As someone who had clogged meibomian glands so bad that some of my glands actually died off, I caution women about applying any kind of product to their "waterlines" (a beauty term and not an optician term). In my case, mine were so badly clogged, that I had to have a treatment to express them (to the tune of $950 out of pocket as my insurance didn't cover the procedure) and I am on lifetime Rx eye drops for dry eye that cost $600/mo. These glands are very delicate, hard to clean, and produce a crucial portion of the tears that bathe the cornea and keep it from drying out. It's also important to note that once the individual glands die off, they do not come back. Think long and hard, my friends.
THANK YOU! I am 65 and have pretty good skin, thanks to my mom's great genes. I have taken care of my skin forever and then I tried this effect and stopped to read your comment and decided not to go there again. If the make-up doesn't clog those pores, it's a great trick. However, I think I will stear clear of it.
Also, the membranes of your "waterline" are extremely delicate and porous. They will absorb whatever chemicals are in your eye makeup into your body. Make sure that you vet the ingredients in your cosmetics. Since cosmetics are not food products, the FDA has little - if any- regulatory oversight over make-up products even though the chemicals will be directly absorbed into our bodies transdermally.
I would occasionally (couple times a year I rarely wear makeup) put eyeliner on my upper waterline and will admit it really does give a good effect. A few years ago my eyes started watering so badly I looked like I was crying all the time. My eye doctor prescribed drops and steaming my eyes every night. It’s a pain in the butt to have to make sure I’m always carrying drops and take eight minutes with a (hot as you can stand according to the doc) hand towel over my eyes.
Thank you so much for this. More recently I have been using an eye pencil on my upper waterline and sometimes even my lower waterline. I thought the only danger was the possibility of getting a stye. Eye pencil on lids only from now on.
I am a retired optometrist and one thing I used to tell all my patients who use eye makeup: it belongs on the OUTSIDE of the eye, not INSIDE! The area between your lash line and the ocular surface is actually INSIDE the eye. Most of the everyday moisture in our eyes comes from glands that line the inside of both upper and lower lids; these are the meibomian glands and their ducts line the edges of the lids. Putting eyeliner on this area is asking for trouble, because it can clog and stop the moisture flow into the eye. If you could see your own eyelids under high magnification like eye doctors do, you would never even think of putting eye makeup there. The ducts can clog, the moisture trying to get out of the glands carries the makeup into the tear film, where it can become embedded on the inside surfaces of the lids. The inflammatory response to this is poor eye lubrication, causing redness and dry eye irritation and pain. Over time, the damage to the glands is irreversible. Two rules: (1) keep your makeup on the outside of the eyes, and (2) thoroughly clean all eye makeup every night. I will add one more, that if you are not going out, don't wear your eye makeup at all that day. Give your eyelids a complete break that day.
Using products on your inner lid margins is not a good idea, it blocks the little openings of the meibomium glands and results in blockages which lead to chalazia (styles) and blepharitis, also upsetting the balance of your tear film. Good lid hygiene is really important to prevent the symptoms of dry eye disease. Keeping those little openings clear is vital, it’s best not to gum them up with product.
I am 62 years younger, and I don't know how to pick what looks good makeup wise. I really don't use makeup, but now that I am older, I feel like I need to brighten up my life. Help
You are correct...I used to put eyeliner on the water line when I was young... constantly got eye infections. Never had another one since I stopped doing that!
I used to line my waterline (the narrow line just above my eye as you mention), and I also did that on the bottom of my eye when I was younger. I had an eye infection many years ago, however, and the ophthalmologist I saw told me that the product doesn't STAY ON my eye, but rather goes IN my eye. After that terrible night of feeling the infection in my eye that caused me to not sleep, I discontinued this beauty practice, and I have not had another medical issue since. So, I do not recommend doing this, despite the fact that it DOES look lovely.
Aloha Yes, I stopped doing that also I used to get these little bubble looking bumps right on that part of my eye because I used eyeliner, now I just trace under my eyes with a beautiful small line and not to heavy either
Love your finished look - put together , not overly made up with cakey makeup , fresh ,dewy , clean and natural . I’m almost 60 , natural grey hair , use Philosophy skin products ( due to sensitive skin issues that worsened while taking chemo ) - my problem is finding 1 color that blends with my entire face ( foundation ) . Chemo saved my life but wrecked my skin , broken vessels , blotchey , pigmentation , wrinkles ( brought existing lines out and larger and deeper ) Hydration for my skin and lots of fluid intake to hydrate my body , but so hard to maintain due to being nauseous and puking. I want to look like a healthy , natural woman again . Any advice ? Just found your channel and love that you embrace yourself , help us out with tutorials and you have certainly encouraged me . Sorry such a long comment - but for the first time in a long time , I want to get some of my confidence back and “ feel pretty “ - thankful to be cancer free , put in all those treatment hours , medications , trial studies and worry , beat the beast , came out with a better attitude and look on life . Thankful - Grateful- Blessed . Binge watching you channel 😁
As a 73-year-old woman who has developed dry eyes, I think it's a very bad idea to tight line eyelashes. I've seen videos where eye doctors find eye make up embedded in the inside upper lid on women who are having eye problems from years of wearing eye makeup. We don't really think about these things until we start to have some eye pain and realize beauty means nothing if your eyes aren't healthy. Apparently our eyes can only take so much make up over our lifetimes. I'm just saying: be careful. The glands in your eyelids can get clogged and actually die. You can't get new glands, so be careful about contacts and makeup when you're young! I wear minimal eye makeup now. Hate to rain on anyone's parade, but take care of your eyes!
I agree to a certain extent, but where you see severe cases of eyelash follicle infection, is where they haven't cleansed the eyeliner or mascara off properly. To really get in there, you have to use a cotton bud, with eye make-up remover and ensure there is not trace of make-up there in between the eyelashes, then, put on an eyelash serum or castor oil (with a cotton bud).
Castor oil will give great relief for your dry eye, just massage a small drop around and on the entire eye socket, include rubbing on the lash line and the inner corner. before going to bed
I am 69 yrs old and have been wearing eye make up, fake lashes etc. For 50 yrs. Now! Just clean and cream your face through ly every nite and you shouldn't have any problems!
So many women simply do not take time to clean the cosmetics they wore all day off throughly EVERY night! And for those who were foolish enough to leave their contacts in all night, there are no words know enough to address that stupidity! I wore everything ! Lashes, liquid liner, blue lower lid liner, several layers f mascara on upper and lower lashes, and three shadows everyday since I was in ninth grade! Every night tissues an baby oil were put to work getting everything off throughly! At 80 years old, I am proud to say, so far, no extra eye problems yet! Fake lashes should be cleaned regularly too, not worn day after day ! Baby oil is a miracle product for me!
I put eyeliner on my eye lash curler just along the edge and it adds that little bit of liner when you curl your lashes rather than the curler taking your liner off..its a neat trick.
I've seen optometrists warn against using products on that part of the under eyelid. Something about clogging sensitive glands. Anyone with dryness or other eye issues should check this out before trying. It sure looks great, but if it causes redness, swelling, or vision issues, it isn't worth it.
Hello firstly I do not wear makeup at all even when I was younger.I enjoyed watching Nikol demonstrate how to put her make up on. Nikol is absolutely beautiful and shines from the inside out. Her presentation I feel was very professional and easy to listen to and follow visually. I personally believe in good facial creams and skin care.
It doesn't matter how much make-up you put on your skin if the "canvas" isn't prepared. I believe the first thing women need is an excellent skin care treatment, If we don't have that we look "made-up". After the skin is prepared, primer is essential. If you don't believe it, I always recommend doing one side with primer and one side without - the difference is dramatic. :)
Thank you! Thank you! This year, after almost a decade of ignoring my beauty routine, I started using makeup again. At 56, my skin has changed dramatically, and I have found that my previous makeup products and application routines are simply NOT doing me any favors any longer. I was so discouraged…until I found your channel! Your products and tutorials have made me feel beautiful again! You have helped me to enhance my assets and hide my flaws in a way I could not imagine; and for that I am profoundly grateful!!! Thank you so very much for sharing your wisdom and for making an impactful change in my ability to see that I am beautiful, regardless of my age!
Having been ill for almost a year the doctors have finally come up with a treatment and I am feeling more like my old self. I haven't put on make up for so long that I feel as if I am starting over. I stumbled across your channel and I am pleased to see a woman who isn't 30, although you look marvelous my dear, showing us makeup tricks for older women. You gave me some great tips and I feel like I can put makeup on and not feel like I'm caking it on. I took your advice, paused you, got up and looked in the mirror and the skin below my lash line is very light and shows all along the upper eyelid. No wonder my adding eyeliner always looked incomplete or badly applied. I have all this white skin below my lashes that made it look out of place. I read one of the comments below about not putting makeup there for fear of causing chalazia (styes) and blepharitis but it doesn't concern me. Blepharitis is from having too much bacteria in and around your lashes and I use a cotton ball and warm water and a touch of baby shampoo on the cotton ball and shampoo my eyelashes a few times a week. Then use my face cloth to rinse and remove the baby shampoo. I've had styes occasionally over the years as a result of having to wear make-up every day for work and I was frustrated because I had a stye form right before a very important engagement and I got angry and took care of it my way and I discovered a very quick fix if a brief pain doesn't bother you that I will not recommend because it horrifies my doctor and is not doctor approved. Now the question is do I apply eyeliner all along the eye since my skin is visible all along the lash line or just from the middle to the end point?
Careful coloring your inner lids as shown in this video, suffering from dry eye is what you can end up with if you damage the delicate glands that are in those areas.
I do love your makeup tips - so pretty! Unfortunately my eye glands were damaged from radiation due to eye cancer. I had to have procedures to unblock those glands and help severe dry eye that threatened my cornea. Coloring the inner lids is counter to my doctors orders although I can carefully use some eye makeup. This makeup tip is probably not for everyone but it does look quite lovely. Not just for me 😢
It's actually called "putting makeup inside of your eye", because that's what those areas are: part of the inside of the eye, lined with meibomian gland ducts. Your doctors ordered no makeup inside of eyes, just as every doctor of every specialty does. That tip is for no one. No one at all.
@@shirlwong3229 Someone who had surgery for eye cancer is not going to use some woo "cure" on her eyes. There is no science backing that woo claim up. There are real proven effective and safe treatments for dry eye and other eye problems.
Wow!! So happy I read the comments!! I will not be using this little trick anymore, I have been doing this since I was in 8th grade!!! Health before vanity.
PSA!! I bought Nikol's creamy concealer and eye primer and it is a game changer!!! Both products are amazing! They took years off! I am just someone who watched Nikol's videos on UA-cam and decided to give it a try. I am so happy with her products and am looking to purchasing more! BUY THE CREAMY CONCEALER AND EYE PRIMER, you will NOT be disappointed!!! Looking younger in Massachusetts!
I have used that trick for over 48 years now. I always hated that gap & filled it in with my eyeliner pencil. This was interesting & informative...thank you!
Have your eyes evaluated by an eye doctor who treats dry eye. The watering is a symptom of over reaction reflex tearing due to dry eye. It can be treated and you can get relief!!
I’m 35 and have rosacea and ocular rosacea since I’ve been a kid. Everything irritates my eyes: makeup, lotions near the eyes, scents, smoke, wind, heat, and crying. I’ve tight lined years ago as a 20 yr old but stopped for always feeling something was in my eyes and swelling of the glands.
I agree. I love the tight lining but stay away from doing that. You will cause dry eye. What you're doing is preventing from those little pores where you have oil glands to secrete oil
At 58 I recently lost a lot of weight. After years of ignoring my makeup I’m now really relishing it. Thanks so much for showing me a way to apply makeup that is age appropriate. I felt I was getting stuck into my old ways. New subscriber
Hey....for loosing weight. U don't need any special diets. Just do it the old fashioned way. I have thyroid disease. If I can loose weight....... anyone can loose weight; especially women who don't have thyroid disease. Just have patience. Good luck 👍 2 u.
I thought the same thing!! LOL Besides her beauty (natural), I thought, how fantastic looking, her hair is!! Absolutely flawless and beautiful. Thank you for the tips. I desperately need them! I'm 47 and will be 48 at the end of the year, but this helped me tremendously! Thank you again.
Truly the best "hack" is a strip lash...minimal eyeliner on lid, not on the waterline, and no mascara required....especially if you wear glasses and have dry eyes like many of us over 50 do❤
@@kristiry7964 A strip lash doesn’t address the issue that tight lining does though. You’re still going to have a space of flesh tone color if you do that.
@@ooohlaa13 There’s literally a discussion on tight lining being harmful. If you don’t care that’s fine, but then why are you watching a makeup video? Really easy for you to keep scrolling…
I've been doing this for about 5 years (I'm 57). As my eyes became more hooded it was a way to conserve lid space. Makes a big difference! If I'm in a hurry all i do is tightline and mascara
I too am 57, have hooded eyes and very fair skin. My beauty tip is false eyelashes and liner on the top water line. Done in 5 minutes. Looks AbFab for everyday or a night out. Eyes pop!
The greatest tip u ever gave me is the one when I’m doing my brows and you said to brush them down first… what a game changer when filling in the sparse areas… then brush them up and BAM! I got beautiful brows.. never overdone… thanks Nikol.. another satisfied mature gal facing the day
Yes, as an over 70 year young woman, I have, for years, done tight lining on my upper lids. It’s a subtle application but does make a beautiful difference.
ageism is when it is stigmatised by using 'young' inaccurately instead of 'old'. The fact is we are ??years old whatever the number. Using a fake word to replace old is a major contributor to ageism
When I was in my younger years, I would say up until I turned 40, I colored in my upper and lower waterlines -- but when I drew closer to my 50s, I began having problems with my eyes, and dry eye syndrome. I would feel like I had sand or grit under my eyelids and my eyes would burn all day long and have redness. I hadn't changed to use a new product line and had been using the same manufacturer of eyeliner my whole life. So I changed eyeliner manufacturers but still experienced the burning, redness, and feeling like I had sand or grit under my eyelids all throughout the day. So, I just stopped using any eyeliner on the insides of my waterlines -- and as soon as I stopped the health of my eyes improved and I didn't feel the burning and the grit under my eyelids anymore! When it comes to choosing your health over vanity, you should always choose your health! I still use eyeliner but only on the outside of my lashes. If my eyes don't look as "dramatic" anymore, oh well, I'll just live with it !! I'd rather have healthy eyes and keep my vision for as long as I possibly can! .
@@LauraBlair-ut5ns Kohl is a mineral that is used in certain eyeliners. It makes the liner itself soft and smudgey and it is recommended that only liners containing khol should be used on the waterline, "to prevent irritation". I was curious if the lady was aware of that bit of information. It may have saved her a lot of pain.
I'm 59 and I've been using that technique since the 80s. I did it on top and bottom but stayed away from the tear ducts. Made my eyes more prominent and didnt have to use liner as much above lashes. Just a little liner not thick on my eye lid and my green eyes popped! Never had problems even with wearing contacts. Loved the difference it made! Thank you for all of your great tips! ❤
I couldn’t have said it better myself you’re absolutely right and the other people on here are just off-the-wall. Anyway, my girlfriend also showed me years ago and I don’t go but right underneath the eye lashes and nowhere near my tear ducks. it gives a totally different dimension with an eyeliner when you do it that way and I’ve never had a problem and I’m not gonna tell you how old I am, but I’m getting up there pretty well ha ha and I’ve never had a problem with my eyes😅
This is the second time this week I've watched a video about using eye shadow and a brush to 'line' the eyes. I always struggled to use fluid eyeliners and switched to liner pencils but still wasn't using them correctly. So glad to see these videos and tutorials for make-up. I almost never wear make-up, only for special occasions and this is a great way to look put together that doesn't take an hour to complete. Thanks for this.
I'm just at the start of my "middle aged" phase but I'm very bad at makeup and barely wear any. I no longer bother with mascara unless it's a very big event, and I learned that I can use my eyebrow brush and the darker of the eyebrow powder duo to softly "line" my eyes. It's just a touch darker than the powder I use on my brows, and gives a soft definition that barely looks like liner. It's so forgiving and looks less made up.
I love to do shadow as liner too. I use an angle brush instead of a round one like she did as it helps make a more defined line. Although hers still looked perfect
I started tight-lining in my thirties, too. When I started, I used black to match my mascara. As I got older, I switched to dark grey or black-brown for a softer look. I find that matching it to the tone of my mascara really enhances the eye and lash line but I use so little it doesn't compete with the liner above the lash line.
I have too! A makeup artist for Bobbie Brown taught me this years ago! I swear by it, do it every single day even if I don't do full makeup, and have never had an issue with blocking the glands some are mentioning. Perhaps it has something to do with the quality of the liner.
Been doing this for years.. nice clean look I do not line the eyelid just tight line the top corners with pencil. A creamy waterline pencil I found Ruby Kisses in brown , very soft precision, self sharpening, non smudging & costs only 3.00 ! I have tried more expensive believe me this one is the best
Your video came up in the side menu while I was watching other videos and I came back to view it. As a former make-up artist for a large company, I learned and confirmed info from you here. At that time, I was doing makeup on older women and I found that since their eyelids were more crepey and loose, I had to stretch the lid with my finger in order to line the eye without skipping. You provided a great hack that I had started to use on myself, instinctively, however; I'm stuck on the waterproof liquid liner and a longer cat eye. I've been in the habit of using a shadow in the crease for depth but I like how this looks on you so I'll try it on myself. I'm now a follower. Thank you, Nikol.
I am going to be 60 next week and I have relatively good skin because I've really taken care of it. No fillers or Botox. Just day and night routine. I'm absolutely going to try your makeup as soon as it comes out. I have fairly hooded eyes and this trick is going to change my life. You're already extremely beautiful, so putting that makeup on made you extra special extremely beautiful ❤
I've been tightlining for about 2 years. Almost always use Espresso or charcoal for my color choice. I so love this technique, that I use it even if I'm doing a no-makeup look. The roots of my lashes are dark brown. I use black mascara on the tips. I know you show us to start from the roots but I think that somehow makes my eyes water, so tips it is. Thanks for all you great tricks.
The tip with the concealer sitting for a few on the face is a great tip, and I will try that. I have dark circles, and I put extra moisture on my under eye, wait and let it dry a bit, then apply concealer. Thank you, and I love the eye shadow liner. Very pretty and on pale skin, such as mine, it stands out. I'm going to try Cabana and Sweet Carol and see how it looks. Thanks, Nikol, for all you do for all ladies! 🩷
I am a retired actress/ singer. I know a lot about makeup already. Having said that, I really appreciate your tutorials and have learned even more as I age. Thanks!
Such fabulous brows! I wore my liner on the inside for years until my ophthalmologist said not to for longer eye health. My eyes are wider and brighter for going with just the smokey eye look with shadow/without liner. Once someone noticed and said I looked younger, I was convinced of no more inner lid liner. No one over 50 wants to look older! Great tutorial!
I agree! I had an undiagnosed cornea infection from tightlining. I went to dr because I felt something in my eye and couldn't wash it out. It was a clump of eyeliner that had hardened. He couldn't see that until the infection cleared. BEWARE!
I love the look but also tend to get irritation so thank you for saying this. I will try the eyelashes tips again as mine are super sparse now, at 62. I'm using castor oil with teatree to encourage growth and health, but also been using magnetic and glue lashes which look good but not great for that tender skin area either!
Nikol, I totally agree with you. I have this very same problem, and I have been putting eye liner on that area. Without it my eye make up looks incomplete. However, I can’t do this often because my eyes get irritated. I love your hair. It’s a masterpiece.
I've been doing this for years! It's important to put your finger on the upper lash to make the lid stick out to get the liner in there. It's a great trick!
Hi, yes, I have known about this trick. It looks amazing but I’ve found it irritating and also exacerbates formation of stys for me. I’ll use it for special occasions only. So here’s MY trick for that fleshy color showing under the lashes - for a really natural look use less eye darkening eye products and instead disguise flesh and pinkness around the eyes (both above and below the lash line) with a soft blush. It’s kind of like if you can’t beat it - join it. Ha ha. I’m serious though, if you use less contrasting color and just continue the flesh tone up above the eyelid it will overshadow the weird under lash effect. Not for people who want a lot of eye drama though. Instead, it produces a soft, pleasant appearance to aging eyes.
I am so impressed with the completeness of your videos. I appreciate that you provide health information that includes all aspects of staying healthy. Mind, body, and soul. We recently added pelleting to our medical wellness practice as this is not addressed often enough by primary care practitioners. Thank you for being honest and thorough!

This is the most attractive, natural makeup application I have ever seen for either more mature OR younger women. There is just enough color to bright up your face...no overdone smoky eye or false eyelashes the size of dead tarantulas, and my biggest gripe: shiny finishes that truly make actresses on the red carpet look like they have really oily skin or have vaseline on. That is not "dewy" it's just plain greasy. This is great makeup...pretty, enhancing, fresh and lovely. Applause !
She's telling people to coat the ducts for the meibomian gland ducts and risk serious infections and gland malfunction. Those ducts provide moisture to the eye. If people wear makeup inside of their eye - which is what she's telling them to do - the damage could permanently damage the meibomian gland and/or ducts. If you were a nurse, you'd know that.
I am 64, recently started using dry black eye shadow across lids like a liner, stays on pretty well, doesn't move around like liner. Mac has a great black shadow called Carbon but it broke so I grabbed an older palette with black. best eye liner I ever used, all by accident.
I have a prominent fleshy strip below my lash line and tightlining was life changing for me. Makes a huge difference. My problem is my eyes are very sensitive and I've gone through lots of different brands and lots of $$ trying to find one that works.
Been doing this since my teens (so about 35 years) as I have incredibly sparse eyelashes; it makes such a difference. But never tried with colour matching my eyeshadow, so something to look into. Thank you.
You are absolutely gorgeous! I'm 57 and have finally embraced my silver grey hair. I love it! Your hair color is perfect! I do line my top waterline black, and use a nude or white eyeliner on my lower lashline. It really opens up my eyes. Tightlining tickles me sometimes, but I work through it. Thank you for sharing! ❤
I just came across your channel. I must say you look Marvelous. You definitely do not look like you are in your 50's. Im 47 and you look younger than I do. God Bless. Thank you for this makeup(eyeliner) trick. I really enjoyed your video.
At 82, I still love wearing my makeup whenever I leave the house. Even at home, I will use my concealer, blush and eyeliner. However, you taught me something in this video that I never knew! Eye Shadow only in the corner or my eyes and not the whole eyelid! And, using my eyeliner pencil only on the top innermost part of my eyelashes! I hope I'm describing it right. But, what a great revelation! And, mascara? I've been hesitant to use too much on my lashes so it ends up clumped and I end up having to brush it off. I am a 17 year cancer survivor and the chemo took not only the hair on my head but, all over - including my eyebrows. I did the stupid thing of having them tattooed 7 years ago but are now faded. I do not want to renew the tattoo, and wondered if you have a remedy for drawing in (filling in) what little eyebrows I have?
Yes, I curl my lashes first too! My lashes are stubbornly straight and short so I need to curl very close to base. If I curl after liner, the curler presses and smudges against my eyeliner.
Just happened upon your video WOW you are stunning! I'm 46, and over my dramatic years, so this make tutorial was absolutely brilliant! I love the subtle clean look. This is exactly what I was looking for! I NEVER thought of tight lining my upper lid, and I dont know why, because it makes so much sense. I always hated that in some areas, I'd notice that nefarious little line that was NOT colored in, and it would drive me crazy. Thanks for the tip! I cannot wait to try some of your products!
This is just what we needed. It really works and looks amazing. Thank you. I did know about this, but your products are perfect for this and a lot better looking than just a black eyeliner pencil.
I have had no success with mascara as I aged. When you explained your trick of using the movement of the eyelid closing to stroke the brush, it completely changed the game for me. Now I can finally get mascara on the lashes, and can’t wait to try your mascara as well. Thank you so much for the education you offer to elder women using well developed techniques so clearly explained. Many of us grew up in an era when makeup was forbidden or considered whoreish. We woman have to lift each other up, and you do a fabulous job! Thanks so much!
I’ve been tight lining for well over a decade. It looks sooooo much better, and makes my lashes look even longer than they already are. I usually don’t even wear liner on my top lash line (and never bottom lash line), but always tight line.
I love the details you shared in your blog. I needed this. I feel like I can't trust most of the makeup blogs. But you have your own brand and you give reasons for every step in your video here. I appreciate it. 🥰
This lady looks so beautiful. If it wasn't for the grey hair I'd believe she was in her 30's. I don't know what she does for a living but I wish I had her money and wardrobe. I'm 42, back living at my mums after a break up with 2000 to my name. I hope I can turn things around.
Right?! Sheesh. It’s fun to watch her but kinda depressing at the same time.THATS social media for u! Life is hard. Most plp do NOT live like her. Hope things get better for you. I completely understand. 🥰
@Alice-kq9li Stay positive, sometimes life brings some stepping stones to test our strengths. When you feel down, put some makeup on( to lift your spirit, sometimes when we look good, we feel better!) and take a walk to lift your spirit. A huge and strong hug from me!! ❤️
Why does the concealer work better when it has a chance to "rest" and thank you fir these tips for older skin types along with the makeup and skin care links ❤
I didn’t wear eyeliner in general until my 40s. Prior to that, I felt eyeliner made my naturally long lashes look fake. But, our eyes disappear as we get older. I always hugged the lash line as I have hooded lids. I finally tried tightlining the waterline about 2 years ago. Makes a definite difference.
I accidentally discovered tight lining (didn't know that's what it was called) when I started working eyeliner down more in between my lashes. I always found it easier to do from the bottom rather than the top and that actually created the line you're talking about
I'm doing exactly what u demonstrated w/the eyeliner , I was concerned I was maybe overdoing...... thanx to u, I feel positive about using this method...It looks so much better !!!! No problems at all for ov a yr.... At my age I appreciate all the help I can get & it works beautifully....@ 80+ :)
I’m 61 yrs old and that is something I saw my mother do. Tight lining I do whenever I make up my eyes. I don’t use makeup on an every day basis but I do use eye liners and shadows during work week. Thanks for bringing it back
Yes found about this a few years ago. Love this trick. I had a little problem with my immune system and lost my lashes. When they started to come back i used it to give my eye a bit pop effect. I still do it. Another thing ladies that use false eyelasnes either temporarily or everyday should yse this the the lashes dont look spaced away from the eyeline. Just a thought to share.❤
I love the look of the plum shadow. I am definately going to do it, and just on Thanksgiving I was thinking my eyes looked unfinished due to not knowing the tighlining trick - I will try it and report back! THANK YOU!
This is something we did in the 80’s, only we used a lighter and black liner! It looks much better the way you are doing it. (This is the first makeup tutorial I have ever seen. Thank you!)
Yes, and everyone had eye infections and red eyes all the time from blocking those all-important meibomian ducts - I knew someone who had a blocked duct and had an eye patch for like a month. Can cause permanent eye damage too, from putting make up inside of the eye like that. Who would do it?
How am I just discovering you? I've been searching for decent makeup for mature skin for a long time, I can't tell you how excited I am to try your tips and your line! While I'm not a fan of using eyeliner on the water lines, your techniques are fabulous. Thank you!
Absolutely love all your tips and tricks for the mature women Nikol, they let me feel good about my aging skin. You look ravishing as usual, and I hope you have a wonderful day.❤
When I was in my 20’s and just starting to learn how to use eyeshadow this is how I wore it. Very subtle but just enough, and I go back to this look a lot all these years later ❤
So excited I "found" you...I came account ur videos randomly. Turned 47 last month. Struggling with the getting "older!" You gave me some great tips also gave me some "hope" with the term aging gracefully!! You are stunning! Excited to now check out ur makeup line! ❤ Thank you!
I love the tip you shared with the fake eyelashes under the eyelashes too! I finally can enjoy false eyelashes and put them on all by myself!!!! So easy to apply. That along with the tight lining is perfect for the mature woman!
I’m 81 and have been wearing eyelashes since I was 20 and in the days where Avon was the only place to buy them in a small town. Blond and very light find lashes of my own. I even put them on in the hospital a time or two. Tight lining really makes a difference!
I have droopy eyelids, so I use very little eyeliner because it goes in the crease of my eye within the hour, i use a tissue to wipe it off during the course of the day, I started using eyeliner just the way you demonstrated inside the lid, it works good but I feel my eyes do not have that dramatic look from not applying eyeliner on the outside of my lid. This is what happens when you become middle aged.
Nikol makes great eye liners that are waterproof. So, no smearing or moving throughout the day, for me anyway. You can move it a little with a brush right after you apply it, but it does set up. Very nice liners. 😊
I’ve always done that since I was in my 20’s. Never had an eye issue, thank God. Then i saw your video a couple of years ago, I started doing it the way you showed it between the lashes, and I left the water line naked, it actually opened up my eyes, so I’m sticking to the way you presented it the first time, I really do prefer it better. I thank you for that!! 🩷
Thank you. I’ve been wearing eyeliner under my eyes for 40yrs. WOW!! 🙀Didn’t realize it had been so long. I just subscribed to your channel and I can’t wait to watch more tips and surprise my husband tomorrow with what I learned. Thank you again it’s nice to have someone actually show you what to do start to finish.🎉❤
Love you channel! You have so much class and give very helpful tips. I'm 75 and still love playing with makeup and wear it everyday. I especially loved watching you do your Mom's makeup and she's just as beautiful and classy as you are!
An extra tip for the “eyelashes struggle”..after applying your mascara, without loading any more product, use the tip of the wand to separate the eyelashes…it really adds length!
Nikol, I have to admit this was the first beauty video that I've ever watched start to finish! Your instructions and delivery here are amazing, and I was fully engaged the entire time. Unfortunately, as 65 year-old woman who never learned the art of make-up, I doubt I will put your tips and tricks into practice (I'm just too intimidated). Should a day arrive where I feel capable of giving it a go, I will certainly look for the products you used here. You look smashing! Well done, you!
Thank you Nikol for the tutorial. I am in my late fifties and I needed to learn a fresh approach to eye makeup. I can't put liner on my inner lids bc I tear way too much. You are beautiful and I do appreciate your wisdom.
I love the tight-lining look, but no matter what kind of pencil I use, it always ends up under my lower lash line and looks like I have lined the bottom of my eyes.
Same with me, so I use a tapered tip brow or tightlining brush to go in between the upper lashes with liquid liner. Gel formula works too, as well as certain matte eyeshadows that don't have fallout issues.
Lovely, I put my soft pencil just under the lid and close my eye, gently pushl it to the outer eye, open! Voilà!! Anyone know how I can buy these beautiful products in Europe??? Thanks 😊
I started tight-lining several months ago and it makes such a huge difference for me. If I’m just doing day makeup, I skip the normal liner and just tight-line.
I have become aware of that in past years, but I really forget to do it! I really am looking forward to your BB cream coming out, Nikol! This look is beautiful… Do you ever talk about cool or warm or neutral skin? Would you ever be able to let us know if you think a color would be better on different skin colors? I’m trying to find a red for a very special event, the one that you helped me with, you precious person -❤️ and I’ve heard that reds that tend to go a little more blue make your teeth look whiter. Is that true? Thank you so much for these make up tutorials… I really am learning a lot!🎉
First time watching. I am a woman in my 70s looking like 60s, thanks to serious skin care since my 20s! I've been using the water line eyeliner but am now concerned about the comments re clogged pores and other cautions from the eye care professionals. Love your look and advice ... very natural looking for us "mature" women, I will be trying some of the products you mentioned. You're got a new subscriber!
I just turned 41 and have been lining like that when I do wear makeup since I was in 8th grade (when I actually started applying my own makeup). I did have my hair and makeup done for photo shoots and pageants before that so I guess I had some in person tutorials/on the job training. I've never been big on wearing a full face or contouring or a lot of makeup period. I prefer the natural look and my go-to's when I do wear makeup are mascara and balm/gloss (tinted/shaded/clear), but if I have more time or I'm feeling a lil extra, I'll fill in/shape my brows and maybe add some liner/shadow and a bronzer. You are very beautiful and your skin looks amazing. ❤
I am 72 and been using this trick as well for years. I can skip mascara at times with this trick. I love the mascara from you Nikol! It does grab every lash! I am so happy to have found it. I am also looking forward to your BB creme. Please know we understand the delay and will patiently wait for it, using every last drop of my other,(just like you)🥰 You are very beautiful and I want to order everything!
I can't believe I have not used these techniques since I was a teenager in the 80’s! It really makes a huge difference. Can't wait to try your BB Cream and concealer. Loving all my Nikol makeup. Your formulations are amazing for mature skin. 👏❤️
My goodness! You were a beautiful woman before your makeup but the after , you are just simply stunning! I am 71, lost most of my vision and therefore leave the house resembling the town clown at times. Going to check out your line, so soft and natural. Thank you Nikol
I am instantly obsessed with you! I have never seen you or your makeup and it's beautiful. I am 50 and have been looking for a new way to do my makeup and the colors you just used were so subtle yet made your eyes come to life. Going to sit down tomorrow and figure out what I need to order. 😊
Love tight lining. Saw this trick a few months ago elsewhere. So far, still trying to find a liner that won't eventually migrate down. And I'm using supposedly "stay put" eyeliners.
Thank you for that!
Thank you soooooo much for this. I mean I like Nikol she's got some good stuff however, this I wasn't sure about. Thank you for making me sure......
Thank you!
There's no way my eyes would tolerate make up on the inside. I have very sensitive eyes. Thanks for the information about the glands.
I just learned this exact information from another influencer that went to her eye dr. He told her what you have written. Thank you for confirming
And for our middle eastern sisters who have worn kohl since five years old, what is the advice?
Using products on your inner lid margins is not a good idea, it blocks the little openings of the meibomium glands and results in blockages which lead to chalazia (styles) and blepharitis, also upsetting the balance of your tear film. Good lid hygiene is really important to prevent the symptoms of dry eye disease. Keeping those little openings clear is vital, it’s best not to gum them up with product.
Yes. I have blepharitis and this would be something I would never do. Would definitely cause a flare-up.
I am 62 years younger, and I don't know how to pick what looks good makeup wise. I really don't use makeup, but now that I am older, I feel like I need to brighten up my life. Help
Maybe this is more of a once in a while trick as opposed to an everyday look?
I agree because is a sensitive area,I will use an eye pencil only outside not inside
Aloha
Yes, I stopped doing that also I used to get these little bubble looking bumps right on that part of my eye because I used eyeliner, now I just trace under my eyes with a beautiful small line and not to heavy either
@@jannathompson6680 Thank you so much . So very kind of you . Could not have “ battled the beast “ without our Lord above . Bless you
As a 73-year-old woman who has developed dry eyes, I think it's a very bad idea to tight line eyelashes.
Agree. Putting product in that area is asking for trouble.
I’d love to know what kind of liner you’re using. When my eye pencil gets on my lash curler, it then causes my lashes to stick to the curler…
@@duvessa2003

What's pelleting?
Nonono, curl lashes, apply mascara, and THEN liner just above the lashes. Curler never takes off liner that way.
Nice🦋!
I've seen optometrists warn against using products on that part of the under eyelid. Something about clogging sensitive glands. Anyone with dryness or other eye issues should check this out before trying. It sure looks great, but if it causes redness, swelling, or vision issues, it isn't worth it.
Absolutely would not use liner on that part of my eye. Not worth it for just nicely lined eyes.
Great Video ! Yes this definitely made my eyes pop and I love it. This is the 1st time I tried it😊.
@@karenjoy5211 Risking serious, even permanent, eye damage. Talk to your ophthalmologist or optometrist.

What’s the trick? Just curious
Not just for me 😢
You can apply castor oil on the lash line overnight. It helps to cure dry eyes
Thank you for the review I appreciate it! 😍😍
how did you choose the correct color?
@@mimisharpe7611 really?
I have used that trick for over 48 years now. I always hated that gap & filled it in with my eyeliner pencil. This was interesting & informative...thank you!
I love tight lining but had to stop because of dry eye. That part of the lid is full of oil glands that produce oil which mixes with our tears.
I had to stop doing this, too, after getting Long Covid. My eyes tear 24/7, and this step really irritates my eyes.
Same. Special occasion only.

Yes, as an over 70 year young woman, I have, for years, done tight lining on my upper lids. It’s a subtle application but does make a beautiful difference.
We knew ALL the tricks in the 60’s & 70’s!
ageism is when it is stigmatised by using 'young' inaccurately instead of 'old'. The fact is we are ??years old whatever the number. Using a fake word to replace old is a major contributor to ageism
Yes me too!😊I’m the age where we all used the liner on inside of our eyes and it’s gorgeous and I still use it today.😊
Been doing it for 50 yrs, this is an old practice
@@bibliodaph Yes. I don't like that she makes it sound like we've never heard of anything. We're "mature", been around a while. :)
I'd rather have healthy eyes and keep my vision for as long as I possibly can!
.
I have to ask...were you using Kohl eyeliner at the time?
Did you get a reply? Why would khol be a problem?Ikes??
@@LauraBlair-ut5ns Kohl is a mineral that is used in certain eyeliners. It makes the liner itself soft and smudgey and it is recommended that only liners containing khol should be used on the waterline, "to prevent irritation". I was curious if the lady was aware of that bit of information. It may have saved her a lot of pain.
@@221BBakerStreet Thank you so much!!
It still winds up in the eye.
@@MD-cn2xy Not writing about just tear ducts, but also the meibomian glands.
@@brealei so do I. I believe shadow eyeliner looks so much softer and natural
I'm 50, and have been tight-lining for at least 20 years. It does make a huge difference.
The design looks so cool.
Nikol, you look beautiful, hair, makeup, perfection!
Thank you so much
The tip with the concealer sitting for a few on the face is a great tip, and I will try that. 🩷
Love your job for real...
I learned to do this decades ago. My lid line is easy to see - so I started filling it in and in between the lashes. It makes a world of difference.
I think they are too heavy, great but too heavy
I’ve done the lining on occasion and it does make all the difference….I really liked the way you applied the eyeshadow….can’t wait to try it!
Yay! Thank you!
Really informative...
Yes! I’m 70 and I do that “inner” eyeliner trick. I call it the “waterline.” Makes a big difference!
It IS the waterline! You’re correct
She didn't draw on the waterline though. It was in between the lashes actually;@@dianegibbs3716
Are your products effective on dark skin? Any recommendations?I am a 70 years old deep chocolate woman😊
An eye lash curler is nice make up tool to have.
Same,
Nikol, I totally agree with you. I have this very same problem, and I have been putting eye liner on that area. Without it my eye make up looks incomplete. However, I can’t do this often because my eyes get irritated.
I love your hair. It’s a masterpiece.
You can end up with permenant eye damage from putting makeup inside of your eye. Don't do it.
Just curious - what is pelleting?
Me too, never heard that word before.
Thank you!❤ Thank you!❤
This year, after almost a decade of ignoring my beauty routine, I started using makeup again.
Thank you so very much for sharing your wisdom and for making an impactful change in my ability to see that I am beautiful, regardless of my age!❤
Please come back and read the comments from professionals about why people shouldn't put makeup inside of their eyes!
Liked this video alot. What can you do for skin that's wrinkled on the eyelid?
I always tightline. I've tried not tightlining but I always go back to it. I have sparse baby fine eyelashes so tightlining is a must!
Thanks for sharing!!
I love your company.
7:56 pm Congratulations! 🎉 One more yr, my mother will be Cancer free🩷🙏
Yes, I curl my lashes first too! My lashes are stubbornly straight and short so I need to curl very close to base. If I curl after liner, the curler presses and smudges against my eyeliner.
Amazing ! I learned so much.
I did that when I was a teenager. Wow now I can as a mature woman do it again.!
You are a lucky girl.
Glad it was helpful!
The only way to love.
I accidentally discovered tight lining (didn't know that's what it was called) when I started working eyeliner down more in between my lashes. I always found it easier to do from the bottom rather than the top and that actually created the line you're talking about
This is exactly the content searching...
I stamp from the top of the lashes to fill in the white spaces. It covers plenty without risking eye damage.
This advice on is critical in having a beautifully lined eye. I have been tightlining my eyes for years, and it makes all the difference.
Thanks for bringing it back
Your secret love.
Luv luv ❤️ 😍
Yes found about this a few years ago. Love this trick. I had a little problem with my immune system and lost my lashes. When they started to come back i used it to give my eye a bit pop effect. I still do it. Another thing ladies that use false eyelasnes either temporarily or everyday should yse this the the lashes dont look spaced away from the eyeline. Just a thought to share.❤
I Don't use make-up often, because I have a fragrance allergy, but my mom's friend showed me how to do this as a teen I'm 46 now😊
Wow your beautiful. Love this trick what about small eyes? Help.
I am always learning something from you. I did the wait before working in my cover up. What a difference.
Brighten your smile with love...
Thank you!)
You are so right about the upper lash line liner, it works so well, makes a drastic difference. Thank you !!!
This is no secret, everyone was doing eyeliner like this all through the 70’s & 80’s while I was a teen into makeup.
Well, it was a secret to me. 🙂
Agreed
@@ms.andrea172 it was unknown to you, but nobody kept it a secret from you.
We know the heavy eyeliners of the 70s & 80s. Now it's called 'Goth'..lol
Yes, and everyone had eye infections and red eyes all the time from blocking those all-important meibomian ducts - I knew someone who had a blocked duct and had an eye patch for like a month. Can cause permanent eye damage too, from putting make up inside of the eye like that. Who would do it?
I’m amazed how beautiful and natural you look with minimal effort.
I agree. She is totally stunning.
Yep, with Botox, filler, make up, big extension /implant hair. Fake personality. So natural.
OMG... your HAIR at the end of this video.. the way you so effortlessly tossed it in place. Just STUNNING!!👏👏👏
I would give anything to look like that. Her hair is absolutely gorgeous.
How am I just discovering you? I've been searching for decent makeup for mature skin for a long time, I can't tell you how excited I am to try your tips and your line! While I'm not a fan of using eyeliner on the water lines, your techniques are fabulous. Thank you!
Thank you Nikol, this is the second show and I love your consept for an older woman, I am 85 young /hooded eyes and you sure do it right.
Wow, thank you!
I love the look when I tight-line my upper eyelids, but I have a problem with the liner "melting" and smudging on the skin below my eyes. Any tips?
Absolutely love all your tips and tricks for the mature women Nikol, they let me feel good about my aging skin. You look ravishing as usual, and I hope you have a wonderful day.❤
Love this channel...
Beautiful ❤️
@@changeeyecolor3891 hi how old is this beautiful Lady Nikol? Is she naturally grey? First time I stumbled across this video. Thank you kindly 👑👑👑
@@annabertuna1805 as a hair dresser I would say yes she is naturally grey, it suits her well!
When I was in my 20’s and just starting to learn how to use eyeshadow this is how I wore it. Very subtle but just enough, and I go back to this look a lot all these years later ❤
This made me smile. Love it.
So excited I "found" you...I came account ur videos randomly. Turned 47 last month. Struggling with the getting "older!" You gave me some great tips also gave me some "hope" with the term aging gracefully!! You are stunning! Excited to now check out ur makeup line! ❤ Thank you!
That pink cream blush is beautiful.
I love the tip you shared with the fake eyelashes under the eyelashes too! I finally can enjoy false eyelashes and put them on all by myself!!!! So easy to apply. That along with the tight lining is perfect for the mature woman!
Hi when was the fake eyelash tip shared? I am trying to find that. I just tried them first time ever and I struggle 😊.
I’m 81 and have been wearing eyelashes since I was 20 and in the days where Avon was the only place to buy them in a small town. Blond and very light find lashes of my own. I even put them on in the hospital a time or two. Tight lining really makes a difference!
@@terrylaberry2480. I’m looking for that answer too.
@@terrylaberry2480 ua-cam.com/video/gwygx0Jme_U/v-deo.html
@@leeannechiles6810, thank you for letting me know, I will look into purchasing it.
Do both, liner on the tightline & above the lashes & it works wonders!!!
LOVE this sneaky trick, thank you! Question, do you not put any mascara on your bottom lashes? If not, why? Thank you!🥰
I love that you addressed this trick. It is one I usually do and really like it.
It's so good!
I like your life...
Thanks 😊
Your life is awesome...
I started tight-lining several months ago and it makes such a huge difference for me. If I’m just doing day makeup, I skip the normal liner and just tight-line.
I have same problem but am able to have color stay put with a waterproof pencil 🙂
I am motivated thank you.
Thanks for the tips! I have all your eye pencils and it's so easy to tightline with them!
Wonderful
Love your teeth.
Thank you Nikol you are so good to let us into the little tricks of makeup. Hi from N.Ireland ☘️👍
You are so welcome!
I love your smile.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video...a natural look that looks so easy to do. I can't wait for these products to be available... I need them!😊
Please continue this series...
Love tight lining. Saw this trick a few months ago elsewhere. So far, still trying to find a liner that won't eventually migrate down. And I'm using supposedly "stay put" eyeliners.
Look for liner for the waterline , a kajal type.
I love your teeth.
