shut down Yuzu and now Ryujinx will probably follow. Ordered my SD yesterday. Maybe I’m gonna dabble in emulation in the future.
cant wait to get mine. 👌
I have ended up using moonlight, but Its not perfect either
Thanks!
Thank you for the video! It’s really helpful and I fully agree with you.
Love how you call-out Bungie studio! I am boycotting this studio until they change their stance on Linux (anyways their games are bad! 😄)
Also boycotting EA until they remove the mandatory disgusting-bugged-spyware launcher when the game was purchased through Steam...
Probably won't happen with Bungie cuz battle eye doesn't want to work on a Linux anti cheat iirc
I like that smusch buton:)
Hey! I wanted to say, upgrading the internal SSD isn't that hard really. I don't have much experience, but I researched it, read a few guides, watched a few clips, took it slow and was able to do it without dying 😊 it was relatively easy
I just ordered the 1TB OLED and I’m super excited as so far I have only been playing on Xbox😅
What type of screen protection should I consider with my version then?
Or is safe enough as I will be only playing at home anyway ?
And? How is it?? 😱
@1989Maike I returned it and went with the ROG Ally instead and I’m glad I cause I love it for what I want to do
@@ShotgunGuenni why you returned it? 😲. What’s on the ally better for you?
@@1989Maike to me I mainly want to play games like COD, Spider-Man, Titanfall 2, God of War and such and I dont play any Indy games or typical „PC“ type games
So for me it was super handy that the ROG Ally comes with build in windows as well as a connection to my Xbox via Gamepass
With the Steam deck I would have had to dual boot windows and I’m a noob when it comes to all of that „geek“ stuff
I used to only play on Xbox before and for someone like me the ROG Ally definitely was the more straight forward choice 👌🏻
Is the Ayaneo 2 or the Ayaneo 2S better? And which runs Palworld better? Send the link to channel pls.
Recommend a 65W battery bank. You can justify the cost because now you have a backup emergency power for your phone.
Yup. Nothing wrong with some extra watts if you're using power delivery.
We all bought a game that we never played. We just want it be there 😅
Great video! Don’t worry I “liked that smash button” lol cheers!
#1 should be check for dead pixels.
I have three steam decks and none of them have had any screen issues. Let alone dead pixels.
@@gardiner_bryant Consider yourself lucky, there are people that did rma and got another one with dead pixels in return.
@@iHazMuffinz Probably more "not unlucky" than lucky.
My steam deck oled limited came with a couple of dead pixels and I RMA it, it came back with even more dead pixels then before they took it in the second RMA and said they will fix and replace the screen
what about using an ssd usb stick?
WHAT ARE THE BEST TITLES GAMES?
CAN UPLAY NEW CALL OF DUTY 6?
FORTNITE?
GTA 5?
ETC?
WHERE DO U GET THE ROMS ? DO U NEED EMULATORS ?
we're getting more details about a Steam Deck 2 in 2025. I wonder if I should it's worth getting a Steam Desk in 2024 if an updated sequel is coming next year.
The first thing you MUST do is "trying a game"!
i just gave my sister my original Deck what video should i send her for a full run down
Proton qt is awesome thanks for the advice
Backlog literally needs an excel, sorting out games by level of interest, estimated hours of gameplay, check box for finished, highlights, checkbox for unfinished and reasons why.
This way you can really choose the thing you want to play given interest and time available.
You quickly realize there is no time for playing all games, and that the backlog grows pushing low interest game to neverland.
The first thing I started doing after getting my steam deck is destroying my backlogs.
@11:12 wait??? what did you say? "Like that smash button" or you meant "smash that like button"? Anyways, I did liked the video 🤣
