+Miryam Hey Miryam, I've had this problem for a very long time, too! The only solution is to find a good, waterproof and smudgeproof liner. For me, the MAC technakohl liner works great!

I think you’re gorgeous and have a lot of great information, but it’s not easy to see what you are doing in this video because you had ALL of your other eye makeup applied. I feel like this is a technique best demonstrated on a naked eye.

First of all, thank you for your help. I'm going to try this. If you or anyone can read this long post and offer advice, I would be so appreciative! Okay...I have I think what you said are called "hooded" eyelids. Not sure. My eyelids (the bottom creased parts of upper lids) are very thin/small. And even worse, my right one is about half the size of my left so that ones almost nonexistent. Using liner on my upper lids is impossible. Doing the slimmest line above my lashes completely blacks out all or part of my lids. I'd give anything to wear liquid eyeliner and do those cool wings (if could manage to learn how to draw them lol). Also, I can NEVER put on mascara without getting it all over my lids. I literally have to do my mascara first, wait for them to dry completely, and then do my shadow. This ends up messing up my perfect lashes and getting smudges and flakes everywhere. And I've never been the best at makeup so to do my whole face takes me a minimum of 1 hour. If I could do my mascara like everyone else, I could cut that time in half. Cuz most of the time I'm literally just trying to correct my lashes and eyes over and over. It's exhausting. So, as you can see, I literally MUST use the tightline method to have any kind of definition to my pathetic thin lashes. Since I have to do my lashes first anyway, over the years I've learned to just shellack my mascara on thick as I can from the roots up so even when I clean the top of my lids with pointed q-tips and makeup remover, a nice thin line remains at the base of my lashes and fills in the gaps between each lash. I thought that's what tightline was actually (the base of the lashes). I didn't know it was the actual waterline part of the upper lid. I'm definitely going to try both of these techniques and I pray to the makeup gods that I can do it. Thank you so much for your help and if you have any tips on how to help me with my mascara, I would be eternally grateful!!! Thanks!

+niina Hi Niina, I'm glad you've found my video helpful! It's a little hard to give advice only by description.. I wish I could see your eye shape in person and show you what I would do.. :) But from what you are telling, I would suggest trying out applying the mascara from the upper side, with your eye closed or looking downward. That way you're not pushing the lashes up against your eyelid, but rather coat them from the inner side, down. I hope that makes sense.. kind of hard to explain. Also, try using a waterproof/smug proof mascara. And I would definitely suggests trying the tightlining techniques I am showing in this video. You can do it before the mascara. It will define your lashline. If you want a winged liner, you can just tightline and then draw a little wing, only going from the very outer corner of your eye. This won't "block" the space of your eyelid, but look like a winged liner :) Hope that helped somehow! Good luck!

MakeupAndArtFreak thanks! That's actually very good advice. I tried looking at the ground to do my mascara and it really helped! My lids didn't get anywhere near as messy as usual. I was even able to do my shadow first like normal! And the second tightline method with the brush was much easier for me to do and it looked soooo much better. I am so happy with my results and I know with more practice I will get better. Thanks a million!

I've got hard contacts and I'm afraid to do tightlining because if I don't have the right liner it might smear my contacts so I can't see through... Who has a tip which liner I can use? I'm addicted to wear my lenses because I've got a very massive defective vision 😟 But I hate the look of smokey eyes without tightlining... 😩😪
