Such a blessing it was to have lived through the late radio era and Cosell's brief moments are ones for the ages!
One particular run that should have been included was from a 1979 Houston/Oakland game in which Earl Campbell is running towards the goal line, takes an absolutely vicious hit from Jack Tatum that staggers him backward, then regains his balance just enough to stagger forward and over the goal line for the touchdown. Incredible!
I don't know that I love watching anyone as much as Barry Sanders. Dude just had a pure runner's stride that was beautiful to watch. I think Bo Jackson is the best athlete to ever play the game. And watching Derrick Henry do what he does live is like football manna. Good stuff. I enjoyed every second of this.
other dudes were juicing then too and he still smoked them. Dude was faster than everyone. Barry was quicker than everyone but almost never the fastest guy on the field.
It looks like the video has been taken down but there was 5-6 minute video and every play was just Barry Sanders having amazing backward runs. He also has the most total negative yards ever with over 1000+ over his 10 year career. It might be included in one of the longer football docs.
I just always admired Walter Payton. He played so many years on bad teams and never asked to be traded. stayed around long enough for the Bears to finally get good.
More to the point, shame on the Lions for never giving him the coach he deserved. Lions had great Personnel on both sides of the ball, and the best they could do was give him a coach with a hidden cocaine habit and could not coach his way out of a wet paper bag.

Watching all these clips of old football makes me realize how much football I've watched over the yrs especially of Barry Sanders. And Payton, Allen, Bo Jackson amazing

We must be close in age, these would all be on my list as well. I also wish Billy Sims could have been more durable. I remember his rookie year. He had the talent to be one of the true greats.
Absolute disrespect to not have my boy Terrell Davis on here at least once. He was one of 8 RBs to have a 2,000 yard season, and scored the most TDs out of all 2,000 yard rushers for their respective seasons. He churned up the field and found the endzone often in 1998.
he was literally too athletic for his own good. he messed it up on a play where he had the ball and the defender had his leg but he pulled away trying to escape the tackle.
I totally agree. He was a freak of nature with speed, power, agility. That game against Cincinnati was just so freakish with that hip injury. It’s a shame we didn’t have 10 more years of that kind of generational talent
He never ran for 1,000 yards in a season. He did have a career average of 5.4 ypc, which is obviously great. Why didn't he get more carries? He was quite good in baseball too, he had a 32 HR, 105 RBI, 26 stolen base season. Also Bo is the best player in any Tecmo football game by far.

Tony Dorsett's run (99 yards) was great on more then one level. Yes, that record can never be broken but the fact that Dallas only had 10 men on the field makes it almost impossible to duplicate.
@Ryan Anderson Even though I hare the Titans (Ravens fan here) and I remember watching the Tony Dorsett run on MNF, the Derrick Henry run was more impressive because of the players he had to stiff arm to score!
@@seanswinton6242 on Dorsett's run, the Cowboys only had 10 men on the field. That ALONE makes Dorsett's run more impressive, because they were a man down. 10 to 11...also, Dorsett is not near the size as Henry, so I don't give Henry points for being able to stiffarm smaller men than him.

Barry Sanders was truly one of the greats, but to claim he was "by far the greatest running back of all time", is a real stretch. Barry had 3,062 carries for 15,269 yards, with an average of 5 yards per carry. His longest run was 85 yards. He had 352 catches for 2,921 yards and scored 109 touchdowns.' He caught 492 passes (140 more than Barry) for 4,538 yards and 125 touchdowns (26 more than Barry). I love the old time announcers, they’re so complimentary of the players.
That and they seem like they have more than 1 brain cell
RIP Steve McNair I miss watching you play football
AND WARREN MOON. That is fascinating that Houston landed both.
Hearing John Madden brings back memories of the greatest games I have watched. It's not measurable what he brought to televised sports. Who ever would have thought an announcer could bring so much to a game.
RIP John.
Anyone who remembers Howard Cosell would have known how much an announcer can bring to a game!
Same with Vin Scully!
@@buckbuchanan4902 "Howard Cosell Speaking of Sports." Listed to this sports show every single Monday morning on the way to school and never missed a broadcast ever. Loved the way he excited listeners about what happened during Sunday's football games through a freaking radio! Such a blessing it was to have lived through the late radio era and Cosell's brief moments are ones for the ages!
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST Broke my heart when the COACH died
One particular run that should have been included was from a 1979 Houston/Oakland game in which Earl Campbell is running towards the goal line, takes an absolutely vicious hit from Jack Tatum that staggers him backward, then regains his balance just enough to stagger forward and over the goal line for the touchdown. Incredible!
Never seen it, but would love to.
Bo Jackson minus steroids equals eh!!!!!
other dudes were juicing then too and he still smoked them. Dude was faster than everyone. Barry was quicker than everyone but almost never the fastest guy on the field.
Great collection of great runs ... but Kenny Stabler with bad knees running down an open sideline?. If I had to have ONE complaint that was it.
Marion Barber’s 2 yard run is the greatest 2 yard run I’ve ever seen.
I agree
breaks 10 tackles
Marion Barber was a monster
It looks like the video has been taken down but there was 5-6 minute video and every play was just Barry Sanders having amazing backward runs. He also has the most total negative yards ever with over 1000+ over his 10 year career. It might be included in one of the longer football docs.
Mike Alstott had a run as good against the redskins
I just always admired Walter Payton. He played so many years on bad teams and never asked to be traded. stayed around long enough for the Bears to finally get good.
I agree. Had he played for a better team for all those years he'd have had more than 5 highlights in this video.
The RBs who are able to run through faces and shrug people off will always be my favorites to watch. Beast mode🔛🔝
Barry Sanders. Good God. Shame on the Detroit Lions forever for never giving him the team he deserved.
More to the point, shame on the Lions for never giving him the coach he deserved. Lions had great Personnel on both sides of the ball, and the best they could do was give him a coach with a hidden cocaine habit and could not coach his way out of a wet paper bag.
Shame on him for being dumb enough to resign with that dumpster fire. Larry FItzgerald decided that he would commit career suicide too so shame on them. You watch a franchise be that inept year after year and keep signing contracts its on you when you retire with no gold

They did the same thing to Calvin Johnson. The lions organization is terrible, I feel bad for their fans.

After that comment---Hammer-time
Watching all these clips of old football makes me realize how much football I've watched over the yrs especially of Barry Sanders. And Payton, Allen, Bo Jackson amazing
You obviously missed out on Marshawn Lynch.
My wish list after seeing this: 1) Walter Payton would've lived a very long life, 2) Marshawn Lynch will make the hall of fame, 3) Bo Jackson would've never gotten injured, 4) I could've seen Jim Brown and OJ Simpson play, 5) Earl Campbell's body would've lasted longer and be healthy today, and finally 6) Eric Dickerson would've made the list.
Word. No Dickerson. What about Sanders staying on/getting traded and getting a ring.
Dickerson was once the NFL record holder over 2000 yds and he's not on this list. most of it was Lynch. someone has a hard on for lynch
They are all great but in my opinion Barry Sanders is the 🐐. Mr. Human highlight reel., And never had a good offensive line.
Ty Walter Payton was my mums baby brother..he passed away in her arms..i miss my uncle..ty again
We must be close in age, these would all be on my list as well. I also wish Billy Sims could have been more durable. I remember his rookie year. He had the talent to be one of the true greats.
Barry Sanders had an almost supernatural sense of balance and sometimes he was nearly parallel to the turf.
That’s cuz it was unnatural you don’t see the rope tied around his waist? Lol
he had the perfect build , super stocky, short, and legs as thick as tree trunks. the GOAT
Still the best RB I’ve ever seen n I’m 52 yo.
Barry had more moves than a box of Ex-Lax
He was food at karate too, apparently. 😆
Absolute disrespect to not have my boy Terrell Davis on here at least once. He was one of 8 RBs to have a 2,000 yard season, and scored the most TDs out of all 2,000 yard rushers for their respective seasons. He churned up the field and found the endzone often in 1998.
That is too bad, but you have to brag on yourself and promote your achievements or no attention gets through. Terrell Davis is one of the greats...
Go, Broncos!!!
Bo Jackson’s hip injury really robbed us of what would have been an historic career
Without a doubt
he was literally too athletic for his own good. he messed it up on a play where he had the ball and the defender had his leg but he pulled away trying to escape the tackle.
I totally agree. He was a freak of nature with speed, power, agility. That game against Cincinnati was just so freakish with that hip injury. It’s a shame we didn’t have 10 more years of that kind of generational talent
Think of all the home runs he lost the opportunity to hit!

12:27 Jerry Kramer's block. And 27:03 Young made a great run. Broken play blocking for him was incredible, especially the last 2.
Steve Young of the SF 49ers with THE greatest run by a QB for TD!

@Ryan Anderson I know it was tied. But did they do it with only 10 men on the field?
@Ryan Anderson Even though I hare the Titans (Ravens fan here) and I remember watching the Tony Dorsett run on MNF, the Derrick Henry run was more impressive because of the players he had to stiff arm to score!

Barry Sanders was truly one of the greats, but to claim he was "by far the greatest running back of all time", is a real stretch.
Barry had 3,062 carries for 15,269 yards, with an average of 5 yards per carry. His longest run was 85 yards. He had 352 catches for 2,921 yards and scored 109 touchdowns.'
Walter Payton rushed for 16,726 yards, (1,457 more than Sanders), which broke the record for most rushing yards by any NFL player in history. He caught 492 passes (140 more than Barry) for 4,538 yards and 125 touchdowns (26 more than Barry).
The ONLY place that Barry Sanders stats are better than Walter Payton is the yards per carry average, where Barry had 5 and Walter averaged 4.4.

I was watching that game in 1978 when Earl Campbell ran over Isiah Robertson. My friends and I were all talking about that run the following Monday at school 😃. Good times.
@@derricklowe2823 ditto!!!
Although my opinion will always be that Sanders was better than Lynch, there's little room to argue that Lynch deserved the top spot. Sanders was more like a magician with how elusive he was, Lynch was like a freight train you have no chance of derailing!
I could watch that run every dam day. Man I miss Lynch
Absolutely brilliant video, really miss Barry Sanders and Bo Jackson
Barry Sanders should have been all top 10 runs that man was the truth
"Look at that kid play football. ~ Commentator on Walter Payton...Classic.
Barry could have a hundred on this list by himself. The goat.
Pick from a list of games where the Lions WON, and his total would be about 2. LMAO!!!
@@blackSUAAAVE Actually, the Lions made the PO's 6 times in 10 yrs. with Barry. Each time they got there, the coaches had no answer for the run blitz.
I agree but emmit is the goat for running backs stats don’t lie and neither to rings
@@nevalost1948 Barry retired early and easily could've got the record for all time rushing yards and plus Barry did more with less when compared to emmitt
C M emmit is the all time leader with Troy and Michael Irvin on his team he didn’t get all the touches like Barry so yea but if emmit was on the lions then he would of got all the touches to
Beastquake gives me chills everytime I watch it
There are a thousand runs never seen or seen that will never be on this video. Kudos. Great video
Rest in Power “Sweetness” 🙏🏾
What the. Fuck happened to the. great Gale. Sayers ???
Steve Young was a cheat code in real life. How can a player be as good a passer as Steve when he can run like that?
Yeah, the running QB has been around for awhile. But he was white, so that doesn't count.
@@Kube_Dog what, that's stupid.
I've always viewed Steve Young's running,
Like Wayne Gretzky's ice skating
They both look awkward and goofy and slow when they're moving
But just you try to catch 'em...and stop them..... Ain't happening.
Even their aparent weaknesses....
Are average individual strengths....
Go go greatness 💪
@@dp-io4il he ran like forrest gump🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@Kube_Dog ????????so because he was white it doesn't count why white guys are on a higher plane than everybody else or something get real
no offense but totally the most stupid comment I've ever seen has to be yours thus far..... Nationalism has nothing to do with it.
Seein's how we're on the topic....there's no such thing as racism because there's only one race and that is the" human race " white , black Brown yellow Red gray..... it just doesn't matter, we all ,ALL... BLEED THE SAME COLOUR. because God made us all the same... In His image in His likeness.....what people do with that is up to them cuz there are a great black men great Hispanics great Chinese great white guys... Great Indians Asian and North American. We be all one in blood 1in likeness the sooner we all figure that out the better off we will all be to each other. time to bury the race card forever total shame that people have to bring it out even worse that most people bring it out all too often for all the wrong reasons.
So yeah Steve Young he was a good good runner for a quarterback . white or black... Nice talkin
'ave a G'day mate
I loved watching Mike Alstott run the ball, Jerome Bettis, Natrone Means, Walter Peyton and Ladainian Tomlinson running through defenders. For the fancy juking, Barry Sanders by far the best at it. Walter Peyton could juke peoples shoes off, Billy Sims was another one I liked watching. Miss the good ol days of the NFL.
Showing your age a bit when speaking about Billy Sims lol, he seemed to be a forgotten man though... I guess with a Back like Barry Sanders replacing him it was kinda easy lol/lbs
That was Billy Sims?! Thought so. All the great Detroit Lions wore #20. Lem Barney. Billy Sims. Barry Sanders
Chris Berman used to say NATRONE MEANS BUSINESS
UUUUUUUURK~! Billy Sims!!! OH that was right before Barry! Billy Sims was another Amazing one from the Wayne Fontes cant do it show! Great Call! Maybe a video with great underrateds?
Honorable mentions. Eric Dickerson, Chuck Foreman, Mercury Morris
