Branden Webb Provably the only time and probably on the shoulders of the GOAT? Dunno I'd have to look at the season stats but Gannon wasn't terrible. He was solid, as were most of Moss QBs, that was the point.

VetteGetsEmWet no you forgot to mention Tim Brown was playing on the other side with 1200 yards also. that's 2400 and he threw for over 4000. All im saying is what Rice team never had a great receiver on the other side? Be fair is all im saying

Rice & Brown were both way beyond their prime at the time, lol. And if you remember, Gannon was known for not being able to throw a ball 20 yards without it looking like a duck. I watched that whole season & he was mostly checking the ball short to receivers, TE & RBs and the Raiders lived off YAC. The fact that Rice & Brown even had that season is amazing. Not arguing for or against any point. Just thinking about how absurd that season was for them. Gruden was a GREAT coach.

When Rice left the 49ers after the 2000 season, people said he was ‘washed up’. Rice went to the Raiders and put up back to back 1000 receiving seasons and made 2 pro bowls with Rich Gannon throwing him the ball. Rich Gannon won MVP in 2002, Rice at his age of 40 was as dominant in 2001-2002 as he was in 1991-1992.

The story I'll remember most about Jerry Rice is when he blew his knee out in his mid-30s, for most receivers they aren't even relevant at that point anymore but Rice was still at the top of his game. A few months later Jerry's wife says she hears this crazy sound coming from the garage and goes in there and sees Jerry literally sawing the cast off of his own leg. He comes back from a torn ACL in the same season he tore it, ends up catching a game-winning TD and gets hit on the play, breaking his kneecap on the same knee, so he was done again. But I mean if that story doesn't get the hair on your neck up, I don't know what will. The guy was a competitor on a scary level.

    • @Jonathan83X
      @Jonathan83X 3 роки тому +16

While that was very impressive I have to admit, it was very foolish of him to rush back that fast. Rice should have waited until the playoffs to come back because that's when the 49ers needed him most. He would have most likely made a difference in that Packers game had he played in it. Would they have won? Who knows, but they would have stood a better chance at least.

Your points are quite accurate. Naming the greatest, QB, LB, RB, etc., seem to always be up for debate. As far as the WR position goes, there is no debate. Just look at the career numbers.......
      Jerry Rice : receptions 1549 receiving yards 22,895 receiving TD's: 197 rushing TD's: 10 = 207 total TD's!
Randy Moss : receptions 982 receiving yards 15,292
      receiving TD's: 156 punt return TD's: 1 = 157 total TD's
      Terrell Owens : receptions 1078 receiving yards 15,934 receiving TD's: 153.
To their credit, Randy Moss and T.O put up some historical career numbers and won numerous awards along with other accolades and some postseason success. They truly are all-time greats! Both of them will definitely be in the Hall of Fame some day.
As far as Jerry Rice goes, his career numbers are just beyond anything we've ever seen before or since. They are simply unworldly! His postseason success also speaks for itself. He's quite possibly the best football player ever.

I never felt he was as athleticly-gifted as let's say someone like Moss or TO, but it seriously felt like he never dropped the ball. Even with the tightest coverage this guy just finds a way to catch that football, he made it look so easy. He was always a significant factor in every game due to his stamina, I can't remember him looking fatigued ever. He is a class act and is deservedly #1.

As far apart from his peers as the sun and the moon. Like Walter Payton, his workouts were so otherworldly that a trained tri-athlete would vomit on their shoes. Receiver is probably the greatest "DIVA" position in sports. Yet, even those Prima Donnas give Jerry Rice the nod as "THE GOAT" There is simply no one to compare to him, because no player so completely devoted himself to his craft. A maestro in pads. A Houdini in cleats. The greatest of all time. Past and future tense. The GOAT of all receivers. The undisputed GOAT of all NFL players.

Moss used his speed, size, and athleticism. Jerry, was a pure football player. Well said though. And, I gotta admit he played a HELL OF A LONG TIME. It's not just the world records it's also how he played the game, he played it honestly and he played aggressively, his hand eye coordination is unreal and the way how he can catch a ball going really fast while also having 3-5 people on him and the way he Bob and weaves through people when running, and the way how he can easily keep running after someone tries to pull him down just shows his shear strength and skill. When the other team gets tired they are done for because then that's when Montana/Young and Rice get on fire and absolutely wreck the field. Rice isn't just #1 for the records, he is #1 for how he played the game.

Then I realized. THAT'S why he's the GOAT. The dude was IMPOSSIBLE to fully cover. He ran routes SO WELL, had such SURE hands, that it just looked easy. He always had a way of getting himself open. It's like, you can have randy moss skying over someone to catch it. Jerry Rice is an all time great! Coming out of HBCU school like Mississippi Valley State to the pros that’s amazing. He played 20 seasons in the NFL and being in the Hall of Fame. A lot of receivers wanna be him, but they don’t wanna work as hard as him. He is a native of Starkville, Mississippi who used to catch bricks and run up and down the hills. He was the heart and soul for the 49ers who played with the likes of Joe Montana and Steve Young. He was an all-time receiver with 1,549 catches, 22, 895 receiving yards, and 197 touchdowns. Salute to #80 Jerry Rice!!!

  • @UncleJay27

"OMG he used stickum! That means Moss is better." Jerry Rice only used stickum during his ROOKIE season, which was nowhere near his best season. Put his best 10 seasons against any other receiver's top 10 seasons and Jerry wins every time. He had the greatest work ethic and ran every route to perfection. The only route he wasn't best at was the deep route and that's the only route Randy Moss beats him in. Jerry Rice wasn't a quitter and showed up to every Super Bowl he played in, even when he lost. He even won a Super Bowl MVP. You could even argue that he could've won co MVP during Super Bowl 24. He set the tone for the offense in that game when he caught the ball, crash into Steve Atwater, and scored the first touchdown of the biggest beat down in Super Bowl history. He was a key part of the 49ers dynasty from 1988 to 1994, and a key part of their offense from 1986 to 1998. He wasn't their vocal leader, but their spiritual leader. He's even the most clutch receiver of all time. Not to mention, he finished all of his routes, showed great sportsmanship, and always carried himself well. He didn't curse out coaches on the bus on the way from games. His baby mother didn't get a restraining order against him. He never said that he didn't feel appreciated when he was with any of the teams he was on. I could go on forever but you get the point. Jerry Rice was the real deal.
