I never (so far) killed it. Luckily, it is 100% friendly towards me.
I'm wondering if perhaps the enzyme has some strong antibacterial properties that the bacterium isn't resistant to, but if the Emperor produced a weaker version of the enzyme (enzymes are proteins, they're easily destroyed by heat, so perhaps her sickness gives her a fever and thus breaks down the enzyme faster) then maybe the prolonged exposure to that weaker enzyme COULD lead to some resistance. And in fact, it probably did, because it only slowed down the effects. That means it killed SOME of the bacterium on infected individuals, but not all. That means those who survived multiplied and created new colonies on the host, those new colonies now being a little more resistant than before. Basically, the planet couldn't have survived without the babies producing the much stringer enzyme that totally wipes an individual clean. Without them, the bacterium probably would've been accidentally selectively bred for enzyme resistance
In my ACU, I have tons of Reginald's that breed. I accidentally brought one that was infected and all my Reginalds now have green blisters. That brings up another fact; if infected and normal animals breed, the child will be infected.

*UNKNOWN PLANET SOME WHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD*
It does sound kinda weird to put it that way in retrospect :)
Its fine I won't post another positive comment today
Great video
Keep up the great work man can’t wait for the next video
Thank you very much :)
This sounds like a drunk version of the Burger King foot lettuce dude
That's literally me :D how did you know?
Fun fact for those of you who weren't around during the development: Kharaa was initially called "Carar" in the early days of adding the precursor bases. It was changed to reference the other games by the Subnautica devs
Yep true :) good point!
Do you think you can do some subnautica sub zero lores soon? I know it's in early access, but there's a lot in the game already. Thanks!😀
I definitely plan to - I'm just waiting a bit because I don't want to make a ton of videos now, and have to re-do them later as new info is released :)
Now Earth is suffering an outbreak of the deadly Kharonaa virus
Yep :) too soon!
Im just here spending time waiting for subnautica 2
Aren't we all :)
In Natural Selection 1 and 2 (other games produced by unknown worlds) the bacterium has escaped (most likely after the events of Below Zero) and started to mutate to make animals hostile and more dangerous than usual by mutating them, in those games you are a space marine that is tasked, with a team (multiplayer) to eliminate these creatures.
I find it funny how two vastly different games share the same universe and story
It's definitely interesting and a neat idea from the developers to have them in the same world :) wonder if there are other parallels/connections to be drawn...
There's a Natural Selection poster in Subnautica, which made me think of this theory.
@@JKIUYHB2 it's already confirmed that they are in the same universe
Oh bacon when it’s fully released can you do lore on basically everything on it 😂 Ik it’s a bit much to ask but can you plzzzzzzzzzxxx
I definitely plan to do lore on Below Zero as soon as more of it's released :)
Oh thank god bc subnautica is running out of things to talk about besides the planet our protagonist was born on
Just starting to play Subnautica. When I learned about the Kharaa virus on some website I couldn't resist learning everything I could about it. For some reason I find this storyline very interesting and exciting...
I really like it as well :)
Y’all know he’s basically reading the wiki to you right? Like almost verbatim
Well I often follow the structure of the wiki because it has good continuity and makes sense explanation-wise :)
Clear information, non clickbait title, more entertaining way to learn more about this amazing game. Read whatever wiki you want dude
I honestly thought the Khaara bacterium causes hallucinations because Bart Torgal mentions it as a symptom, but... the infection does not cause hallucinations. The way I progressed in the game, that ended up being a very fun plotpoint.
Now just imagine the player is actually still in his lifepod just hallucinating :)
@@TheLastBacon they'd die of starvation and/or dehydration
I interpreted it as the Sea Emperor trying to contact him, but he thought they were hallucinations
Ghost leviathan rerly but spawn with kharar.
True - it surprised me how many creatures actually have a separate ''infected'' model in the game :)
I like how (if you spreedrun) one non essential systems maintenance chief can cure a disease in 1 week and it took an entire specie over 10 years(estimated time) TF
Yep :D Who would win - an entire race of super advanced extraterrestrial organisms / one fast janitor!
Ur so close to 1 Million! (Pls keep making subnatica lore they are my favourite)
100k but thank you! :D
@@TheLastBacon ... Yeah I forgot how to count lol 😅
Most people reading the title cards for these: Kharaa Bacterium Lore
Me, an idiot: Kha Bac Lor Raa Terium E
Big brain time :D
”An exploration on an other PlAnEt in the WoRlD" wait what?!... A planet in the world? How does that make sense lol
Well the world of Subnautica :) ....though universe would be a more fitting word - you're right!
The Last Bacon🥓 haha true!
1: a bacon menace
2: the attack of the bacon
3: the revenge of the bacon
4: a new bacon
5: the bacon strikes back
6: the return of the bacon
7: the bacon awakens
8: THE LAST BACON
9: the rise of the bacon
Now that's a franchise waiting to happen :D
My head canon after the first game they made a bottle enzhyme in a lab cured most planet except 4546b because it was to dangerous but the below zero crew was there to not only research the prcurses but also cure the kharaa but they are too late because the emperers already did it and got infected themselves but Robin got some enzhyme but there wasn't enough and they released it back in the galaxy
The only question that remains is whether enzyme 42 can cure all types and strands of kharaa from around the galaxy :)
0:37, my boy got it right this time
Yep :) had to make sure I don't mess up the number again.
He is the last bacon cause kharaa killed all the others
That is the true story indeed :D
Who do you think would find a cure:
1. Ancient alien race with teleportation and telepathy
2. A dude with cerebral implants that probably made him the smartest of the Degasi crew
3. A janitor that was nice to an octopus
Haha some weird intuition is guiding me to the janitor :D
@@TheLastBacon Wow, I must have wasted so much of your time. You don't have to reply to ALL of my crappy comments! Congrats to you though! I see you are very devoted to your fanbase and you totally deserved my subscription. Thank you and keep up the good work!
Hey what a great vid-*coughs up blood* wait just a min *uses enzyme 42* there you go.what a great video
Thank you very much :) cough, cough....do you have some left by any chance?
The Last Bacon I make enzyme 42
I love how the precursors were like "WE'RE UNDER QUARANTINE B***T" and shoots people
Warper’s: I will prevent deaths by killing things
Haha great plan :)
The Last Bacon: This video might contain spoilers.
Also The Last Bacon: One tutorial on how to cure the virus comin right up!
Haha ok it definitely contains spoilers :D
Beat the game 2-3 years ago idk why im watching this but u make it entertaining
Really glad you think so! :)
Billions of deaths from kharaa? Bird flu, you got competition!
brilliant video yet again bacon. much love.
Thank you very much :) much love right back at you!
Thank you for another amazing lore video I saw in one of the comments this video barley made it out because of bad WiFi thank you for trying any way :)
Thank you very much :) you guys make it worth trying despite the terrible wifi!
Great video, as always !
Thank you very much :) glad you enjoyed it!
Kharaa virus sounds a lot like the coronavirus
Luckily it's a bacterium :)
Covid-19 watching a Karah’s poster:”Tell me the way! And I will finish, what you have started!”
Haha Subnautica was trying to warn us all along :)
Right off the bat, swimming your marry way through the Kelp forrest.
Yep ;)
For some reason I love watching these even though I’m a year late-
I'm glad you did! :)
Finally another video BTW thanks for the reply Last Bacon on the Riley Robinson video
Haha no need to thank me :) thank YOU for watching these!
Anyways could you do some guides for subnautica below zero I need to get a kharraa virus sample and altera precursor notes
@@namelastname7401 Well I definitely plan to look into Below Zero soon :) just waiting for a bit more content to be released.
Ok thank you I need a lot of help BTW tank you so much for replying no other UA-camr does that I subscribed
Who else sees a pattern in incubation periods between the karrah and corona
True :) a bit scary...
The Khara bacteria was just God going ham on Plague Inc.
Haha kinda yeah :)
"Might have spoilers" this is the story
Fair enough :) "will have spoilers" would've been more fitting.
Straight away, having a lil stroll in the Q.E.P facility.
Just a wee little stroll :)
It's a good thing they didn't set it to where the bacterium would worsen without progression of the story until the player inevitably died, because it let players play at their own pace despite the high stakes of the storyline. Players wouldn't have to stress too much about a time limit and could actually enjoy the game and its' exploratory nature :)
That would definitely make the game harder :)
Doctors who got Kharaa: "this is fine"
Medical Officer Danby: "yo wtf is this how do I cure dis I'm dying help me I lied this exam pls for the love of god"
Haha sounds about right :)
me: oh no I’m infected, better build an observatory in the void
Sounds about right :)
Little did he know that kharaa would be real
Oof, they were trying to warn us :)
